Taking it to the Max-- June 2013 thru...

Hi all!!

Eva I won't use the alternate audio either. But yes I am so happy they are giving the option because it shows what kind of company they are!!

Katie are you going to be able to stop running around soon before school starts again?

Lady Lep I have not been tracking my food either lol I figure if I am eating a bunch of veggies and hardly anything else the scale would move by now. But nope it hasn't lol.

Melissa of course we are here when u need it! I am glad u enjoyed your company!

I did the peak fit test today! Tomorrow ill do the first cardio one on the calendar, I took measurements and I hope I can stick with it for at least four weeks I may add in some burn sets from xtrain for muscle building.

hi girls! bravo is finally over! super long day yesterday-- at the u of m by 9 for dress rehearsal and then gala at 2:30 w/reception following that. got home around 7:30 and walked bugsy-- henri doesn't like the heat. anyway, that was my rest day:p. today I did CF plus 20 minutes of core yoga from shiva rea. then we went out to brunch with a family from bravo that now is headed back to texas. I had vegan quinoa pancakes with apples, walnuts and coconut maple syrup-- good thing I worked out hard this morning! now I am going to run a few errands, but am looking forward to a quiet week!

renee-- what is the peak fit test? good job on your workouts and eating! sorry the scale isn't moving in the right direction!

Melissa-- glad you had a nice couple days! I think we deserve a break every once in a while! hoping your hip cooperates when you are back in the swing of things:D

hello eva and ladylep! hope you both are having a good weekend!

off to get some neglected stuff done!

Need to do some major damage control!!

I don't track for a week and only workout 4 days and I put on 6 pounds! I started tracking again today. Any recommendations on workout types/lengths, besides as long as possible and mix it up with cardio and wts. :)

Aside from Xtrain and TTM I have:
Hardcore Extreme
4Day Split
Rhythmic Step
Step Blast
Imax 2
Timesaver
Butt and Guts
Gym Styles Legs
Core Max
Muscle Max
KPC/Legs and Glutes (Fit TV version)
Travel Fit
STS Total Body
Low Impact Circuit
HiiT
Drill Max
Intensity
Body Max 2

Part of me wants to give up, part of me wants someone to tell me to do X workouts and eat this but the realistic part of me tells me to do what I can, when I can but keep tracking no matter what and keep exercising (even if it's only 15 min) at least 5 times a week. But I'd really like a framework/template of what workouts and what to eat with room for me to adjust when needed. But feeling very fat and frustrated. I'm up to 174.9 this morning!!! I think I should take my measurements tonight and religiously weigh daily and measure weekly. :( I don't know if I want to keep up with the Cardio and Weights rotation for XTrain. I like the idea of it, but I think I'm getting bored. I've never done the Timesaver workouts, but will they get me the results I want and fast? I also really like the Hardcore Extreme workouts, I could divide them up to make them the length I can do, but it's kind of a pain. What if I look at the MET values and calories burned and go for the max in 45 min or less? That also seems like a bunch of work.

Maybe a frame work of daily cardio and wts or 2 days wts and 2 days cardio and 1 day legs? I think I'm really all over the place!

I saw my sister today at our parents pool, I haven't seen her since last summer (she's only in Wilmington, but works and has 2 boys and we were supposed to see her over Christmas but we all had the stomach bug). She was wearing a bikini! Not fair! And she is 4 years older than me! I asked her what she did to workout, she says she runs 2-4 times a week and does P90X but skips the warm up and cool down as she says she just doesn't have the time. So it runs her about 40 min. She works out 5 times a week. Could I commit to 40 min 5x a week? I just don't know...

Katie-Bravo seems really neat! I bet you're exhausted! I don't know how you kept the workouts in! Great job!

Renee- at least you seem to be eating right! Maybe you've lost inches even though the scale hasn't moved?

Hi Melissa! Sorry to hear you are still in pain, but happy that you can do some kind of exercise.

Eva! So great that you've lost inches!! Does ART make you sweat? And how much time do you devote to exercise daily?

ladylep-- I am so sorry that things are not moving the way you want them to, and I know that feeling all too well!! I would be happy to try and come up with a rotation for you from your workouts when I get a chance to look at them this week. I do think that throwing in 2-3 HiiTs a week helps to burn tons of calories and rev things up which hopefully results in some weight loss. I have been doing lots of yoga lately, trying to stretch everything out, along with my HiiT, but have not taken any measurements. I am going to switch things around again now that I will actually have more time to work out again. I will let you know what I come up with, but am thinking sunday Hiit, Monday steady state cardio, Tuesday and Thursday weights, Wednesday another Hiit, Friday maybe circuit work. also I want to add in yoga most days, probably longer practices on Tuesday/Thursday. it is frustrating to have sisters that seem to melt all they eat away-- I have three of those, actually!

I am going to try and attach a link to my son's youtube channel, where many of the bravo performances are listed. I also have a link to nygel's trio, but need to find that some other time:

Alastair Witherspoon - YouTube

I hope that works!

will check in tomorrow,

katie

Greetings,
I hope you all had a good weekend. We were busy, and mine went by way too fast, unfortunately!

Melissa, welcome back! I am sending you some energy and willpower in regards to food know you can get back on track. Once you get some momentum, it gets a little easier every day!! :) I wonder if you could get on a schedule of having 4-5 clean eating days and then a cheat day/meal, if that would make it more bearable for you. The constant sense of deprivation is what can really make watching what you eat super depressing for people, but if you know you have an indulgence coming soon, it can make it easier to push through. I guess that works for me.

Ladylep, sounds like Katie is going to give you a good rotation, so I hope that works for you. I guess if I was you I'd work this problem backward. It does not sound like a rotation is the biggest need for you per se, it's more about figuring out how much time you can commit every day and then working out consistently. You have such limited time during your day, that a rotation with a lot of long workouts is simply not going to be a good match for you. How much time can you realistically set aside to workout out? Take that number and then pick a workout...as opposed to picking a workout first. And since you mostly do Cathe workouts, you'll probably have to stick to premixes, since an hour out of your day is almost non-existent. :) To your question, I spend about an hour every day weekday working out...but I don't have any kids! I do a long day on Saturday, for about 90 minutes or so...which I may divide into two. I also try to go for a walk after dinner 3 days a week. I work a schedule that allows me to come home and workout every day. However, I'm not going to be wearing any bikini's any time soon! Even though I workout, I am not skinny...I still need to figure out how to get rid of my last 10-15 pounds or so. Some of it is genetics, I think...and just coming to terms with what I can realistically achieve. However, I'm a size 8 now, down from a size 14, so I'm making some progress..but I would like to get down to a consistent size 6, which I cannot seem to get to. Since I do have some fat, I know I am still bigger than I probably need to be, even with all that exercise, and a relatively clean diet. I'm still plugging away, though. :) The ART workouts can definitely work up a sweat, but it's not like doing tabata or anything. They are more of a steady state cardio workout with some resistance training. My heart rate definitely stays within my training zone until we hit the floor for ab work.

Katie, congratulations on surviving Bravo! What do you guys have queued up next for the summer? Hopefully some down time! I think you mentioned some travel earlier this summer...Thanks for the youtube link, too!!

Renee, I'm looking forward to hearing about your PeakFit rotation. I was following the discussion on the OD board about that too. I need to revisit those workouts, I've hardly done them. I'm pretty obsessed with my ART workouts for the time being and am happy to see a little progress from those, finally.

hi girls! had a day full of appts today, but it seems quiet compared to the past four weeks! this morning I did low impact challenge premix 5-- the blast plus the bonus step routine. had never done the bonus before, and I do not like dancy step, so this was good and was a major sweatfest. I also did a 20 minute more daily energy flow with shiva rea. tomorrow will be yoga but I may also add in some upper body weights.:)

eva-- thanks for sharing your story. I seem to stay at one weight now, too, and wonder what the deal is. especially with all the running around in addition to workouts. I haven't weighed myself, so don't know for sure, but it seems like I stay about the same all the time. I do think being on the pill is a factor, as is my crummy sleep that I usually get which I know increases cortisol levels. anyway, some day I hope to be back where I was when I was just doing ashtanga and yoga teacher training-- but hope I can get there with other workouts in my routine!;) the weekend was short, wasn't it? hope the week goes by quickly for you. we are headed up to grand marais/north shore in mid august-- til then I am working tons to make up for time off during bravo.

ladylep-- I will try and look at your workouts tonight, though I think eva gave you some excellent advice. I do think that the TTM premixes of tabatas and your Hiit dvd would be great to throw in 2-3x a week for weight loss. maybe alternate that with a premix from some of your weight w/o's-- you could focus on upper body one day and lower body another? maybe ttm, upper body, hiit, lower body, then circuit or steady state the next day. do you aim to workout 5 days week? 6? I also agree with eva that our bodies get used to routines pretty quickly and that slows down results, so I think it is good to mix things up on a regular basis. :)

hello Melissa and renee! how are you guys?

it is hot here and getting hotter-- mid 90s tomorrow and Wednesday for sure, then maybe upper 80s, but the humidity is pretty intense out there. walked bugsy today and was dripping afterward.

hope everyone has a good evening!

katie

Eva I am an 8 too! Well dress pants are a 10 But my thing is I was a 3!!! but then kept having to go up every six months for three years it was like a train wreck I couldn't stop.
I did the fit test yesterday and I am actually sore today!!
I did the pure cardio today and I had sweat dripping off my nose!!! It didn't kill me cardio but I sweat more in this one then I did with say all out or even insanity!! Strange!! I can't understand how that happened! It was actually fun. Had some kickboxing in it and I felt like it was alot like my beloved hard strikes!! It seems to have some insanity moves and Cathe moves and I don't know it has the best of what I like. I will see tomorrow I do a different one! I am crossing my fingers that I love it!!

Katie the peak fit test is one of the workouts you do before in the middle and after doing these workouts called peak fit by Michelle Dozis, I may not be spelling it right. But the workouts so far are challenging but not kill me over! It is something I feel good about when I am done cause I can finish and I have to push myself but I can actually do it, all reps. So I feel good about it! Does that make since? Like I think I love HS cause I can do every rep every jump I can put my all into it and completed it, but like tabatacise I can't get three three tabatas without stoping all the time in between so I hate that workout! Love it does make me feel good because I don't ever see me being able to do them so I rarely do it! Lol maybe that means I should do it more lol. But for now peak fit is fun!!

Lady Lep Katie had a great idea the crossfire and ttm have short premixes! Evacuation right to about carving time to do the exercise! U sound so busy ALL the time! What time do you wake up? I was wondering what time you could get up to do a 30 minute cardio?

Melissa hi hope you are doing good!

Hi all,

Thanks for the encouragement. I was really hoping to do intensity premix with HiiT lo and boot camp and then 100 bicep challenge, giving me a 40-45 min workout. I planned to do while the rice was cooking. But I spent that time yelling at my kids :( and policing them to do what I had asked them to do a few hours prior to that. So frustrating. They are wonderful boys and sometimes they give me such attitude. :(

Yes, I guess I am busy all the time, but right now it's a good busy. :) This week I drop the 3 older boys off at baseball camp from 9-1, 10 min away. Today I saw the orthopedic doc in between (I have been bad about doing my exercises but my pain in my shoulder is all but gone and my elbow is mostly better too) and them home for lunch and pack up to pick the boys up. Little K fell asleep in the car so I didn't try to nap him until later. We ended up going to to the pool (in our development) for an hour or so. Then back home for a snack and then I put Little K down for a nap, but I fell asleep too, so no workout then. After that was Dinner, made lunches for tomorrow and marinated steak for tomorrow. And THEN! Thanks to Eva mentioning going for walks after dinner, I took Little K out for a bike ride. B was supposed to come too but ended up playing outside with friends instead. I went for 20 min and did some serious hills that got me huffing and puffing! I didn't get back until 8:30 and then after watering plants (my garden isn't doing well, 90+ degree day today and 4 more coming and I think I have a rabbit or something, all my tomatoes are gone. But my basil, thyme and oregano are doing great!) So after I put Little K to bed and showered it was 10 and then I had to do a handful of things before I sat down to respond to you all. :). I will be going to bed as soon as I finish here. Little K will wakes me early, and today was 4:40 but I refused to get up and stay up until 7:15. That may seem really busy, but it didn't feel that way.

Tomorrow I will wake up and do it all again. But tomorrow is a skin doc appt 5 min from where I drop off the older boys, hopefully some food shopping (3 stores very close to each other) and maybe take Little K to the pool depending on timing. Afternoons are nap (hopefully I stay awake to workout) dinner, prep for the next day and try to go to bed by 10:30/11. I need to do that if I'm going to try to workout in the morning.

I will see what I can do about finding an upper body workout that is 30 min or so. I think that is e timing I have to work with. I did create a spread sheet (I'm a geek) that has all the workouts including premixes I have with times, type of workout (cardio, wts, combo, legs or core) and met value. But I don't have XTrain or TTM on there yet. I ate better today and tracked. :) as for sizes, I'm an 8/10 and 5'9". Last summer I was a happy 8 and this summer my 8s are tight... :(

Off to bed!

Hi Eveyone,

Renee, I have never been a size three. I think I have always hovered between 8 and 12. Now, I am at 10. I think after I had kids, the whole size thing is strange because my weight/shape has shifted even if the size stays the same. I still need to measure myself.

Katie, Your month went fast for me! Haha. I'll bet you are glad to get your time back. Those pancakes sound delicious.

Eva, I am going to do,the 4 days clean and see how it goes, it certainly sounds better than 6 days clean.

Ladylep, I think you could definitely do well with only 40 min. a day. i understand how it is hard to fit in. As far as the binkini, I haven't worn one since my early 20's. I am more comfortable in a tankini. Also, looks wise, I see people heavier/flabbier than me and I don't see how they do it.

I did not walk yesterday. Walking was painful. My dad took us to see Despicable Me, it was nice to laugh out loud for a change.

Goal for today, eat clean, maybe walk.

Melissa

hi girls! what a sticky day it is here! I think 95 today and tomorrow with high dew points and heat advisories. anyway, wishing we had a house with central air right about now. this morning I have work early, but did back biceps and core from total body trisets and then the 108 prostration push up/upper body yoga workout from shiva rea. tomorrow I will crank out some hiit or cardio plus hopefully more yoga. I do notice that the muscles in my gut are more visible-- I have all my nice, stretchy skin from the kids on top-- lately. I am wondering if it isn't from CSS and AB-- the horizontal work on the discs done slowly like that really seems to make a difference and I know my endurance for the plank push ups in CF is better now-- can do all of them on my toes whereas I think I used to only do 8 and then drop to knees. I think I may have to stick with AB and CSS (oh and S&G, too) to keep that strength going-- much as I hate the music in those:p

Melissa-- good to hear from you! glad you got to the movies! that sounds fun. I am thinking the kids and I might try to go this week to get away from the heat. walking sounds good. give yourself time to heal and come back to things slowly. hoping I can eat clean, too-- not all the time, but at least most of it!

ladylep-- it sounds like you have your workouts organized great! I do think the premixes are the way to go for you. going for a bike ride totally counts as exercise, though, so you should still feel like you got a workout in! hope you have some time for yourself today!

renee-- those workouts sound interesting, though I probably will not buy any more dvds until at least after our trip. I spent so much at the u of m just for parking everyday that it was ridiculous-- and wasn't working as much. time to save up for awhile, which is a bummer, as I always like ordering new workouts-- was wanting some more shiva rea, but will wait for now. at least the new cathe dvds are already paid for! wonder when they are finishing up on those...?

hello eva! hope you are doing well!

alright, better get ready.

peace,

katie

Just got in Intensity Premix with lo HiiT and Boot camp!

Katie- What of my workouts are circuit? My guess is LIC because it's actually in the title. Is an interval workout the same thing? Would Super Cuts be one?

Hello Everyone,
Just a quick note from me to report my workout and to say hi. Today I did Peak Strength. It was so hot today and I did not want to work out, but I'm glad that I did. burned over 600 calories. That workout is pretty efficient without being deadly.

Ladylep, congrats on getting in your workout today! You persevered and I'm glad that you were able to meet your goal. :)

Melissa, I agree with Katie, maybe you just need to take it easy till your hip is 100%, or maybe you should check in with your chiro or PT? It's been several weeks and it seems like it's back where you started. I'm sorry to hear that. I am sending you some food willpower today!

Renee, I hope you are well. I thought about your friend today, the one who is moving there. Has she relocated and started her new job yet? What about the second job that you were interested in?

OK, I'm off to the store, gotta boogie.

Take care,
Eva

Lady Lep I think that is ahold question because I know circuits is ulster mate between weights and cardio but I get confused with interval, and HIT it all seems the same to me. Lol hope someone can tell us! You did good STS tb. I need to do intensity again I only done it two times!! I don't know y because I love it.

Eva my friend will be here Saturday and start her new job on Monday. I am suppose to put in my résumé there where she will be, but I am not sure yet. Thanks fir asking !
I also did peak strength! I was sweating on that! It was like a steady state sweat lol. It doesn't kill you but it is steady! Hard to explain but I like it. I used heavy weights this time then a few days ago. I knew the first time I did it I had to go lighter till I knew what to do. Man that tubing she has is stiff! Ouch

Gosh, you all are making me jealous with the workouts. Eva, 600 calories is awesome. Katie, congrats on the abs! We are having 90° temps too, but we do have ac. Ladylep and Renee you got in a lot of workouts too.

Anyhow, I walked a mile on treadmill at a very low speed. Eva, I do feel like I am regressing with the pain. I am going to keep walking slowly and see if it helps. I may go back to the chiro. I dread having to go to dr. For tests or pt. So, I will give it more time. I think it had been about a month. I figure an injury will take about 6-8 weeks to heal. I can't believe I was squatting 60 pounds a few weeks ago.

I did eat good today.

Talk to you tomorrow.

hi girls! ugh, it is hot here! 99 with the heat indexes:p. glad I got my workout in super early. today I did pyramid hiit, which really didn't feel so bad (for me, this one is way easier than 40/20 or CF/TTM). then I did some of shiva rea more daily energy-- about 30 minutes. I am *super sore*from yesterday and Monday. my tris are sore from Monday, I think, and my upper abs feel fried from that work on the ball yesterday-- I think the move where you do crunches on the ball with a dumbbell-- I used 8 lbs. I think I should try to use that dvd more since it clearly got to the places it was supposed to! my back is also sore and bis are a little.

ladylep-- yes, LIC is a circuit workout and renee is right that it alternates cardio with weights. do you have circuit blast? that is a nice, short but intense circuit workout. drillmax is another and the one that is a bonus on intensity is nice to add on to workouts. way to go on getting your workouts in!!

eva-- what a great calorie burn! especially when you didn't even feel like doing it! I need to check those dvds out:)

Melissa-- great job on eating clean and also for being active with walking. so sorry about your pain!! I hope it heals soon so you can be back to your normal routines. injuries are such a huge drag:(. I really feel for you, as I have had my share over the past year, too. hope it clears up without having to go to the dr.

renee-- great job on your workouts, too, and what good news for your friend! you haven't decided if you want to apply? good luck with the decision:). I am betting you would get it, if you want it!

alright, going to get moving. need to make my kombucha before it is roasting hot in here.

peace,
katie

Hi Renee,

I have not done a stretching dvd. I have cathe's stretch max. I have been doing specific stretches that target the painful area. I should try the dvd since I am not actively doing anything.

Katie, We have high heat today too. Like I said we have ac. I don't think I would do anything but sit and sweat if I didn't, so congrats on your workout.

Eating is good today so far, although it is early. I am REALLY going to eat less and eat better now that I have this stupid pain issue. So, hopefully we shall see if the adage 80% of fat loss and great abs are made in the kitchen (. or something like that).

I measured my waist and thigh, both up 1/2 inch. I am hoping it is water And not actual fat growth.

Hi Ladylep and Eva.

Melissa

Today was 3 and 1/2 miles I got it done 39 minutes I'm not sure if that's good or not my goal was not speed anyhow it was just distance I am trying to work up to 4 miles then I am hoping one day 5 miles. Twice a week. I'm not sure my foot with of will let me. I do good with my lungs hear and a good rhythm, it is my left foot that I feel a twinge in so I have to stop usually at three miles today I went further ! But I felt that twinge.

Melissa at least you are still doing something. So that is great! I hope your hip gets better soon!

Katie what one gave you sore abs? And tris? Was it low impact Tri sets?

Melissa-- I think what they say about eating is true! I think you will be fine. my sister had to take off 4 months due to an injury and she didn't gain, though she is crazy strict with food. my guess is you are feeling better in a week or two and you can come back reenergized:D it is so sweaty here that all I feel like eating is salad and fruit, so maybe this is a good thing!;)

renee-- yes! the total body trisets UB. I had not done that workout since sometime probably last year, and the ab exercise really fried me! it is the one where you lie back on the ball with your neck in the air and then do small crunches up with a dumbbell. super intense work in the upper abs! I am still so sore, you would not believe-- even after working out this morning and including the yoga. anyway, if you want DOMS, try it with the 8 lbs and you won't be disappointed I don't think!

going to make dinner.
