Daytona Trippers

I'm off to visit my dad in Daytona. Anyone need me to do surveillance or fact finding while I'm there? : ) Today was CBS via PP and SS dvd and I will sub that for XT CBS this week.

Angela, my jumps (especially tucks) are always pitiful! I like colorful shoes but current ones are black and fuchsia and daily wear is grey and pink. I have to get straight black or white for work.

Diana, I hate running out of steam! I might run or do treadmill while at my dad's. I haven't done 5 miles in a while. I used to run a lot when I was waiting on my dtr at her TKD class but she started driving herself and I don't run much anymore. You are nice to your training partner. I would have gone swimming and had coffee!

Lisa, LMK what you find w/ RT watching. I'm less of a planner, as you know. But that is why I'm friends with planners. I don't need to bring all the camping gear on a camping trip, just go w/ the friend who will do so and also knows how to tie knots and stake out my tent! : P

2.75 mile dog walk, 30 min spinning with 1st part of Ride (I like doing only 30 min at a time, less dread for me), then 40 min on Pilates arc and reformer.

Angela, oooooh, man, the arc ON the reformer was TOUGH, and we were only doing the reformer footwork and sitting in the well of the arc up straight with hands behind head. I'll slowly be seeing how the other arc (or spine corrector) classes are on PA.

Jody, Enjoy your visit with your Dad, Why do I always end up as the planner of a duo? It's the same way with my hiking buddy! That's why for my 50th I told my brother, if you want to plan a party, fine, I'm tired of planning, so I'm looking forward to the surprise.

Diana, It's gonna be a hot week, ugh! I do not like triple digits! I feel I get less steps on the weekend because I vex out too much with DH.

Hi Ladies,

I did a 15 mile bike ride this morning. Too bad it doesn't count towards my step count. My intention was to try out my new wetsuit at open water swimming this morning. My legs were too tired and I didn't want to pay $16 if I couldn't swim long enough to make it worth while.

I'm not sure why my legs are so tired. Must be all the running, trying to get my running legs back.

As far as the RT goes, all the classes, meals, meetings etc are all planned out. You will receive an agenda at check-in that has everything detailed out. There is also a list of what to bring so you don't over/under pack.

Lisa-Nice workout! I'm jealous of your reformer, although I'm not sure when I would fit it in. The temps are too hot for me this week...for sure.

Jody-enjoy visiting with your Dad. How long will you be there? I really wanted to swim, but she has the key to the swimming pool we use and she can't just let me swim and sit out, otherwise I would've swam. I'm not getting in the necessary swim practice and it's making me very nervous. I opted out of the swim class I normally take because I'm not sure I can make the classes with my new work schedule.

Angela-I too love dancy step and high impact! I hope to try out my new nutribullet today.

Angela, finally checked out Niedra shoulder openers on PA, that first exercise is exactly what they had me do in PT! I need to add it back in because I felt it also as I raised my arms, the foam roller (I have a really HARD one so I could get the muscle knots out of my shoulder blade area), anyway I felt it help the area that is prone to knots in the shoulder blade( surgery created some of these knots as that is where they said the pain would be after neck surgery and they were right!)

Diana, too many different w/o's too little time! I've always been tight and inflexible and I think that's why it's hitting me sooner than some people my same age. If I don't stretch well after a w/o I pay for it the next day. In fact, after our walk I didn't stretch well and I could tell a huge difference. It gets tiring stretching every day, I spend at least 15 min at it!

I think I did 2.5 mile walk (endomondo wasn't working...I didn't notice until more than halfway thru, hate when that happens!), Then since my muscle (left neck/shoulder) felt a little ouchie I listened to my body instead of pushing so I had to pick from w/o's that had no arm movements (bike, t-rex arms for step), so I did spinning about 25 min and then about 25 min on the Pilates arc. I hope it isn't my imagination but I sure feel like my spine is more "bendy" from using the arc. I think I'll integrate a couple of the standard exercises everyday with my stretches, heck what's 5-10 more min a day.

Diana, I put my fitbit flex around my ankle when I spin. It seems to count the steps about right that way. I'm not a super fast spinner anyway, and standing leg work I suck at (so now I just sit). Not sure how that method would work on a real bike ride.

Angela, I found a spinning website (was mentioned on the OD here). studiosweat.com. I signed up for free 7 day trial to the free classes. It looks like it could hold interest more since it's not the same old spin all the time. But at $20/mth (not sure if they have a pause option, I think all the streaming w/o's should. IMO), for that price not sure I would use it enough to pay for it. They do have an option to buy a startrak bike thru them. I'm an online shopping junkie so I would probably do that option if I didn't already have a bike (my bike was 1/2 as much as theirs, but it's probably 1/2 as nice too). The w/o stopped twice on my 1st gen iPad. I rarely have that happen on the PA website. After the 2nd time it wouldn't restart so I quit for the day. I'm sure part of it is my technology setup, but still I don't have that problem on PA. IF you check it out let me know what you think.

Today was 2.85 dog walk, then Piyo Legs (my glutes were fried with the curtsy lunges on the discs) and Piyo Hardcore on the floor, really hard, I'm pretty sure I'm going to sore in the core tomorrow. Then I tried the Speedspin class on SSOD, I was humbled, I am so not a spinner! At least Cathe gives us breaks! I wasn't into the music either, so not sure about doing any subscription with them.

Angela, hope you got some sleep! The Niedra shoulder exercise was where you lay on the foam roller and fan your arms up and down. Right after I did it, my muscle in my neck/shoulder (levator scalpular) started spamming, so I'm now avoiding though I think it was just overworked and not the exercise.

Diana, good luck on your first day at work!

Jody, did you get back from Daytona yet?

Oh and, Angela, the post you wrote about being the planner and letting go expresses exactly how I feel! However, if the outcome is important to me (ie. What hike to do, getting a hotel room so I can mark it off my list, etc) then I know I better do the planning or else it will drive me crazy. That thing about the people wanting you to remind them I have happen to me too. I never remind them, unless, of course the outcome is important to me.

Angela, so you completed STS 1 and 2? I guess about 1/2 of 2. Do you plan to come back to it?

Lisa, Cathe's Spin is easier than other spin?? No way!

Diana, how was the first day?

Daytona was good. I went to the flea market on Sun, it is huge. I got my dtr some jumbo tweezers for feeding the snake and a few doo dads. I drove by the hotel. It looks like the picture! I did a mellow version of Step Works. Cathe looks very fit and muscular in her earlier DVD's as well as now, even though in my mind, she really didn't start doing a lot of wt training workouts until Intensity and onward. She prob lifts heavier now than then.

Angela, I vote for the XT rotation and finishing sts M2 for upper body. But I haven't looked at April 2014. I also used to use MIS (and PH and BM2) a lot. Life was simpler back then, lol.
Haircut and BBB trip for a shoe rack and some skinny waste baskets this morning and also Tabata x 3 sections, Core 2, and Bi and Tri from STS M2 w1 to sub for XT BS bi and tri.
Waves to all.

Did a 3.15 mile dog walk, then SC (with lots of mods/substitutions and lower weight--1/2 WAY thru and my upper left trap did it's same old hurting thing). Added on 3 tabatas (3,4,5). I then really tried to get the left shoulder knot that was forming out as best I could on the foam roller.

Angela, The Nierdra PA was Mat work #676 (10 min). Basically just lay on the foam roller, I try to "wrap" my shoulder blades around it and roll very little from side to side, then take the hands with them on the floor and move hands up (like in the video) and concentrate on releasing any sore spots. As I layer there today, I remembered another PT stretching I used to do on it. And that is just laying on it longways, put arms up in air and bring them down w/ straight arms to above your head, stopping on any sore spots. Will see if my efforts helped me to avoid my knot forming under shoulder blade to get better (normally the massage therapist has to get them out. I had so many knots after surgery that my massage therapist said there were knots upon knots upon knots, so guess that area will be prone to them for a while (I hope not forever).

Jody, I went to BBB the other day, took my 20% off coupon and got my discount on the Keurig! Returned a couple of things and rebought one with a $5 off coupon. I feel vindicated! :). Which tabatas did you do?

2.7 mile HOT dog walk, then did PRS1 (1 riser for first 1/2 then no risers for rest so that I could enjoy the spinning around without killing myself).

Angela, It's always wonderful to see the scale go down, I'm hoping mine moves soon again! I never answered you about PIYO. I think if someone enjoys Pilates mat workouts then you may like it. I guess I'm glad I got if for variety, but so much of the body weight on my UB is very hard for me right now. Me and the foam roller had a date again this morning :).

Hi Ladies,

I'm hanging in there. I took Monday as a rest day due to starting my new job. I did BR w/o's on Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm starting my w/o between 5:15 and 5:30 am. It's tough. I think I need to start even earlier though...around 4:45 would be good. Next week I will try getting up 15 minutes earlier...then the following week I'll try for 4:45. It's a struggle getting up for sure.

The commute is awful. I've gone 3 different routes leaving home and leaving work at different times. The fastest was 1 hour, the longest....tonight...90 minutes to get home. An hour is acceptable (one way).

I get 30 days off per year. 7 of those are Holidays and the rest can be used for sick/vacation. You have to accrue the Holiday pay...I don't like that. They also close the office from Christmas to New Years and you have to use vacation for that too.

Jody-glad you had a good trip! Sounds like BBB is a favorite of all of us.

Angela-woo hoo for the scale being down! I'm still holding around the same weight.

Lisa-this commute is awful! I left at 4:30 today and didn't get home til 6pm. Yesterday I left at 5 and got home at 6. I've looked at some alternate routes to try. Can't wait til my 3 months is up and can work from home 2 days per week.

bbl

Diana, I just started a new job where my drive is an hour, too.
Angela, you go heavier than Cathe? Oh wait, on XT Legs standing I think I might, too.
Lisa, you've recommended the PRS before. Both or 2 over 1? I can't remember.
Today I did a jog/walk combo to warm up, then did some Tonique (squat section) and then did SC. I need to get my car to shop to see about Check Engine light but may have fiddle farted around too long to do so before my dtr needs it for work.
ps, a thread at VF has me looking at Groupon for yoga classes.

Today was 2.6 mile dog walk (I love it when they are good and it's relaxing--yesterday wasn't, today was). I then tried Plyo Full body strength (or something like that). These moves are all getting repetitive and I just can't do it without putting too much weight on UB, so I'm shelving it. So after 15 min of that, I put in RK. I then did my foam roller on my back/shoulder blade (like I did in PT but with bent arms vs straight), I found a knot that as I slowly moved my arms it shot the pain up my neck, I think I found the culprit area for what causes pain and what to avoid (arms out to side moves and weight on my UB and to stop letting the dog jerk my left arm and instead encourage her along more gently instead of a jerk on the leash with left arm and of course using about 40% lighter weights that what is on my w/o sheets).

Angela, were do you see the calorie burn is lower with XT legs? On the workout manager? Heck and I like that one but I need calorie burn (and to keep the extra burn from ending up in my mouth!)

Jody, I hope check engine light isn't anything serious! So you have 2 jobs now? Your RT per diem and this new job?

Diana, sorry about the commute. I know when my DS did that drive (and he hated it), he tried to be on the road by 6:15 am and out of the office by 3:15pm...I think he also took the HOV lanes since his transponder is linked to our acct and we paid it of course). My DH wondered if C470 would be better (albeit expensive). Can you leave the office by 3 by getting to the office early then do your w/o after work ? I hope you find a workable solution.

Hi ladies,

I left the office at 3:30 today and it took an hour is stop and go highway traffic even taking the toll sections. UGH... I did get up and do BR Day 10 though.

I wouldn't worry too much about the lower calories burned on weight workouts. Weight training elevates the EPOC for hours after the work out meaning you burn more calories all day long. Cardio w/o's really only burn calories at the time you are doing them. Weights and cardio are both important and play a roll in our overall health and body composition. Oh, for me anyway, the WO Manager severely overestimates my calorie burn for Cathe w/o's compared to my HR monitor.

Lisa-This commute is much worse than I anticipated. I thought I could drive 65 the whole. This business of coming to a complete stop all the time is terrible. I've looked at the light rail since there is a station 1/2 mile from my office. That will take over an hour and a half to over 2 hours each way. I looked at 470, but that is 52 miles as opposed to 32 on I-25. Evening w/o's would interfere with me and my & DH's time.

Jody-I go a lot heavier than Cathe on some w/o's, but not on others. The endurance type I usually stick with her weights. When I did GS Chest last week, I used 35#'s and 30#'s where Cathe is using 20. When I first got GS though....just using Cathe's weights were hard. I wouldn't mind the drive...if I was driving and not just sitting in backed up traffic on the highway. Hope the check engine light is something minor. Car trouble is the worst.

Angela-Great w/o! XT legs isn't one of my favorites, I prefer GS legs. I love the ball section!

Hi all, just a walk/jog for me today- I'm waiting for my car. My path took me along intracoastal and a park and a marina.

Angela, how do you like the new job so far? That commute sounds brutal. Mine is not bad, just long. My dd is helping me dl youtube and other audio books for my driving enrichment. Re training, I'm doing well when I match Cathe for wts.

Lisa, I now have two RT perdiem jobs. Speaking of dogs pulling on your leash, I met a corgi on my walk yesterday, so sweet! I should weigh in today but I'll wait til tomorrow and hope for a break even. : (

Diana, do you do all of XT legs, incl the barre? I'm not a barre girl but I know that workout is not intended to be a heavy wt thing. I wouldn't do it at all except it is in the rotation. Even though I'm subbing a lot, overall, following this XT rotation is keeping me from just doing what I like. I guess I'm subbing enough that I haven't felt compelled to abandon it.

Hi Ladies,

Quick post for me...I did HIIT DWP this morning. I wanted a short w/o so I could leave earlier.

bbl for personals.

TGIF

Only did 2.1 mile dog walk then did KCM weights full body (Kelley's fav premix) and KCM quick fix cardio wo#1.

Jody, I used to only like PRS2 (I don't do power anything anymore so no worries with the power 7's or 15's), but I'm liking PRS1 as long as I don't use risers so that I don't trip over my feet with all the turns (I do miss a few turns here and there).

Diana, hoping the Friday commute was better. It seems I-25 always grinds to a stop somewhere along the way no matter rush hour or not.

Angela, I never have succumbed to a heart rate monitor, this fitbit is enough numbers for me.

XT Legs sans Barre and BG Abs. My legs were owie from my running or Tonique and this was the third day I did something legs related. No wt loss this week.
I think I'd like to do some older upper body next week. LIC or BM maybe

Diana, are you feeling a little worse for wear this week? I'm pretty sure that if I had an 8 hour work day plus two hours of commute x 5 days a week I'd be a weekend warrior only, so awesome for you for making it work!

Angela, I hope you are enjoying your weekend and company and good luck getting workout in as well.

Lisa, I can imagine me w/ a fitbit or HR monitor. I already have logs and food logs and notebooks etc and spend too much time planning and assessing and not enough time sweating and dieting, lol.

I did night shift yesterday and didn't sleep much today, so it was good that I mustered a workout. I think I'm going to bed early- and then enjoy my Sunday.

Saturday the dog grilled me into a walk of about 2 miles, then I did a 30 min reformer jumpboard w/o, my core is feeling it today. Finally turned cooler today so dog walk wasn't forced upon me and went for 2.3 miles or so, then did 35 min of spin and 35 min of Pilates on the reformer... it seemed hard, my legs were toast after spinning but I figured I needed a good stretch.

Jody, no wt loss for me this week either :(. I think the 3 days of eating out sushi didn't help. If you keep logs, how are your body compared to weight measurements compared to a decade ago? I swear the same weight and my waist/hips are measuring bigger :(. I think I'm going to blame the estrogen I'm on, but without the estrogen I wouldn't sleep so I'll take sleep any day. Kudos to working out with not sleeping after working all night, I hope you find an answer to your sleep it's so hard with those kind of work hours (but I'm sure the per diem pay is great :). )

Diana, ah, finally some decent CO weather is on tap for the week! My best friend and I are doing a 14er the week of my birthday (probably Aug 13 or 14), we have someone we don't know tagging along (a friend of my sisters.... for some reason all my sisters friends are celebrating my birthday and I don't even know them ... probably because her and my brother are planning the "party"), anyways, thought I'd see if you were interested in going. I think we are going to do Grey's and Torrey's (so 2 14,000 mans in one day!), DH is driving us (the road is rough up to the trailhead that is above treeline), we plan to leave my house by 4AM and hope we don't get lightning... there are sooooo many stories this summer of lightning deaths and people needing rescued from 14ers.. Anyways if you can and want to go, consider this an invitation.

Angela, hope you had a nice weekend with your company.
