Getting Our Licks In!

The Beards did show up and I have to tell you, it was the most enjoyable. We all had such a ball. Wish they didn't live in MI. Walked the beach the two days they were here for at least an hour each day. They also were health minded and we ate all wonderful foods. The Beards will be leaving tomorrow morning. I plan on getting started on the Wed. exercises with Cathe's Sept. rotation. Artist in Action was OK. I think the time I was there only two people showed up. It's OK. That was the last day until next year.

Cindy, Artist In Action is where I bring whatever project to the Gallery (drawing, painting). I brought a doodle (zentangle) I've started and continued it over there. I was there for only a couple of hrs. and put some work into it. I've been doing portraits with doodled hair. I'll show you a couple of photos of the portraits I do. This time around though (at the Gallery was just tangles/doodles.

Nothing like home sweet home. Enjoy the camping trip of what's left of it and also getting home.

Sounds like a wonderful time at the hot-springs with Lily and Brodie. LOL Also great job on the walk and tackling the laundry and a short ZUZKA workout. Congratulations on the DOM's

Kathy Sis, Great job on Cathe's Cardio Fusion step only premix. I'm getting excited too for the new DVD's. Stay safe with the thunder storm coming your way.

Michelle, Yes, I was the Artist In Action during the event. But while I was there (only a couple of hours) there were only two people that came in. And had no comments on what I was doing. Oh well. I can't wait to get started on the Sept. rotation. Will start the rotation on it's Wedn. and our Wedn. LOL Great job on yesterday's 4DH HIS and today's IMAX3 intervals only and the PUT. Yes, tomorrow is 4DS Bootcamp. Can't wait!

Take care everyone,

Janie

Morning!

Last night's workout I changed my mind & did instead the step mixed premix which unknown to me was only the warmup to BM2 which I always hated & then went right into the 5 drills from Drill Max. Definitely wasn't any fun b/c my legs were killing me from the barre workout the day before. Who knew that you could get such DOMS from barre.

Today will be my PT session. I can't believe she's starting me off with light weights already. Wish me luck.

Michelle: I looked over the Sept. rotation & I would have considered it except the 4th week has CTX. Unfortunately I only have that set on VHS & all the tapes don't work anymore. Great job on doing HIS. I could never quite master that last combo. Cathe's cuing was much to be desired on that one. And not to mention you did IMAX3 intervals. I always forget about this one. Not to mention you did PUT afterwards. Did I mention your a warrior? Yes you are. I can understand you spoiling Rippy since he had cancer. My DH & I tried desperately to save my cat, Lexington but he had very serious problems with his liver. Too far gone. I'm glad that Rippy is fine & doing well.

Janie: What in the world is zantgangle? Never heard of this. Sorry to hear that only 2 people showed up. That's disappointing but hope you had fun anyway. At least you had fun with your visitors. I always liked 4DS especially the weight work but not so much on the step workouts. I could never master both of those. But Bootcamp I really enjoyed.

Cindy: Busy mom you are for sure especially that school has opened & all the kids activities. Hope to talk to you soon.

Have a great ladies!
Kathy

Lily had her first cheer practice last night and she loved it, at least I don't have to worry about her breaking down there. It looks like we'll do 3-4 competitions starting in January and I'm excited about it. I will have to practice with her so I guess I'll be learning some cheers too :)

I weighed in this morning and lost 5 pounds last week, that's a motivator to keep on track with food. It's amazing what can happen when I stop snacking and get rid of temptations for myself. I did a short ZUZKA butt workout last night, I could really feel my legs and need to work on those muscle a bit more. I did get to bed early and was only woken once (only because Dave dealt with Lucas waking a lot and crying a lot) so I'm feeling pretty darn good today :) I think Lucas isn't feeling 100% and he's not taking full feedings (too busy moving) so he's getting hungry at night.

Janie - I love those! You really have a great talent! Bummer only a couple people showed up but at least you got to get some work done.

Kathy - Good luck with PT, I hope you aren't in too much pain afterwards. The first ZUZKA workout I did was fat burning, I've really liked her workouts so far so thanks for sharing her with me :)

Michelle - I'm always a little bit sleep deprived but it's been really bad these past couple weeks and I have to turn it around. I don't like waking up feeling tired and it just kills my motivation to do anything. Great job starting the Sept rotation!

Cindy

Wonderful weather here in Virginia. Ripken is loving our walkabouts again. Did only the upper body (bis and tris) from 4DS Bootcamp this morning. Didn't have time to do the whole thing because I had an early morning meeting at Quantico, so I opted for the weight work because tomorrow is a full cardio day.

Janie: too bad you only had two people at the artist in action event but it sounds like you've had a wonderful time with your family. But now that all the company have come and gone, time to get back to exercise. It will be great to share doing the Sept rotation with you.

Kathy: The CF premix with the drill max portion of the workout is a premix I have always avoided. Drill Max is hard and barre workouts are all about the legs, so know wonder you have/had DOMS. Hope the PT sessions go well. I'm guessing you will start with light weights.

Cindy: Ah, cheerleading is such good exercise and can be so much fine. I was a cheerleader in high school, way back before it got to be a competitive sport. You and Kathy both seem to enjoy Zuzka. Which dvds of hers do you own?

Okay--hope everyone sleeps well tonight.

9-5-13

Morning!

Didn't sleep well last night. The PT session was brutal. I have to stretch the arm out for 30 sec. 5x 10x a day! :O Had ultrasound again & then he had me hold 1# db to work my forearm on the underside of the arm to strengthen it.

Tonight I feel like doing Supercuts. I love this one even though some women didn't care for it. My girlfriend didn't like it. To each their own.

Cindy: I hope you're able to get more sleep. Are you doing the ZWOW's & if you are which ones? There are hundreds. I'm glad I introduced you to ZUZKA. Always here to help. (wink) I don't know how to insert those little facial icons. Do you like kickboxing? If you do, I could introduce you to Les Mills instructors from the UK. I'm sure you've heard of them. Or perhaps Susan Chung (Rapid Fire). I'm such an enabler aren't I? You can put one of them on your Xmas list for DH. Just a suggestion.

Michelle: The bis/tris section of Bootcamp I feel is TOUGH. Especially the bicep section. Good job on completing that & have a good meeting. Did you have to travel far for the meeting? Enjoy the Bootcamp cardio as that one is one of my favorites.

Janie: Did you do Bootcamp today? Can't remember the rotation. I Googled zantgangle. I love art so I'm very interested in this. I'd love to see the different patterns you came up with at the Artists in Action festival. You must be exhausted from all the company you had but its a good exhaustion.

Off to do some work.

Kathy

I got in a 30 min Fat Burning Barre workout last night and got to bed at a decent hour - now to get Lucas to stop waking up every 2-3 hours! Foods been going well for me and that's not the norm so I think the rushing around is good for me, keep me busy! Both kids have soccer tonight and I am planning to do a Hiit workout, it's been awhile...

Michelle - So glad the weather is perfect! I was never a cheerleader but it's fun seeing the excitement in Lily's face and if she loves it I'm happy to have her do it. I don't own any of the ZUZKA DVD's, I've been sampling her stuff off of Youtube. It's amazing how many free workouts they have on there for all sorts of stuff. Definitely a fun way to try some new things.

Kathy - I LOVE kickboxing, Cathe got me hooked. I've heard of Les Mills but haven't tried them, that will be my next things to seek out. I've enjoy Cathe's MMA workout but after 3 kids my bladder struggles with some of the jumping on that workout, hopefully I can kegel my way out of that :)

Last night was 4DS Bootcamp. Yawzie! Talk about a sweat-fest. I did modify of course. Now to get back (again) to where I'd like to be. It has been such a crazy month. A lot of work ahead of me, but looking forward to it.

Kathy, My Cyberspace Sis, Great job on the step mixed prem. and the 5 drills from Drill Max. I can't even imagine how sore your legs must have been especially doing the barre work the day before. Wow! Yep, I don't normally get a lot of DOM's for some reason, but with Barre work, I feel the pain for sure. You know they work!

Do you remember doodling or someone else doodling on their peechee's? A couple of people, one named Maria Thompson forgot the man's name. But they took that concept and named it Zentangle. They have all these marvelous patterns, (seems to be endless patterns) you sit down and draw the same pattern over and over again, in a clam mood, hence the Zen. And you keep going until it becomes a bigger picture. Look up Zentangle and you will see what I'm trying to elaborate. LOL

Cindy, Good job for Lily practicing cheering. Sounds like the competitions in Jan. will be a lot of fun. Congratulations for losing 5#'s. Yea! Looked up ZUZKA and I remember her! She is awesome! I remember looking for something to do to mislead my body if only for one workout and saw so many You Tubes she had. I tried it and Man O Man, she makes it look so easy! Glad to hear you are getting a little more sleep. Poor little Lucas, hope he feels 100% better soon.

Michelle, Great job on the wonderful/more tolerable weather walks with Ripken. Great job on the bis and tris from 4DS Bootcamp. Sometimes you have to accept a half workout. It's OK, better than no workout. I'm looking forward to sharing the Rotation with you too. YEA!

Kathy Sis, Hugs to you for having to go through pain like that. I know it isn't easy trying to get your elbow healed. Don't give up and hang in there. I did Boot camp yesterday. It was a wake up call! LOL When I'm done with the zentangle I'm doing, I'll post it. Yep, glad everyone got to come here, and loved every moment of it. But also nice to get back to normal.

Cindy, Terrific job on the 30 min. Fat Burning Barre workout last night. Hoe did the kids do in soccer practice? Did you do the HiiT workout? Give a kiss on Lucas cheek for me. I bet he is so cute. Pictures of all three?

Take care everyone,

Janie

Quick post. Ripken is still loving his morning walks, the humidity-free weather makes such a difference for him. I like it a little warmer but if my pup is happy, then I am happy. I hope it stays this way for a while. Today was either a cycle workout or cardio of choice: I went with Athletic Step--always a challenge for me but it felt good this morning and then my PUT. I need to add another exercise to my PUT. Will have to look online for suggestions.

Janie: welcome to the September rotation! We'll have a blast doing it together. I forgot to ask you yesterday: who is the Marine in your zentangle?

Kathy: I work with the Marine Corps--Quantico Marine Corps Base is only 8 miles from my house so I love having meetings there--closer than the 33 miles to my office in Alexandria, VA and none of the I-95 traffic. I personally like Supercuts--I think that it is a pretty challenging workout. I also like kickboxing which I think is on the rotation this Saturday.

Cindy: I wonder how you have energy at the end of your busy days to exercise. I'm impressed. Which HIIT did you do?

Hope everyone gets some good sleep tonight. We seem to be having a sleep deprivation issue of late. Fortunately, I have not caught that.
~michelle

Tonight was a fast walk on the beach with Rolly for 30 min.

Michelle, Great job on the walk with Ripken this morning. Also great job on Athletic Step (Wow a goody) and your PUT. Brandon is the Marine. My nieces hubby.

Sleep well everyone,

Janie

9-6-13 TGIF!!

Morning!

I tried to do Supercuts last night but unfortunately there were too many exercises that due to my arm I just couldn't do. Just stopped the dvd & stretched. I was so disappointed as the music ROCKS & I wanted to do it so bad. Oh well.

Tonight I think I'll do HIIT 30 min. from Turbo Fire w/Chalene Johnson. I LOVE TF!

If you've ever seen kickboxing from Les Mills or Susan Chung you would never do Cathe's kb again. IMO Cathe just doesn't do kb well. There's just not enough creativity in it for me. That's just my opinion. And as for MMA only the Boxing one I feel was any good. Don't blast me ladies please. I hope Cathe's Rockn Knockout one will be good. I keep hoping.

Cindy: Great job on doing those ZWOW's. FYI: ZUZKA is now RKC certified & will be doing a beginner kettlebell workout. Can't wait for this. Poor Lucas. Do you know why he keeps waking every 2-3 hours? Did Lily & Lucas enjoy soccer yesterday? Glad to hear you got more sleep. How was the HIIT workout & which one did you do?

Michelle: That's interesting that you work for the Marine Corps. Glad you didn't have to travel the 33 miles to your regular office. We finally got gorgeous weather. Of course it would be beautiful b/c I'm back at work. Argh! Athletic Step to this day I'm afraid to tackle it again as I torked my ankle somehow. I have no idea how I did this as I know Cathe's choreo like the back of my hand. What other exercises are you thinking of doing in conjunction w/PUT? Different types of pullups? Give Rippy a pat on the head for me. :)

Janie Sis: I did look up Zantgangle & it sure does look interesting. I'm thinking of buying the kit. Maybe for Xmas. I should have my DH do it as the poor man is completely stressed out over his job. This might be something that would ease his mind. The Bootcamp dvd in its entirety is NOT easy. Great job on getting through it.

Enjoy your weekend!
Kathy

Lily broke down at soccer again, this time she said she was scared because all the girls are bigger than her, which is very true. Parents were asking me how old she was and I stated she's 5 and in Kindergarten she's just short - it's not her fault. I really hope the game on Sunday goes OK but I'll prepare for the worst. Dave had to go back to work around the kids' bed time so I was late getting to my exercise and didn't quite have the energy for Hiit so I did another short barre workout. Tonight I have to focus on cleaning the house, it's in need.

No big plans for our weekend other than sleep and relax a little bit. I do want to get a run in one day.

I'll get a pic of the kids up, I have to see if I have a recent one of all 3 together.

Janie - Great job sweating, I love getting a good sweat on :)

Michelle - I don't always have the energy at night but if I just get my workout clothes on and do it I feel great afterwards and can usually get more stuff done around the house. Glad your walks are feeling good for Ripken.

Cindy

Today was 4Ds Lower Intensity Step modified. I loved it!
Also walked on the beach with Rolly for an hour.

Kathy sis, I remember doing (when I had tennis elbow) what you are doing now. So disappointing not being able to workout like you want to. Asking myself which exercises then can I do? I found doing my own excerises was best. Just know you need at least 3 heavy workouts during the week weather it is full body or separate body parts. And then the rest of the time cardio of some sort. The last day of the week a yoga or a thorough stretch. It made life easier in the way of exercising for me. I truly didn't do exercises involving that arm, only the ones to help it heal. Hope this helps. (hugs to you my sis). It will take time and for me I learned a lot about my injury and what to do and what not to do. Hard lesson to learn for sure. Cheering you on, just don't ever give up!

Everyone can and should have their own opinions on Cathe DVD's. Haven't done any of Les Mills or Susan Chung workouts. Sounds fantastic. Enjoy them. What a great idea for purchasing Zentangles for Christmas. Would they be for you or hubby? Or Both? I'm certain you will love it. Please take photos and post them.

Enjoy Hiit 30 min. from Turboe Fire with Chalene. I hear it's a goody. Hmmm, wonder if I have that one, sounds so familiar. LOL

Cindy, Poor Lily, I'd be scared too with all the girls bigger than me. She is very brave for playing in Sunday's game. Please keep up posted on how she does. Great job on the Barre workout.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Today was 4DS Kickbox.

Also went to the beach 3 times with the tricycle and collected sand for our animals enclosure. It was sooooooo needed.

Take care,

Janie

Renee wanted me to post this: She used to post here often.

Sorry you guys giving you bad news like this, but Renee wanted you all to know.

9-8-13

Morning!

Sorry I was MIA. Had a lovely lunch w/my girlfriend who I haven't seen in quite a while. We went to Havana Central.

My arm today feels worse than ever but I'll still continue to do the stretches. My wrist is hurting me quite a bit too.

Today I'll do 4DS chest/back but will do Kelly Coffey-Myers stepboxing workout. Her older original one which is faster & better choreo than her latest one. I'll also do Core #2.

Janie Sis: Thx so much for the encouragement. I know its not easy but I'll persevere. Your portraits/Zantgangle are GORGEOUS! I love them. Now I want to try this for myself even more. I will buy the kit for both me & my DH. When he's stressed the man likes to count coins. LOL Great job on getting back to your workouts. Thx also for telling me how you worked out w/your tennis elbow. I too should take a walk on the beach b/c the weather is just beautiful today.

Cindy: How did the game go for Lily? I'm sure she did great. Is Lucas still waking up every 2-3 hrs.? Good job on the barre workout. I'm not partial to barre workouts but am forced to do them now. Their painful aren't they? That's wonderful that you lost 5#s. Keep going. :)

Michelle: Is Ripken still enjoying his walks? What was on the rotation for this week? Gym Styles? Can't remember.

Enjoy your day!

Kathy

I must be losing it--I haven't checked in for a few days, thought I had, but I have not. Oh well, I'm here now. Finished up the first week of Cathe's September rotation--which was 4DS workouts--this next week is Pure Strength plus cardios. I like Cathe's use of older workouts in this month's rotation; it seems like we get stuck on the newer workouts sometimes. This is a nice change of pace.

Janie: thank you again for making us aware of this terrible tragedy in ReneeP's life. I posted my condolences on the thread you started in open discussion. How are you doing with this news? And how are you feeling after the first week of the September rotation? Cathe is going to get us good with the leg work--legs yesterday with 4DS kickbox and Pure Strength legs tomorrow-oh boy.

Kathy: try not to get too down-hearted about the tennis elbow. Just hang in there with your PT and before you know it you will be as good as new. Looks like we are back into summer this week. Ripken looked at me this morning when we stepped outside as if to say: what's up with the humidity? He got to see his puppy buddies this morning though so he was happy.

Cindy: I feel for Lily; I was the little scrawny kid growing up. At least she is in there giving it a go. And nowadays, it is frequently the smaller players that are the fastest or most agile. I hope she keeps with it. And I hope you are getting more sleep. How are the fires out your way? Are they getting them under control. I think of you whenever I see anything on the news about the fires out west.

~michelle

Rest day today and I took full advantage.

Michelle, It's OK for not checking in everyday. We all are bond to do it. Just glad you come back. Congrats finishing up with Cathe's Sept. rotation. Yea, me too, but started later than you. LOL I'm grateful to do the older workouts. Don't like it much when they get dusty. I'm feeling really good about myself with the rotation. Feel motivated like I like. WooHOO! I know with the leg workout, feel the same way. Legs are really hard for me, I think because I need them the most.

I feel for ReneeP and it reminds me of my sister losing her son as well. I remember when she got the phone call and will never ever forget how horrible it was seeing her panic face for the first time as she realized her son was gone. It must have been the same thing with ReneeP. My heart goes out to her and her pain. Children are suppose to outlive you not the other way around. (tears:()

Take care wonderful lady,

Janie

The start of another week: a wonderful walk with my sweet pup this morning and then Pure Strength Legs and Abs for me. Cathe seems to be book-ending the leg workouts on this rotation (by that I mean she has the leg workouts at the beginning and end of each week). My legs ought to feel like noodles by the end of the month.

Janie: I can't get over this tragic event for ReneeP. It must feel surreal for her. You are right: every parent expects his/her children to outlive him/her. I have a colleague at work who lost his oldest son 3 years ago this month in an auto accident. He said the first few months were the hardest and it was all he and his spouse could do to get up every day, but they have 3 other children and had to muster their strength to keep things going. They were fortunate to have alot of family, local community, and Marine Corps community support. I hope ReneeP has the same type of support. I know we can support her as cyber friends, but I think it is not quite the same as in-person.

Hello to Kathy and Cindy and to sister if she is lurking. Sister is geared up for the next Cathe roadtrip next year. Maybe Kathy would think about making the trip? Something to think about--it's still about 6-7 months before registration time.

Hope everyone has a great week.
~michelle

We had a great weekend all around. I'm caught up on sleep (Lucas seems to be back to normal either no waking or only once), my house is clean, little chores are done around the house, and laundry is clean AND put away! We had a lot of fun time with the kids too, s'mores in the backyard, play time outside, and fishing on Sunday. The soccer games went well, Brodie did great and Lily cried right away but then did better when he put her back in the second half. She's very timid about it and stays back but then will get right in there for a bit and then pull back again. She just needs to get comfortable with it. We did bribe her if she participated so she earned a pedicure with me yesterday. She'll get there and it was really nice hearing all the parents cheer for her when she went out AND she was having fun cheering for her team on the side line. There were some smiles.

I did not get a run in this weekend but my new indoor workout shoes arrived so I broke them in with a Bob Harper strength workout. I'm in the mood for kickboxing so I'm planning to do KickMax tonight.

Today I am starting the Advocare 24 day challenge. The first 10 days are a cleanse and I'm hoping to get my diet cleaned up with this. We'll see how it goes, I'm armed with lots of lean meat and green veggies :)

Janie - I can't imagine the pain ReneeP is going through, what a horrible nightmare she's living through. My prayers are going to her and her family. Great job on the 4DS and multiple walks to the beach.

Michelle - Great job getting those legs workouts in, they sure get those muscles wobbly :) The fires have died down, it's not smoky anymore which is really nice and we've been getting some storms that have been soaking things really well. It wasn't too bad of a year compared to some in the past. It's bound to happen with so many dead trees in the mountains killed by bark beetles - the cycle of life.

Kathy - The barre workouts are painful but it's worth it to get those legs toned. Sorry your arm is hurting. A co-worker of mine did PT with his shoulder and had some luck but has recently done dry needling (very painful to go through) and he says he has made progress quicker than PT and is able to move muscles he hasn't moved in years.
