Getting Our Licks In!

Ok so now I'm done with the lifting and doing the recumberant bike because it easier to type on....:) and I can check in better!

Last thursday I subbed the morning Cardio Burn class and then stayed for the yoga class right after. Ivebeen enjoying getting more yoga in a lot and I am actually considering doing the Core Power yoga training(only because it's the most affordable yoga training I can find.

Janey: I hope you post pictures soon of all the hard work you and Joey are doing on the each house.... I like the61/2 month rotation, it is a long time commitment but I live STS so much I don mind, Cathe did originally design it for that but added the 3 month rotation because she knew people would shy away from such a lengthy program (read that Ina thread some where). It's taking me even longer to do because of my crazy schedule but like I said I enjoy it!! I'm rally getting some definition in m arms that is hard for me to do! Yay,!

Michelle: welcome home, spring is unusually warm here it's more like early June weather.... We are desperate for moisture & although I am happy for the warmth now it does worry me about draught & fires later in the summer.... I had a little spaz of jealousy of you doing the Cathe favorites! Like you said do any Cathe's and so little time... Say hi to Your sister when you talk to her!

Renee welcome to our check in! I mostly post from my iPhone or iPad so image tons of typos! It's just the ay of technology! I hope it doesn't discourage you from checking in and I don't mind typos at all..., what happened to your heel? I can understand the Cathe withdrawal I recently had a bad accident & couldnt exercise for a full month..., needless to say I was a little more grumpy than normal!

It has been mostly a dreary day but the sun is finally peaking out. Guess it rained over night and was just cloudy this morning. Ripken and I have had some nice walkabouts and happily have not gotten wet. I did All Step today--I like the music on All Step. Thinking I will do 10-10-10 tomorrow.

Renee: welcome to our group. I don't usually post from my iphone although the Cathe app was the first app that I put on my iphone when I got it last fall. I've posted from my iphone once, but it seemed pretty straight-forward.

Laura: yes, you are right Cathe did originally do a 6-month rotation for STS. I forgot about that.

Janie: I wanted to do some yard work this weekend, but the rain but an end to that idea. I'm hoping I can get a little done one evening this week, assuming that the ground dries out. Guess we'll see how that goes.

Michelle

Hello all.. i wanted to b able to intraduce myself better. Lol i really would love to hear more about all of you as well. However like i said i am posting from phone again. I tried to go on computer but when i go to our thread it takes me all the way to 06 or 07? What am i doing wrong? Well i thought i had heel spur.. i was hurtn on n off some for about three weeks but i ignored it. Last sat i did bootcamp and i jogged three miles and i was n worse pain the last mile. So sunday i could not get out of bed. Finaly went to doc and they think it is fractured. I had mri friday and they wont tell me til next friday. I think im to heavy on my feet plus i have osteopena. I need to lose 25 pounds now! Lol. How can i do that sitting? Lol i am on a web site myfitnesspals it helps keep calorie count at least.
Also it may take a while to get all your names. Lol. You all reaaly rock on your woorkouts. What are your fav cathe?

Today was heavy gardening again for a couple of hours plus I did disc 30, shoulders, triceps and biceps.

Laura, Great job on Thursday's Cardio Burn Class and Yoga after. You are good typing with the recumberant bike. Yea for more Yoga. It does a body good. LOL;) The next time I get to the Beach House I will take pictures. But it really isn't done yet, will just show what we've done so far. It may be a while before I go, perhaps in 2 or 3 weeks. Kids need our help babysitting, and other things...life you know. I think you doing STS for 6 months is wonderful. Do you feel it better rather than the 3 months? I'm also starting to feel my muscle bulge but really can't see it yet. But there is plenty of time for that, I'll just keep working on it.

Michelle, Hopefully you will have better weather for your yard work soon. Great job on you and Ripken with the walkabouts and All Step. I love 10-10-10. Enjoy.

Renee, It's hard to heal and stay on an exercise program. And I know how frustrating that can be. You can do other things other than using your legs, sit ups, upper body work...It's OK to let yourself heal and then come back to it with a healthy come back. You'll get there. Swimming is really good too. Under water exercises come to mind also. Great job on keeping track of calories going in, that will help lose your weight. I've heard good things about My Fitness Pals.

Joey's (my hubby, age 74 in July I will be 61 in April) wife passed away from cancer and this is his 2nd marriage. This is my 3rd marriage of 21 years in June. We have 5 children between us 3 girls and 2 boys. The eldest is working as a pharmacist (Cyndi), the next one is an environmental engineer (David) The next one is in advertisement (Tina), the next is a manager at a bank (Monique) and the last is an emergency doctor in Vegas (Dan). My Joey and I are 13 years apart and since Joey has already retired I did too, so that I can pick up and leave to travel anytime we want to. We just purchased two lots near the beach in Westport, Wash. and fixing up a 1975 motor home that came with the property. It's taking a lot of time and work and hopefully will be able to live in it during this Summer.

Well ladies, have a good evening and take care,

Janie

Happy Monday! Bright sunshiny day here in Virginia. Ripken and I had a really nice walkabout this morning and then back to the house for Cross Train 10-10-10. I told sister yesterday that I believe I am due for a new pair of workout shoes: my feet are hurting which is ususally the "sign" that it is time for new shoes. I think I'm going to go through all my shoes in my closet and decide which need to be retired for good. Kind of running out of room for new ones.

Renee: I hope that you do not have a fracture. What a bummer that would be. Of course, anything involving the tendons could be a bummer as well. Do you have a bike that you could ride. Going easy of the feet doesn't mean you can't do upper body weight work and core. Light Yoga might provide some options as well depending on what is going on with your foot. A little bit about me: I live in Northern Virginia and work with the military. My Joe and I are coming up on our 20th wedding anniversary this summer. I am his third spouse; he is my first. There is 16 years between our ages. He is older; I am younger. We have a wonderful golden retriever named Ripken who is 11 years old. I post about him alot. He is my baby and inspired the name of our group because he gets his licks in every morning, licking the sweat off me after I exercise.

Janie: way to go on your STS workout. Disc 30--you are moving right along. Almost to the end of the 3rd mesocycle. WooHOO!

Speaking of WooHOO! Made the hotel reservations for sister and me for this summer's Cathe Roadtrip. Glassboro here we come, again!

Laura you do a great job on yourr phone.. so what yoga is that?

Janie: I bet it is great to have grands.. i dont have any i have sisters who have them and they tell me how great it is. My boys havnt found the right girl yet i guess. I am sure its exciting to be able to travel now! How do you liike STS.. i am not gonna get that til i lose weight at least some weight. I have weight workouts for now anyway.but id lov to hear any results you have had.

Michelle that is so exciting you get to meet Cathe!! Is this the first time? I have all step so how and what is 1010 10 like? I love hearing what others think of the workouts. Have you also tried STS? And i have bought 3 pair of shoes and still not good. They feel to hard to me. Weird i know!
Well i did do upper body ME. So i got to move alittle. Lol. Goodnight all!

Miche

Happy Monday! I taught a private in Town, than visited a friend in the middle of the day & we took a hot tub.....note to self hot tubbing before teaching 2 classes in a row isnt such a 'hot' idea.... Way low motivation & heart rate seemed to spike more than normal...but I got through them... :).

Wow kinda cool to hear little synopsis's of Janie & Michelle... I'm a 40 year old mother of twins... I've been with my husband since college, we met in HS, I teach Pilates and some various other fitness classes. We live in the Rocky Mountains of CO. We have a sweet beautiful Great Pyrenees whose almost two years old and wo kitties!! I love all Cathe workouts.... My first workout was Butts & Gutts in 2007 & it nearly darn killed e the first time I did it!

I also have animals, how could i have forgot them!! I have a lab named Duke he is gettin up there in the years.. he used to be king of the dogs in the area lol now he has retired i think! I also have a cat name Raven he to is old, I have an inside god her name is mable, she was the ugliest in the bunch, well to me she is not ugly just raggady kind of lol. Other people say "oh shes so hmm what is she?" lol I love her she is so beautiful to me.. I think she is cute in a sweet way, I need to learn how to post pics on here.

Had a wonderful rest day today.

Michelle, After I'm done with STS I'll be doing Gym Styles for one month. Great job on yours and Ripkens walkabout and 10-10-10. New shoes sound great. OH! How exciting about making hotel reservations to Cathe's Road Trip this Summer. You guys always have such fun.

Renee, It is wonderful to have grandchildren. We have 4 of them and all are boys. LOL:D I absolutely love STS. If you want to lose weight don't wait to lose weight to do STS, do it now. If I were you, I'd do the 6 month rotation. You won't regret it. I've lost weight, inches and gained muscle with this rotation.

Laura, Great job on the private class. Personal training afterwords from a hot tub really drains you. Poor thing. I'm going to ask Joey to start up our hot tub. I miss it!

Renee, Your animals sound so sweet. What a nice menagerie of part of your family. Love to see photos of them.

Good night Ladies, see you all tomorrow.

Janie

Today I subbed again this morning for Cardio Burn & then taught Pilates. I'm supposed to do STS today but feeling run down & unmotivated. I didn't sleep great last night & my throat was a little sore this morning. There are 5 big fires already and it sent even fire season in fact it's supposed to be the snowiest month and we havent had any?.,,:-(

Renee I forgot to say something about your ankle! I hoe you hear something soon & make sure you clear your exercise from your dr but I agree that working your upper body is a good idea and ofcourse tightening up the nutrition while exercise is limited is a,ways a good idea but honestly I almost always eat worse when I can't exercise instead of better

Janie ah a rest day! Yes you must get Joey on the hot tub! I thought you hadn't mentioned it in awhile

Spring is on vacation today. I actually had to put my winter jacket on this morning when I walked Ripken. He, of course, loves the cooler weather. But this dog mommy was really liking it a little warmer in the morning. Oh well, the hot weather will be here soon enough. I did Cross Train Express Kick Box this morning. That's a pretty fun workout. I'm always amazed when I get through the two sets of power lunges (32 each time!) I remember the first time I did that workout--the power lunges just about did me in. I still feel them, but thanks to Cathe, I feel them in a good way. Had to go over to the Pentagon today for a meeting. I'm always amazed at how many people are in that building--over 20,000 work there. Think how many cups of coffee they go through every day? They do have a really great gym at the Pentagon. I've never been to it, but folks say that it is really, really nice.

Laura: yeah, I'm thinking sitting in a hottub before exercising probably made you feel wiped out. I know how I feel when I get out of our hot tub--which is ready to go to sleep.

Renee: I'm with Janie; don't feel like you have to lose weight before you do STS because the program is designed to let you lift what you can and build from whatever your starting point is. I don't know if you are checking out Cathe's deals of the day, but they really are making workouts available at super good prices. They had STS on sale last week for a really good price. Maybe they will put it up again before the end of the month if you do not already have it. BTW, this will be my third Cathe Roadtrip and my sister's second. So, yes, I have met and spoken with Cathe, her partner Chris, Cedie, Brenda, Jai, and Lorraine. And, I've met many of the folks who are part of the Cathe forums. It's a fantastic weekend.

Janie: what is on your "active recovery" list for this week? You do an active recovery week before you start your gym style month, don't you? Sister was going to look for the rotation that Cathe posted for you; she was thinking about doing the month after STS. I thought it was Gym Styles but wasn't sure.

So Laura's first Cathe workout was B&G--one of my favorites! I found Cathe on FitTV 4 years ago (before Oprah ruined it) and couldn't keep up. So, I checked out her website and order Basic Step--which was my first official Cathe workout. Took me 2-3 weeks to feel like I wasn't going to die doing Basic Step which seems funny now. Then I moved on to Body Fusion and Low Impact Step. My first advanced Cathe was Rhythmic Step--also one of my favorites.

Not much to report yet, I am going tomorrow and get a hair trim and color. I hope it turns out okay, it seems i never go and when i do they never do a good job. Once i had a Women who did wonderful, then she went else where and I cannot find her.. lol

Oh Hot tub sounds devine!!! I have a cold now with the weather change so that would be nice right about now.

Does anyone enjoy reading when they have the chance? I am reading Dean Koontz, 77 shadow street. I love his books but for some reason, this one is really not that good. It is confusing and boring! Never thought id say that about him.

I love your dogs name!! Ripkin? so cute! I think i am going to try to do a low impact step tomorrow and see if it will be okay to do. I can walk on my foot now so we will see. It is still like a bruise.

Talk at you guys tomorrow !!

Did the Wedding Video today. Nice sweat at the end.

Laura, Great job subbing CB and Pilates class. OMG! 5 Fires? Unbelievable. Way to early for that. Get your strength back so you can do STS when ready.

Michelle, I have 7 more STS discs to go yet before I'm finished with STS then a Cardio Coach (in memory of) recovery week. Then Gym Style. Cant' wait! Here is the link to the rotation Cathe gave me:

Great job walking Ripken in such cold weather and CTKB this morning. Oh yes those power lunges are something else. I would be at the Pentagon's gym everyday if I were you! OMG!

Renee, I hope your hair will turn out beautiful. Be positive,"My hair will be fabulous, My hair will be fabulous, My hair will be fabulous...Now I'm being silly. lol:D I'm a reader, but haven't read Dean Koontz yet. Have some of his books, should get into one. We'll see. I'm glad your foot is feeling a little better.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Spring is back. Yeah! Ripken and I did a long walk this morning. The boy is slowing down. I'm not sure once the weather gets hot and humid that he will be able to handle the long walks. I can get up earlier to beat the heat but at some point that doesn't really make a difference. Did Cross Train Express Circuits today. I wish it just had the step circuits and no hi/lo at the beginning but so it goes. The back work was killer today and then abs. One of those days where everything was shaking during the ab work.

Janie: I obviously forgot how many discs there are in STS. Go figure. I look for that wedding workout video on ebay every once in a while but I've never seen it. Maybe I'll ask Cathe if she would ever consider re-releasing that workout.

Renee: I do not read Dean Koontz although I like his Christmas books that he did with his golden retriever, Trixie. And I think he has a new book out about his golden and how she changed his life. Being a golden retriever mommy, I just naturally gravitate to stuff like that. I read Crossroad Cafe by Catherine Smith while on vacation earlier this month. It was very good. She is a southern writer and I have a tendency to gravitate toward southern women writers. I get my hair done this Friday. I had been going to the same person for about 27 years but she cut back on her hours so I have switched to another hairdresser in her salon who has a very similar hair-handling style. I love going to get my hair done--it is my two hours of pampering every 8-9 weeks. And my hairdresser always does a great job. I've been very fortunate in this department.

Laura: so, things look a bit tense out in Colorado. Are you and your family okay? Sounds like ya'll need some rain--and not just a little bit.

~michelle

Did disc 31 Chest and Back. Used 22-25# dumbells in each hand depending on the exercise. Yea! Felt a little clicking sometimes so was very very careful and got through it. That bothered me, but I didn't injure myself. It might be a sign that the weight was a little too heavy for me. Next time I will adjust the weight. 50# bench pressing felt good.:) Next time will use the turbo bar and go a tad heavier. Still cautious with the deadlifts, I simply am afraid of them, so for two sets I did supermans. I hope that was comparable.

Michelle, Great job for you and Ripken taking that long walk. I love Spring days! Dear little Ripkens, he's using his body up. Give him a nice long petting for me OK? Great job on CTEC. Love those days when everything shakes, means you are giving it your all. Good work! Here is the rotation Cathe gave me:

Hi Janie! Good for you for looking for continued progress and success.

Do STS in its entirety.

Take one week off.

Do Gym Styles for one month!

Do the low impact series for two weeks.

Do Four Day Split for one month.

Do Shock Cardio Series for two weeks

Do STS Meso two and Meso three

All the while eat a super clean diet. I tweak the Paleo diet to suit my needs. But basically eat very lean lean, natural, non processed foods, lots of dark green veggies, brown rice, sweet potatoes, quinoa, healthy fruits in small portions, fish, poultry, etc. Water, green tea are my main source of liquids. I throw in some organic 100% pure tart cherry juice for my joints and a great source of antioxidants too.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

I hope Renee and Laura are having a good day.;)

Rhythmic Step was tonight and did a lot of it, but not all of it. It was wonderful, fast and with fantastic cuing. You just can't get better than that. Whew!

Take care ladies,

Janie

Good morning everyone. Yesterday was so busy I just didn't get a chance to post. Yesterday I did Cross Train Express Step Intervals after little Rippy and I did our walkabout. My legs were feeling super tired and I even thought about stopping 5 minutes into the workout, but I pushed on. Fortunately, the more I did, the better I felt. However, today is a rest day. So happy for a rest day!:p

We have not heard from Laura in a few days. I hope she and her family are okay. Those fires in Colorado look terrible. Let's keep good thoughts going for her.

Janie: you know that RS is one of my favorites. Good idea not to push when you hear something click or if you are a little afraid of an exercise. I actually think the fear factor creates the potential for injury just because...if you know what I mean.

Gas prices are going crazy here. How about where you all live? Premium is up to $4.25/gallon and regular is $3.99. I hope the oil companies are enjoying their riches because they are really putting a hurt on everyone else. I fail to see any joy in the situation.

Hello.. sorry for not checking in. I have been in bed with flu! I am still not up to par. I do have a follow apt today about my foot. So iwill let you all know how it goes. When i rains it poors! Hope every one has a great day.

Disc 32, Plyo Legs. LOVED IT!

Michelle, Are gas is about the same price. Just don't understand that. Foreign dependency I guess. I do know what you mean about the fear factor playing a role in injury. You are so right! I will have positive thoughts going to Laura. Hope everything is OK. Great job on yesterday's CTE SI and your walkabout with your Ripken. Good for you pushing on into your workout. Enjoy your rest day.

ReneeP, So sorry you have the darn flu.:( Hope you will get over it soon. Please keep us posted on your foot as well. You poor thing.

Take care ladies and have a good evening.
