Getting Our Licks In!

8-28-13

Hi Ladies!

Had a very good workout this morning. I did Kelly Coffey-Myers Cardio Quick Fix premix #4 which was the 2nd set of workout #1 (low impact) + all of workout #2 (high impact). You'll find that I have 7 favorite instructors. Cathe, Amy Bento, Shaun T, Kelly Coffey-Myer, Sylwia Weisberg (Tonique), Tony Horton + ZUZKA. I have many others in my collection but all others pale in comparison.

I just purchased Amy Bento's new Body Box as kickboxing is my favorite means of cardio. Do any of you dabble in kettlebells? I have a 15# kb & will sometimes do a total body workout using Art of Strength's Rainmaker dvd.

I also lurk on video fitness. Talk about diverse workouts! Those ladies have so much in their collection that you need to rain in your wallet. They'll spend your $$ so fast you won't know what hit you. LOL They're a great bunch though.

Janie: Great pictures sis!! I was wondering how you were managing to bike ride in the sand. Now I know. LOL Our weather here too changed from bleak to beautiful &hot & sunny. Thunder storms coming in this afternoon.

Doctor appointment went okay. I need physical therapy 2x a week. I'm scheduled for Fri. AM. Also have to use an anti-inflammatory gel. Hoping for the best.

Michelle: Did you take Ripken out for a walk this morning? What workout did you do? I don't think Cathe posted up the Sept. rotation yet.

I'm off to do some shopping before it rains.

Have a wonderful day!

Kathy

Took an hour walk on the beach with Anthony and Rolly. Saw a dead seal partly decomposed and it's head was like a skeleton. Sad. Calories burned about 222. Anthony will be leaving tomorrow and then the Staffords will be here Fri. night and will stay until Sun. Better make some more bubble solution. Need to get ready for my "Artist In Action" at the Gallery on Labor Day. Here is a photo of Antony enjoying his surroundings.

Michelle, Great job walking with Ripken this morning. And doing Hardstrikes with the addition of pull up training. OOOOOO, I want to do that! Would love to do an honest to goodness pull up. You are doing fanatic preparing for one. Great goal by the way. I also agree doing your training at the end of your workouts. Smart girl. I predict you will be able to pull up with in a month or two.

Kathy Sis, I like Kelly Coffey-Myers, great job on Cardio Quick Fix prem #4 and all of workut #2 (high impact). I have some DVD's of Amy Bento and Kelly. I'm going to look up the rest. I dabbled a bit in kettlebells a long time ago. I wish Cathe would do a Kettlebell workout. It would be so cool. I have a couple of Art of Strengths but don't recall Rainmaker. We have enablers here as well. I lurk too on video fitness sometimes. Also have gotten a few DVD's for a trade a couple of times. These trikes are a lot of fun, and when we take it to a more serious level, Joe and I take our regular bikes out and ride them for some distance. We also have older bikes that we ride close to the surf where the ground is level and hard. It makes for great bike riding. Glad to see you are working on physical therapy 2x a week on your arm. Most likely will take a while, but believe me, it will heal eventually. Be patient.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Morning Ladies!

Michelle: I used to do pullups using my Woodie bands which are placed over my pullup bar in the basement. Tony Horton did plenty of pullups in all different variations in P90X. Janie & I will get back to doing them too. I hope to someday do an unassisted pullup but not sure I'll ever get there. You did a great job on the pullups as well as Hardstrikes. I only did HS once. Never liked it. Too many jumping jacks for me. Have you ever tried Les Mills Combat or Susan Chung Rapid Fire 1, 2 or 3? There's also Chalene Johnson Turbo Fire. I have too many workouts. Don't I? LOL Enjoy your walk w/Ripken. I miss having a dog but my son was more partial to cats & we wound up w/2 cats. Unfortunately had to put one of them down in April. Give some hugs to Ripken from me as he's a cutie.

Janie Sis: Great picture of Anthony. He's so cute! Your a great grandma & trying to keep everybody busy is not easy. Sorry that you came across the dead seal. We had all these dolphins that washed up on shore in New Jersey. Some kind of a viral infection. Do you have to report the dead seal? You're going to an art gallery? Are any of your art work being shown?

I'll be doing Xtrain bis/tris + Core #1 premix today. Tomorrow I have the physical therapy session. Wish me luck!

Have a good day!
Kathy

My apologies for being MIA! We have been so busy I have hardly had time to think! A quick recap:

Camping was great, we lucked out and got the last open camp site and the kids had a great time climbing boulders in our camp site. We got in a hike to a gorgeous waterfall both days and did get rained on right before bed but the tent held up. The worst was the wind whipping through all night, I did not sleep well but that's been a theme all week!

Sunday night Lily got sick in the middle of the night so my work day was shortened on Monday. We then had "meet the teacher night" so it was a crazy day. Of course Brodie then got sick Monday night so Tuesday was another short day at work. Wednesday the kids started school and Lily loves Kindergarten - I knew she would and she made friends even though she said she didn't want to. Brodie started soccer practice last night and Lily will start soccer practice tonight. I'm going to be running crazy for the next two months with activities. Brodie has soccer Tues and Thurs and swim Wed. Lily has the same schedule with cheer on Tues so she'll only be able to make it to soccer once a week. Thank God my day care takes them to some of the activities and can bring Lily back on Tuesdays since I can't be in two places at once. I just keep reminding myself the activity is great for them and worth my time/stress.

I haven't gotten much in for exercise this week but food has been spot on. I also lost 2 pounds last week :) so I'm happy about that. I'm focusing on 10 pounds at a time because the 36 pounds I want to lose is a bit too overwhelming otherwise. I did get out for a short run on Tuesday night and my new shoes (Rykas) worked great. No pain in my knees at all so that made me very happy. I've now ordered a pair for my high impact workouts in the house because those can get my knee crabby too and I hope new shoes will allow me to get back into some of my favorite DVDs.

Janie - Sounds like you're having a wonderful visit and staying active. Wash away beach does not sound like the place the live, those poor people.

Kathy - Bummer on the physical therapy! Do you do Tony's P90X? I didn't mind P90X but there were times I had to turn Tony off and just listen to the cues :)

Michelle - Being able to do a pull-up unassisted is something I've always wanted to do too. My upper body strength has never been as good as my legs.

Cindy

Hi everyone. Boy, what a busy group of women. Lots going on. My morning started as they all do: Ripken first. We had a nice walkabout. It's not as humid but humid enough for my sweet boy. We had to take a little rest mid-walk, but still a good walk. If ya'll knew how bad I baby this dog, you'd just shake your heads. Of course, I can only baby a 95 pound golden retriever so much. The workout this morning was Crossfire and then my pull-up training (which hereafter will be PUT). I've got to say that I had good upper back DOMS from the little bit of PUT that I did yesterday. So same set of exercises today.

Janie: your grandson looks sweet. Nice picture--love the background seascape. Like Kathy, we have an issue here in the Chesapeake Bay with bottle-nose dolphins dying due to a virus. Nothing to be done; it just has to work its way through their ecosystem.

Kathy: I think you and I are at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of diversity in workouts. I'm pretty much a Cathe-girl--but I love hearing about other workouts. I did a little review reading for Zuzka's workouts and I'm toying with purchasing her z-cut abs dvd. Do you have that one? I hear you about the jumping jacks in HS--there are alot of them but they are okay. And you are absolutely right: Ripken is a cutie.

Cindy: welcome home--nothing like getting the kid illnesses out of the way right before school starts. But clearly not what you were planning for. But then, who plans to get sick? Which Rykas did you purchase? I'm always curious as to what athletic shoes others are wearing and what they think of them. I love Avias but just can't find them sometimes, so I also have Rykas.

Just curious, did everyone preorder Cathe's new workouts?
Hello to my lurking sister--why don't you post every once in a while?

Tonight was MM and boy did I need it. Very stormy out today, lots of wind and rain. Also did Yoga Relax. Was so nice to just stretch. I edited out a bunch of stuff, thinking I might scare our new members. LOL Everything is AOK. To put it in a nut shell, I found out for the first time I most likely had ADHA when I was young and much less of it today.

Kathy Sis: Enjoy your workout with Xtrain. Good luck on your physical therapy session. I think I would have cried if I'd seen so many dolphins washing up on shore. Life can be so hard for our animals.

Cindy, Sounds like such a fun time camping. When I was a child, my Mom and Dad took us every weekend in the Summer. Such a fun time. Did Lily and Brodie get sick from the flu? Oh the joys of kindergarten, school and sports. Sounds like they are enjoying it. Wow you are lucky your daycare take them to some of their activities. Great job on controlling your food. Good for you. Congrats for losing 2 pounds! Losing at 10 pound goals is very good. You are doing it right. Great job on a short run on Tues.

Michelle, I ordered Cathe's new workouts.:D Great job on the morning walk with our dear Ripken. I love the way you spoil your fur baby. Great job on Crossfire and then your pull up training (PUT). Congrats on the DOM's in your back. It's working.

Take care,

Janie

Janie - Sorry you've struggled for so long and didn't know why, hopefully this knowledge will empower you and help you better yourself. It's nothing to be ashamed of and you're so brave to really look at yourself to see if it was the case and acknowledge it. You have a good man to be so open and honest with you. My day care is beyond awesome. If they get enough kids involved they take them kids to swim, gymnastics, and/or cheer as long as we pay for it. It's so nice because otherwise I wouldn't have time to get them picked up and to the lessons in time.

Michelle - I got the Illusion running shoe and it fits so nice, I really like them. I just ordered the Ambition to use in the house for my DVDs and will be stalking Amazon shipping to see when I'll finally get them :) I love that you spoil Ripken and let people roll their eyes :)

Food was spot on again yesterday but still no exercise other than running around the house trying to clean, pack, and prepare for school! That's chaos alone some nights. Lily cried for the first half of her soccer practice begging to let her quit then she saw the fun game the girls were playing and did a 180 and joined in. She loved it after that and got the only goal! She's very small compared to the rest of the girls. I'm 5'3" (barely) and she has my height and is very short - I told her to use it to her advantage and get around and between the bigger girls. It does help that she's more aggressive out there too.

I'm leaving work early today so we can visit family in western Montana (hope to find some huckleberries at a farmer's market too). We're first staying with my SIL then we'll be at my BIL's so Dave and Brodie can watch the UofM football game while I take the other two out for dinner and some clothes shopping - hello a better mall than what we have here :) To wrap up our weekend we'll stop at Fairmont Hotsprings to soak and relax. I don't anticipate a really active weekend but hopefully we can at least get some walks in together.

My husband pre-ordered X10 for me for my birthday, I can't wait to get it! Did anyone else pre-order any of the new workouts?

What is everyone's plans for the extended weekend?

Hi Ladies!

Welcome back Cindy. I remember those days of taking my son Craig to all his sports activities after work. Even had Cub Scouts & swimming lessons. Your busy for sure but what an awesome daycare you have to help you out with the activities. Sounds like another great weekend you have planned. Enjoy! ^^^^5's on the 2# weight loss. My girlfriend just lost 30#s & it didn't take her long at all.

Michelle: I always order Cathe's new workouts. I don't even have to read the description. My cc is always ready. Can't wait to receive them. Great workout + doing PUT afterwards. Your a warrior as ZUZKA says. :)

Janie Sis: Sorry you had to suffer all those years but am glad its better now. My PT session wasn't fun. PT diagnosed me with tennis elbow. Had electrodes with an ice pack on the arm & then an ultrasound. Had to ice again once home & put the anti-inflammatory gel on arm. Its going to take time but hoping for the best. Isn't this what you had? It must've felt good getting in a workout today.

I'll be heading to the beach tomorrow. I'll try to workout beforehand. Sunday is DH birthday. We'll go out for brunch & drinks. :)

Enjoy the rest of your day!
Kathy

The Stafford's arrived! We played with giant bubbles and all of us and Rolly went walking on the beach for 45 min. Very foggy and just a light mist. Had a lot of fun.

Cindy, Good job on the intake of food. It can seem like a lot of work running around cleaning, packing and getting ready for school. Nice to see Lily getting over being afraid and having fun with soccer practice. And getting the only goal. She will love to do that again. Being small and aggressive does have it's advantage. She's going to do well. Were you able to get the huckleberries? What are you planning on making? Have fun with SIL and BIL. Enjoy your walks. What a sweet hubby you have for buying X10 pre-order. I did too.

Is the Fairmont Hotsprings outside. That's what I'm envisioning.

Kathy Sis, I'm going to have myself tested to make sure, but it is a possibility that it might be moderate ADHD. Oh no. Healing from tennis elbow for me, took nearly a year to heal. Set me back a whole lot of time. Very frustrating for sure. It will get better. What ever you do, don't give up, there are other exercises you can do and cardio as well. (hugs) I'm so sorry. Enjoy DH birthday.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Hi Ladies!

Well another dismal disgusting day. No beach. :-( Ran all errands today instead.

Cindy: I'm with Janie in wondering if you were able to get any huckleberries & what exactly do you do with them? Curious minds want to know. Lily will continuously improve in soccer. High 5's to Lily for making the only goal. Craig played soccer for 4 years.

Today I did Push/Pull 2 sets premix.

Michelle: Did Ripken have a good walk this morning? How did you come up w/the name Ripken? You do some heavy duty workouts everyday. I'm wondering what workout you did this morning?

Janie Sis: Enjoy the Staffords. Will TTY when you have more time.

Take care,
Kathy

So far our trip has been good. I've stayed on track with food and got in a good walk today. I'm beyond exhausted and should be in bed :) We didn't make it to the farmer's market so that was a bummer. I add huckleberries into pancakes, strawberry/rhubarb pie, or make a buckle with them. So good!

Fairmont hot springs is a resort and they have pools inside and outside. I prefer the outdoor pool because it's too hot inside.

Janie - So glad you're having so much fun with your family. What a great way to wrap up the summer.

Kathy - I always want to get more of Cathe's dvd's than I do but come any gift giving occasion I give Dave my wish list. :) Which one are you most looking forward to?

Cindy

9-1-13

Cindy: I hope you're not coming down with the illness that Lily & Brodie had. Hope the exhaustion is just from having too much fun. I can't say I ever had huckleberries. What do they taste like? Are they sweet or sour? Sorry you never made it to the farmers market. I never answered your ? re P90X. I did the strength rotation w/my girlfriend for the complete 90 days. However, my arms got too big & my DH said they were bigger than his. LOL I was definitely lean though. I'm most looking forward to X10 & both of the leg workouts. I really don't do step any longer as I used to do only step nothing else & just got sick of it. I'm hoping that Cathe's 2 new step workouts will make me enjoy step again.

Today I did Amy Bento's Hi-lo Xtreme 1-4 combos only premix. Love her choreography. She's amazing but you have to like a lot of turns. My son & I are taking DH out for brunch. Can't believe its another dismal day. Sun doesn't show its face until 3:00!!!

Janie Sis enjoy your time with the family.

Michelle: Happy walks w/Ripken today & PUT training.

TTYT,
Kathy

Hi everyone. I think I zoned out for a few days. Finished up Cathe's August rotation and will start the September rotation tomorrow. I was toying with starting STS but then sister reminded me that we will be getting Cathe's new workouts soon, so STS will have to wait a month or two or three. Ripken is enjoying a nice afternoon snooze in his afternoon sleeping spot: the front hallway. We had a nice walk this morning and he wolfed down his oatmeal breakfast. I went Christmas shopping yesterday at the outlet mall 13 miles up the road. Haven't been there in about 20 years--boy has it changed for the better. Nice, upscale stores. Bought a couple of Christmas presents and a birthday present for my aunt. Spent most of the time browing, figuring out which stores I like best. Next time I go I'll have a better idea of which stores I want to shop in. The busiest stores were the Coach factory outlet store, the Michael Kors outlet store, and the Vera Bradley store. All handbag stores--go figure. I have to admit that I do love my Coach bags but I'm not much on MK and Vera Bradley is more my mother's style. Didn't exercise yesterday; did turbobarre today which is the last of the August rotation workouts plus my PUT.

KathyH: you must be getting the not so great Labor Day weekend weather that our weatherman thought we were going to get here in the mid-Atlantic. Great job on your workout: you are definitely our diversity in workouts woman.

Cindy: you should be relaxing and resting; isn't that the whole point of going away? For goodness sake, please try to get a nap in. We don't want to see you get sick--that would be terrible.

Janie: hope you enjoy another nice day/days with your family. Sounds like you've got the visit routine down pat. I bet Rolly loves all the activity.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.
~michelle

Yesterday we played on the beach for 3 hrs. Runny, jumping, jogging, walking and investigating. Burned a lot of calories. Today we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, played with bubbles. The Saffords left right after lunch. It was a blast. Now I'm relaxing and will go to my Artist in Action tomorrow at the Gallery. Will let you know how it goes.

Kathy Sis, Good for doing errands, they are endless jobs. Great job on Push/Pull two sets premix. Really? Your arms are bigger than hubby's? I Want That! Great job on today's Bento's HI-Lo Xtreme 1-4 combos only prem. She is amazing. How was brunch. Sorry you are getting dismal days. Bummer.

Cindy, Good job on staying on track with your food. And for a walk today.

Michelle, Yep Rolly is loving all this busy stuff. LOL Congrats on finishing the August Rotation. Very proud of ya. Will be looking at the Sept. rotation and get back into it. We might have one more visitor this year. It could be his friend in High School. They try to keep in touch. Might be soon. Give Ripken a pet for me in sleeping spot. Great job on the walk. Bet you enjoyed Christmas shopping and the updates on the stores. Great job on today's Turbo Barre and your PUT.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Morning!

Cindy: I sure hope you got some rest & that you didn't come down with a virus. Just sleep deprived. Great job on eating well while on vacation. That's always a challenge for me.

Janie Sis: Glad you enjoyed all that activity on the beach. You burned some serious calories. How was the Artist event? Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Michelle: Great job on completing the August rotation & for doing Turbo Barre. That's not easy. I'll have to take a look at the Sept. rotation to see if I can do it. I love to shop. Our mall has 3 floors of stores & Macy's has those great designer bags. I'm partial to B. Makowski. I buy them on QVC. Give Ripken a hug from me. You feed him oatmeal for breakfast? Special diet?

Today I certainly was diverse in my workouts. I started w/Xtrain warmup & then went into the barre bonus section. I then went into Tracey Staehle's Sculpt Fest lower body portion which uses a Bosu. Had quite a bit of balance moves.

Brunch was very nice. Took my DH to Lola's in Long Beach. We sat outdoors. Today another awful day. This is getting to be ridiculous now.

Enjoy your day. Its back to work for me tomorrow. Not looking forward to it at all. :-(

Kathy

Back to the grind! We had a great weekend but I'm dragging - not near enough sleep even though I'd get in bed at a decent hour. Lucas was waking every 2-3 hours since we weren't at home and add that to him never really getting back on track after the camping trip I'm sleep deprived for sure! This weekend we're home so I plan to turn this around then.

The hotsprings were great and I got in some activity playing with the kids in the pool. I was Lily's horse and had to chase Brodie around, the legs were burning a little bit :) We did get a walk in and I tackled my mountain of laundry last night but I did sneak in a short ZUZKA workout, ouch!

Kathy - Huckleberries look like mini blueberries and are very sweet. It's hard to describe what they taste like but they are yummy. P90X gave me a good tone with my arms and I may add some of the workouts back in but some of the moves really aggravated my knees. Sorry the sun has been avoiding you, that's not a way to spend an extended weekend.

Michelle - Great job getting started on your Christmas shopping! Great job wrapping up the August rotation.

Janie - Glad you had a great visit with them. What is the Artist in Action?

Cindy

Hello Everyone!

Cindy: I'm glad to hear it was just sleep deprivation & not illness. Pool time w/your kids sounded like such fun. Back to the grind for sure. Which ZUZKA workout did you do? Her abs dvd is hard but effective.

Tonight I'll be doing Cathe's Cardio Fusion the step only premix. I must be getting all excited for Cathe's new dvds because usually I don't do step.

Weather is still gloomy & we're expected a thunder storm later. I'm at work so don't mind all that much.

Janie & Michelle: Waves!

Kathy

Well, I've jumped right into the September rotation. Yesterday was 4DS HIS and today was a 30 minutes of walking/running or cardio of choice: my choice was IMAX3 intervals only premix plus my PUT. I think tomorrow is 4DS bootcamp.

Cindy: glad to hear that you are "just" sleep deprived. For some folks, sleep deprived is life as normal--I hope that is not the case for you. It's nice to have you back.:p

Kathy: CardioFusion step only premix is one of my favorites. Enjoy the workout! Can't believe you still have gloomy-gus weather. We had a front go through Virginia today and it has become just delightful outside (warm, no humidity, clear blue skies). Hope you get some of this good stuff too.

Janie: you are a busy woman. Looking forward to hearing about your Artist in Action activity tomorrow. Does that mean that you will be "an artist in action" during the event?

Little Rippy loves get cyber pets and hugs. And yes, he has a semi-special diet. When he was diagnosed with cancer last year, I switched his dog food to Blue Wilderness and began mixing in people food: cooked chicken, ground beef, sardines, veggies, cooked brown rice, and oatmeal. He doesn't know why his meals have improved so much the past year and a half, but the pup is not complaining.

Michelle

The Beards did show up and I have to tell you, it was the most enjoyable. We all had such a ball. Wish they didn't live in MI. Walked the beach the two days they were here for at least an hour each day. They also were health minded and we ate all wonderful foods. The Beards will be leaving tomorrow morning. I plan on getting started on the Wed. exercises with Cathe's Sept. rotation. Artist in Action was OK. I think the time I was there only two people showed up. It's OK. That was the last day until next year.

Cindy, Artist In Action is where I bring whatever project to the Gallery (drawing, painting). I brought a doodle (zentgangle) I've started and continued it over there. I was there for only a couple of hrs. and put some work into it. I've been doing portraits with doodled hair. I'll show you a photo of it for you. Nothing like home sweet home. Enjoy the camping trip of what's left of it and also getting home.

Sounds like a wonderful time at the hot-springs with Lily and Brodie. LOL Also great job on the walk and tackling the laundry and a short ZUZKA workout. Congratulations on the DOM's

Kathy Sis, Great job on Cathe's Cardio Fusion step only premix. I'm getting exited too for the new DVD's. Stay safe with the thunder storm coming your way.

Michelle, Yes, I was the Artist In Action during the event. But while I was there (only a couple of hours) there were only two people that came in. And had no comments on what I was doing. Oh well. I can't wait to get started on the Sept. rotation. Will start the rotation on it's Wedn. and our Wedn. LOL Great job on yesterday's 4DH HIS and today's IMAX3 intervals only and the PUT. Yes, tomorrow is 4DS Bootcamp. Can't wait!

Take care everyone,

Janie
