Getting Our Licks In!

Packing a lot of kitchen items (for tomorrow) since there will be cooking going on.:D Shelving paper, cookware, dish cloths, dishes, some food... Will spend two nights there. Hopefully if weather permitting, we can take a walk along the beach for a break.

Michelle, Great job on LIC. Oh My Gosh! I need to do that one and get it over with. Also great job for doing Trisets Lower Body. When is there not a challenge when it comes to Cathe? LOL:D

Great job on Yoga Relax. Love that one.

Take care,

Janie

I'm still sticking with Cathe's November rotation. Did YogaRelax on the boat yesterday morning. It really is a relaxing yoga routine. Today I did Total Body Trisets Upper Body but didn't have time for the slide and glide cardio only workout. TBT Upper Body was fun. I liked the way that Cathe uses the stability ball with the exercises--throws in that extra "balance" challenge to work the core. Tomorrow is Athletic Training--looks like another fun circuit workout. Oh Boy!

Janie: sounds like you guys are rolling along at the beach house. Are you still sleeping in your trailer or are you in the house yet? Kitchen sounds like it's ready to go if you are going to be cooking. How exciting. Don't forget those cathe workouts.;)

Hi all!

I'm finally finding an evening when I'm home, not getting caught up with work, not and not on the phone with family  The time change did me a big favor

It's an ongoing challenge to rebuild so many habits and activities with my job change, so much to learn there with a larger role in the organization than before, coupled with being in a completely different part of the country as family. Someone described it to me as having put on a big exoskeleton (like the transformers) and trying to learn how to dance, while speaking a brand new language, upside down! Perhaps not as challenging as that, but you get the idea :)

I have missed all of you here and truly appreciated the posts from Janie and Renee on facebook, and the hellos from a few of you that I spotted awhile back. You are kind not to forget me when I've been neglecting all of you.

So. Here's fun news! My DVDs came! I acquired a spin bike for my apartment. I'm on the second floor of three, so it's not something I can use late or early, but it's great on the weekends. Cathe's full spin dvd is beyond my woefully out of shape self - well, we start from where we are, so I'm really just pleased that 20 minutes of it went well yesterday. I also did the Total Body upper body workout sheet, though not the dvd. To keep things quieter, I'm using my gymboss timer to set up a two minute break interval and just going through the workout card. It isn't quite as much fun, but it does mean I can intersperse my weights with calls home. Being so distant has meant that my calls back home are a high priority, so I do not skip them - that uses up most of the evening.

The cat who came with the apartment is much friendlier now. Unfortunately ... someone noticed the little house I'd coaxed her into using, and it turns out we are not allowed to have anything like a house on our decks (I am *so* used to being able to do anything I like with my property!). That doesn't bode well for a cat who lives outdoors, so we are hoping to get her into a crate and send her back to Idaho to live with my family. Poor kitty, and I'll miss her, but I don't think she'd enjoy being an apartment-only cat after living free so long.

Janie, so fun to see your jewelry show up online from time to time. You've got a real talent for design. I'm glad you followed your dream of sharing your creativity with others.

I see we have a member who is probably not all that new - with a boxer spirit. Your child asked a tough question. It seems to me, though, that competitive boxing as you describe it bears as little resemblence to most playground fights as singing does to a child having a temper tantrum. Competitive boxing is about skill, and challenge, and agreeing to test one's self against a willing partner. A meanspirited playground fight is about bullying. If skill is used, it's used cruelly. It only looks the same to people who do not understand.

Well, it *is* time to call home now, so hi to Michelle, Laura, Renee, Janie and everyone else I've been missing! Hope to catch up with you again one of these days. I'm on travel again, three days for work then three days home with family :D, then back to the east.

Busy day, so quick check-in. Yesterday was Athletic Training and today was TurboBarre--love, love, love these new workouts. Athletic Training and TurboBarre could become new favorites for sure. Both bring back memories of the New Jersey roadtrip because Cathe interspersed parts of all these new workouts into the workouts that we did over that weekend. Love those elbow situps in TurboBarre!

Shadowpup: so good to hear from you. Sounds like you are adjusting but apartment living has to seem so foreign when you are used to the wide open space of your home in Idaho. We (our country) are lucky to have you where you are though. Do you ever get down to DC? My schedule doesn't usually take me to where you are but maybe I can be creative about that.

Got go get back to work. Hi to everyone else: Laura, Sister, Janie, LizBoxer.

Michelle

Been a very busy last couple of days. Sleep deprived and overworked. But hey, we can now wash the walls and prepare it for painting. One room at a time. And, no more smell, yeah! We are done with the floors except for painting them, and we have a full kitchen to work in and stalked full of food for the next time we come to work. I can't wait to get to the point where there is a real comfortable bed! Oh, our Pergo arrived (for my bedroom and bathroom), Joe will pick it up tomorrow.

Michelle, Yes, we are still sleeping in the motor home. Now it's too cold and will bring an extra blanket for the next time. It will be awhile yet before we can sleep in the house. Will be doing a Cathe workout tomorrow. Don't know which one except my name is on the "LI Challenge Step Aerobics" I need to get that one behind me.LOL Thank you for reminding me that I still need Cathe. Even when our lives are so busy, we still need to do it. Great job on Yoga Relax. Ummmmmm O yeah. And also for today's TBT Upper Body.

Deborah, Always always, good to hear from you. Sounds like you are still adjusting to your new position in the company. Wishing well on that. I know you will be good at whatever is handed to you. Isn't the workouts great? I'm having so much fun with them! You got a spinning bike. You lucky girl. I can't, there truly is no room left for any more equipment unless I want it in the middle of the room. Besides, enough is enough, I have other DVD's I neglect to do and will be doing them gratefully. I wished she would continue with the boxing bag. I bought one thinking she would do more of that type of work, but nooooooooo it's yet more new equipment to have. Can't justify it in my mind. Oh my, I just read what I wrote. Felt good to vent. I'm glad you took that poor little kitty. You have such a kind heart. The kitty is a very lucky one indeed. You gave great advice to our boxer. You sure have a way with words. My Joey does too. Until the next time then. (((((hugs))))).

Michelle, Great job on yesterdays AT and today's TB. I hear ya on the great workouts of Cathe.:D

Janie

Goodness! The time continues to fly by and I keep trying to make it through the "have too's" each day! The Nutcracker is a tremendous commitment and it has been hard to keep up the pace even with a minor roll. Elizais loving it though and really flourishing under the pressure actually. It is really maturing her and she is even seems to be growing faster. She is no almost a head taller than her twin, which makes me somewhat concerned for her sister who as things speed up seems to be growing quitter and more introspective.

As far as workouts go last week I did a few of the Cross Train Xpress series while I waited for my DVDs to arrive ( some how they were over looked somehow my order somehow but sent them out as soon as I contacted them the sent them out!) I did power circuits & step routines. So my DVDs finally arrived! Yeah!, Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to do the yet although I did preview them today as I cleaned my house today! I had great classes this week they have been so full that I am almost at capacity!

Another week of Cathe workouts completed. Today is my much needed rest day. I have tried the Turbobarre workout (45 minutes) only until my left leg cramped up. Its a good workout but honestly, won't become a favorite. I also did the express premix of Athletic Training. That was to work the kinks out of my legs from Turbobarre the day before. It was a very short workout and when I was done, I thought "is that all?" Attempted LIChallenge. What a fun step workout. Very tricky and will take some time to get, but that one could become a favorite. I did most of Rhythmic Step (no challenge) for the first time since my ACL injury. Slow and steady improvements in my endurance and cardio output. Feeling pretty good these days since it finally seems like I'm getting back to "normal".

Everybody seems busy doing whatever life has in store for them right now. I like be busy. No chance for boredom and over indulging. Heck the holidays are right around the corner!

Good to hear from ShadowPup. I'm happy you will make a home for that kitty. I have trapped, spayed/nuetered the mom/pop ferel cats outside my house. Now I just have to get the 3 youngsters taken care of. 5 inside and 5 out! Thats a lot of cats! My 5 inside are my love and joy. Such wonderful little animals who unconditionally love me back. When a person is loved by a cat, the moodiest of all animals, then you know all is right with the world!!

Stay focused, and work, work!

~Renee

Work--work--that could be my middle name for the next 10 days. This morning I did YogaMax which I find much more challenging that YogaRelax. YogaRelax is truly relaxing and YogaMax requires my full concentration and focusing on staying centered and breathing.

Today is the Marine Corps' Birthday. One of my favorite times of year. Everyone wishes everyone a happy birthday. Each year the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps do a video message that is sent to all the commands to view during their respective Birthday Balls. We viewed it this week at our birthday celebration at CNA. It is quite an emotional birthday message. If you want to watch it, you can find the link on-line at Marines.mil :: Official Home of the United States Marine Corps. Have a box of tissues handy though when you watch it.

Janie: okay--how can retirees be sleep deprived? That just doesn't sound right to me. I know you all are working hard and want to get stuff done, but get your sleep for goodness sakes. We can't have you or Joey falling over into a can of paint!

Sister: nice to have you stopping by a little more regularly.

Laura: yes, sometimes SNM overlooks an order. I had that happen last year with my Cathe calendar. I should have notified them sooner than I did, but they sent me my order right away. Since you do alot of pilates, I'm interested to hear what you think of YogaMax. I've got one more "new" workout to try for the first time and that is Slide and Glide which is on my rotation for tomorrow.

I'm Looking forward to giving Low Impact Challenge another try on Saturday!
Happy Veteran's Day to all,
Michelle

I am feeling a little off today, a bad tummy bug is going around my friends & my tummy is not to happy with me, not terrible either though?.. I cleaned some more today, though not as deeply as yesterday and then attempted Low Impact Challenge. I only got through the first 3 combos when ran out of time and had to go pick up the girls. I agree with Renee, it's a super fun routine and will quickly become a favorite go-to step routine. I can't wait to do the whole thing! I used only 1 riser, which I like to do when I am learning the routine, but I think two risers will really bump up the work out factor!

Renee: you sound more & more like your TOWANDA self each check-in!! A whole week of Cathe! That will make anyone feel good. I think it's awesome you are back to step! Very impressive ....that is a whole lot of kitty going on at your place. My daughter loves the Warrior book series which is all about wild cats.

Shadow pup: yeah! So nice to hear from you! You really have made a major life change moving back east! I am glad to hear that you are making time to keep up your fitness goals while juggling everything else! The spin bike sounds cool. I did get the spin DVD and I plan on doing it at the gym, why I got the DVD and not the download eludes my though....I didn't take the time to think that one through... :-(

Hi to Michelle, Janie & Liz !!

Michelle: we must have been posting at the same time! Did you love LIC? The little I did today was so much fun and I thought pretty easy to pick up. I haven't tried yoga max but maybe I will do that one in the morning....I'll let you know what I think..

Today I did the new Low Impact challenge aerobic step up. I'm so glad I did. It wasn't pretty, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be either. Woo Hoo! Talk about sweaty!

Laura, I bet Elizais will do well with the Nutcracker. Sounds wonderful! Sounds like she is becoming her own person. Great job on the Cross Training, Power Circuits and Step routines last week.

Renee, Great job on another week of Cathe's workouts. Enjoy your rest day today. Isn't it fun trying out the new workouts. You did good it seems. At least you know the ones you love. Great job on RS and the improvements you are still experimenting.

Michelle, Great job on this mornings Yoga Max. I love that one, very challenging! Sounds like you did enjoy the Marine Corps' Birthday. That's really cool. I will review the link after this post. I have tissues. LOL, Joey and I will get more rest. We just get so into what we are doing that time just escapes us, and before you know it, it's very late.

Laura, Hope you are feeling better. Darn those stomach bugs! Great job on doing the first 3 combos of LIC. I love that one too. I only used the top of the step up, no risers. I'll do better next time.

Janie

Ripken and I had a beautiful long walk this morning. It's a clear, crisp autumn day and the breeze which is blowing now was not blowing this morning. Just finished slide and glide about 30 minutes ago. I was halfway through the upper body work when I realized that according to the rotation I was only supposed to do the cardio portion. Oh well--too late--I was too far into the workout to stop. So, no total body trisets upper body today. Core work on this one is pretty intense in the beginning and then it gets easier and then harder. I've done all the new workouts now except cycle max--I think they could all become favorites. You've got to wonder how Cathe comes up with these great workouts.

Our lawn service is doing the last grass cut for the year. Tomorrow I will rake up the leaves that are left and hope to get some winter fertilizer on the lawn. I also need to finish cleaning out my small garden.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Yesterday (Friday) I truly didn't want to exercise at all. I mean I didn't! My Joey took hold of the reins and told me that we don't have a choice to not to. If we stopped exercising even for a little while it would lead to no exercise in our lives. He asked me if I wanted to be fat. Well, we exercised. Together we decided even our beach house will not intrerrupt us from here on out. We have different days to accommodate everything we want to do. We go to the beach house on Mon. morning and leave Tues. late afternoon (should give us plenty of time to work) . We exercise on Wedn., Fri., and Sun. This will work perfectly. I'm so glad for my Joey. He's awesome! I would hate to think what would happen if I didn't have him around. My personal motivator...

Michelle, Great job on walking with Ripken. Now that the weather is so cold and rainy, Rolly doesn't get enough of it. I just can't get myself out there when weather is like that. Also great job on Slide and Glide. You did good on the cardio, that's just another notch in your belt. LOL;) Congrats for doing all the workout in the series. I'm behind, but will do them sooner or later.

Have a good one,

Janie

Beautiful fall day--crisp, cool walk this morning, but got up to the 60s this afternoon. This morning I did Low Impact Challenge for the second time. Much better the second time around. I've got first four step sections down pretty good and I've almost got that last one. I got through that fifth step section without messing up about half the time, so that is progress. What a fun step workout. I think a couple more times and I will be able to get through it without messing up as much.

I'm headed out west tomorrow to Fort Irwin/Barstow, CA. My colleague and I will fly to Las Vegas and then drive about 2 1/2 hours to Barstow. Never been through Las Vegas before so I will be seeing some new parts of the country. We are staying in Barstow and our work takes us to Fort Irwin. Fly back on Thursday. I'm taking my Low Impact Series, my disks, bands, and dixie cups with me. Alot of these workouts are very doable on travel.

Janie: you're Joey is a good person. He is absolutely right about not wanting to get fat. It would be so easy not to exercise, but then it would be so not fun not to be fit. A big ((((HUG)))) to Joey for keeping you on track.

Michelle

Hi y'all ! Today I tried the Slide & Glide workout which I really liked. It was a different style of workout but I liked the way the gliders felt and the low impact aspect of it, I did work up a good sweat with those wicked planks....I didn't get through every push up but there is room for improvement. I also missed that it was only supposed to be the cardio portion so I will have to add the STS tomorrow?..

Hey everyone!

Yesterday I did LIC all the way through but still only on 1 riser, I just feel safer learning step that way. I really liked the challenge blast at the end but that last combo was hard to get...:-(. Tonight was Pilates & ski conditioning, which felt tough to me tonight & I worked up a great sweat.

Where is everyone?

I think Michelle is out of town, I wonder if she took the new series.

Janie are you at the beach?

Hi to Shadowpup, Renee & Liz

Hi Guys, got home tired again, but that's OK. We are still going two steps further and one step backwards, but I think it could be forward from here on out. Just before we left the beach house, we made a test. We washed a wall in my bedroom and a wall in the bathroom with a degreaser. Then we put a primer coat on. If that hold up, then we will start doing that all through the house. Yipppppppy! I have a feeling it will do just fine. The smell is hardly noticeable now, but using a Fabreeze candle on one side of the house and the other candle on the other side. Makes me feel better. We also have dehumidifiers going when we are there and one on while we are gone. We opened our Pergo of blue and it wasn't blue like I thought, but a beautiful slate blue. Talk about serendipity! I love this color soooooo much! I knew we were taking a chance by looking at the colors on the computer and we were lucky. We walked the beach before we went home and the day was so beautiful and sunny. Rolly is in heaven at the beach and free. You should see him move. He's fast! Tomorrow is TBS as usual. Yeah!

Michelle, Great job on the walk this morning and LIC. I think that one will be my favorite. Enjoy your travel especially in Sin City. My doctor son lives there. It's a cool place. I never thought of some of these as travel workouts, but yea, you can! Thanks for the suggestion.:)

Laura, Great job on the S&G. That one is my next one. Not looking forward to the planks.

Laura, Great job on LIC good for you for getting all the through it. Yeah for you! One riser is good. I still haven't used a riser yet, just the top. Also a great job on Pilates & Ski conditioning.

See you later,

Janie

Hi gang--didn't have time to check in yesterday but I did get in about 45 minutes of TurboBarre in the morning. We had a very full day yesterday and didn't get back to the hotel until late. This morning, I did slide and glide cardio only. I really wanted to do the whole thing but just didn't have the time. I set the goal of getting in at least 30 minutes of exercise each day while on travel and so far I have done at least that. Many of the discs on the new series travel well. I did turbobarre using a chair in my room. I didn't have weights for the beginning segment so I used my band instead. I also brought my discs with me for slide and glide. Tomorrow I will do either Afterburn without the weights and just focus on getting the form right on everything or I will do CardioSuper Sets. Either one will be okay with me.

Janie: sounds like you all really are starting to move along. Will you go to the beach house next week or take a break to focus on the Thanksgiving holiday? I'm glad to hear that the "blue" colored tile are a shade of blue that you are pleased with.

Laura: yes, here I am in lovely Barstow, CA. The topography here is ruggedly beautiful but I'm not sure I could live in the desert. I'll be interested to hear how your legs feel the day after slide and glide. I have found that my muscle soreness seems to be deeper in my legs, like I'm working a new layer of muscle with that particular workout.

One more day here in CA and then back to Virginia on Thursday.
~michelle

Ugh! Had a miserable night of NOT sleeping....ALL night... And now I feel like a total zombie. My heart rate is running high & I feel clammy and sweaty... no fun at all. I am going to muddle through this day in a complete fog. I have a parent teacher conference in a bit than picking up the kids and a friends to my moms and then I have to go the apple store because my computer has a virus that infected my iPad now which is terrible.

Yesterday I did STS Back & Biceps and Pilates.

Tonight I teach my Total Tone class not going to be pretty but I will get through it.

Janie: how fun to be creating a nice new space for you & your family to enjoy. Soon it will be ready to enjoy with all the hard work behind you. Glad you like the color of your Perigo flooring! Good job on keeping up your workouts on top of all that

Michelle I love the new series so far I am moving slowly through them as I am doing the STS /LiC rotation & all my classes. I am feeling the workout differently too. I feel 'stiff' especially in my hamstrings which often respond not so much with DOMS but with tightening. I am sure that's why Cathe has two yoge DVDs in this series! That lady knows what she is doing

Joey and I did TBS, abs and stretches. Felt like I could have lifted more. Next time I will add a little more weight. Since I had this extra energy decided to to Yoga Max. I really needed it. I know I haven't done most of the other DVD's yet, but that one was calling my name.

Michelle, Great job on the TB this morning and Slide and Glide cardio only. I love the TB workout! Haven't tried S&G yet. We won't be going back to the beach house until after Thanksgiving is over.

Laura, I hate nights of insomnia. Sounds like a horrible no good very bad day. Great job on yesterday's STS Back & Biceps and Pilates and today's TT class. Good night, sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite. Hope you have a restful night and a better tomorrow.
