Getting Our Licks In!

I did it again! My back is hurting and can't exercise. I really thought I was being gentle too. I'm so disappointed I could scream! Can't even sneeze without hurting. I just don't understand. Should I not exercise? It should be OK in a few days, taking ibuprofen and it does work for the pain. Iced it yesterday and will again today then will put heat on it tomorrow. This old body is breaking down. So so discouraged. I don't want to give up yoga.

Michelle, Great job on X-10 Low Impact and Step. I do understand they are tough and you are great doing them. Good for you. I should have said I don't remember the last time I did a yoga practice. Seems like years, but it may be months. I'm so disappointed in myself and my body. Just can't seem to get ahead.

Cindy
, So sorry you had a little surgery in the dentist office. Not fun, I'm sure. Great job on Slide and Glide cardio/stretch. Do be careful while driving on ice. Be safe.

Kathy Sis, I'm glad you rested your arm yesterday. And will be doing what your PT has suggested for you tonight.

Cindy, Great job on 20 min. Pilates workout. Love the idea of exercising with the family. Great idea on their part.

Michelle, Great job walking with Ripken. Wow 70 degrees? I envy you and Ripken. Great job on Glutes time saver 2 this morning. Seeing stars? You are working hard! Way to go!

Take care everyone,

Janie

Last night the pt exercises helped. Tonight I'll stick w/cardio. I had rec'd in the mail CTX dvd. I originally had it on VHS & the tapes wouldn't play anymore. I'm going to do 10-10-10 which I haven't done in years. I'll start a rotation using CTX but substitute some of the step workouts.

Michelle: Your getting 70 degrees today! We're getting 60 but its gloomy & its supposed to rain later. I do have every workout of Cathe's except for the Timesavers. I could kick myself for not purchasing this set. I'll do the CTX weight work splitting up the upper body parts & just using my tubing. The only exercise I still have a problem with is the lateral raise. I love Great Glutes. I know those pizza presses just go on & on & on.

Cindy: Brrrr to your temperature. Bundle up plenty on that walk to the post office. That's great your kids want to exercise w/you. I remember my DS used to exercise w/me. It was so funny watching him try to do hi-lo w/Kimberly Spreen. LOL I hope your tooth is better today.

Janie Sis: Both of us thought we were doing good things for our bodies doing yoga & look at us now! :( You'll be better in a few days & you'll be back at it I just know it.

Take care,
Kathy

Kathy Sis, A rotation using CTX sounds good. Let me know when you get it together. Would love to see what you did with it. Glad the PT exercises helped your elbow. Enjoy your cardio tonight. My back went hurting after a bout with STS. Yoga (I think aggravated it). Let's see what happens after this is healed and look again what I'll do without injury. :(

Take care,

Janie

All three kids joined me for the 20 min Athletic Training workout and it was super cute. They were working so hard and even Lucas was up on the step with me doing squats. Dave got it on video though I wouldn't let him post it on FB :) After they were in bed I cleaned most of the house and will wrap the rest up tonight. We have a busy weekend with haircuts and pottery painting tomorrow (I always have the kids paint pottery for the grandparents for Christmas) then we'll visit Santa and go to the day care Christmas party on Sunday. The whirlwind of December :)

I have gone through and planned my workouts for the entire month - if I can stay on track through the end of the year I will be very happy.

Michelle - Glad you're getting out an enjoying some warm and fresh air for me :)

Janie - I'm so sorry you hurt your back, that's so frustrating! At 34 I feel like my body gives out on me too - it's hard aging! Don't let it get it you down and it will come around again.

Kathy - So glad those PT exercises helped you. It is so cute seeing kids do our exercises, it does help me appreciate how difficult the easier moves really are.

Cindy

Very busy day yesterday. Didn't get to exercise but I'm just going to move on to today and not worry about it. Was busy yesterday with Christmas shopping, decorating the tree, and taking care of the pup. We really have to watch him and his licking now. I've started wrapping a cool wet towel around his leg which seems to help and impedes the licking. I have a flex train premix to do today although I might just do the whole workout just because....

Janie: my heart goes out to you with a hurt back. I know how debilitating that is. I'm curious as to how the yoga aggravated your back; I would have thought that some gentle yoga would have helped to relax the muscles.

Cindy: well the winter weather is working its way east. It is going to be cold but no where near as cold as what you have been experiencing. I would love to see the video of you and your children exercising together. That is wonderful. Hope ya'll have a great time with your activities today.

Kathy: you know, Christmas is coming; maybe you could treat yourself to another one or two of Cathe's new dvds. I check the holiday specials everyday but I don't think I've seen those on the specials, but you could use the coupons. Something to think about. Did you get the Cross Train Express on one of the specials? I think I saw it on the web several times for a really great price.

Laura: we have not heard from you. Hope you are just busy with Christmas activities. Are the twins in the Nutcracker this year?

Have a wonderful Saturday everyone!
Michelle

My back, which I must have pulled a muscle during STS series, was aggravated when I continued on thinking Yoga would make it feel better. Instead it hurt even worse. Today it is a little sore, but so liveable and my foot is tight and not hurting. On Monday will continue my 6.5 STS rotation with the addition of Yoga on the days without weight training. I'll cross my fingers and toes for wonderful workouts.

Thank you for all your support. It made it easier to endure the injuries waiting to heal. I do appreciate you guys so much. Hearing about what you are doing and about to do the next day made it so motivating for me to begin again. What a beautiful Christmas present from all of you.

Will be sending out Christmas cards this year (today and tomorrow) so please, message me with updated address so they will reach you. I have a lot to be thankful for.

Cindy, What fun! Enjoying exercising as a family. Would loved to have seen a video on that. LOL How adorable! Great job on cleanmax and wrapping up the gifts. After you paint on the pottery do you use a kiln or do you have someone else fire it for you? Awwww, the kids will so enjoy Santa. Good idea to plan out your month of workouts.

Michelle, During these busy Holidays sometimes there will not be enough hours in the day to exercise. This is what Cathe says too. Glad to hear to are moving on to the next day and not worrying about a missed workout. Aww, poor Ripken. You are such a good mama to him. Give him lots of love from Joey and I and Higgin and Rolly.

Love you guys,

Janie

Well, I'm just kicking butt today. Got the whole of Flex Train done, three loads of laundry, air in my SUV's tires, and some inside decorating. DH and I are heading out shortly to run some errands. We bought a new dishwasher last weekend, but when they came to install it this past week, it was about a half inch too high for the space, so back to Lowe's we go today to pick out another one that will fit. We are starting out at the same place and then separating to different stores.

Janie: I find that when my back is sore that lots of child poses, and cat and cow poses really help. Just remember, slow and easy wins the race with a sore back.

Michelle

Hey ya'll long time no post….

I have been exercising I just have been so busy I haven't had a chance to check-in because I feel like I have to go back and see what ya'll been up to so I decided just to hop back in and start fresh..

Today I did Flex Train for the first time. It was hard. I just wasn't that into it. My left shoulder has been hurting and I don't like the fast pace of compound exercises. But I kinda just went through the motions and got through it.

Tonight is the girls last performance of the Nutcracker! It has been a lot this year with everything going on and I think we are all ready for it to be over this year! Everything seems to be happening so fast with Thanksgiving falling so late.

My house was one where we have had no natural gas for over two days in these freezing temperatures and we lost power last night for a bit too!:( But everything is back and running now. It sure does remind you of how much we take for granted and how much we do have to be grateful for here.

Please message me your addresses for Christmas cards.

Michelle, Great job on today's Flex Train, laundry, air in tires and decorations. Wow you did kick butt! I will take your advice and do cat and child posses. Should help a lot.

Laura, Glad to hear from you and you are still doing exercises. Great job on Flex Train, yep, it's hard for sure. You did good with the shoulder hurting. How was the girls last performance of the Nutcracker? Please stay warm and cozy. Our weather has been in the single digits lately at night and very early mornings. Brrrrr. It's been a long snap of freezing weather here. Not too normal but it does happen.

Take care,

Janie

Nice walk with my sweet pup this morning before we started getting a "wintry mix." I'm doing much better at keeping his leg covered today so he does not lick the tumor and make it bleed. DH brought the baby gates (from Ripken's puppy days) up from the basement and we have those set up so he can't go into the living room and lick. It's like we've come full circle with him with the reemergence of the baby gates. Puppy is stretched out here in the kitchen if front of his fan right now with his leg wrapped in a towel.

Janie: I did private message you wrt to addresses. Hope your back is feeling better.

Kathy: what type of "wintry mix" are you getting in NY?

Laura: Oh wow, another season of the Nutcracker for your girls. Are they 13 yet? Seems like they should be around that age now. You and Cindy have had some really cold weather the past week. Hopefully the severe cold will subside. Stay safe!

Michelle

It was a busy weekend with a few surprises thrown in. Friday night we lost power at 2:30am and it was a balmy -20! I was giving thanks on Saturday morning that we had a wood burning stove to keep the house warm, a gas range so I could still boil water and cook breakfast for the family, and instant coffee! They had it up again by 8:40 so all was well though houses in our neighborhood that didn't have an alternative heat source got down to 50 in that short time. I think that will make a few people consider emergency preparedness for the future.

I did Afterburn 1-5 on Friday night and the burn kicked in on Saturday so I took the day off. I was busy with errands and didn't sit much. Sunday we went to see Santa and I was a little annoyed when he was 30 min late, called Brodie "Bradie" and then they didn't give me the CD I had paid for so I had to go back. I felt it was justified for him to hold a poopy and stinky baby for the picture since he was late :) The kids had a blast so that's what matters.

Tonight I'm going to do Slide & Glide Muscle conditioning and I'm looking forward to it.

I'll try to post the video on here, hopefully it works better than my pics.

Janie - I'll shoot you my address and send one back to you :) The studio that has the pottery and paint fires it for us and then we can pick it up a week after we paint. It's really a fun place and the kids have a great time. I hope your injuries are all quiet soon!

Michelle - I love productive days - glad you got a lot accomplished. Poor Ripken - lots of kisses and hugs to him.

Laura - It's that time of year to go crazy! Glad you're keeping up with your exercise at least and sorry you went through no heat also - it's frustrating when you don't know when it will be back again.

Cindy

12-9-13

Had a busy weekend. Managed to squeeze in a workout on Saturday of KCM's step boxing workout #1 + CTX chest. I didn't want to use the barbell b/c of my arm. Just used the dbs. This workout took my breath away. Had to shorten the reps as I forgot how hard it is. Sunday was Turbo Fire 30 Class + CTX back & bis. The back workout I decided to use the bb at only 25#s & also was able to use the 20# dbs. However, biceps are another matter. Started with 10# dbs but something was feeling wonky with the bad arm & dropped it to 8s. Felt much better. Concentration curls w/the bad arm is still only at 5s. I had some DOMS in my chest. Tonight will be CTX Leaner Legs & Abs. I'm only planning on using the 25# bb & see how the arm feels.

Saturday night my next door neighbors had a pit fire Xmas party. It was fantastic! The house has so many lights everywhere & they even have Santa sitting in a red box with an air balloon on top!!! Food & drinks a plenty. Needless to say Sunday I had a little bit of a hangover but still managed to do everything I wanted in spite of feeling lousy. LOL

Janie Sis: Hope your back keeps healing as well as your foot. Are you still getting around using the crutches? Don't forget to pm me w/your address. You had asked how I'm using CTX in my rotation. This is what I planned:
Sat: KCM's step boxing workout #1 + CTX chest
Sun: Turbo Fire 30 Class + CTX back + biceps
Mon: Leaner Legs + Abs
Tues: X10 hi-lo or CTX 10-10-10 + CTX shoulders
Wed: RPS #1 (combos 1-3) + CTX triceps + Rapid Fire #2 abs
Thurs: either Rodney Yee's short yoga or Cathe's Extended Stretch
Fri: OFF

Cindy: That's so cute that the kids did Athletic Training even Lucas. I love pottery painting. What are the kids making for the grandparents? I hope that your planned workouts will keep you on track.

Michelle: You sure were busy yesterday!!! Bad weather in NY but it could be worse. Dreary very cold & wet today. Tomorrow we're expecting 3-6 inches. Did the vet say anything about removing Rippy's tumor? I happen to love Flex Train. I finally rec'd in the mail the CTX dvd. I lucked out b/c it was the Deal of the Day as well as Black Friday. Got it for only $26.00. The only one that I don't have of Cathe's is the Timesaver. I should buy that one too don't you think?

Laura: You have been busy. How did the girls do in the Nutcracker? I'm sure they gave a wonderful performance. No power or heat for 2 days!!! That does take me back to Hurricane Sandy. Glad everything now is back to normal. Stay warm.

Take care,
Kathy

I'm thinking since my foot is still a little sore and my back is so much better but still feel twinges, that I will wait until after Christmas to start all over again. STS from the beginning. I'll keep track of all your doings though. LOL:)

Michelle, Great job on the walk with Ripken this morning. I hear you on our Ripken boy. What a sweet pup.

Cindy, Wow, so inconvenient when power goes out. So glad you guys made it through OK. We have our emergency set up too, sometimes our power fails as well. Great job on Afterburn 1-5 on Friday and the rest on Sat. Aw, sorry about Santa not getting Brodie's name right. Not good. And having to go back for the CD. Your right if the kids had a good time then it was worth it.

Kathy Sis, Great job on Sat. KCM's step boxing workout 1 and CTX chest. It doesn't surprise how challenging that was. And for Sun. Turbo Fire 30 class and CTX back and bis. Wise to adjust for the back and biceps. Also for Sat. nights pit fir Xmas party. That sounds so fun!

No more crutches thank goodness. I only used them about a week. It was worth it.

OOOOOOOOOO really like your rotation! I'm copying it, thank you.

Have a good one,

Janie

12-10-13

Last night was Leaner Legs & Abs. I used the 25# bb & 8 & 10 dbs. Arm is sore today but not bad. I forgot how many deadlifts Cathe does in this. Yowza! It was tough walking up all the staircases to get to my train this morning. I definitely didn't care for the ab section. Way too many crunches for me. We just don't work our abs this way anymore.

I'm going to switch up the cardio tonight. Instead of doing X10 hi-lo (my legs are toast) I'll do RPS #1 (combos 1-3) & then CTX shoulders.

Janie Sis: Thx for sending me your address. Card's on the way. :) I think that's a good idea that you rest up & start back up until after Xmas. We want you to be completely healed.

Cindy: How frustrating re Santa & especially for not getting Brodie's name correct. I would've had a few choice words for him out of earshot of the kids. I never did that premix from Slide & Glide muscle conditioning. I've have to check that out. Thank goodness you have a wood burning stove & a gas stove. Your giving me flashbacks of Sandy when we had no power.

Michelle: How's Rippy doing? Has the baby gate helped?

TTYL,
Kathy

I got the S&G Muscle Conditioning workout in last night, I had to move to the blue band for the legs work and it burned. Not sure if my green band is getting too stretched out or if I just needed to move up :) I am hoping to do a Timesaver workout but I may be limited on time tonight and have to do something more around the 30 min time frame. Brodie has his Christmas Program tonight, he even has lines, so we'll be home later than our norm. Either way I'll get something in!

Kathy - So glad you got to enjoy the Christmas Party and it sounds like you burned enough calories to burn any extras off from it :) I had Lucas put his hand print on a round ornatment for both sets of grandparents, Lily painted a candy cane and snowflake ornament, and Brodie painted an owl and egg shaped ornament. I'm looking forward to picking them up.

Janie - It's hard to make the decision to take a break but I think it's a good idea to let your body full heal. I'm so thankful my foot finally is better, it took a good 3 weeks.

Cindy

12-11-13

Last night was RPS #1 (combos 1-4) + CTX shoulders. For some reason I wasn't feeling it with the step. Probably just too tired. My arm felt great during the lateral raises & front raises. The pain is still there but not much. I think next week I'll just do the Travel Fit workout 2x & give my arm a rest. Then the following week start back up again with the weights.

Tonight I was supposed to do the X10 hi-lo but just not feeling cardio. I'll do a warm up & then go into CTX triceps & abs instead. It must be the weather that has me in a funk.

Cindy: Those pottery pieces that the kids made sound lovely. The grandparents are going to love their gifts. Glad you managed to do S&G. Its such a busy time of the year just do what you can & don't worry about it. How did Brodie do last night?

Michelle: Yesterday I went into Cathe's Deal of the Day & there was Timesaver dvd. I couldn't believe it. I purchased it w/out another thought. It was a steal. How's Rippy today?

Janie Sis: What other recipes have you made from Against All Grains. Not sure I got the title of the book right. How's the back & foot feeling today? Can you use your bike for a while?

Take care everyone,
Kathy

The Christmas Program for Brodie was really cute, they sang and talked and looked like they had a lot of fun. He did fine with his line so that was a relief. The evening was a bit of a whirlwind after that but I did the Timesaver #1 - step & arms. I forgot how much fun it is - my arms are sore today and so is my core around the ribs, I did something right. Tonight I'm trying the Athletic Training leg express workout, my arms need a bit of a break tonight. I did order the new P90X3 yesterday, I think I'll start it on the 1st. Tony can be annoying but a 30 min workout is really all I have time for most nights so this should be a good one for me. I'm hoping Dave will join me :)

Kathy - Even if you were in a funk you at least did something so that's awesome! So glad the pain is diminishing.

Cindy

Last night I had a chance to read all the posts but ran out of time to actually post myself!

Monday: I did mini reformer workouts between clients
Tuesday:I taught my two classes and I did Cross Fire for myself. I am really liking Cross Fire as it becomes more familiar. I wasn't a huge fan at first…but it would be great to just do one of the segments on busy days…
Today: I did Rocking Step 1, such a fun fun step routine! and had an hour private on the reformer which felt amazing! I just love Pilates and it is soooo important for me to get my own lessons to stay motivated and in love with the work!

Tonight is the girls winter concert which is always lovely! The girls did great in the Nutcracker and the Boulder Ballet does any amazing production for a 'small' town!

So I have a confession to make….I have gained 15 pounds since this summer!!! HOLLY COW!!!:eek::confused::mad::( I know it's the stress but this has got to STOP!!! So asking for help, support ext…I want to lose it plus 5 by the summer so that is a total of 20 lbs to loose! How could I have let that happen….:(

Cindy: sounds like you are a busy momma! Timesavers is one of the workouts I don't have but I hear a lot about them this time of year! Didn't you recently loose some weight? How did you do it? Stay warm

Kathy: good to hear the arm is getting better! Wow ask and you shall receive on the Timesaver workouts how cool is that? I will be interested to hear what you think of them…

Janie: what crutches?! I missed something? Are you ok?

Michelle: How's the pup? Did you get the snow and cold weather? Are you still working out at work?

In to see how all of you are doing.

Kathy Sis, Great job on Leaner Legs and Abs. The weight is impressive.

Cindy, Great job on the S&G Muscles Conditioning. Blue band is tighter than the green? Important thing here is you felt the burn. How was Brodies Christmas Program?

Kathy Sis, Great job on RPS #1, 1-4 and CTX shoulders. You are right on the title of the book. Good memory. Been ab libbing on meals lately. Been in a little funk myself. LOL Back is much better, so is the foot. Foot is tight, hurts a little bit and still limping a little but better. It doesn't allow me to walk on it fully yet. Strange.

Cindy, I can imagine how cute the Christmas Program went. Great job on Timesaver #1 step and arms.

Laura, Please message me your new address if you want a card. LOL Promise I won't bother you again about it. Great job on Mon. mini reformer workout with clients. Tues. teaching two classes and Cross Fire. For today's Rocking Step 1 plus an hour on the reformer. Have a fun time enjoying the girls Winter concert. That's why we all all here, to motivate each other no matter what. Weight sneaks up on all of us, believe me. We support you in your endeavor to loose weight. I have gained too and will need your support as well. I sprained my foot and needed crutches to to help with the pain from going to the kitchen , to the bathroom, Living room... It was very helpful at the time and not needing it any longer. Taking so long for the foot to heal and decided to wait until after Christmas to continue with my rotation.

Take care everyone,

Janie

12-12-13

Last night I decided to do X10 Cardio Blast + CTX triceps. I suddenly had a burst of energy. Don't quite know where it came from but I'll take it. Those tuck jumps though were getting shallower & shallower. LOL Tonight I'll do Classical Stretch Total Body Vol. II. My girlfriend thinks this will heal me up faster. We'll see.

Laura: How was the Winter Concert yesterday? Do one of your girls want to dance professionally someday? Just wondering. You had great workouts. I too love Pilates but especially on the reformer. I wish I could take classes again. I've never done the complete Cross Fire just segments of it. Join the club on gaining weight. I gained 6#s over the summer due to too much ice cream & no matter what I do or eat it doesn't come off. I'm the type of person that eats 5x a day, small meals. Starting on Saturday I'll be doing a 90 day meal plan from the new Strong magazine. Hopefully the weight will shift. I'm open to suggestions too.

Cindy: Happy to hear that everything went well w/the Xmas Program. It must've been so cute. The Timesaver #1 step & arms is this from the Timesaver dvd? I just purchased this. I'm jealous that you purchased the P90X3. Let me know how you like it. I'll wait until my arm is all healed before buying it.

Janie Sis: Did you perhaps fracture your foot? Just wondering b/c its taking so long for it to heal. Sending cyber HUGS to you. Get better fast.

Take care,
Kathy
