Hello Everyone!
Ladylep, I'm glad to hear you're getting back on your feet. Sounds like your vacation took some of you out of commission for several days, which stinks! I did not know swimmer's ear was contagious per se, or could be cleared up with antibiotics. But, it's awesome that you're all on the mend...just in time to start school! Thanks for the lovely photos of your boys. They are all very handsome, bright-eyed and bushy tailed.
They radiate energy and enthusiasm, which is wonderful to see. Their texts for school look very interesting, and they look genuinely excited to start the school year. Your goals for the week for eating and exercising sound reasonable, and you certainly are dedicated. I admire that you restart and recommit to fitness and healthy eating every week. So many people give up if they have a bad day or two, but you set goals and soldier on. That is very inspiring to me.
Renee, congratulations on starting STS!! I think that first workout has a million pushups right out of the gate, if I remember correctly. If you're still having pain/discomfort in your neck, I hope you'll get that sorted out before you really get going on STS. Nothing like an injury to sideline your plans, and STS is pretty intense. I don't think doing it in a compromised state is going to serve you well in the long run...I honestly cannot say that doing STS and running is going to help you lose weight. I wish I could promise that to you, for sure, but I cannot. I think I've said this before, but for me, I had to change up my workouts completely to get different results. Lifting and cardio, Cathe-style was giving me good results for several years, but I reached a point where I just plateaued. I did STS when I was trying to break that plateau, my theory being that if I could add some muscle, I could increase my metabolism, since muscle burns more calories at rest than fat, and that was going to help me break through. Now, STS did help me get toned, for sure. I put on some muscle, but I did not lose any weight, and I did not get smaller. I just got more muscle. Our bodies adapt very quickly, which is why we need to cross-train and change it up. My body was used to these same general types of workouts, so even though I was increasing intensity, I was not changing anything mechanically. I needed to find totally different ways to move my body, so I started things like ART and Tonique, and Dream Body. I am still not as lean as I want to be, but I am getting leaner. My waist line is still shrinking, my legs are getting more defined, and my rear is shrinking. My arms are still not shrinking, though, but we'll see. I only started getting these changes when I started doing completely different types of exercise.
You can read the success stories from others who have done STS and there are a ton of ladies who lost weight, shrank down to new clothing sizes, and definitely came out of the program smaller and more defined. I hope that happens for you!! However, that was not my experience. All I know with 100% accuracy is what my experience has been. So, I cannot say what yours will be, I hope you are able to lose weight and get your weight down to where you want it to be. You may also not be eating enough. 1200 calories is not enough to sustain high activity and weight lifting. Your body may be in starvation mode. Now, I'm not a nutritionist, but even MFP will have you eat back your exercise calories, so you might want to just follow those guidelines and see what happens. There seems to be a strong consensus that an active woman needs to eat at least 1500 calories a day, and a lot of women that workout out a lot eat more and still lose weight. That depends on the person, though, and I'm still trying to find my perfect balance calorie-wise.
My last thought is that you might want to think more about inches than weight, though, since muscle weighs more. It is definitely possible to weigh the same and to be smaller. My weight does not change, but I do (SLOWLY) lose inches, and I've moved from weighing myself to measuring myself. The tape measure is absolute and does not lie.
I measured myself today, and my waist line is down two inches since June, but my weight is the same.
