Anyone else worried about STS...

being too much for their fitness level?

I looked at workout 1, Chest Shoulders and Biceps and there's 136 push ups in it! Yes, there are different variations, (wide, on the ball, staggered, boot camp style etc) and they are interspersed with other exercises, but STILL, 136 push ups in a 49 minute workout! Like I'll be able to actually do any other exercise in that workout. Crikey, I'll have DOMS for a year, assuming I don't injure myself.

I've read that STS was for all fitness levels and no preparation was required to get the most out it. I'm not a complete wimp but I'm not ready for a program like this, if this is Meso 1, workout 1. I know it's a Shock Training System, but I wasn't thinking "Taser level" shock --:D. I feel like I'm being asked to swim the English Channel the first day of swim lessons.

Plus, Meso 3 workouts for Back and Chest have NO push ups in them, because it's assumed that my chest strength will have expanded so much, that push ups will no longer work my chest to failure?! In 8 weeks? When I can't even do the first workout in its entirety?

Was P90X this intimidating in week 1? Anybody else second guessing their preorder?

Thats one of the reasons I havent preordered yet, and IT IS NOT GOOD FOR ME.. Im constantly thinking about it, its gettin anoying!

Im concerned about being to much upper body, my favorite part to work out is lower body, and Im thinking Im only buying STS for the lower body workout (especially plyo legs), I think Im also overspending on this... I already have to much workouts...

desicions, desicions!

I haven't ordered STS yet, but I've got my eye on it. I would approach it like any other workout ~ do your best and don't get hung up on how much you need to modify. 136 push ups just means there's tons of room to grow and improve. :)

I agree with Laughingwater. Do what you can. At the end of my last P90X rotation I was doing over 200 pushups in the Chest and Back w/o. Could I do that at the start- no. I just pushed myself a little more each time.

I think almost any weight workout can be used by all fitness levels. You just have to modify to fit your needs. JMO

I agree with Fit_Fairy and Laughing Water.

One of the best lessons I learned from P90X is "modify, modify, modify, if you have to".
(Hey, I think that a Tonyism!)

There are some exercises I just can't do because of some physical limitation. I modify!
You can always do something!

Thanks for the reassuring words.

I do understand that I can modify/omit when I reach my failure point and add a little each workout as I progress. (I don't think Cathe can see me, or hear me--LOL!) But, since I'll become the one deciding what to do and what not to do, haven't I just lost a lot of the value of a Cathe created system? Maybe I'll omit the wrong exercises? I almost think I should do Meso 3 Upper Body first, to build up my strength for what's expected in Meso 1 endurance. Then I've really thrown everything out of whack that Cathe's proposing.

Also, Fit Fairy, you said you could do 200 push ups at the end of P90X (which is seriously impressive, IMO!!), but how many were you expected to do week 1? That's really what I'm looking at.

Thanks again,

In P90X with the pushup sections you go to failure. So there was no number set specifically for you. Of course you saw what Tony and the crew were doing and could use that as a guide.

I understand what you are saying. Maybe the system isn't right for you, I don't know. I think STS has a lot of potential. As a matter of fact, I was thinking of doing it in 2 week cycles instead of 4 week cycles after my first go round. I think the best results will be to do the programme as prescribed, but sometimes changing it up a little is good too.

Heck, maybe even just get the mesocycle you like. Or if you preordered, just sell the ones you don't want.

I'm quite positive there will be parts of STS I won't be able to do the first time around, but I also know I can modify and still get results. What I love about the concept of it is that it will push me to test my limits. I need that right now!!

It may be hard for me too... but I like a challenge. I'd rather my workouts be a too hard than too easy. It gives me something to work up to.
If something is too easy for me I tend to not want to go harder but I get rid of it. I can tell that since STS is from Cathe and looking at the blog pics/info that STS will rock!
Like was stated if something really isn't for me though I'll sell that part.

Oh, me too Carol. A picture of one-legged squats with a paper plate comes to mind:confused:

I have never had any doubts about my order, and am so excited to get it here! When I get scared, I just look at the photos of Cathe and crew before, which looked really great to the afters, which were nothing short of amazing. As they were filming and posting pics, you could just watch their bodies evolve. I am ready for some of that :)

Just push pause and modify, modify, modify. It IS okay! I haven't pre-ordered yet, but I know I will. I'm just holding off because of the money $$$. After all there isn't a Cathe DVD that I own that I hate. I think this is why Cathe has this 1 rep max thing. There is no way in heck I'd be able to lift what she lifts.

Good question...and answers:). My concern is that after having had some surgery I am not to lift for 6 weeks and then I´m sure I need to start small. I´m planning on ordering STS before this pricing increase and figure that wherever I may be, it will take me from there to...who knows where :D

I agree with all the modifiers! I look forward to the challenge and pushing myself a bit harder each time around. I thrive on this sort of thing.

I am definitly taking before and after pics, because I will be losing post partum weight along with doing STS for the first time. I cannot wait!

Bring it on!

Maggie:)

Where did you guys find details on what exercises (and how many reps) are included and what the time for each workout is? Did I miss a post? :)

I understand how you feel but don't let the push-ups scare you. I was so intimidated when I first started P90X. In the beginning I'd pump out all I could do and wait for the crew to finish:mad: Each time I would challenge myself to do a few more than last time and by the end of the rotation I was doing 150 on my toes and 60 on my knees. As Tony would say, "Do your best and forget the rest".

I think STS will be the same way. Do what YOU can do and forget about the numbers. Challenge yourself to do just a few more each time and it will happen. Everyone will be lifting different weight loads and the numbers are based on your level. Remember...it is not a competition. Just do your best and be proud that you are working so hard!
