Daytona Trippers

Wow, quiet around here, hope all are getting in the workouts! Diana, less than a week for your tri..... EEK!

Today was a 3 mile dog walk and then XT legs (all sections) and BS shoulders. I'm doing quite well on the BS! I matched Cathe weights except for OH press (OH stuff is hard on the neck). I really am thinking that it's too much body weight on my arms for too long that makes the ouchie come out. Hoping once I get most of the ouchie gone that I can sleep on my left side again ... will see what massage therapist says tomorrow now that I think I've isolated some of the moves that causes pain to form.

Hi Ladies,

I was up this morning at 5am and did BR day 18, a 50 minute tough circuit!

Jody-I was at my lowest adult weight when I was following a vegetarian diet and running every day. Of course I had no muscle to speak back then either. I love starting my day with cardio, it gets the blood moving and kickstarts the metabolism. Being Hypothyroid, I need all the help I can get. I've had really good luck with the BR 30 day challenge circuit. I think it's because you keep your HR up with the cardio and the lifting is mostly compound which also keeps your HR up. Good luck on coming up with a rotation to follow.

Lisa-My bike will be ready on Tuesday night! So glad this issue happened when it did and not next weekend. Nice workout lady! So you want to do a pre-hike before your bday hike, you silly girl.:D I think you'll be sore for your bday bike. Sounds like you know what exercises to do and which ones to avoid. I sometimes try to lift heavier and eek out a few reps and then drop down, it's the only way I get stronger.

Angela-waving high...bbl to see what you are up to.

Happy Monday!

Quick post to Angela to say THANK YOU for validating the side sleeping issue and chest work! Sometimes I feel really SLOW figuring it all out! It's been such a challenging road and sometimes I wonder if something is in my head! Of course when the pain started I KNEW it wasn't in my head (family dr discounted my pain, grrrr) and thankfully the neurosurgeon saw upon physical examination that shoulder and triceps were impacted, however we had to go the MRI route to prove/disprove and that never tells the whole story as the c4/c5 level (the nerves to shoulder) was fine, but the x-rays showed SLIGHT slippage (where the vertebra was slipping on the one below), then on from there with facet injections to prove/disprove based on my perceived response. I know after the first 2 injections I had a LOT of relief in the neck, but the left arm and shoulder still hurt, at this point I had to see that PA (not the real dr), the PA seemed like I was making up the shoulder as he didn't think the neck could cause shoulder pain, thankfully the PA readily went and got the dr (if he didn't we were going to insist), dr came in and said 'yes shoulder pain can happen from nerve impingement in the neck', so I went for another injection at c4/c5 and it gave me relief but not as much as the prev injection. So after all those diagnostics were done based on pain charts I kept we did the fusion of the 3 levels(huge decision I tell you, but I was so miserable I would have done anything). After surgery, my rear delt immediately started twitching and the next morning the muscle from shoulder to elbow on top of arm (where I would get shooting pain sometimes) started twitching as well. Dr said the nerves were waking up! Then it took PT to get the delts rehab'd. It's been such a long journey (this started right after Xtrain came out). And I can't tell you how much it means to me to find someone with a shoulder injury (even if it was from something other than the cervical nerve) to validate some of the residual effects. Sorry to be so long winded, I'm just eternally grateful to you, now I have more info for the massage therapist!

Hi all, I've had a couple of days off. I did DM on the 2nd. Work on the third and yesterday I had stuff out but never did a work out for various excuses/reasons. I should've done bg. So today I should leave at 7 and I'm awake, maybe I'll walk jog before shower.
I ve stayed caught up on reading thread but it is harder to post from app, isn't it? Have to rely on memory.
Diana, I was doing a lot of the 4pack Lic, dm, bm2, bg and running too. I felt like I had nice definition, I was doing MIS, PH, BM1+2. Overall my fitness level is way lower now.
Angela I'm not sure what I'll be doing but I've pulled out a rotation from Nov 2006 that features the 2006 4pack. A trip with hubby sounds nice!
Lisa, more validation! Im glad you are finding your way.
This phone post took forever, I better go, maybe I'll get something done.
Take back...in the spirit of embracing long non metabolic work outs, I had rhythmic step out and walked thru that third section trying to learn it. I figure I should master it and 4ds steps before I spend more money on prs1,2.

Today was 2.75 mile walk, then I just couldn't get into doing CCC so I CSS + step instead, skipping any pushups/mountain climbers/burpees/you get the picture. Then added on BS Bi's, had to go a little lighter than I thought I would, but that's ok (I only used 10's, 8's, and 12's for concentration curls), was worried I pushed it a little too far, but so far feeling ok after rolling on the foam roller. I have my massage later this afternoon.

Angela, my friend told me about this massage therapist, she goes to her for migraines, she has much fewer, she's the first that understood the knots in my shoulder blades. Thankfully, with lower hormone levels I don't' get many migraines. I think my legs were too sore too for CCC. I'm really feeling stronger with the endurance, I'm ready to climb a mountain! :)

Jody, it is hard remembering what to say when it isn't in front of you. I sometimes have internet explorer open for what people said and use the tapatalk app to post. Whoops, see, just forgot what else I had to say to you... ok, just looked, yea, my fitness is lower but I really feel I'm making progress with the endurance, and I'm not sure I ever want to go with heavy weights because of the bulk. Sometimes I'm just confused why so many say heavy is the only way to go... maybe those are ones that are hard to build muscle? You know, we are miles ahead of most of the population just by being active!

Diana, You deserve high fives and kudos for staying with a workout program with your commute. Angela does have a good idea to split up the workouts (I know night time is hubby time). When I worked I would do cardio in the morning, then come home and do lifting.

Took at 2.4 mile dog walk, then did MMA KB. Massage therapist confirmed that body weight on my hands can and most likely is triggering the pain in the levator scapular (muscle that attaches the shoulder blade to the neck). I had lots of knots she got out, I felt, ahhhh relief, but later that night it was hurting (pissed off muscle), so didn't sleep well. The attachment to the shoulder blade is getting overloaded because some of the attachments in the neck are fused now and are atrophying. She said it may get better as 'I'm still healing' (forgot to ask when the healing technically is over, my guess is 2 yrs?). She's glad I'm finding what is triggering it and it is different for every person that has this surgery (my guess is because everyone has different muscles affected from the nerve impingement of the months and in my case years). So NO MORE exercises that use my body weight on my arms, no push UPS, no mountain climbers, no burpees, no planks (or minimal, like what I do in Pilates). So now how will I modify at the road trip? At home I'll just fast forward through those dreaded exercises ( and happy to do so and glad I have a reason :)

Oh and I asked her about doing chest work as I was worried that the pulling in of the chest muscles would piss off my muscle as well, and she said, women are naturally weaker in the back and have rounded shoulders so she would do 3 back workouts to every chest workout.

Angela, my legs are tired as well, I started with LICh but my leg just wouldn't lift my foot up to the step in a timely fashion! :)

Lisa come up with some special signature move you insert whenever those things come up!
I'll prob be mia thru Sun. No work outs and bad food, not much to report.

Hi Ladies,

I intended on working out this morning and taking Friday off. I stayed up too late again watching the Country Music Festival last night. No workout for me this morning.

I picked up my bike last night!:):D I want to get a short ride in to see how it feels with the new tires/tubes and tune up! Hopefully it is super fast.;)

My left shoulder/neck area has been really sore since swimming last week. I may need to have a few chair massages after my tri to get that area loosened back up. It probably doesn't help that I carry my purse and laptop on that side.

I hope to make to make it to the WW meeting tonight. My weight is holding steady though. I'm wondering if I should cancel my WW membership since I'm tracking on MFP for the weight loss challenge. I do not have time to track in multiple systems.

Lisa-Most folks do not do enough back work, that is definitely a true statement. I think child's pose would be good for any of the plank/chest work. It's okay to just skip an exercise. I have a shoulder injury too that is mainly bothered by chest work and tricep dips. I can do lying tricep extensions or OH extensions but definitely not dips. Someday I hope to get in as many steps as you! I work on the 3rd floor and have been taking the stairs every day. Does your massage therapist do chair massages? I'm super ticklish so a chair massage where they stay focused on the upper back/shoulder/neck area is all I can handle. I love lifting heavy, the only bulk on me is fat...ugh.

Angela-glad to hear the step topper suggestion worked for you. There is simply no way I could get up without using the topper.:p The food program is going well so far. I basically have to stay between 1400-1500 calories and 112 grams of protein. It's only been 3 days and so far it is going fine. My weight is holding steady right now. I've been closer to 1500 cals each day and 1 day even went over a bit.

Jody-enjoy your trip!

Went for a long walk with the dogs this morning (loved the cloud cover), went 3.9 miles! Then came back and did Cathe Live - All about legs (thankfully server was back up when I was ready to do it!). I enjoyed the workout and looking forward to doing the other live classes. It's nice seeing real people.

Angela, yea, she mentioned wall push ups but I really am not all that sad not to do pushups. I just don't want to be standing up when everyone is on the ground on the RT. Seeing the Cathe live classes makes me feel less "intimidated". Rest day, what's that? LOL. I'm going to taper off the intensity as I get closer to the mountain hike (can't have sore legs for that) and I hope to keep my muscle in my neck/shoulder from getting knots since I now know what to skip and I'm going to be careful on any UB work.

Diana, that muscle you are having problems with after swimming is the same as mine (levator scapular), on my research I did see that swimming can make that get tight (no way could I swim right now). I do a stretch for it that my massage lady said was good. Stand straight, shoulders down, turn your head to somewhere between 10 and 11 o'clock, now drop your head down to about 2 o'clock, fine tune it to feel the stretch. The key is turning your head (for me). HTH. And yes, your purse/laptop is a contributing factor for sure. I sent you text about my massage therapist. I can't do tri dips either and will sub lying tri extensions, but what will we do at the RT? The dogs are the key for me getting steps in, they pester me until I walk them.

Jody, Hope you being MIA means you are having a fun time somewhere.

Hi Ladies,

OMG...I accidentally got in my 10K steps yesterday. I decided to walk at lunch to learn my way around my new work place. It started out as a leisurely stroll, then the clouds started rolling, then the lightning, getting darker and darker....remember..I don't know my way around...eventually I had to put a wiggle on it and barely made it back to my office as the rain started. My walk ended up being 3.75 miles.

I made it to my weigh in and am down 1.8#'s from last week. Basically back to where I was before I gained.

This morning I did a 40 minute BR w/o. It was a nice and short.

I'm supposed to swim tomorrow but may opt out of it. My shoulder/neck is tight and if swimming is just going to make it worse, I'd rather opt out and just swim during the tri on Sunday.

Lisa-Thanks so much for the text yesterday. I think I will take you up on that as I know I'm going to need the massage after the tri. Don't worry about the RT. You only do what you can do.

Angela-X77 is awesome! I've only done it 4 times I think, and my shoulders were about to fall off by the end of it! Woo Hoo on the weight loss!!! I know all too well how difficult losing weight is.

Jody-hope you are having a great time.

TGIF!!!!

Today was 2.75 mile dog walk, then did Cathe Live Step class from the RT. Oh my, it was hard! Not dance-y choreography really all drills, I had sweat on my step--- more than usual (usually just a few drops, this time it threatened to slip me up). Looks like my GF and I are hiking the day before my birthday (2.6 miles, 900 elevation and probably at an elevation of 12,000), then the day of my birthday we will do the 14er (5.25 miles, 2100 ft in elevation and obviously at 14,000 Ft!).

Angela, I've only done X10 premix where there are basically 2 sections...I forget what number it was! X77 sounds hard, can't believe Diana has done it 4x! Is there a premix that has all the sections but no (or very few weights?) that would be a good one if it was there. If you are active on Cathe Live, have you tried the step RT one? Either my body is tired (very likely, I've been pushing it an soon I will take a couple easy days to ease back before my hikes), or it was hard! Maybe it was a little of both:p The All About Legs was good.... until, it went on and on and on, but by the end I felt accomplished..... the stability ball floor work had flashbacks to GS Legs (not my fav). It basically was just a few exercises with dumbbells (she used 10's), dixie cup stuff, and it seemed like lots of discs (I like discs), then barre work, stability ball, and I think even more floor work (can't remember.... again). I liked it, just be prepared for the length of time.

Diana, I guess your work walk took you outside...I used to walk the buildings at my work complex.... all the buildings were interconnected... they even had a mile loop route documented ;) I'm sure RT will be fine, I'm wearing my neck scar (you probably didn't even notice it did you?) like a badge of honor and this is just who I am now. It's taken me a long time to get to acceptance ! I'll send you email with info on the massage therapist. I knew her father at work and she is very down to earth and laid back. She might get a kick out it if it is the same muscle we are having issues with! DH went her once, he was having issues with his QL muscle in his lower back (I had issue there too after surgery), it turns out the stretches I did per therapist was same ones that helped him. We think mine was from surgery, but his is from his occupation and too many airplane seats.

Great job girls on the wt loss, I think I finally lost another and am to the goal I set for my birthday.... now lets see if I can hit the goal I have for the RT. (7-9 pounds).

Hi, I was scheduled to work all week but that changed somewhat so- I did BM2, no abs or upper. I also went to a movie w/ dd which was good, Guardians of the Galaxy.
Diana, congrats on regaining your ground/losing. Your tri on Sun? Are you ready to go?
Angela, congrats on your pound and have fun w/ your friends this eve. Good job on X10 I think. It sounds like a toughy.
Lisa, I think the road trip is going to be hard!
Take care all

Did a 3.4 mile dog walk and then came home and did 60 minutes of spinning. I signed up for StudioSweat and I enjoyed spinning and I think I"m getting better at it too! I did feel it in my shoulder muscle so didn't lean down as much on the handlebars, it feels ok now.

Angela, you need to try studiosweat! I think I may be starting to like spinning...I got such an endorphin rush today (like I used to get when I ran). I like Bethany, Rebecca, and of course Cat.

Diana, eek, tomorrow is the day!!!! Good luck!

Hi ladies,

I rode 12 or 13 miles this morning. My bike feels really good, the shifting is smooth and brakes are nice and tight! I also went and picked up my race packet for tomorrow. My number is 500, makes me feel lucky! I guess I'm in the largest wave, age group 40-49.

After this race, I need to think long and hard about the half marathon I signed up for in October. My preference is to run in the morning before it gets too hot. Running in the middle of the day may work, but is not ideal. I'm just not an evening exerciser...If I'm really committed to the HM running in the evening would be an option, but actually doing it would be difficult for me.

Lisa-what spin bike do you have? Do you have a road bike? Perhaps we could ride on the weekends? Thanks for the well race wishes. I don't expect anything spectacular, but will do my best!

Jody-don't worry about the road trip, you just do what you can do. We are cathletes and know how to modify. BM2 is super fun for me, especially the Cardio Blast premix, nice job!

Angela-It seems all the segments of x10 work the shoulders, that's why they are fried at the end. You can do it!!!

Hi Ladies,

I survived the Tri! It was a really fun day. My overall time was 34 seconds slower than last year. I don't care too much about my time, but would really like to improve my swim time. I felt really good in the water and was 15 seconds faster than last year. The new bike route was really hilly and I didn't push myself too hard....I could've gone harder.

There is another tri in 2 weeks that I'm considering doing. Is named Tri My Way, where you can do the events in the order you like. I would probably swim/run/bike. We'll see.

Today is a rest day for me! My MIL is having hip replacement surgery. She's 75 and in good health, but I am nervous about this. Please send good thoughts for a successful surgery and recovery.

Angela-Awesome job with X77!!!! I always start out using 10's and usually have to drop to 8's eventually for the OH presses.

Jody-Power Hour, an oldie but goodie. That one always fried me. Nice work.

Lisa-my neck/shoulder area is a sore today. I even had them massage it after the race yesterday. I may be calling your massage therapist for an appointment. We have so many bike lanes in Broomfield, I've never had an issue with cars. Thanks for the info on the spin bike.

I didn't make it here yesterday, I woke up and my body said 'I need a rest day!' so I only walked the dogs 2, slow, miles. Today, I hit it hard, a 2.2 mile dog walk, then Cathe Live metabolic workout (I was expecting FT, it felt more like AB to me), then I wanted to try out a new trainer on studio sweat so did 35 mins spinning. Then I did vacuum-max and mop-max... I'm exhausted!

Angela, I'm really getting into studio sweat, the free workouts you get for the trial were ok, but I'm finding ones now that I signed up that I like better. Love the variety in workout music! Great job on X77 and surviving! I'll have to try it one day (not in the near future).

Diana, have you tried heat or moist heat on your neck shoulder? I'm finding when mine flares up to get it moving (even though for me especially I think I need to rest it), but just some gentle moves to get the blood pumping thru the muscle again. I hope you get in to see Christy, I know when I called her the first time, I was so desperate for help that she made room in her schedule for me (of course I was just a few months after neck spine surgery). You are Cray, cray for thinking of another tri!

I did Rhythmic Step this morning and a sloooowww jog this afternoon. I guess it was steady state cardio day.

Diana, great job! I wondered what your motivation is for the tris? Challenge? or ongoing threshold and then you try to raise the bar by inc time or more difficult course? Or just keeping things mixed up? Just thinking and wondering.

Lisa, you are doing a good job of finding online workouts, especially ones that work for you, that is awesome. Ha, I'm going backwards and pulling out older dvds! Good thing I don't have any VHS around!

Angela, great sounding workouts! Ugh for internet going out. I would have been on the couch eating bon bons after the first glich. lol. : )

I did a 2.75 mile dog walk and then an intermediate Pilates reformer session. I'm taking it easy today to give my body a break for the next 2 intensive hiking days.

Angela, I can't get to studio sweat today :(. good think I changed my workout plans. There is some problem with some main router from Comcast or something like that, the site says it isn't their problem and a lot of people are affected but not all. That's why I don't like about on demand service! I had glitches in the Cathe live workouts pausing in the past too, just a few seconds but it made the workout lose the flow (though it was on the RT step one so after a while I was happy to catch my breath). Studio sweat has speedspin workouts that are typically 30 min, then straight up spin which is about 60 min, then spin/core which is about 45 min spin and 15 core sprinkled in or at the end, spin sculpt where you have sculpting in between spinning sessions(I'm not really doing those).

Jody, I can't believe with your exercise ADD that you hung in for the whole hour of RS :)

I'll be out of the loop for a while, I"ll pop in when I can!

RT will be here before we know it!
