Getting Our Licks In!

Morning Ladies!

Janie: I remember the picture you posted of you bench pressing some amazing weight. When I was lifting heavy my highest weight was 60#s & I was squat pressing 100#s. Hopefully you & I will get there again.

Michelle: You certainly deserved that walk on the beach w/Ripken after 7 days. I can't remember the last time I worked out 7 days in a row. Your a warrior!

Its been such a rainy summer season this year that I haven't been able to take walks outside during lunch or in the evening. The closest beach to where I live is in Long Beach. Another town that had gotten completely wiped out by Sandy. At least part of the boardwalk was rebuilt with materials that can withhstand hurricanes. It only cost $42M!

My workout last night was Butts & Guts Leg Blast premix. I haven't done this one in years & completely forgot about the trillon lunges that Cathe does. I thought I was seeing stars after completing 64 reps on each leg of step ups!!! I managed to get through this one. Remind me never to do this one again. LOL

I'm a huge fan of ZUZKA & was doing her Power Strength series dvds when my arm got much worse. I've just rec'd her ZCUT Abs dvd. I'm going to try out workout #2 tonight as I understand this one doesn't have cardio in it. I may start with KCM's Quick Cardio Fix low impact cardio. I'll figure it out tonight what I'm going to do. I can't wait for ZUZKA to come out with her nutritional book. She's working right now with a nutritionist.

Must get to work now. Have great workouts ladies!

TTYL,
Kathy

Last night I got in the 20 min Athletic Training and my legs are screaming at me this morning - it didn't help me get out of bed at 4:55. I swapped my planned workout for Yoga tonight, I need to stretch this out!

I think we're going to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony tonight for the new Elementary school my kids will be attending. I really want to ask the Architects/Board why they planned the layout to open immediately into the lunch room from the main door, you have to walk across the lunch room to get to the front office. To me it's a poor layout but most importantly with the school shootings that happen this seems like a huge vulnerability. I'm disappointed but not surprised since I've seen first hand the work this particular architectural company does.

Kathy - We can use some of your rain, fires are going strong around here right now and though the sun is beautiful when it's pink/red from the smoke I'd rather we not be burning up. I'll have to look up ZUZKA, I've never heard of her. Great job on the butts & guts workout!

Janie - Sounds like a great day to listen to your body and enjoy life with Rolly. I am much lower on the University totem pole than a professor :) I work for the IT department and specifically for the group that does the telephone/data wiring on campus. I do the paperwork/meetings stuff for the group. We do get cold over the winter but I truly love all 4 seasons and enjoy the sledding, snowman building winter. Eventually I'll learn to ski once my youngest is old enough to start lessons.

Michelle - I don't know how you do humidity, I'm not use to it and it kills me when we get it though it at least means we have a storm coming. Bozeman is a pretty area, we have so many great outdoor opportunities and this summer we just didn't get to enjoy them as much as we usually do. I always get a kick out of the college kids coming back and strutting around campus the first couple weeks, they're funny.

Cindy

Taking a break from work. My mind needs to thaw out before I switch to the next thing on my list. Problem is that I have so much on my list to do, I'm not sure what the next thing should be. We got some rain last night--not that we need it, but we got it. And with it, more humidity. Ripken wasn't grooving on the humidity during our walk this morning, but my sweet old guy hung in there. Of course, he plopped right in front of his fan to cool off as soon as we got back to the house. Mind you, that would be: big fan on cool tile kitchen floor in air-conditioned house. Yup--my pup is spoiled. Did Powermax this morning. My legs felt like lead but I got through it.

Cindy: I'd love to send you some rain--wouldn't it be nice if we could do that. Sometimes I think architects are more into doing something they think is architecturally fun rather than architecturally sound and practical. It does seem nutty to have the lunch area exposed but I'm guessing the school had been designed and was under construction when Sandy Hook happened last year. Still makes you wonder what the school board was thinking when they approved the design.

Kathy: I also have written down Zuzka. I have not heard of her. I tend to stick to Cathe--my sister calls me a Cathe-snob. Mind you, she does Cathe's workouts too, but she also does some others. I think you've confused me with Janie wrt walking on the beach. Wish it was me, alas not so. I think I say something on tv about Long Beach rebuilding their boardwalk to sustain a hurricane. Color me skeptical, but I don't underestimate the capacity of mother nature to wreak havoc when she puts her mind to it. Us humans can only control so much.

Janie: I did a premix of Kickmax earlier this week too. I did the one without the blasts at the end--those blasts are killers.

Hope everyone has a great rest of their day.
Michelle

Starting tomorrow and through the rest of the month we will be having family over. Tonight I fidgeted and put things away, hung up some of my art work, did this and that for getting ready for tomorrows clean day. The only thing was to take a walk on the beach with Rolly. Still very windy. Our son David and his wife Miros and our grandson Adriane and another grandson we will be taking care of named Anthony, will be here for dinner and through the weekend plus first part of next week. Wedns. The Staffords will be here, Our daughter Tina, Son In Law Sid, and another grandson Chase. They will be here at the end of Aug. It's going to be a very busy and fun time. Not sure if there is enough time for exercising in this single wide mobile home/BH. LOL

Kathy, Wow! I love that picture of me bench pressing. I can't wait to do it again! We will get there again, and we can urge each other on. Very impressive weight lifting there. Let's do it! It's rainy here as well. Guess it's the price you pay for living by the ocean sometimes. That is so sad about Long Beach. Joey and I have visited once and remember it as being so beautiful. A boardwalk costing $42 million dollars. It better hold up for the next hurricane! Do be safe, please. Great job on Butts & Gutts leg blast prem. Oh yes, I do remember those lunges of Cathe's. Whew! Good for you by the way. Not easy. Now I'll have to look up Zuzka. Do be careful starting out to exercise if you are not COMPLETELY HEALED. Just something I learned while healing my self. I got impatient and wasn't as healed as I thought.

Cindy, Great job on the 20 min Athletic Training. Ouch! That is so early for me to get up out of bed. I'm not a morning person at all. I commend you, really. You are listening to your body and switching workouts. Good for you. What yoga did you do tonight? Did you enjoy the ribbon cutting at the new Elementary School? Scary the way it is layed out. Lets hope nothing happens to yours or anyone's school. I would be tense also. IT? Sounds like you have your hands full. And much needed. One of my nephews moved to MT last year. He loves it there too.

Michelle, Glad to see you taking a break from work. Sometimes it seems so BUSY. you'll figure out the priority, you always do. Great job walking with Ripken this morning in the humidity. Love how you spoil your Ripken.:) Power max was on my list, but I simply got overwhelmed trying to get things ready for the company that are coming. Wish me luck. I feel cheated in some ways.:(

Take care ladies,

Janie

Morning Ladies!

Cindy: How did the ribbon ceremony go yesterday? I'm trying to figure out why the architects decided to place the lunch room there of all places? That's very odd. I remember doing Athletic Training & that's the workout where I torked my ankle. In bad weather it still acts up. Needless to say I never did AT again. Good job for getting through that one in 20 min. If you decide to check out ZUZKA she's on youtube. She started out with BodyRocktv where she has over a 100 ZWOW workouts. The workouts are only 12-15 min. long but make no mistake on the intensity. She's HARD! On her dvds their sold at Amazon. There's ZCUT Power Strength, ZCUT Cardio, ZCUT Yoga & ZCUT Abs. It must be so beautiful where you live. I wish I could send you some rain.

Michelle: I'm sure that break from work was much needed. Sometimes you'll have to put up w/me on my confusing posts! LOL Sorry I got you confused w/Janie. Your walking w/Ripken in the humidity not the beach. Did you take another walk today?

Janie: I should've read your post yesterday on resting my arm. I just had to try ZUZKA Abs workout #1 last night. This is 2 rounds with 4 exercises 45 seconds on/15 off doing them 2x each. The move that hurt my arm today is plank/pushup/going airborne once you come back up from the pushup position. :O also the competition burpees at the end took my breath away. Must remember not to do ZUZKA until my arm is completely healed. Your going to be quite busy with all family members visiting. That's so nice! I don't have any family left except for a very old cousin & on my husband's side of the family there all down in Florida. Don't get to visit too often. Enjoy your family time! Even if you don't get to workout I know you'll be back at it soon.

I'm on vacation next week. Its just a staycation. Have some things to do around the house.

I might be able to check in while at home next week.

Have fun workouts & TTYS,
Kathy

The ribbon cutting/open house last night was packed. I don't think they expected so many people so it wasn't as organized as they planned. I did see they have a door that goes into the main office so as long as they keep the main doors in locked (no one I asked knew so I'll ask next week) people will have to go to the front office. We did get to see both kids' classrooms and teachers. Lily is scared but I hope she'll get excited soon. Once the kids were in bed I did a Yoga for fat burning on You Tube since Dave was watching TV. I'm moving to the point where I won't let him being on the TV throw off my game. My back was killing me this morning and I think it was from carrying Lucas last night and sleeping wrong, it's feeling better now at least.

Tonight I have to pack for our camping trip on Saturday. The place we usually go to is closed because of 4 fires around that area so we're trying a new camp site. This will be our first time camping with Lucas (wish me well!). There is a hike in the area that I want to do with the family so that will be fun.

Kathy - I'll have to try out one of her Youtube workouts. I didn't realize they had so many workouts on there, have I been living under a rock? :) Vacation sounds wonderful, I hope you enjoy it and get lots done.

Janie - IT is Information Technology. Getting up so early to exercise was another mental block I had to get over, still some mornings it's a struggle that the exercise doesn't always win! Sounds like you have a busy but fun couple weeks ahead. Enjoy the family!

Michelle - Pups should be spoiled :) We got a little bit of rain last night and have more called for through the weekend, unfortunately they are also calling for lightning which doesn't help with fires.

Cindy

Family got here and sneaked away to post. Today was heavy cleaning, bathrooms, floors, laundry and dishes. Whew! It was like an all day workout! LOL:rolleyes:

Kathy, I still need to look up Zuzka, I'll wait until family leaves. Please remind me. Great job on ZUZKA abs workout #1 last night. Sounds so interesting. I can see why you hurt your arm tonight. Sounds like you can't have anything wrong with your body to be able to do them. I've often wondered what it would feel to be an orphan. Mom died a few years ago and my Dad is 89. Thinking alone and sad. My mother and dad had nine of us, and we all had children and now they are having children. It's a huge family. Tell you what, I'll be your cyberspace sister? That way you have family.:) Staycations can be very relaxing. Enjoy next week.

Cindy, Glad you went to the ribbon cutting/open house. Sounds good if they lock the main doors and have to go to the front offices. I'm sure your children will enjoy school once it starts. Great job on the yoga for fat burning. How was it doing it with You Tube? Glad your back is feeling better. Have you tried rolling it with the foam roller? Enjoy the new camp site and let us know how it goes.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Good golly, I forgot to post yesterday. Don't know how I managed to do that. You'd think after finishing bodymax, I would have remembered. Oh well--that was yesterday and today is a new day. Ripken and I had a beautiful walk this morning--the humidity is gone for a day or two and we are loving that. Did a little garden work this morning after our walk, cleaned the downstairs bathroom, and wiped up the kitchen floor. I hate a dirty kitchen floor. Ripken is sleeping on the tile floor in front of his fan and I'm contemplating my next thing: maybe IMAX2 which is today's workout.

Janie: you are going to have a very full house. I know you will manage with good humor and lots of love.

Kathy: I looked up Zuzka. Whatever utube workout I was watching, she was doing the workout in barefeet. EEK! Quite a fit young woman. Are there particular workouts of hers that you would recommend. Also, she seemed to talk alot vice workout--is that normal for her? Again, it might have been the particular utube video that I was watching. I'm intirgued enough to do more research on her workouts. And, any vacaction is good--even staycations.

Cindy: enjoy your camping trip. I guess we may not hear from you for a few days? It's nice that alot of people showed up for the ribbon cutting. To me, that indicates that you have a community of parents who support their children. Usually not a bad thing.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Hi old Cathe friends! I thought I would pop in and say hello! I am waiting for the girls while they do their auditions for the 2013 Nutcracker! I do hope they both get in! My divorce is taking for ever and is terribly ugly all around! I have good days and bad days but manage to get through them.... I am starting another STS rotation again as it seems like the only workouts that can hold my focus right now. It looks like their are some new members to the thread which is fantastic! The girls start 7th grade on Wednesday, its hard to believe!

Today we went to Westport and walked about the shops. We went to a lot of floats searching for fresh caught tuna. We found none. Ended up with ling cod. Decided to walk the boardwalks and talk to the locals catching crab and to watch the boats come in and out of the marina. Took a couple of hours or so, and it was delightful. Got home and took out the giant bubble solution I prepared the night before, and caught some amazing photos of everyone having fun with these awesome bubbles. Then we settled down to our home cooked fresh ling cod. So yummy. The Stafford's (our other daughter, grandson and son in law decided to come over in September the end of the first week. I have time to catch up and clean house for them too. LOL And start all over again. However we are going to have Anthony (another grandson) come visit on his own. His mother will drop him off on Sun. and he will stay with us until Wednesday.

Michelle, LOL You are too funny! Great job on Bodymax and yesterday's and today's walk with Ripken. Also for the garden work, and cleanmax. Did you do IMAX2?

Laura!, I missed you so much! So good to hear from you. I think of you often and wonder sometimes if you need a shoulder, and wish I could be there for you. Hugs to you my dear friend, and sending you prayers and good vibes to you. Aw another year of the Nutcracker. I'm certain they will get in. How many years now have they done it. Two? You can't go wrong with STS rotation. They are the best workouts, so hang in there, even if it seems puppet like. It will help you mentally and physically to get through the hard times. Give the girls a hug for me.

Take care every one,

Janie

Hi Ladies!

Didn't post yesterday due allergies acting up. Didn't workout as I wasn't feeling well but feeling much better today.

Cindy: I hope your enjoying your camping trip & you haven't gotten rained out. We'll tty when you get back.

Michelle: I haven't done IMAX2 in ages not to mention Bodymax. Can't say Bodymax was ever a favorite of mine. Walks are always good especially w/Ripken. I have cat named Tuxedo who's quite a character.

Janie: I would love for you to be my cyberspace sister. Your so sweet. Those photos are AWESOME! I've never come across a bubble maker quite that size before. Enjoy your time w/the family.

Workout today will be Xtrain chest/back/shoulders but only using my right arm. No resistance tubing. I know its going to feel weird only using one arm but I would hate loosing all of my muscle definition. Don't know quite what else to do about it.

Ladubose: I'm so sorry that your having to go through such an ugly divorce. Its stressful enough to get through an amicable divorce. <<<<Hugs>>>>> You must have twins if both of them are going into 7th grade. It sounds as if the girls will have no problem getting into Nutcracker if they've already been accepted 2x before. Keeping my fingers crossed that they get in again.

TTY All tomorrow!

Kathy

Another beautiful day here in Virginia. When Ripken and I were walking this morning, I just had to say a little prayer thanking God for my DH and my DP (dear pup). I'm so lucky to have my little family. Did total body trisets upper body today. Can't believe I'm into the last week of the August rotation. This week is a combination of LIS and XTRAIN workouts. This rotation has been a great mix of old and new Cathe workouts. I'm really enjoying it. Mind you, I have to take an Aleve at least one night a week to deal with sore muscles, but it's all good.

Janie: yes, I did do IMAX2 yesterday. I love the big bubble pictures with your family. You are an amazing woman. You find joy and share it with your family with the simple things in life. I just love it. One of these days, I'm coming to Washington and we are going to meet.

Laura: I am so glad that you checked in and I'm so sorry that your divorce is ugly. Unfortunately, I think that ugly divorces are more the norm than not. If STS helps you stay focused, then STS it is. Gosh, your girls are in seventh grade already. Unbelievable. When you have a chance I'd love to see an up to date picture of them--do they both still have that wonderful red hair. And you know, of course, they will be dancing in the Nutcracker. Looking forward to hearing about that. Try to stay positive and know that we are always here for you. (((((HUGS))))).

Kathy: XTRAIN as a one-arm workout--if that is what you can do, then better one arm than no arms. The resistance tube exercises on the XTRAIN workouts are a challenge. I do what I can and then rest. Not able to keep up with Cathe on those--yet. Hope the allergies are under control.

Channeling positive energy to everyone for a great week.
Michelle

Mirros, Adriane and David and Joe and I had a last fling with the beach (well, we thought). Brought out the bikes and adult trike, some of us walked and had a great time at the beach. Even took the giant bubble solution and made huge huge bubbles that kept going up so far and because of the fog that lingered, it disappeared. So cool! After we got back home we had more visitors. Anthony (grandson), His Mom(our daughter) and Dad(son in law). More bubbles for Anthony this time. He seemed to love them. Then Adriane, David and Miros went back home. We went to the beach yet again and played around with the bikes. Then of course his parents left him(Anthony) with us. So all in all I had 1 hr. at least of cardio today. Whew! LOL OK, won't be this detailed in my next post. LOL Burned up calories today!

Kathy, Hi sis. I don't have allergies, but understand they can be miserable. Glad you are feeling better today. I made the whole set up on the bubbles from the sticks and crocheted string to the solution. I have a variety of interests, as you will soon find out. LOL I think you are doing good to keep working even if it's one arm. You can catch up with the other arm later.

Michelle, Thank you for the positive energy. I swear I can feel it way over here. Great job on the walk with Ripken. So sweet of your prayer for your little family. Great job on Total Body Trisets Upper Body for today. I loved the way August Rotation was structured, and when I get a chance, would love to do it in it's entirety one day. OMG! I would love to meet you in person. We would have so much fun! (Hugs)

Take care,

Janie

Morning Ladies!

Michelle: Trisets UB is not an easy workout. Good job for getting through the August rotation. I find all of Cathe's rotations hard. Are you planning on doing the Sept. rotation? It must be beautiful in Virginia.

Cindy: Hope you enjoyed your camping trip & didn't get rained on.

Janie: Hey sis! Allergies are better but sure wish this arm was too. Today I'll be doing Tabatacize 1-3. I don't think I could ever do the entire 5 rounds.

Do you take the bikes on the beach or do you have a boardwalk? I think it would pretty difficult riding on the beach. Glad you had such an enjoyable weekend w/family. :) I did notice in he photos the sticks for your bubble contraption. I'd be interested to hear more about your many hobbies.

Enjoy your day ladies!

Kathy

Well, at least another wonderful morning for Ripken's walkabout. I needed a light jacket and opted for yoga pants this morning, but the slightly cooler temps and no humidity really make walking an absolute breeze for my senior pup. I figure we do a good mile in the mornings--less than half what we used to do but still a good wake-up walk. This morning was All Out Low Impact HIIT. I just love this workout--it goes by so fast and it is only 39 minutes! After last weeks 60+ to 70 minutes workouts (and Body Max was 90 minutes), I was loving the shorter workout this morning. Felt so good.

Kathy: you will find that I tend to do Cathe's rotations each month. It is just easier to know what the workout of the day is. Plus, Cathe seems to have a method to putting together the workouts that really makes you feel challenged. So, yes, if Cathe posts a September rotation, I will be doing it. If she does not, then I'll do a September rotation from a previous year. I'm so predictable. How was Tabatacize--another great workout. I can get through the tabatas 1-3 as well. It's amazing how much tabata helps your cardio endurance, isn't it?

Janie: sounds like you had quite a wonderful day with your family. And you really just spent time together having fun. How great is that? My family isn't good at spontaneous activity and having fun. Sister and I are good at it when it is just us, but beyond the two of us, I think the baggage of family relationships just weighs down our ability to have fun. Your family has something to be treasured.

Happy Monday to all. Ripken says: get your licks in!

Morning Ladies!

Very dark cloudy day today. Its days like this that make you just want to stay in bed & sleep. Arm is feeling slightly better. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon. I'll be doing Xtrain Legs standing only premix + Tonique On the Side portion to the Mat dvd. Do any of you ladies do Tonique workouts? Slywia is another favorite instructor of mine.

Michelle: I really like Tabatacize & All Out LI Cardio of Cathe's. Its intense w/out the high impact. Forgot to mention yesterday that I also did Core # 2 w/out the planks.

Cindy: I guess you must be recuperating from your camping trip. Are you back yet?

Janie: Enjoy your time w/your grandson.

Enjoy the day everyone!

Kathy

Okay everyone, let's S-T-R-E-T-C-H. Yes, it is my rest/stretch day. After a slightly humid walk with Ripken this morning, I did Stretch Max #1. I really need to start doing a stretch at night at least 2-3 times a week before I go to bed. I think it would really help my muscles. I know I keep saying this--I just need to do it.

Kathy--yes, I think we are going to get a little rain here on the east coast today/tomorrow. Kind of cloudy here in Northern Va too. I've never heard of Tonique--another name I need to write down and google. I've still got to do my Zuzka homework. I like the way you are getting your workouts in even though parts of you are not 100 percent. Lots of folks would just hit the pause bottom and sometimes that needs to be done, but you are proof that we can all scale it back a little and still get some time of exercise done even when not 100 percent.

Janie: hope you are continuing to enjoy the family. I know you'll be staying active. Somehow, I think you cannot sit still too long.

~michelle

My attention was everywhere except at the computer. Rainy, very windy and horrible weather outside. We played games with our 11 year old grandson until we were blue in the face. LOL If it was his idea he'd be watching cartoons all day. Today so far, is misty and I need to go to the store for food. This kids eats! He'll be coming with me. Maybe we can find other entertainment somewhere. With all the bodies in the house, there was no room for exercising yesterday. The day before yesterday Joey and I had fun on the beach. Didn't get a photo of Anthony yet, but I will.
407445713.jpg

407445711.jpg

Kathy, Sis, Great job on Tabatacize 1-3. It's really hard! You will do the entire workout one of these days. It just takes awhile. Glad to hear your allergies are better. Must be annoying. We have a couple places we go at the beach. There is a sandy beach 10 min. walk from where we live and bring special old bikes on the beach there. Then at Westport (Marina, shops...) we can bring bikes for the trail there, or walk around the Marin to see the docks/floats, boardwalks where people fish and shops. So much fun.

Michelle, Great job for the walkabout with Ripken. Sounded like a perfect walk without the humidity. Great job on AllOut Low Impact HiiT. I love this workout too for the same reasons. Oh I hear ya when after a long workout then having a short one, seems like paradise. As someone says, it's good on the body to confuse it and gives it a chance to heal. Yea, I love the relationship on my side and also Joeys side. I'm so very lucky when it comes to family. But we all do have moments. LOL

Kathy, Sis, We are kinda sorta having the same weather. Bleak anyway. Glad to hear your arm is a bit better. It's a good sign. Let us know what the doc says about it. Sylvia's DVD's are very interesting, but I all ready have all of Cathe's and many others through the years. I need to be more selective now. Some of the DVD's I don't even use any longer. Seems I always take out Cathe's the most. LOL Now you have me curious. I'm going to check it out some. LOL

Michelle, So important to S - T - R - E - T - C - H. Isn't it wonderful! Great job walking with Ripken this morning and Stretch Max 1. I think stretching that often would be heaven. Because of the weather and the amount of living space here in our little house, we've been play board games so far. I'm winning. LOL It's hard not being as active as I'd like.

Take care ladies,

Janie

After this mornings hour walking and beach combing, this afternoon, the weather turned nice and sunny and around 80 degrees. Joey, Anthony and I went bike riding right after we ate lunch to burn calories. We biked to a nearby beach about a half hour then walked the beach at Wash Away Beach (homes and trees are being washed away from the erosion) for another 30 min. and then another 30 min. going back home. Total Burned about 500 calories or a little more for the day. Now that's more like it!

Janie

Back to the workouts. Nice walk with my sweet pup this morning, followed by Hardstrikes which is one of my favorites these days. And then I added on some pull-up training exercises. I did 12 lat pulls with my band (not that I wasn't already warmed up), then 3 step-downs on the pull-up bar using a pull-up grip and the 3 step-downs using a chin-up grip and 4 assisted pullups and 4 assisted chin-ups. My new goal: to be able to do an honest to goodness pull-up. I figure if I add just a little training everyday at the end of my regular workout, I should give this a good go. Yes, I'm adding the training at the end of my regular workout, when my body is already warmed up and a bit tired. We'll see how this goes. Big thing will be to do the training everyday and add on reps/difficulty additional exercises as I improve.

Janie: love the bike riding pictures. Looks like fun. I understand that growing boys will eat everything in sight, just don't join him in that particular activity.;)

Kathy: how is the arm today?
