Daytona Trippers

I did a 2.5 mile dog walk then did a spin/sculpt workout from studio sweat, wow, just wow! I feel like I'll be in burning calorie mode all day, haven't felt this worked since I did cardio coach running on the treadmill. I'm thinking of getting clip pedals and shoes now for the bike....I don't want to spend a fortune, found some clip pedals on amazon, Diana, any recommendations for shoes?

Angela, great on your endurance improving, these studio sweat spinning classes are really kicking mine into high gear! I think I found my post surgery, new body workout! Went to bike store got clip pedals and shoes, tested them out, already feels like a huge difference, can't wait to do another tomorrow! I'm thinking of trying out their spin/Pilates (a new offering) just because I know my legs are going to need a stretch! Cat Kom is the bomb! Now if I can just get her body :) it helps that she's so tall

hey trippers, I'm just stalling before bed. I've been working lots and just got home about an hour ago but I've got to get up soon. I did 1500 steps at work today, but I've never tracked, how does that rate for an avg day? It felt like a medium day for me, I've been busier and slower.
Diana, I hope MIL doing ok now. Angela, I'm not sure what you are up to. Planes trains and automobiles? Traveling? Have fun! Lisa, you sound so happy about your w/o that is awesome. BBL, maybe monday with a workout.

Got a late start on working out today, had to see DH off to the airport this morning. We did a 2 mile walk with the dogs this morning, then this afternoon, I started a spin/Pilates on Studio Sweat, loved the spin, the Pilates, meh, I don't like floor Pilates when I have a reformer, so after the 30 min of spin, I did a 1 hr Pilates reformer. I sweated as much on the Pilates as I did the spinning! Ready to rest now! Maybe read some.

Angela, I'm hoping the spinning helps me get these last few pounds off quickly(like for the road trip) . It certainly is shocking my body. I do see more strength in the legs for the standing light work on the bike and while I was doing the Pilates on the reformer, there is a down stretch where your knees are down for 2 sets and then you left your knees for the last (hard to explain), anyway I saw a difference in how well I did it with the knees off, I think I have spinning to credit for it.

Hmmm, did I say that I went and got spinning shoes? And clip in pedals, I used part of my birthday money for it, so I don't feel too bad about splurging, but DH did say "what else do you need?", I said, " hmmmmm, since you are asking, how about a HRM, but then I said no, don't I'd obsess over numbers (besides once I get my workout area back together I can use the HRM on the TM while I'm on the bike. So sweet of DH though, he said I was really working it doing the spin.

Jody, last Sunday, I did absolutely nothing (was wiped out from birthday), I did go to the grocery store, for the day I had 4500 steps, very low, normally I'm averaging 12,000 a day, but once I lose this weight I can see dropping to 10,000 as I concentrate more on weight lifting and Pilates where you don't get many steps for your effort. I did hit another weight milestone so I'm on for the push to get to the upper limit of where I want to be for the RT.

Diana, how is MIL doing? I see on FB you got the bootcamp workout in?

Hi Ladies,

I'm back! DH and I spent the weekend, from Friday through today with MIL. I did get out yesterday for a wedding and DH stayed with his mom. She is doing wonderful. She gets around pretty good and can shower on her own. I'm not sure if she can stand long enough to cook for herself yet.

I left MIL's earlier this morning and went to the 10am class that I like. DH is still at his mom's but should be home when his sister gets there to relieve him. After that I cleaned up the kitchen and mowed the lawn. Once DH get's here with his laundry then I'll tackle that.

Next on the list shower and grocery shopping. I need to get a quick list together and head out.

Thursday was an STS w/o in the PM, Friday was BR day 30, Sat-REST, Today-class at rec ctr, and STS CSB (disc 4 I think)-and my ab machine with 20#!

Lisa-I've just been hanging with MIL & DH. How do you like the new spin shoes? The Spin shoes will allow you to get more hamstring recruitment on the up action instead of just using the quads when you push down. If I get a spin bike it has to be sturdy enough for over 300# so DH and DS3 can use it. As it is, my elliptical is only rated for up to 300#.

Hi to Angela & Jody!

Hi Ladies,

Me Again...where is everyone? This morning I did Cross Fire and then went for a walk just now at lunch. I'm over 8K steps so I should reach 10K today!

BBL to see what everyone else is up to.

I didn't sleep well last night, my hips/lower back was hurting, I'm wondering if it's from spinning. So I just took a nice leisurely walk with the dogs 3.75 miles and then did XT disc 2 bi/tri. I

Diana, you deserve ^5's for doing your workouts and the commute and maintaining a good attitude!

I did some research and found better shoes for less cost! So went up to REI, guess it's the end of the season sale on cycling stuff so got 25% off, so got $110 shoes for $85, Pearl Izumi brand that studio sweat recommends. The feel sooooo much better, can't wait for tomorrow's spinning! Now I gotta take the others back.....

Hi all,
I agree, Diana does deserve High fives for keeping up. Angela, have fun and make as many healthy choices as you can, you should be good, right? Lisa, congrats on shoe deal. Maybe I'll try the Fitbit ONE if I decide to really track.
I worked 6 out of 7 days last week which is why I was mostly mia. Today I did LIC cardo step blast pm this AM and sorta thought I'd get in another w/o but, nope. I'm going in tomorrow, unplanned, so I won't work out but i should stay busy and active. I used the physical therapy room and did some work the other night but I won't count on that to be the case on a regular basis. Waves to all.

Did 2.5 mile walk this morning then a 30 min spin to test out my new shoes, these feel much better and didn't flare up my PF. Taking it easy today as going for massage shortly, ah, I need it, my neck/shoulder muscle hurt yesterday, and today is just the DOM type feel.

Jody, I like the Flex because it's a bracelet (instead of clipping on your clothes), the clasp is iffy and some have lost theirs so when I'm really active (especially hiking with the pole straps around my wrist) I use the hair bands to cinch the 2 sides together, (imitating the fitbelt I've seen ---I'm too cheap to buy them).

Diana, our workout preferences seem to be polar opposites. I prefer CrossFIre to TTM--hardly ever do TTM. I guess I have always needed the easier less impact workouts, and now even more so...

Hi Ladies,

This morning was CLB. I hope to do and extra leg workout each week in addition to STS. It may make the STS program a bit longer, but I need work on my lower body, especially the backside. I downloaded a September Squat Challenge posted on FB by Bodyrock and will try to incorporate that into the mix.

HopefullyI can get out for a walk here at lunch. If I can make it, I plan on going to the Tabata class. I wasn't a fan of the first one I went to but would like to give it another try. I will be meeting with my coach soon on the Project Me program. I'm really excited about this as it focuses a lot on nutrition. I already love to exercise so that's not a problem. Getting the nutrition right is a lot of work.

Lisa-oh no, sorry you woke up with pain-no fun. Hopefully the massage therapist can work on that too. What a great deal you got on the spin shoes. My bike shoes are not compatible with the pedals on spin bikes. That wasn't a consideration when I bought my pedals and shoes. Um, I don't recall saying CrossFire was easy, I just don't reach for it often.

Jody-ITA with Lisa, the fitbit flex is the best option IMO. The fitbit one can easilty fall off or easy to forget to take off before washing, it's also very small and can get lost easily. Get the flex and you can track along with me and Lisa!!

Angela-check in when you can. For me, 10K steps is a bit over 5 miles. I have a hard time reaching the 10K steps if I don't at the very least go for a walk at lunch. Even then I may not reach it. If I do a step w/o that helps a lot.

Hi Ladies,

This morning was STS Disc 5-Back & Triceps. After that I did the squat challenge. The squat challenge consists of: squats, squat jumps, sumo squats, split squats and pistol squats. The first day you do 5 of each move and then add 5 more for each subsequent day. I watched the progression for pistol squats on youtube last night since do not currently have the ability to do those. Hopefully I will be able to do those soon.

Unfortunatley I did not make it to the Tabata class last night. It is just really tough to get to a 5:30 class when dealing with unknown traffic.

Not sure if I mentioned that I'm doing a mud run/obstacle race on Saturday. It's at the commons Lisa if you want to come cheer me on! LoziLu | Denver

Angela-It is really tough to stay on track when you do not have any control of your food. Just do the best you can and don't stress about it. Walking is awesome too!

bbl to see what Lisa and Jody are up to.

I'm having a low energy, blah type of day. Dog walk of 2.8 miles, I need to figure out a new route for days I need to stay off the off road paths(because of rainy days), the last 2 days I hit too much school traffic. The sound of cars for too long just makes it so unpleasant for me. I then tried KCM Plateau Buster premix, I did it for 20 min and just decided it wasn't what I wanted, finally decided on a Pilates reformer 60 min workout. I'm just proud of myself for sticking to it and doing something, many times I wanted to crawl back in bed and cover up my head and....(you finish the tune).

Angela, Studio Sweat is having a labor day deal (good until Sept 8th). I'm going to cancel my membership and try to reapply for the deal, otherwise I'll use a different email! My month renews on the 9th, so canceling on the 8th and then starting again with the 1/2 price is too good a deal to pass up. Enjoy yourself, there is always time later to get back in the groove!

Diana, I'm tired of this rainy weather, and it was sooooo muggy humid this morning. It was cool but still by the end of the walk I was a sweaty mess from the humidity. Jody is the pistol squat queen (LOL), not really, I just know she's talked about them in the past.

Yes, I was trying to do pistols at one point, maybe last year, but they have fallen completely off my radar at this point. : ( However, that run sounds like a lot of fun, I wish I could join Diana for that one.

Lisa, great job on sticking it out and getting in a workout. I wavered this morning as well. I even took a potty break in the workout but came back and kept stepping!

Angela, thanks for the count down! I was counting on road trip to be enough motivation for losing pounds (in my heart I wanted to drop 15, about 5 pds a month, not unreasonable or out of the question, imo). Clearly that is not going to happen so overall I'm not too gung ho for RT so its a good thing I'm already committed or this would be the time I'd be dropping out.

I did Step Fit today, baked black bean brownies and then had a tea and meditation afternoon with my dance buddies. I plan to pick up some wts and do something else this afternoon, I'll let you know! : )

Hi Ladies,

My weight has been up the last 2 days...UGH.:mad::mad: I know this because I weigh myself everyday. It could be from weight lifting....those muscles hold the water. I've also been eating salmon in my salads. Oh well...I will be keeping a close eye on it.

This morning was BR day 1 and Squat Challenge Day 3. I'm doing level 1 progression of the pistol squat. Cathe does this move in some of her w/o's too. It's just sitting in a chair and standing up on 1 leg. I used 12#'s for this exercise. I've had such good results from BR so I'm adding those back in too. My main focus is STS though. Tomorrow will be the next legs disc, 6 I think.

Lisa-sorry you aren't liking the rainy weather, I love it! My grass is green and I don't have to water! The school traffic is an issue. Perhaps you can start your walk a few minutes later, after the school traffic clears. Do you ever take a rest day? Sometimes when you are having "one of those day", it's your body talking to you and you need to listen. I'm doing pretty good getting in my 10K steps by walking twice a day at work. I do a shorter walk in the morning and a bit longer at lunch.

Jody-you will be surprised by the variety of shapes, sizes, and fitness levels on the RT. I wouldn't stress about it at all. People go because they love Cathe and want to meet other like minded Cathletes, not because they are a certain size or weight. I made black bean brownies for the first time last night-delicious! The ones I made were done in a muffin tin so they are already single serve. That works well for me cuz I would cut myself a giant brownie if given the choice!

Angela-glad you are enjoying time with DH, that's what this time is for. I'm sure the lack of complex carbs and protein is why you are hungry. It's only for a short time so just do the best you can and enjoy!

Went a new route (away from the schools---I live right by 3 (elementary, middle, high--- was nice when the kids went to school, now not so much), anyway went 3.5 miles. Then came back and did Cathe Live Cardio and Weights, it was mostly UB. Since I'm enjoying not having sore knots in my shoulder (this last massage really left me feeling good), I decided I"m taking it easy on the weights so only used 5 lbs . My hamstrings are really sore today, there is one exercise called 'evil hamstrings' on the reformer, I haven't ever done it for various reasons, now I know why it's called evil hamstrings :)

Diana, yea, it entered my mind about a rest day, that's why I did an easy reformer workout. It could definitely be the muscles causing wt gain. I think the reason my measurements are a bit bigger at the same weight I was 8 yrs ago is because of the less muscle. So I guess that means I'm fatter than I think I am  Is salmon bad because it's so fatty (but a good fat)?

Jody, I think I"m a bit blah for various reasons. 1.Hormones----I feel "off" ---isn't it when the estrogen dips you get PMS? Anyways, I feel like my estrogen is low even with hormone pills, been having awful hot flashes, and that darn chin hair came up again and grew back in 10 days. And the blahs turned into grumpies . 2. I miss DH 3. I soooo want my house back to myself, I can't put my finger on any specific thing, though maybe it's all the little things adding up. As far as RT, I'm tired of watching what I eat, I'm trying to hang in there for the final push, but I'd still like to be at a better place in my workouts (for example, I'm really trying to keep that shoulder knot at bay and did table top pushups (and not all of them)), what a wimp I am! I think we should try not to dwell on the "I wish" and instead enjoy the experience!

Angela, that must be one massive trip you are on!

Quick Pop in for me. I just walked over to the other building and donated blood. My BP was 102/50. I do have low blood pressure, it goes along wiht the hypothyroid and slow metabolism.

Lisa-the salmon isn't bad, it's how much I'm eating that is bad.:p Keeping my food intake in check is my real problem. I love to exercise, that's the easy part. Not overeating is very challenging for me and a constant struggle.

Did a 3.25 mile walk and a 60 min spinning. I got a HRM (it was on sale and I got cash back bonus for opening a new checking acct--- yea, I;m justifying it). I knew fitbit said I burned less calories than I was! I burned 516 per the HRM. But my walk I burned less via HRM than via Endomondo&fitbit. Oh no, I better not start playing number games!

Diana, that is a low BP, mine is high (hereditary) but so much better when I'm working out and not working at a job :) Do you take medication for your thyroid?
