Daytona Trippers

Hi Ladies,

I'm sufficienty sore all over thanks to STS for the last 3 days and my class at the gym. My glutes and legs sure are sore too! This morning was disc 12-legs and this concludes STS MESO 1!

The rest of this week will be BR or Cathe circuits. My final weigh in for the 6 week challenge is on Saturday. I bribed my youngest to the 10 week Men Vs Women weight loss challenge that starts on September 15th. They will be using my ending 6wk ending stats as my 10 wk starting stats.

Lisa-Wow, Athleting Training is awesome. I feel so accomplished after finishing the first cardio section! I'm not nearly as efficient as I used to be. Mail, filing, running errands all stack up for the weekends. When I worked close to the house, I had more time to take care of these things. Trust me, there is a ton of clutter in my house. We really need to do a thorough purging of junk. It's never ending really. I wish we had an office, that would help a lot.

Angela-welcome back!! Sorry you had to let someone go on your first day back. Rest up and join us on the workout front when you are ready! We'll be here to cheer you on!

Waving Hi to Jody!!!

Diana, congrats on finishing M1! I semi enjoyed lawn work, but not the frustration of a mower or weed eater that didn't start part of the time. Oh gosh and now that I think of it, trimming the Bouganvilla, a thorny task, gak.

Lisa, I ordered a few things for holding my phone and stuff when I walk or run (speaking of workout gear). I may double dip and use them at work too. One is a fanny pack really and one is a bag that hangs on your waist band. I may carry a purse even less often than I do now.

Angela, YAY for getting your workout in! It can be hard to find a Cathe that doesn't seem daunting when you are in a slump or coming off a break. Great job.

Today I did Circuit Blast, about 30 min of it this morning and the last half of it plus a partial redo this evening and a 2 mile walk. I also got on the scale and confirmed I regained the few pounds I'd lost. I could see and feel it anyway.

KCM Weights w/o #2 plus Abs done and 2 mile walk carrying a coconut (it felt like 5 pounds but I didn't weigh it). Correction, yesterdays w/o was Circuit Max, an older w/o on same dvd as KM.

Hi Ladies,

Rest day for me today. I didn't sleep very well last night and have a sinus headache now. There have been some sick employees in the office and now I feel like I'm coming down with something. The stuffy head and ears hurting are not fun.

Jody-Circuit Blast-Nice Job!!! I don't recall doing this very many times. Does it have a ton of shoulder work?? If it's the one I'm thinking of it does have a lot of shoulder work.

Angela-Yay for getting in your workout. The first w/o after a break is the hardest...and now that's behind you! Hopefully this w/o will kick start your motivation!

Lisa-Goodmorning!

I may need to run out and get some sinus medication. This headache is horrible. I wish I could've stayed home and slept. UGH

Diana, I hope you feel better soon!
I came back to add that I found a juvenile snake in workout area this morning that my kitty had killed. : (

Today was a 3.9 mile dog walk and then LBB.

Angela, I didn't nap (at least not yesterday), but I did veg out on the couch and watched the episodes from 24 that I've had on the dvr forever. Good job on High Reps, my normal go to after a break workout is MMA KB

Diana, Hope you feel better, any chance it's the storms coming in? I don't get headaches too much anymore (knock on wood), but when I do, only RX Relpax kicks it out. Did you hear about that virus going around (enterovirus)? I've never clicked with Athlete Training, but after yesterday I think I have a new favorite, it helped now that I gave myself permission to go one level lower in weights and risers!

Jody, um, why were you carrying a coconut around? I get those 2 workout names confused too! And I don't even have the older one.

ha ha, it was on the sidewalk (beneath the palm trees). And full but not split open so I wanted to see if I could open it and have some fresh coconut water. I did open it and there were almost 2 cups in there but it didn't taste good so I just had a sip in case. The nut might have been too green. IDK.

I did 60 min of spinning, on that endorphin high, burned 502 calories, then since it's rainy this morning, did XT bi/tri, I hope to walk the dogs this afternoon if only for a short walk. I'm meeting my BFF for lunch (she's treating me for my birthday), so will binge a bit, hence why I pushed it today :)

Jody, I'm not a fan of coconut water. Kat Com (of studio sweat) is all for it as a way to replace sodium after sweating heavily during a workout (I love their you tube channel). She says that if you are really wiped out after a workout you may need to replace some sodium if you are a heavy sweater. I have a hard time adding sodium intentionally to my diet. Wonder some days when I'm wiped if it's a sodium thing since I sweat so much.

Angela, I confess, I took a nap yesterday, I slept so bad I was tired. My sleeping isn't great lately again.... blaming meno.

Diana, I had a slight headache this morning. Not sure if it's the weather or if it's the Gabapentin I took to sleep and to try to head of the hot flashes I've been having . Been doing some internet research, I'm plagued with hot flashes lately, even though I'm on HRT (been on that since no estrogen was detected when I was 46 and not sleeping--- but I wasn't in meno), now that I'm 50, I'm wondering if it's meno causing hot flashes. I don't go back to gyn for a while, I really don't relish the thought of making a special trip to that dr, so hoping to wait until my next annual.

Hi Ladies,

No workout for me today, still feeling under the weather. This sinus headache, sore throat and ears are no fun.

On the upside, my boss let me work from home today since I had a dentist appt. I'm looking forward to mid October when I can start working from home 2 days per week.

DS and I both weighed in with our coach to get our starting numbers for the 10 week wt. loss challenge. I'm also using this as my final weigh in for the 6 week challenge. My weigh day should be Saturdary, but we are taking MIL to MiMi's for brunch. My weight was down 2+ lbs, but I don't have the breakdown of bodyfat %, water weight, muscle weight etc. yet. It will be nice to see those numbers, although the difference is really in the mirror and the looser fit of my clothes. I'm going to have DH take pics now and at the end of the 10 wks.

I hope to get back to my regularly scheduled workouts tomorrow.

Lisa-nice w/o lady!!!! Enjoy your lunch. Remember, it's just one meal and you need to be able to enjoy your life! Coconut water is really good for you. Plus it's natural sodium and potassium, not the extra salt that is added to canned foods or soda. Make a smoothie with coconut water and see how you like it then.

Jody-snakes, yuck, I hate snakes! If the coconut water tasted yucky then it was probably too green.

Angela-what are you up to today?

Hi Ladies,

I'm still not up to par, but did get up and do BR day 7 this morning and my ab machine. This particular wokout had a butt burnout section at the end so I opted out of the Squat Challenge for today.

I forgot my cold medicine at home and could really use it.

You ladies should check out cathe's newsletter from 9/8. One of the articles specifically talks about HIIT and Weight Training to address belly fat. This explains why I've had such good luck with the BR w/o's and the flatter abs!

Angela-sounds like the jet lag is finally catching up with you. Sometimes just a short workout will help. Sorry to hear about the plumbing issues, house problems are right up there with car problems. It's always something.

Hi Lisa & Jody!

Chilly, grey day today :( I did do PRS1 step mix PM and that's it, no dog walk today (I did take them yesterday for 2 miles). My upper back is super sore, I must have over did it a bit yesterday (I'm so tired of hurting between the shoulder blades... this is more like bad DOMS, aggravated by the cold weather and I think it got chilled during my workout), and with the cold weather I just felt curling up on the couch and eating, thankfully I only curled up on the couch, no major eating!

Diana, I think I read that article. Glad you are feeling good enough to workout but sorry to hear you still feel bad enough to need medicine. Please don't tell me you liked Today's weather! I'm thinking of moving in with Jody this winter...ahhaha

Angela, I used to do afterburn a lot, but now I don't like it because of all the mountain climbers (can't do them). If you need some of this Canadian cold weather sent your way, I'm happy to get it out of here!

Hi Ladies,

This morning I did BR Day 8. Still feeling a bit stuffy but getting better.

Lisa-sorry, but I do like the cooler weather. No worries though, it looks like we are back in the 80's next week. Nice step w/o!! I haven't done the PRS's maybe once or twice each.

bbl to see what everyone is up to today.

TGIF!!!!

I'm making up today for my couch warming I did yesterday, I had that heating pad on my upper back all day it hurt so bad. It's uber chilly today (in fact some places saw a skiff of snow. With the cooler weather, I was like, uh, what do I have to wear? So this morning I cleaned out the closet and all my drawers. All dressier work clothes are GONE now, woot! And sorted through all the various sizes. I got rid of a lot, but saved some bigger jeans/pants and threw out the small sizes that I have to starve myself to get into (I wanna look nice and be fit but I don't want to starve myself forever!). With the colder temps, it's hard for me to get moving, I need to get into a cooler weather schedule :) I did 60 min of spinning and then took the dogs for a 2.5 mile walk. I had to figure out WTH to wear in the cold outside and keep the important muscles warm but try not to be too hot. So I layered a short sleeve shirt (wicking material ), a long sleeve shirt, and a new jacket I just ordered from Old Navy, it's a bit big, but. I didn't want it skin tight since I Knew I wanted to layer, it has thumbholes to keep your hand partway covered, but I still could have used gloves! And it has a nice hood (and I used it!). I really like the jacket, now I'm thinking of getting one in the next size down for when I don't layer a lot underneath, hmmm.

Diana, good to hear you are getting better, being sick stinks! I used to like the cooler weather (actually if I could just have a perfect 72 degrees all the time, that would be fine with me, I don't think that place exists! Oh and not too much humidity, just enough to make my skin happy enough). With all the couch sitting I did yesterday, I figure it was a bit like working, still getting in a Cathe workout, getting in barely 10,000 steps, and boy was my calorie burn (per fitbit) LOW! I can now see why I gained weight over the last 4.5 yrs when I went back to work after my last big weight loss!

I never made it here yesterday, had a busy day...I did LLA (was sore this morning from it), then went to Costco (broke the bank), went to get haircut with DH (our stylist has cut our hair for 28 yrs, she noted how 'good' I looked, YES!), went to Lush to stock up on lotion for the winter, went to Old Navy to get DH to look at clothes to buy--yes, I have to help him(ended up going home and ordering online), took dogs for short walk -- maybe about 1.5 miles?, and to pet store to get some food/treats for them. Whew! Today is a bit calmer, I did LICh (just when you are done with the step combos and finished product, then there are blasts, I always forget there are blasts and think I'm almost done), then a 2.5 mile dog walk, and grocery shopping (to get the few things that I couldn't get at Costco), back home and NAP! I didn't mean to nap, it just happened :)

Angela, we are back to warm, my body was in shock from going to 80's to 50's! brrrr! I do understand what you mean by scrunching up. I'm trying to take notice more of what my body is doing and try to relax and undo it. For example, after surgery I hurt sooooo bad, my shoulder just creeper up to the ears because of the pain, I had to always stop, think, try to relax. Yesterday I was standing at the hair place and a cool wind blew in, I noticed the 2 areas that knot up on my shoulder blade start to hurt, so I relaxed and told myself, you are not cold! It helped. Today I also notice that when I'm to the exhausted phase, I'll lose my posture to 'get thru' and notice upper back muscles hurting, then when I get my posture back it eases up. I think Thursday I was just pushing to get thru the workout and vacuuming that I didn't pay attention to the exhaustion and the cold, and bam! Man, I've taken my body for granted all these years for how well it's served me. As far as rotations, whatever gives you the incentive! I used to follow them then I'd get to a workout I didn't like and after a couple a weeks there went the rotation. I do like to follow them sometimes, I guess right now there would be too many substitutions still for me (plus they don't have spinning, can't believe how I like spinning now!). I'm trying to only do one hour long UB workout a week, and one that is includes UB in a metabolic workout a week to try to keep my UB pain at bay, but boy do my legs get TIRED! As far as impact from HIIT, well, I'm becoming a superb modifier (and not feeling guilty about it), I still don't feel comfortable doing jumping jacks (doc says I'm fine to do them, even running), but since the spine basically has 26 vertebra, of which there are 52 joints for each side (facet), um, I really don't want to risk any more damage (though my damage was probably influenced from a major car accident when I was 5). I don't notice much from HIIT workouts either but then I'm not one to notice changes too much. Although I will say, my cardio has skyrocketed from spinning and my leg strength too! Have I talked you into spinning yet?

Hi Ladies,

I had a great weekend, busy but fun! Saturday we took MIL to brunch at Mimi's. I also started Meso 2 with disc 13-CST, and did a BR w/o. Sunday I did another BR w/o and disc 14-legs. The trisets were super tough, only 10 reps but tough.

On Sunday we also got a couples massage for our anniversary. It will be 26 years on the 17th. The gal really worked on my left side-neck and shoulder area that is still quite bothersome. She said I should come back in 2 weeks.

Today is day 1 of the 10 week weight loss challenge. There is a workout at 6:30 and then the meeting/discussion is at 7:30. I hope to make the 6:30 class. Unfortunately, Jerod has school and will not be able to join me for the class.

Lisa-Sounds like you got some spring cleaning done! Yay. I've gone through my closet several times, getting rid of too big and too small clothing. I want to feel good in my clothes regardless of my size.;) By the way, I think San Diego is 72 year round! I would love to live there if I could afford it. DH said we could move there, we would just have to sell all our stuff and buy a 1 bedroom condo as it would be all we could afford!

Angela-sounds like you are getting back to your w/o's! X10 and B&G are no joke.

gotta run....bbl

Took a 3.6 mile dog walk today and then did XT CBS and Tabatasize tabata 2 (basically w/u, tabata 1 and tabata 2). DH is now sick, he always manages to catch something when he is out of town. Hope I don't get it!

Diana, oh, I love San Diego, waaaaaay too expensive for me too! Hope you get your left neck sorted out, it sure is lingering. Fun doing a couples massage, next time do a walk then a massage, get that man walking some! If I can get my DH walking some, then maybe you can.... of course having a dog helps :) he likes to throw pine cones or something into the bushes so they think there is some animal in there for them to chase. He says it's to keep them entertained, I think it's for his entertainment :)

Angela, wtg on getting back on the workouts.

Waves to Jody, are you out there? How's work going?

Hi Ladies,

I took the fitt camp class night prior to the wt. loss challenge meeting. I really like this new place. The workout was basically a bunch of different stations including pull-ups, wall balls, tricep kickbacks w/band, air jacks, bicep curls w/band, standing abs w/band, up and over a step w/3 risers, dumbbell rows, squat/swing/tricep w/kettlebell, abs with weights, ball slams, and jump lunges. I think it was 40 or 45 second work with 15 second rest. After we completed 1 round we ran a lap around the building. We completed 3 circuits and then did an ab tabata, cool down and stretch.

I also got my stats- down 2lbs, BMI down .3, body fat percentage down 1.7%, skeletal muscle percentage up .9 and my body age went down 1 yr.

This morning I did STS disc 15-Back & Biceps, then did my ab machine with 20#'s. I'm trying to use my ab machine twice a week. All the BR w/o's include weighted ab work. I probably work them 3-4 times per week.

Angela-walking is good! BM2 is a fun one for me. I usually do the cardio blast premix. AOLIH is not one of my favs.

Lisa-Nice job with Xtrain and Tabatacise! Tabatacise is a fun one and goes by quickly for me. I should probably add that in somewhere. Between STS and BR, I just don't have time to do it all. My DH is home for the second day now with gout. Honestly, it just makes me angry that he doesn't even try to take care of himself. I hate that he is pain, but IMO he needs to do something to help himself. UGH. We went to Hand & Stone over on 120th & Sheridan. They were fantastic. Of course they want you to buy their monthly program, but we did not. I think because the left side is already sore, and I carry my purse/laptop etc on that side it's just being more aggravated. She also want me to come back in 2 weeks. If it's not too expensive I would like to go back.

Jody-where are you lady?

bbl

Today was dog walk of 2.6 miles, AOLI, and BS Bi's. Just got back from massage, I wasn't hurting today when I went in, so ALMOST feels like a waste :) She said I was doing good, the attachments into the shoulder blade are not as tight (I've been trying hard to not overdo it and I have the massager to loosen them up). She said a TENS unit would be good for loosening and strengthening and she showed me exactly where to put the electrodes (Jody, I have a picture of where to place them, so I may need your help putting them on at the RT). She also said the muscles on left is catching up in "tone" to the right, it is at about 80%. I said 80% still sounds like quite a difference, what was it before, she said it was basically flat (ie, no tone I guess). She gave me some tips for dealing with the cold, she said, it's the cold on the neck that causes the rest of the muscle to tighten (ie, I feel the pain in my shoulder blade/rhomboid), reason being that the hardware is in the neck and the neck end of the muscle is cooling down too fast, so said to put on a scarf or something after a workout. This is similar to what I've been doing (draping a jacket over my shoulder like an old lady because I'm too warm to put the jacket on my arms). And if the muscle does tighten the TENS unit will help. Sorry for the novel.

Diana, I love AOLI. Those stats look good! Good job! Glad you liked the class last night, doesn't sound like my cup o tea, different strokes for different folks :) But seriously, some of the "standard" exercises I just can't do (massage therapist did say, are you able to do all you want to do yet, and push UPS, burpees, etc, ie things where you put your weight on your arms really isn't something I MUST have back, so she did get me looking at things a different way). As far as DH, it is frustrating to see those you love not taking care of themselves. I had a similar thing with DH, his was with chewing tobacco, I didn't think he was using it all these years (25 or so), and then I found out that he was (and hiding it from me), it took a few times of telling him that he wasn't just hurting himself, but me as well, and the boys. I stressed to him how important HE is to me and that I would prefer him to stop tobacco as I don't want to be a widow and that at the rate he was going he was going to leave me a widow for MANY years, right when I would need him. Of course I didn't say it that calmly :) DS also talked to him. Well, given his gum chewing I think he has stopped chewing tobacco (for some reason he didn't equate it to the same as smoking) so I think with the whole families encouragement he stopped. And then with him joining me for walks, he sees a difference in his BP. I hope some of this helps you to get thru to DH, it's hurts to see someone we love hurting themselves.
Oh, told my massage lady about your neck, she asked if you were under a lot of tension. I told her that you commute to DTC and she said that would do it :) I do have to say, I am wary of places that try to sell you on a monthly program, or a plan that in x number of treatments you will be better (a chiro I went to did that). I know Louisville is out of your way, but I can't say enough good things about my massage lady.

Angela, walking is nothing to sneeze at! I do see a difference in my fitbit numbers when I walk vs when I don't!

Jody, Jody, jody, where are you?

Hi all, sorry I'm mia. I did about 30 min yesterday, the step part from intensity. First workout in over a week.
Angela, I used to love bg. I still do but I'm not up for it lately. Diana you are truly kicking ass and taking names. I admire your commitment. Lisa, I won't be monitoring you at rt, but I will be the person you can look at and think, well at least I'm doing better than her!
I've got a 2014 Corolla, it's actually roomy but don't bring too much stuff so we can all fit. That count down is killing me. Ack.

Hi Ladies,

This morning I did 45 minutes of a 60 min BR w/o. DH needed me to drive him to work due to the gout in his right foot. It's also our 26th anniversary today.

DH is not interested in eating healthy or exercising. He did exercise for about 3 months and his blood work improved dramatically. This was several years ago. Obviously it was not enough for him to continue. He expects to die young just as his father (67yrs) and grandfather...around the same age. I cannot express how frustrating this is to me.

What I like about the BR and bootcamp w/o's is that the constantly changing exercises so there is no time to get bored. Also the metabolic nature of the these types of w/o's that I've seen the best results from.

Jody-nice to hear from you. Intensity, just the step section is quite an accomplishment! Not sure if I mentioned this, but I'm going to hang out at the airport until my roommate arrives and we will travel together to the hotel. I didn't want her to have to travel from the airport to the hotel alone.

Angela-Nice job with BM2!!! I totally agree, DH has to decide himself to be healthier and no amount of nagging will help.

Lisa-Nice job with AOLIH! It's just not one I reach for often. The therapist didn't over any sort of resolution time. I think the issue still stems from swimming and then carrying everything on that side doesn't help. They do over a monthly program similar to massage envy for folks who get regular massages, well you would get them at a discounted rate. Unfortunately, I do not have time to go to Louisville or I would definitely give your therapist a try. The 2 places I gone to are close to my house and open on Sat and Sun.

Off to a meeting...bbl
