Hi all!
I'm finally finding an evening when I'm home, not getting caught up with work, not and not on the phone with family
The time change did me a big favor
It's an ongoing challenge to rebuild so many habits and activities with my job change, so much to learn there with a larger role in the organization than before, coupled with being in a completely different part of the country as family. Someone described it to me as having put on a big exoskeleton (like the transformers) and trying to learn how to dance, while speaking a brand new language, upside down! Perhaps not as challenging as that, but you get the idea
I have missed all of you here and truly appreciated the posts from Janie and Renee on facebook, and the hellos from a few of you that I spotted awhile back. You are kind not to forget me when I've been neglecting all of you.
So. Here's fun news! My DVDs came! I acquired a spin bike for my apartment. I'm on the second floor of three, so it's not something I can use late or early, but it's great on the weekends. Cathe's full spin dvd is beyond my woefully out of shape self - well, we start from where we are, so I'm really just pleased that 20 minutes of it went well yesterday. I also did the Total Body upper body workout sheet, though not the dvd. To keep things quieter, I'm using my gymboss timer to set up a two minute break interval and just going through the workout card. It isn't quite as much fun, but it does mean I can intersperse my weights with calls home. Being so distant has meant that my calls back home are a high priority, so I do not skip them - that uses up most of the evening.
The cat who came with the apartment is much friendlier now. Unfortunately ... someone noticed the little house I'd coaxed her into using, and it turns out we are not allowed to have anything like a house on our decks (I am *so* used to being able to do anything I like with my property!). That doesn't bode well for a cat who lives outdoors, so we are hoping to get her into a crate and send her back to Idaho to live with my family. Poor kitty, and I'll miss her, but I don't think she'd enjoy being an apartment-only cat after living free so long.
Janie, so fun to see your jewelry show up online from time to time. You've got a real talent for design. I'm glad you followed your dream of sharing your creativity with others.
I see we have a member who is probably not all that new - with a boxer spirit. Your child asked a tough question. It seems to me, though, that competitive boxing as you describe it bears as little resemblence to most playground fights as singing does to a child having a temper tantrum. Competitive boxing is about skill, and challenge, and agreeing to test one's self against a willing partner. A meanspirited playground fight is about bullying. If skill is used, it's used cruelly. It only looks the same to people who do not understand.
Well, it *is* time to call home now, so hi to Michelle, Laura, Renee, Janie and everyone else I've been missing! Hope to catch up with you again one of these days. I'm on travel again, three days for work then three days home with family
, then back to the east.
