We're in This Together (March 2013)

Yesterdays WO were a 3 mile jog, then about 1/2 way through the day I did a short 10 minute WO I found on the internet called Melissa Benders fitness. Then after dinner I took a nice 2 mile walk.

Today was Omsi with TJ's class. So I got up in the morning and did hiit Pyramid.

Nat - Happy Birthday to Bella! 4 is such a good age. My kids love the Lego games too. Plus the little videos (spoofs) throughout the game are funny. They dont play to many games but we have all of the Indiana Jones Lego minifig games. But then again, my kids (all 3) love Lego and the minifigures. I felt slightly guilty, I hate Chuck E Cheese. I have only had to go there 2 times in three kids, thank The Lord.

Marie- I love when men go out of there way to surprise their wives. It really is a thoughtful gesture. I'll do the happy dance for your days off too. I am glad you are liking Meso 3. I am so undecided if I want to tackle STS again, the UB I agree are to long. But they work!

Colleen - Doms still, you did an awesome job if you are still feeling it. My silly husband says the same thing about oatmeal. He's goofy he went a got carnation instant breakfast as a sub when he doesn't have enough time. Those things are loaded with sugar! But it's still better than a Mountain Dew and Maple Bar from when he was 20.

Jen - They were just the factory tires, so nothing to special. But they are big because it's a SUV. I remember my little car being cheap to get new tires also. Aww, I miss those days. Glad you so on top of your move. You should be a move planner? They have wedding planners, business planners, party planners, why not moving planners? Makes since to a person like me, that has a family, moving is complicated when you move to a different state. Just a thought.

Sarah

Tony surprised know me with a trip to Duluth. 3 hours north of where we live. We are staying in a hotel on Lake Superior.

We took B swimming for the first time in a pool last night. We only went for ten minutes but he seemed to like it :)

Feeding time now then off to the workout room for me. Wish me luck. I'm planning to run on the treadmill. Haven't done that in forever plus I still have major DOMS from plyo legs on Wed.

Have a good day everyone :)

Have fun in Duluth Marie! :D I love it up there, although every time I've been up there it's always chilly...even in the summer!

No workout today. Tomorrow I was thinking of doing yoga...although it's been a few days since I got a really good sweat on so I might do Low Impact Hiit first and then yoga. I have tomorrow off and no plans until evening so I have all the time in the world! Tomorrow night we're having Mark's grandma (the one with Alzheimer's) and his cousin who takes care of her up for supper. :)

Have a great weekend ladies!

Marie - It's so nice to get away from all the distractions at home. Now you can just have a weekend with the guys that really matter. Have fun!

Colleen - Have a nice day off from working out. I felt little twinges of pain in my knee today so I am thinking I need to do less high impact. Oy Vay! I've never had to worry about this. I also am having swelling in my ankle again. I have decided the closer I get to 40, the longer it takes my body to recover. Even wounds don't heal as well as they used to.

Nat - I was thinking about you as I was speed walking yesterday. Do you worry about looking silly as you walk? Like doing lunges, skipping, galloping? I was thinking it would be a great idea for someone to come out with a walking video for Smart phones, that you did intervals of other things intermixed with the walking. But having music and video to go with it so you can see what the interval is.

Last night was a speed walk for 3 miles. This morning I did Ride and Yoga relax premix.

Sarah

Hello fit ladies!

My w/o yesterday was PLB . Ohhh the pain! I'm not a fan of using the barbell with step-ups because I just don't feel very secure (and my form is terrible!) so I used my heavy dumbbell's. The floor work is amazing . Did you guys know that Cathe does hip thrusts on the ball without a barbell in that one? MY.BUTT.IS.HURTING.TODAY.

Today's w/o was a 3 mile walk + GS Chest & Tri's. I also did 15min of this yoga: 10 Pound Slimdown Workouts ExerciseTV5 - YouTube. I really like Chris Freytag! I am eying her w/o's on Collage, but I know I'm going to get raped with shipping and duty fee's .

Sarah
When I walk in public, I don't speed walk. Not because I'm afraid of looking silly, but because I can't walk fast with Bella. If I'm alone, I walk briskly, but not as fast as when I walk indoor w/Leslie. I hate taking busy main streets though! I usually try to find side streets/back roads, that are not usually congested with cars. Oh, and no I won't do lunges or gallop in public . I do chase Bella around the park, but that's as far as I'll go. Great idea about the smart phone walking intervals app!
I'm loving your w/o's these past weeks . You MUST be losing inches, gaining muscle, and feeling great!

Colleen

Hope the dinner w/Mark's grandmother goes well :).
Are you watching House Of Cards on Netflix w/Kevin Spacey? OMG SO GOOD!!!! Mark and I are kinda bummed because we only have 2 episodes left for S1 :(.

Marie
I have no idea where Duluth is, but I am going to look up pics on Google :D. Have a wonderful time!

Time for dinner! Have a good evening ladies :)

Just got done with Muscle Max UB premix. It was really good. I didn't fell like anything was lacking. I agreed with what you said Nat, about STS Total Body lacking in tricep work. I really though all my muscles were fried by the end of about 40 minutes work. We will see what my muscles thought tomorrow. I did throw in some pull-ups to ; )

PLB sneeks up on me. I remember the first time nd was looking at he lighter weights thinking well I can do more. Boy oh boy, it put me in my place : )

I am losing lbs. and inches. But more import, I feel STRONG and kicking ass. I made it over hurdles like working out first thing when I get home after dropping the kids off at school. I hated it, it's tough still but when I get done I cross it off my "to do" list and it feels awesome!

Nat - I also though about doing Gym Styles premixes and seeing if I though they were well rounded. Even combining them into 1 UB day might work.

Sarah

Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps for me this morning. 68 minutes. I like Meso 3 but like everyone says the workouts are just way too long. The first 2 cycles I did cardio on my upper body days but for this cycle I'm not doing that and probably won't do cardio on lifting days from now on. I need to realize that even through I'm not sweating as much when lifting I'm still working out. I really don't need to be working out more than an hour a day anyways. I have more important things to do with my time. Anyways, that was my workout. I picked up a shift today so I'm at work right now taking a quick break. Tony gets off work at 8 and then we both have tomorrow off so I'm excited to spend time with my boys :) Our trip the past 2 days was really fun. After I finished my treadmill workout I went and sat in the rooftop hot tub for a bit. So relaxing! We took B swimming again that morning. He really likes it. Then we took a drive along the WI side of Lake Superior. Great day!

Sarah- That's so great that you're feeling stronger. Love that feeling! WTG with your workouts! Gotta love crossing them off your "to do" list. I'm a huge list person myself :)

Natty- Barbell with step-ups?! That sounds scary! Maybe that's why PLB is the only workout she has them in, that I know of anyways. I'm going to have to check out some of these You Tube workouts. You have such variety in your regimen. Love it!

Colleen- Hope you have a great workout today! Looking forward to seeing which UY you pull out. Duluth is always so chilly. We have thought of moving there but you're right, it's just so cold.

Jen- That's great that you're on the bottom unit. Better for the heat! It gets so hot in TX. My dad lives in Alamo. It's right on the border by South Padre Island. He loves it. He lives on a golf course and gets to go everyday. Hope the packing is going well!

Doing some much needed road therapy today. Hope to do personals tonight or tomorrow.
Marie. Your Dad isn't far from my brother who goes to Padre Island alot.

Jen - I hate driving, road therapy for me is being the passenger and dozing in and out of sleep while looking at the beautiful country side.

Marie - I do love the results I got from STS but they are soooo long. Glad your getting another day off with your family. I love the way you throughly enjoy your time with your "boys".

Todays's WO was a JM treadmill WO level 1. This kicked my but coming in at around 10 minutes doing 30 sec of 6.5 mph and 30 sec. on 5mph. My TM is stuck on an incline of 6, I could't keep up at 6.5, so I kept it around 6. Then I did a Melissa Bender Circuit for "No surgery tummy tuck". It was around 20 minutes. Then while I waited for my daughter at piano I took the dog on a nice leisurly stroll for 1/2 hour. Thats it, I'm done, Yippee, Hooray, tomorrow is rest day. Tonight is date night too! So looking forward to RELAXING. I am going to indulge but I AM NOT GOING TO OVER INDULGE. I'm trying to make this stick in my head.

Sarah

I had a post all typed up yesterday and BAM deleted . I wonder if SNM can do anything about the forum program so that does not happen?

Today I have my cousin's daughter's Baptism. It's going to be a very long day. We have a church mass at 1:00pm and then a celebration at a restaurant to follow. Before I had Bella, family "get-togethers" like this were always dreadful. Just picture it: 100-150 family/non-family member's stuck in one room. Some you liked, some you didn't. Part of the Italian custom/tradition means that you usually have to go up to the individual (if you know them, of course) and kiss them on the cheek (you do this right Marie?). I'm not a big drinker, but there were many times I would go to the hall/restaurant a little tipsy . It only takes a few shots and I'm good ;). Anyway, hopefully Bella will allow me to take some nice pics so I can show you guys!

BTW, that quickie breakfast I posted a few days ago, has been doing wonders for my digestive system ;). It fills you up nicely too. Highly recommended!

Marie
The Google pics of Duluth were beautiful :). My dream would be to the travel the world. I vow that before I turn 50, I will be touring Europe!
STS would be perfect if there were premixes! And yes, you don't need to do cardio on your lifting days. I was reading on BB.com that it can actually work against you if your goal is to build lean muscle mass.
Glad B loved the water :). I can just picture him smiling and having so much fun.

Sarah
Your treadmill w/o has me jealous! One day, one day...
Congrats on losing weight & inches, and feeling strong. I think working out provides so many benefits past "looking good", you know? The confidence and power you feel when you are physically fit cannot be compared.

Jen
Hope your road trip went well :).

Colleen
Hello :)

Hello Friends.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! A friend on FB told me that she'll be walking from bar to bar today in her town then climbing flights of stairs to her condo. Rough.

Marie. Never been to Duluth although my parents been through there on their way to Mayo via MI's UP to west/NW Lake Superior to MN. Way cool, B likes the water. It must've been cold up there?

Sarah. Date night. Very romantic and/or just spend time alone. Moderation is the key and portion sizes but some places it's almost impossible. Great workouts on the TM.

Natty. Enjoy your family get-together. Although not Italian, we were always told to go up to the individuals and wish them well or sympathy depending on the ocassion. Sounds like a very long day.

Colleen. We miss you. Hope life is treating you well.

Update:
No packing yesterday and it felt good to get away from the whole moving thing for one day.
Yes, driving is therapy for me. I drove to Kalamazoo to close the door on living in a city that has very low unemployment for MI/US averages. It was emotional day to shut the door on an area I liked plus my 'Friend" lived south of there. I rehashed a few interviews down there that the interviewees were downright rude. A person reaps what he/she sows and karma does catch up.
My property management company is coming in to clean/prep the house on the 10th. Basically, only have to book my cab to the airport on day of flight plus get my bedroom furniture picked up. Now, misc packing.
Truthfully, I've been scared about the move and if it's a mistake. Then, I'm reminded that I ran my course here for jobs and for relationships. God put it in my heart over one year ago. When I drove thru NRH, I knew that city is the place for me. My old college roommate, whom I haven't spoke to in years cause she came out about the time of my divorce and hit on me, asked me if I would keep my house for "just in case." I told her "No." There is no reason to come back except to my family.
So, thanks for letting me unload.

Hello girls!

Yesterday I wound up doing XTrain Low Impact Hiit and then UY Short and Sweet workout 2. I just had to get some sweat in before hitting the yoga! :D The Short and Sweet workouts move really fast! They are quite challenging just keeping up with his pace, at least without being familiar with the routine. Once I do these a few times it should go better. I think I liked the first workout on this disc better than the second, though.

Today, I think I might pull out Tonique Born to Move workout 1.2 (35 min) and then HoCo 101 January (30 minutes). If I'm still feeling good, I really want to get the 100 rep challenge hip thrusts in, too!

Last night was good with supper, although Mark's Grandma is getting harder and harder to converse with. She is constantly confused as to where she is and asks the same questions over and over. :( It's getting pretty rough for Katie (Mark's cousin). She takes care of Grandma and she's doing such a great job, but I worry it's going to eventually be too much for her. We just have to take it one day at a time, I guess.

Jen- I'm like Sarah with driving...I like to be the passenger. ;) I always hope that someday in my lifetime we will have cars that drive themselves! I hate driving. For me, it's a necessary evil. I get so frustrated with other drivers and stoplights and bad weather! Are you going to be putting your house up for sale, then? We just sold our duplex a few weeks ago...so we don't have to be landlords anymore! Whoo hoo! We were surprised at how quickly we got an offer. Hopefully you'll have good luck selling your house, too!

Natty- Good luck with the baptism today! Dealing with extended, large families is very stressful. My dad's side is very large and we aren't very close to most of them, so it tends to be overwhelming when everybody gets together. TBH, though, since my grandma is in the nursing home we all rarely get together anymore. The only time I see most of them is at funerals. :(

Here's a little tip for you to try next time you go to write your posts...I started doing this and it has helped tremendously with the lost post dilemma! After I write the message, I right click "select all" and then right click again "copy" before I hit submit reply. That way the message is temporarily saved in case something goes hinky when trying to post. I know one lady on VF who actually constructs her whole post in a word document, then copies and pastes the message in the window. That would be another way to help from losing posts. Nothing is more frustrating after going through all the time and effort of constructing a well thought out post then to have it disappear!!

Sarah- How did date night go? It is so hard not to over indulge at restaurants! Thank goodness Mark and I are too cheap to go often! lol

Marie- That's the point in STS where I got frustrated! I just cringed at the idea of 65 minutes devoted to just 2 or 3 muscle groups with the long rest periods in between. I know some people loved Meso 3, but I just like more variety in my lifting. I guess I'm a moderate lifter, where I like 12-16 reps of moderate weights with a variety of exercises. I just got bored otherwise...plus I think I was afraid to really go with my max weight with no one to spot me. Especially with chest work, I really underestimated the weight I could do because I was afraid of getting hurt doing it all by my lonesome! In any case, you don't have to worry about doing a little less cardio right now. You are in such great shape and remember it's just a few weeks! If you can stick with it, I bet you'll love the results!

Better get something useful done today! TTYL girls!

Date night was a no go : ( My niece didn't come to watch the kids until 3:30 which was really to late to head to Portland because it's an hour away. It would have left very little time to do anything other than dinner. So we decided to skip it. Then the girls were suppose to go to a slumber party, so I had DH take them. Turns out the party isn't until next week LOL, he was PO'd at me. So we stayed in for the night. I made steak and baked potatos for everyone. Although for myself I had roasted acoen squash witha brown sugar glaze on top and carmelized onions for on top of my steak. SO GOOD. Then for dessert I make chocolate volcano cakes witha scoop of vanilla ice cream. Again, SO GOOD.

The restaurant that my husband and I love is more of a gourmet restaurant so it's about quality over quanity and portion sizes are perfect.

Sarah

Getting near the end of packing. Not sure to keep a Braun Hand mixer, ceramic space heater plus a few other things. Found a way to pack my dumbells & medicine ball. Milk crates.
Will rent my home out. At least 2 foreclosures, 5 for sale & 1 known of back taxes. Guesstimate 5 for boxes. 20 limit. 3 ship UPS.

Yin yoga today for me. This one is holding stretches for 3-5 minutes. It was good and felt great for my hips. I ran 6 miles on the treadmill the other day and they were super tight from that. My body was there but my mind was not. I was super distracted. Tony is off today and him and B were upstairs playing. All I could think about was being with them. That being said I skipped the meditation today. But I'm glad I got the yoga in.

Lazy day over here today. We just woke up from a family nap. Haven't napped in ages but man did that feel nice. Not eating the healthiest today. Lasagna is in the oven oh boy! Yum!

B is 5 months today! Time flies!

Sarah- Sorry about date night but sounds like you had a yummy dinner nonetheless and and that dessert sounds to die for :)

Natty- Sorry about your post. So frustrating! Good idea though Colleen. I'll be doing that from now on. I had to laugh out loud when I read about the Italian tradition. Oh joy! We have huge family reunions every year. I'm so shy and of course hardly know anyone that goes except for my immediate family. Nothing like trying to make conversation with people that are family but you really have no clue who they are. Good to know about cardio and lifting. That makes me feel like I'm doing the right thing on only lifting on lift days. Thanks for posting that. I'm with you on touring the world. I so want to go to Italy one day!

Jen- Glad to hear the packing is coming to an end. You are almost there. Duluth was pretty chilly. We mostly hung inside though. Speaking of cold, Lake Superior is never warm enough to swim in. Some people do but I think they must have a few beers in them lol!

Colleen- Sorry to hear about Mark's grandma. That is really hard. I work with that population. Every shift we ask them if they know where they are and what year it is. So many have no idea or think it's the 1940's or something. It's really hard for families especially when they ask they same questions all the time. How nice of Katie for being her caretaker. That is a lot to take on. I'm with you on the lifting. I like variety! I'm determined to finish though. 3 more weeks. I'm really excited to start the 90 day XTrain rotation after that. I have to find a way to work in UY though.

Marie - B is so cute. I really love seeing pics. Although being able to hold him and play and make him laugh would be better. I did get to cuddle my 9 yr. boy yesterday morning. He got into bed with me while I was still waking up. It was nice. It reminded me that was how every morning started out. We would practice his L's. Up until he was 4 he would say " wobster" instead of "lobster". So every morning we would sit in bed and think of as many L words as we could and have him say them. He doesn't say wobster anymore except if I make a special request.

Jen - It's a good thing I dont plan on moving, packing all those weight would be such a pain. Good thinking on the milk crates. I was coveting a weight set on craigslist the other day with stands, oh they were beautiful.

Nat - Even though the treadmill is broken it still has a place in my WOs. Plus when we had another dog we would make him walk on it. It's just a cheap one, and extremely loud. But when I wear headphones it doesn't really matter. The kids play on it too. They run, walk, and use there remote cars on it.

Colleen - Tough job having to be the caretaker. That is my lot in life, since my parents are my neigbors. My mom is not shy either about saying she wants me to take care of her. Great WO's. I am going to end up getting the short and sweet yoga, just waiting for the right time.

Today I did Crossfire, I made it all the way through this time. I think for me this one is harder than TTM. This will be week 4, of the rotation that I was doing. I will change it up next week. I would like to do some TB weight WOs.

Sarah

Nat - I'm kind of excited. I just got done making my own recipe. I made peanut butter and banana protein cake. I entered all the ingredients into My Fitness Pal also. I came in at 200 cal. per serving which is high for how big the servings are but I used a lot of PB (I wanted a big PB taste). I used protein powder and egg white that I beat up and folded them in. I also used almond meal and oats that I toasted in a dry skillet for a more nutty taste. But what I really think I nailed was the texture was really good. I have some more tweaking to do for certain, because I already had 2 when I was suppose to have 1.

Sarah

Hope everyone had a green St.Patty's Day :D

Baptism went well. So much food! It was a 5-course meal for heaven's sake! Of course I had to indulge a bit (a lot ). Bella had had a great time playing with her cousin's -- all boys around the same age. I am kinda happy there were boys because she tends to get a bit "rough" when she plays. I know the boys can handle it, but little girls always walk away crying and complaining .

I tried to do some cardio today while Bella was awake. I did about 30min of Rhythmic Step, until she came and wanted "in" on the action . Can't really blame her though -- she is still only 4yrs old.

Oh and I forgot to mention I did Hiit Pyramid before I went to the church ceremony yesterday. Good thing I did too ;). Today I tried to back off the carbs since I ate A TON of them yesterday . I think I have enough carb reserves for a week! LOL :p

Sarah
You must share the recipe! I don't think 200cal is very high at all for a protein cake, actually. My afternoon snack is around 200-300cal, so that's perfect ;).
I want to convince my aunt & uncle to sell me their treadmill. Truth is, they never use it! I am going to see how much they want for it. It's not a very expensive, top of the line one, so they can't try to rip me off!
I love "quality" food as opposed to "quantity" food. Sometimes I am amazed at how big the portion sizes are at restaurants! I feel like saying "give me less, but make everything perfect. And that includes veggies that are cooked well -- not mushy!".

Colleen
Oy vay the butter fingers post deleter! I have copied/paste my post to Word before, but sometimes I get lazy . I also like to scroll down to see what everyone says, so I don't miss anything. Thanks for the tips though! I appreciate it :).
I'm sorry to hear about Mark's grandmother. I'm sure it is very hard for the entire family to see her like that. {{{hugs}}}

Marie
OMG B is the cutest baby in the world! I'm not kidding! Speaking of babies, there were SO many at the Baptism yesterday. I was talking to my cousin-in-law, who just has a baby girl in January. She already has a son (4). Anyway, she was telling me that her daughter is a psycho! Her words, not mine btw. I told her little baby girls are WAY harder than little boys! They are so much more high maintenance and demanding. Little baby boys are so relaxed and chill, it looks like. I doubt I will ever have another child, but I'm downright scared to have another like Bella! She was definitely not an easy baby by any means :(.

Jen
My aunt, uncle and cousin's just came back from driving to Florida! They boarded a cruise in Miami and spent 4 days at sail. Then they drove back! I think they are absolutely nuts for doing that! They got depressed seeing the palm tree's fade and the snow coming in.
You have done an amazing job getting your home/packing in order! I think it's a wise idea to rent your home out. Make sure you do strict background checks on the person who is renting your home! I'm sure you know that already, but I have see way too many people get "screwed" when renting their home/basement.
Oh yes, the bar to bar hopping thing ;). I have never seen the appeal for that, but hey if that's how you want to play it.

Sheesh, long post! have a good one ladies!
