Daytona Trippers

Angela, there was a thread at VF about shortening up STS that I liked. When I did STS I frequently left out the last sets or somehow shortened it up. I often skip the unilateral stuff or change to bilateral simultaneous. In fact, today I did XT BS Shoulders and did both sides simultaneously. Anyway, while you might sub XT for STS, I'm a little more interested in doing STS again.

Diana, Cheers on last day at old job and enjoy your week! It sounds like the BR challenge is just what you need to feel groovy right now. Ha, I don't think I've ever seen my abs; my muffin top is an enduring feature.

Lisa, those poses were cute and I had no idea what they were called, but was pretty sure it wasn't down dog. How long will it take you to make the throw?

I'm starting week 5 of XT 90 day undulating. Today was BM2 Cardio blast and XT BS shoulders (do not look for this combo in any official rotation!). That article in OD about Hiit training was interesting. I haven't done hour long cardio in a long time.

Wow, was my core sore this morning! Not sure whether it was the PIYO core or the private Pilates session. She didn't have me do anything different in the Pilates session than I normally do except when someone is saying, breathe out, pull in and tighten your core like a corset is going on, again and again, and again. Well, maybe that did make me a little sore, but the oblique had to be from PIYO core (I am doing the side planks in modified form mostly). Today I walked the dogs 2 miles, then did KPC minus C and minus the last 2 combos (I was dog tired... haha no pun intended).

Jody, I wouldn't have known those poses either if they hadn't named them, funny seeing a dog doing yoga, but haha, about needing a downward dog pose. I have a huge dread factor with hour long cardio. I read the article from Men's fitness thread that was posted, is that what you are referring to? It did say don't give up the steady state.

Diana, I need to get rid of the spare tire to see any abs :p I know during the Pilates session, she had me rolling up and pulling my knees to my shoulders for a lower back stretch, I told her I had to situate my stomach between my knees to make it happen. Said cat/cow good for lower back, but it doesn't so enough for me, so the other thing was to put my feet against a wall and roll reaching my knees to my shoulders, if I add a foam roller under my feet I get a pretty decent stretch where I'm not struggling to pull my knees down. I'm going to add it to my list (that grows longer) of stretches I have to do everyday (if I miss a day, my body knows, phooey on turning 50!)

Angela, I bet you took a rest day. I wanted one today but i'm really pushing hard to lose 1.5 lbs a week to make one of my first weight loss goals before my big birthday bash that my brother has planned. I decided to get the Pilates arc from Costco, it did feel good to stretch my back backwards on it yesterday, and it comes with 2 months of PA.

Walk of 2.5 miles, 35 mins of spinning to combo of cycle max and pedal power, BR day3, 45 min Pilates with emphasis on legs (meh).

Angela, I haven't been able to do any Cathe abs, and now that I found Pilates way with core, I don't think I'll be going back.

Diana, The Pilates session was at Paul Derda $35 for a semi -private (2 people). I think the lower back stretching might be working! I can scoop my stomach better (or so I think) when doing elephant on the reformer. The session was beneficial for me to have someone checking my form. I've never done a personal trainer, but I can now see how they would help you past a plateau.

Hi Ladies,

This morning I ran 4.7 miles and then did Burn Sets Bi's, Tri's, and my ab machine with 20#'s.

I need to get my tri training schedule out and start following that program. After the tri in August then it will be running mainly for the October HM.

I've made a list of things to do each day so I don't just waste the week away. Today is master bedroom and both upstairs bathrooms! Cleaning out my closet and then cleaning both bathrooms.

Jody-BM2 Cardio Blast is one of my favorites! I just said my abs have never looked better....I still have the fluff puff (as my trainer at the rec calls it) but at least they lay flatter than they used to. I simply carry too much bodyfat to see much definition anywhere really. Tri training certainly doesn't help that either.

Angela-You could add a HIIT w/o on after your shorter weight sessions. That's what I do anyway. Definitely lighten up if needed. My biceps are my weakest link for sure. The only time I've ever seen bicep definition is when doing STS.

Lisa-Well I finally got in my 10K steps. Not working really helps! Cathe's spin w/o's are hard for me. I have them on my Ipod and sometimes do them at the Rec Ctr. Mostly I prefer to ride outside. Of course I probably don't push myself like Cathe does. When I was doing PT for my knee, it was literally taking all of my w/o time. I did use the foam roller today as I have IT band issues especially when running...boy did it hurt.

Good for you having a plan and getting stuff done, Diana! I saw an IMAX 3 thread/debate and now I want to do that workout. Maybe next week since I already subbed BM2. Tri training no help b/c of the water aspect??

Lisa, you are really making the most of your equipment, I'm glad you've found something so effective, plus you are getting a lot of workouts in. We can keep each other accountable or encouraged with our wt losses I hope.

Diana, I think that STS is harder than XT. I subbed M2W1 Ch and Ba today for XTBS.

I've been to my mom's twice in the past few weeks w/o a binge. Yesterday I had 2 slices of pizza while there but I also packed a salad and ate that and didn't have any of the candy or desserts that are there in abundance.

I'm back early today. XT CLB done. I held back on the cardio in order to do justice on the wts. I liked it. Also, I subbed curtsy lunges for one of the wt sections. Cathe doesn't do those in any of her workouts that I can think of. I wonder if they are unsafe for knee? I also did Core1.
Angela, if I worked 5 days a week I'd have a LOT more rest days. Hats off to those of you who consistently get your workouts in on work days.
Diana, I made black bean brownies the other day that were pretty darn good and tamed my chocolate beasty.
Hi Lisa!
Waves to all.
PS, I did my pre order yesterday and picked up Flextrain. Between Mary's sale, Roadtrip and that preorder, I think I've gone way over fitness budget.

Just popping in to say Diana and I met up and walked 3.5 miles. Can't wait now to meet Angela and Jody in person.

Hi Ladies,

I had a great time meeting up with Lisa yesterday! I got my 10K steps in again. Hope we can do it again soon. Unfortunately I ended up with a blister so running today is out. I'll do the next BR w/o and perhaps some weights.

Jody-I've been meaning to ask, are you a vegetarian? Just wondering from your screen name. What kind of work do you do if you don't mind me asking? I've worked out in the morning before work for 15 years or so. Before that it was after work. I don't schedule any rest days, I just take them when they fall. If I have an early meeting etc. Not sure how my commute will play into that though. I think I've only seen curtsy lunges in her newer stuff....lean legs, flextrain, hhhmmmm, I can't remember for sure which w/o. Nice job with CLB. I sub weighted hip lifts for the step ups!:) Training for 3 cardio events doesn't leave much time for weight training, hence the lack of strength and definition.

Angela-Nice job with Drill Max. I don't reach for that one very often but there is a premix with DrillMax/BM2 that I really like. I like high impact hard core cardio ala Imax 3, Intensity, BM2, MIC etc. A girl at work gave me a Pro Form Ab Glider. I try to use it a couple times per week, but the BR w/o's have a lot of weighted ab work in them so some weeks I don't use it at all.

Lisa-It was awesome meeting up with you yesterday. We'll definitely have to do it again! I haven't figured out tapatalk on my tablet. I can see the forums, but not the ones I'm looking for. I'm not doing very well tackling my list. Today is another day.

Hi fellow roadies~ :). Yesterday I had a nice walk with Diana then did a 60 min Pilates reformer session. Today a 3 mile dog walk and Step blast, 1st 1/2 on one riser, 2nd 1/2 on no risers, all with t-rex arms. I wish they made a 1/2 riser, 1 is too much and none is too little!

Diana, sorry to hear about your blister, I had one not to long ago, I have a difficult time with shoes having narrow enough heels otherwise I get heel slippage. I'm heading to Boulder running company tomorrow to get some shoes, that's where I got my last pair that are awesome for running/walking. Have you ever been there? I can't recommend it highly enough, they will video tape you running an recommend the appropriate shoe based on your stride. And the shoe they put me in was $80ish or so, so they don't just put you in the most expensive one. I just noticed on my surface now that 'browse' isn't there, but there is another icon that I click to get the forum like you normally see it. Just keep clicking around, it isn't obvious (I had wondered until you asked me).

Angela, I almost did DM today since you did it (I remembered it's been awhile, but didn't want any arm work, so I may do it soon). It's never been a favorite but I do it once in awhile. Imax 3 I never do, but maybe I should give that a whirl too. Good to have choices!

Jody, I think for CLB you either have to hold back on cardio to get heavier or go lighter to be able to do more cardio. I find the same with the plyo workouts. I'm waaaay over my fitness budget too (I pre-ordered on Sunday). Too many good things! I feel like an imposter sometimes given how "modified" I do things. The blasts in Step Blast weren't very "blasty".

Diana, on my surface, I see a cloud icon with Forums label on the left that takes me to the forums like you normally would. HTH. It's right above the 'Discussions" label)

Lisa and Diana, that is awesome you guys got to meet already, thanks for the pic! Lisa, after watching that pilates reformer on QVC, I can see how you would spend an hour doing a work out there, it looks fun, too. IMO-Don't worry about being an impostor, just make sure you do no harm.

Diana, I'm not vegetarian, but I believe vegan is the healthiest way to eat and I was most healthy and lean when I was eating that way. I am a single mom w/ two young adult dtrs at home and a respiratory therapist returning to the field after a long stint as a stay at home homeschool mom.
Thanks for clarification on curtsy lunges- I don't have those workouts yet and also on the training for 3 cardio thing. I get it, now.

Angela, if you did drill max all the way through, that is a long workout, good job! I used to do that one in some form or other about once a week. I'd feel pretty accomplished when I finished it no matter what.

I should have done tabatacise or XT Bi and Tri today but did neither. Instead I did IMAX 3 through the 7th or so cycle and called it a day. I did go snorkel w/ older dd today and it was pretty darn nice.

Hi Ladies,

The temp is nice and cool this morning, perfect for a run. I may cover my blister and try my new shoes and see how it feels. If it's not going to work then I can do the next BR w/o and GS C&T.

Today I need to finish up cleaning out the filing cabinet/shredding, and cleaning the kitchen. I bought a new Nutribullet Pro to take the place of my Ninja Blender. I love my Ninja but it takes up so much room on my counter and it doesn't always blend my smoothies (esp with kale) smooth. I'll try it anyway and see what I think.

I'm also going to drive down to my new job site. It looks like my orientation on Monday is about 1/4 mile from my work office. I'm a planner and want to know exactly where I'm going on Monday. It is 64 miles round trip.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this or not, but I have a roommate for the RT. We roomed together at the San Diego RT. So happy she's coming. I'll probably call and reserve our room today or tomorrow.

Jody-good job with Imax 3! That's a fun one for me cuz the time just flies by. I was doing crossfit at work and they recommend the paleo diet. I notice we are eating less meat now that the kids are grown. It's mostly just my DH and I for dinner and we will just have soup, sandwich or a salad. So much easier not having to plan ahead for dinner. It must be tough being a single mom and getting back into the workforce. My sons are 26, 24 & 18.

Lisa-I get my running shoes from Road Runner Sports in Westminster. They also record you running on a treadmill. The shoes that gave me the blister were the ones I wore in the HM last year. I think it's from having pedi's and my feet not being used to wearing tennis shoes and running too. They need to build up some toughness.:) I can see the forums, just not the the ones I check in on. Don't worry about modifying, I do it all the time.

Angela-What are you up to today?

Angela, I am still feeling the STS sub for XT BS that I did this week. I think I will keep subbing STS M2 for burn sets the rest of the rotation. I haven't done IMAX 3 as often as 2 and yesterday's run through was pretty low energy, but I do like that workout. Have fun if you do a Hiit today.

Diana, good luck w/ your work run through. It does feel better to be prepared but I'd probably just do a google map search the night before and wish I'd planned more. I use a Blendtec but wonder if the Vitamix would have been better. The researcher in me wishes I had all of them to compare and contrast with the specific foods I make. Yea! for room mate.

Lisa, I feel like an impostor as well. Today I did Tabatacise and it was just outta my league to do the full workout with the "recovery" blasts. I got a great workout in by skipping sections and modifying, though.

I did Tabatacise with 3 sections, XT bi and Tri and Core 2- tomorrow should be Supercuts and then that will the end of week 5 of the rotation. Food has been pretty good, but I haven't been tracking as much and I'm shy on actual servings of veggies. RE IMAX 3, wow the crew has some beautiful abs.

Today was a 2.85 mile walk, PIYO buns, and LLA premix that was minus core and plus barre. Went and got my hair cut and got some new running shoes for my walks (a bright orange... they only had bright yellow and orange in my popular size 7).

Jody, I've been reading a thread (I think on the OD) about someone being down because they are older, etc, it turned into people of our age modifying or changing to yoga to save their body. Made me feel better about where I am. Today I let her wash my hair in the bowl and man, it was hard keeping my neck extended down into the bowl (of course I was nervous). I was just thinking of adding a tabata from tabatacize onto a w/o when I needed a bit more cardio, to do it all at once is not happening! And the "recovery" blasts should be named something else (I'm sure you can come up with a good name :). )

Diana, I'd do a work run thru too. How did it go? On tapatalk there is one of the options up at the top where you can view unread or participated (that's how I find the threads I check in on). I have a vitamix that I got for $32!! I was at BBB a couple years ago and they didn't have the bath mat I wanted so they ordered it for me, they sent a vitamix instead! What a bargain. I then had to head to another BBB to get the bath mat, so worth the extra trip :).

Angela, You always have the right to change your mind! I do it often. We've had cooler (yet humid) weather, supposed to turn back to 90's again. Even in this morning in the cool weather (60) I still work up a sweat with my walk. I sweat way too easy, seems to be worse the older I"ve gotten. What kind of work do you do? We know that DIana is in IT, Jody Respiratory therapist, and me an ex-IT person (programmer).

Hi Ladies,

Me again....gets kind of boring not working. I should be much more productive than I have been. I made more phone calls today, guessing we may need to meet with a tax or financial advisor with all this benefits...roll over..take pension etc. It's exhausting just thinking about it.

I did run this morning, 5.3 miles! It was lovely out today. Then I did GS C&T. The heat is picking back up for the weekend...high 90's!

My new manager emailed me and I'm to meet her in the lobby of the building I interviewed in. She will get me settled at my desk and walk me to the other building for orientation. They really have their stuff together their. Then I'm free for lunch and will meet up with her again at 1pm.

I made the hotel reservations for the RT. Ocean View, no ocean front rooms available. I'm okay with that. The price is awesome, especially when splitting it!

Jody-tabatacise is awesome! I always feel so accomplished when I do that w/o.

Lisa-great score on vitamix. They are out of my budget right now, perhaps someday. I did get my nutribullet pro at BBB for a lot less than I could get it at Kohl's. I'd been watching for them to go on sale. BBB gave me a better deal than the Kohl's sales price.

Angela-it sounds like you are an evening exerciser. Have you always been? I used to when my kids were really little. Once they started school and sports, that only left mornings for me to exercise. It will certainly be an adjustment for me if I have to switch to evening w/o's.

back to filing and shredding....I promise....

Did a 2.6 mile walk, then PIYO Strength Intervals (I don't think I really like this one), then did the 40 min w/o that came with the Pilates arc. So kinda an easier day.

Diana, I can waste a lot of time puttering around the house and not getting anything done! I get my steps in as I wander about sometimes by trying to look for something (more than likely my phone) or knowing I came into a certain room but can't remember why! I read somewhere that's because you thought of whatever in the room where you were at and when you leave the room, your brain closes the door. So go back to the original room and see if it comes back... sometimes that works.

Angela, good luck on deciding on whether to get a spin bike. I have a low cost one and I'm glad I didn't spend much on it since I don't use it that much. It's all in what you like the most. I'm not "thrilled" with the shoe colors, but the color also won't deter me from buying what works. The Pilates arc is feeling very nice on my back, I'll have to get onto PA soon and check out the workouts for it on there because I don't see myself doing the one that came with it ever again.

Hey everyone,
My fave time to workout it midmorning, not practical! Angela, awesome job on CLB! Such progress is exciting. I just have time for a driveby posting today, but I enjoy hearing and chatting w/ you ladies. I did KCM Plateau Buster 1 and 2 plus the bonuses to replace SC. I had SC in but didn't think I had the oomph for it and in the end I did a longer Kelly than I anticipated anyway. Week 5 of rotation done. I might sub SS or PP for XT Legs, C, B and Sh next week. I'm traveling to Daytona to see my dad this weekend. Off to work...

Jody and all, I was thinking that I need to watch the RT footage next week (I think that is when it is) so I know what to expect. I know one of the first RT's I watched but that's been awhile ago. Hope I don't need Cathe live to see the w/o's in entirety. I know they said on the forums that one of the classes will be recorded for Cathe live (only one because of music licensing). I'm almost ready to break down and get Cathe live but I need to stop spending money!

Hi Ladies,

I managed a 3 mile run this morning. I didn't drink any water...and it was hot....so my intended 5 mile run ended up only being 3...and I was pushing to get to 3. UGH After 3 miles I walked about 1/4 mile back to my house. Then I did GS BSB.

I cleaned and put together my new nutribullet...and it came with a ton of different size containers and a huge recipe book!

I'm supposed to meet up with my training partner later today. She's injured and just won't stop. She wanted to swim this morning but when I asked if her Dr. had cleared her for swimming she said no. Although I wanted to swim, I don't want her swimming. I opted to meet up with her for coffee and to visit.

Angela-I don't have a spin bike, sometimes I wish I did though. I'm just not sure how much use it would get. I do use Cathe's spin w/o's at the rec ctr on their spin bikes occasionally.

Jody-My favorite time to workout is mid morning too...after my 2 cups of coffee and computer time!:p Yay for completing Week 5!!!

Lisa-I guess I don't wander around enough...I spend too much time on the computer. I should reach 10K today though...I have to go to walmart and return something. I will walk 1 loop around the store while I'm there....anything to pump up the step count.

gotta run...bbl

Diana, the one thing that broke me of the computer habit was my neck problems. Not sure I'd recommend that as a way to break the computer habit though!
