Daytona Trippers

Hi ladies! I never made it here yesterday. I was up early yesterday (3:30am) but I did walk the dogs 4.1 miles yesterday and then was just blah and HUNGRY, so I went out to eat a good burger (CB & Potts) with DH, yum! Sometimes you just need to eat a good hearty meal. Then came home and fell asleep on the couch. THen feeling guilty, I did GS Tri's, I'm using the same weights as I did before surgery! I'm wondering if it's been cold blasts on my neck causing most of the issues (I do know pushups and lots of weight on my arms still can cause muscle knots so I'm not doing those). Today I walked the dogs 2.8 miles and then did 60 mins of spinning. I'm really trying to be careful about the cold wind on my neck (even a fan blowing on it) so I found that if you cut off the bottom of the t-shirt it is like an infinity scarf. So I walked and spun with a t-shirt around my neck, it almost looks fashionable (if I can get past the fact it's a t-shirt around my neck), and I think it may be helping (I do know it helped with the outside walk). I may make a fashion statement at the road trip :) I'm a bit worried of air conditioned air blown by a fan on it. I went to H&M to get me some lighter weight scarves for wearing in the summer (like when you are at a restaurant and air is blowing on you), and for spring/fall.

Angela, you were right! I was walking those dogs! Funny about our DH's, you at least let him know what he was in for before you married, me on the other hand, we got married and after a few months, I told him that I wouldn't kiss him if he smoked, he quit cold turkey but went to skoal . He knows I'm very passionate about tobacco as both my parents died at what I consider a young age (69 and 72) all because of smoking. I won't be telling him anything about e-cigs--- I'm more happy having him chomping away at gum

Diana, I hope you find a way with DH and health. He sounds a bit like my sister. No one can help her but her, it would be way harder dealing with a spouse. I haven't talked to my sister since my birthday and I feel bad about that, but I just can't listen to her yet again play the poor pity card when she makes bad choices (though she thinks there is some conspiracy of why she has so many problems, there is nothing she's doing wrong--- yea right).

Jody, no worries about the RT, let's vow to just enjoy ourselves! I'll be the one with the t-shirt around my neck :)

Hi Ladies,

Yesterday was a short but tough BR w/o, only 30 minutes. This morning was Disc 16-Chest/Shoulders/Triceps and my ab machine. I've been walking at lunch and that helps me get to my 10K steps. It's doubtful I'll ever meet Lisa's step count, but I'm happy to get 10K in each day. Weight days like today make it really difficult.

My neck/shoulder is really tight/sore...I don't know, but I think a daily massage would help. I may see if I can get in this weekend again. It feels very tight and weak sort of. Not really sure how to explain it.

DH was home yesterday but had me drive him to work this morning. He's still using crutches.

Angela-Nice job with Hard Strikes! You put too way much stress on yourself regarding the RT. It's a Girls Getaway for me. I am who I am. Everyone is super friendly on the RT's.

Lisa-were you up at 3:30 am intentionally? I've been sleeping pretty good lately. Of course I've been going to bed around 9pm in order to get up 5. Sorry but the link isn't working for me either. Perhaps you can email it to us. I've given up on DH's health, it's his responsibility and at this point there isn't really much I can do about it. Once I start working from home 2 days per week, perhaps we can get together for lunch/walking etc. :D

Jody-what are you up to???

bbl

Today was 3.25 mile dog walk and Rockport Knockout. I was glad to have my t-shirt scarf on the walk as the wind picked up and on my sweaty skin was a bit cool! Normally kickboxing workouts would make my shoulder blade hurt, will see how it is today, I made sure to wear my scarf (it shifted around a bit with the punching).

Diana, Now that I've been to my massage lady and how much help she has been to me, I'd go see her even if she was in Boulder! I would never be as far in my recovery without her. So far, the scarf thing appears to be working, who'd have thought that! I understand about wanting someone close especially with your commuting. For sure we should get together once you start working from home! I, for one, totally understand how your neck can be sore yet weak! Did the lady say it was your levator scapular? I wonder if my TENS unit (whenever I get it) would help.... you could always come over and try it out! I wasn't up at 3:30am intentionally, it seems a couple days a week I wake up early no matter what (I do go to bed around 9-9:30 each night). After a year of sleeping like a baby (body was recovering), I"m not happy about being back to early morning waking up. Do you watch biggest loser? That show is so inspiring to me, but then I have to be ready to be inspired. My sister watches and says "some of those people are as heavy as me, but I swear I do not look like that".... so it's all each individual choices and how they want to view life. Since I've gotten a new phone, I can't post pictures anymore, maybe they are too high res for the site, maybe once they upgrade the forum software? I'll message you the pic, and also the headband pic (yes I do have them sewn up now).

Angela, I like Hard Strikes, especially now that I sub the jumping jacks :) yep, that's me doing the easy version of jumping jacks on the road trip! For some reason they feel very jarring on the neck. Plyo jacks I can do easier.

Jody, don't worry I won't bring a dozen suitcases :) I was thinking that instead of bringing a refillable water bottle that maybe we can just stop and I can buy some disposable ones.... that saves some room!

I did afterburn today, I forgot which premix I liked and I picked the wrong one! I did Random burn, that was the whole DVD plus 2 rounds repeated, ugh, I was tired! Walked dogs for only 1.8 miles. My shoulder blade is doing well, very little to no pain, I guess keeping my neck warm is working. Strange to have to keep it warm in the air conditioning (house is set at 75). And no fan for any workouts, talk about sweating!

Angela, I'm sure you'll be back to your former self in no time! I only decided on RT because Jody talked me into it and then I'd know someone there, not sure I would ever sign up on my own, I'm a bit shy, especially in big groups. One of the exercises repeated in my workout today was the disc jumping jacks, first time I did them (very carefully--I try to make my leg take the jump--probably doesn't make sense until you have to limit neck, 2nd time, modification!). I modified mountain climbers so that I didn't have to have the weight on my arms by bringing in one leg at at time for 8 cts then went to other leg. Modified burpees to just stepping back legs and stepping forward, obviously didn't' do the pushups (never did), and squatted for 2 counts and then stood up. Eh, it worked! And best part is, my heart rate stayed up! I burned 425 calories!

Hi Ladies,

This morning I did STS Disc 17 and HIIT DWP. Then showered and went in for a hot stone massage. My neck is coming along albeit slowly. I could get used to these massages.

Not sure if I mentioned, but I had a vitalize peel on Thursday and my face is just starting to peel. I'm hoping it will be done peeling by Monday. I have sun damage and deal with acne....and lets not forget aging.

I attended both of the other 2 RT's with forum friends! It was a great place for us to meet up. The gal I roomed with in San Diego is also who I'm rooming with this time. The other gals are not attending this year. We'll probably get some previews of the new w/o's too!!!

Lisa-nice job, way to rock the extended premix you selected! Nothing wrong with modifying, I do it all the time. Just do the best you can do for you, it's not a competition. Your burpee modification is perfect! I catch The Biggest Loser occasionally but don't watch much TV. I do watch general hospital right before falling asleep though.:D

Angela-sorry to hear about the migraine, booh. I'm finally feeling some strength coming back! Doing nothing but tri training for almost 6 mos. really took a toll on my strength. I am looking forward to the new w/o's and hope we get a sneak peek on the RT.

waving hi to Jody....she's probably snorkeling in the ocean right now.;)

Hi-eee. Well I did a work out today, voot! KCM SS#2 lower body, it was great for me, plus I did a short jog to warm up.
Lisa I often watch biggest loser. I like the new trainers. I'm also motivated to work out after watching. Is it really your pov that I talked you into rt? Funny, I feel like you were the driving force! Either way, we will have a great trip, even if I do sit by the pool all weekend in a mumu :) :). Diana, I did think u were driving with me but you might have mentioned it and I didn't catch it being as how I've not been around. That's good that we can all meet up the day before anyway. I hope your peel is all done soon. Does it hurt? Angela are you recovered from your fabulous trip? I had good day off today, I plan on doing another kcm.tomorrow. bye for now

Edited to add today's w/o of KCM Wts #2. Maybe another KCM later, I'm working tonight but not sure how long so I might need to try to sleep, not just nap.

Hi Ladies,

I'm sitting here with an ice pack on my back while eating breakfast. I tweaked my lower back yesterday doing laundry of all things. It wasn't too bad yesterday but is worse today.

I started out doing BR Day 17 since it's a long w/o and I can only do it on a weekend. It had too many things in it that hurt my back so I opted to give the next STS disc a try. It was back and biceps....I got through the warm and pull ups just fine, but No Go on the rows. Then I threw in X10 and did the X53 premix with a few modifications. I plan on icing my back off and on throughout the day, hopefully it'll be fine in a day or so.

Jody-hello lady! Nice job with KCM!! I bought a couple KCM dvd's but have only done 1 of them 1 time. I did like her and the workout though. I'm happy to be your mumu buddy by the pool!!! No, there is no pain during the peeling face, just doesn't look very good. I'm hoping it's done peeling today as I have work tomorrow. I get peels periodically but often prefer some of the laser procedures that don't have this side effect.

bbl to see what Lisa and Angela are up to. I'm off to mow the lawn then prepare my meals.

Yesterday I took a rest day (but did walk the dogs 2.6 miles), my body just felt tired so I wisely decided to rest and make sure to reduce my calories for the day! Today I did 60 mins of spinning and 3 mile dog walk. I'm getting to the point where I can do even more resistance on the spin bike, in fact today's workout was mostly hills.

Angela,
I haven't ever worked out in an outfit until recently (when DIL took me to Old Navy), then I couldn't stop buying stuff, so thankfully I'm all set for the RT. I found a way to sew 2 t shirts together and braid one side for a snazzier scarf for working out...yeh I'll be the one wearing scarves! What causes your migraines? I swear hormones used to cause mine, now that I have low hormones I hardly get headaches anymore.

Diana,
Oh my, where on your back did you hurt it? I've been trying to figure out what would interfere with 1 arm rows and my crazy stupid levator scapular (neck to shoulder muscle) would definitely hurt with 1 arm rows, more especially those out to the side. You sure did a lot of working out even though it hurt!

Jody, The lady trainer seems so sweet and genuine, but I still think I would have picked Dolvett --- something about him -- his smile, his attitude. Funny how the guys picked the woman trainer and the girls picked the new male trainer. Did they pick because they were a hot opposite sex? I don't think I'd pick my trainer that way (even though Dolvett is hot). BTW, you brought up the RT first, so yea, you talked me into it (doesn't take much to get me to do things, plus DH was like, go--- sweet thing knew what a tough year I had and wanted me to have fun).

Hi Ladies,

This morning was CCC! I had to modify several of the cardio moves and did most of my own ab work. I'm still icing my back. Probably at least a couple more days before I can lift weights.

For you kickboxing fans, have you tried Kimberly Spreen? I have a couple of her w/o's and they are pretty good.

Lisa-Listening to your body is key. Everyone needs a full day of rest to let your body, mind, and muscles repair. That is so awesome when you can see your improvements! Great job kicking it up a notch on your spinning. I strained my lower back simply twisting wrong I guess while putting clothes from the washer into the dryer. Lifting anything, even the laundry basket is not working well for me yet. Bending over and even sitting hurts. Of course I did this after my massage. My shoulder/neck is feeling so much better though.

Angela-Oh no, hope you can stave off the migraine monster. My only experience with migraines were when I was in high school or pregnant. Mine were definitely hormone driven. I hate clothes shopping in general. I have enough tops, not sure about bottoms though. Some of my w/o Capri's are too loose to wear in public since I've lost weight. Probably time to take a quick peek at the "what to bring" list.

Jody-what are you up to???

bbl

Fyi, I have lower body doms now still from my kcm the other day.
Lisa, I think dolvet too, he is priven, but I think New girl will do well.

Hi Ladies,

This morning I did TTM Extreme premix! I modified where needed, probably only about 90% effort. Not my best, but the best I could do for today. My back is so sore and stiff in the morning, the w/o really helps loosen it up. Bending down to put on shoes is still painful, but it is getting better. I can't believe I strained my back putting clothes in the dryer, just twisted wrong. UGH. I'm hoping to get back to STS tomorrow but may need another day, playing it by ear.

Angela-Way to go with Crossfire! Which rotation are you following? Sorry, I forgot. I don't reach for Crossfire very often either as I prefer TTM. I do not like the ruching on the knees either. I work out in cheap men's A-shirts (wifebeaters) and compression bike shorts. If I go to the rec ctr, I always wear capris and either a w/o top or t-shirt. I do not wear shorts in public. Unfortunately I was not blessed with nice legs, nope...cellulite and spider veins..UGH. You just gotta do the best with what you've got!!! Enjoy your quilt retreat this weekend! Should be a fun time.

Jody-yay for DOM's!!!

Hi Lisa

bbl

Took a longer walk than I originally expected to so I only did 30/30. The walk was 4.33 miles and DH went too.

Diana, that's great that the massage is helping with your neck! One day I hope to be there :) Ah, the things we have to deal with what genes we got!
I'm sure you make it worse than it really is (don't we all?)

Angela, I haven't seen the ruching (once I have all the clothes I need I try not to look anymore!), but it doesn't sound flattering. So, do you quilt? I prefer quilting to sewing garments (they never turn out right). I'm really not a pro at all, but I"m happy with what I do, that's all that counts! I've started making up a list of what outfits I'll do for what workout and what tops/bottoms I'll pair together (such a planner, I just can't function any other way). Yes, I do bend my knees more to try not to jar with the jumping jacks, but man your thighs take it then and I get even more tired doing them that way. I never would have tried Old Navy until my DIL took me. I'm one that likes something nice but I don't want to pay a fortune for things (like Lululemon), sure those are nice, but I can't bring myself to pay a lot for stuff I'm going to sweat in. So, by fitted tank top, are those the ones with shelf bras? I used to wear those, but after surgery I just can't get them on anymore (and especially off once they are soaked with sweat). I'm liking the semi fitted tops at old navy with a colorful bra underneath---I don't need a lot of support anymore with small breasts and doing less impact.

Jody,
I'm hoping to hit the hot tub on the RT to help with the DOMS (and the achy neck/shoulder), who's in?

Hi Ladies,

Today is a rest day for me. I was just simply too tired to get up when my 5am alarm went off. A workout probably would've helped my back loosen up a bit though. It's taking longer than I want for it to get better.

I did go for a 40 minute walk and am up to 6900 steps. Not sure if I will get in my 10K or not, but I will give it a try.

Angela-did you get to CLB last night? Don't you have a swimsuit? You will definitely have to join us in the hot tub. Cardio isn't painful for my back, it actually gets the blood flowing and loosens it up. Sitting and sleeping, and bending down or getting up from the floor....not good yet. I'm icing still at night and that is helping. I use exercise apps on my phone when I travel. You have a great plan!

Lisa-glad to hear that DH is walking with you!!! I haven't done 30/30 in a long time. That might be a good one for tomorrow if my back isn't yet up to par. I'm considering just doing the biceps section of the Back & Bicep disc and just moving on from there. I'm sure in another week my lower back will be better. If it's too painful to bend down and pick up weights, then I'll just have to play it by ear.

Jody-what are you up to?

bbl

Today my workout plan was totally messed up , I did walk dogs and DH for 2.6 miles, then later I did GS Back/Shoulder ( I did GS Bi yesterday which I failed to report... still breaking up portions of UB). My shoulder/back and shoulder/neck muscle isn't as sore, I think I overdid it on the TENS unit  I was like, look how high I can turn it up before it "hurts" (I had one up to a 10 and one a 7, whereas right after surgery I had it to a 2), geez, I'll never learn not to just jump in with both feet! I kept it to 30 min like the massage lady said, but she didn't warn me about the strength of it :p. OK, quit your laughing now!

Diana, and I was texting about the RT today as I was planning out my outfits. In looking at the page, they failed to list a workout outfit for the last day on the beach (they did say to bring old shoes). I'm guessing too that for the stretch class we can just wear flip flops and take them off (ie. No sneakers for that one) I'm planning what goes with what with the t shirt scarves (which are also good for sweat soaker uppers) that I'm making (I'm losing my sewing room for a few days (DS coming in to visit his GF, we get to dog sit). So I need to make sure I get everything sewn up.

I went to the AT&T store and helped DH get a new phone (his iPhone 5S messed up with the new update, only way was to restore to factory settings so he got fed up with apple and went to android (FINALLY!), anyways, the store was sooooo cold, was thankful for my new H&M scarf, hey I might become a scarf girl after all....

Angela, Oh bring one of the old swimsuits, you never know! I swear the hot tub is what helped me do 2 strenuous hikes back to back for my birthday. I do not know how you ladies workout at night, my schedule was messed up today with DH phone, and it took everything for me to do something after we got back and after my belly was full of a good lunch --yes we went out to lunch too (hence why I did a lifting workout, whereas spinning was on tap).

Diana, I totally understand getting the blood flowing to loosen up..... I've had to do that for the last year and a half as I worked through this dratted neck issue. I'm sooooo over it some days. Are you stretching it too? Do you normally have a tight back? I do, I have to lay with my knees pulled up to my chest (the reformer helps with this, but I have put my butt and feet up against a wall sometimes too) and get my back good and stretched some days.

Jody, how's it been going for you?

Hi Ladies,

Sheesh, the time seems to be standing still today.

I'm missing the squat challenge as I was finally starting to see some results from STS and the Squat Challenge. That is on the back burner until this strained back issue resolves itself.

I wanted to mention a couple things regarding the RT: make sure you include jog bra, socks and hair tie (rubberband/etc) in each one of your w/o baggies, bring the insert for your favorite Cathe dvd for her to sign (you don't need to bring the whole dvd/case etc.)

What kind of casual clothes are you all bringing? When I was at the San Diego RT I took capris and a couple of nicer tops. Is anyone planning on taking dresses? I'm thinking I may bring a skirt or 2 and some sandals.
Angela-no one cares how old your swim suit...bring it...you are joining us in the hot tub!

Lisa-I can stretch my neck/shoulder area and do on a regular basis. I don't normally have a tight back...just due to a terrible laundry injury on Saturday. Pulling my legs up or bending down even with my back straight is problematic...even sitting is painful. It feels better when I'm standing/walking/cardio. What kind of phone did DH get? I have the Galaxy s4 and love it. I keep looking at the s5, it is much bigger and I'm not sure I want that.

Come on 4pm.....

Hi Ladies,

My back is finally starting to feel a bit better. This morning I did BR Day 12-legs/glutes focused. There was only 1 exercise I had to substitute! Tomorrow I may give disc 18 (back & biceps). If I can't do the back work then I will just do the bicep work and move on.

Angela-hope you are feeling better so you can enjoy your quilting getaway!!! I would recommend using the ziploc bags, it just makes thing so easy.

Lisa-In 2 weeks at this time we will be on a plan to Florida!!!! I need a break from this long drive. The drive isn't really stressful, but all the time it takes away from home and getting other things done is stressfull. Thanks so much for helping me pass the time yesterday! It was a long day.

....waving hi to Jody!

Hi Ladies,

So I finally turned on endomondo for my walk, it was 1.92 miles. I had already been walking a bit when I turned it on, and it doesn't pick up in my building or the parking garage since it uses GPS. My lunch walks are about 2 miles, not to shabby!

bbl

Back on my normal schedule (I get discombobulated when I get off schedule! Wow, that sounds old!). Anyway I walked 2.3 miles with the dogs, then came back and did 60 min of spinning and vacuuming.

Diana, I used to have a Galaxy 4, then I got an upgrade, so gave it to DS to get the LG3 and I got his LG2. DH got a LG3. Supposedly the LG doesn't have as much "bloat" ie junk preloaded on it. The LG3 is cool in the sense that you can have 2 apps up on the screen at the same time. I wasn't planning on any dresses (uh, I don't think I have but a couple and not sure if the sizes fit, I'm now 1 pound from my RT goal (i'd have liked to have lost another 3 on top of that, but I'm happy with what I've accomplished). So I'm definitely bringing shorts (I love shorts in FL), I guess I should bring a pair of jeans (I sooooo do not really like wearing jeans in the hotter weather), and obviously yoga pants. I really don't have much else! I guess I cleared out the closet too good? 2 miles is awesome for a walk during work! I used to take a break every hour and take a spin around the building (I guessed that was 1/4 mile), I'd do it about 4 times a day, then the walk in/out of the building itself was a mile round trip. It was harder to take that break when I was really into whatever work I was doing (which was rare.... most of the time I was bored). I'm so happy to be retired (and hopefully for good this time). I hear cuts are in the works for my old company so I really doubt they will call me back (thank goodness). Commuting is such a time waster! Ugh! I notice the traffic on 287 heading north is getting more congested at times (I see the cars on my walks and am glad I'm not in it).

Angela, enjoy the quilting getaway. My sis and I was supposed to do one and never have gotten around to doing it. We are a split family with the phones, me and younger DS like android, DH and older DS like iPhone, so now the androids are winning in our house. I must do something with vacuuming as my shoulder/back are feeling a bit iffy (this is 2nd time this has happened), maybe I don't use good posture when vacuuming and use the left arm to move things (the bad arm--- heck, I'm just glad I can use my arm again, pre-surgery I couldn't even use the left arm to cover myself with a sheet, that's how bad it was). I will take heed to use less intensity on the TENS. It's just that it feels so good initially, it probably doesn't take much since I'm still building up that area.

Can't wait until we all are in Daytona! Hope we survive!

Hi ladies,

I was able to do the Back & Bicep disc this morning, sans single leg deadlifts! I feel pretty good about that. Still not yet 100% but much better.

I'm going to a HH tonight with some friends from my previous job. It should be fun. I'm not much of a drinker and I have 2 drink max. Usually I just stick to 1 drink and spend more time visiting!

It's gonna be tough to get in my steps today. I'll make up for it tomorrow though!

What's everyone else up to?
