Strength in Numbers

Today was a running around day and a buffet. Tomorrow will be a full body workout since I missed a couple of them. Bad!

Julie Great job on CM and doing the scrambled premix to get those hover jumps out of the way earlier! I hope your busy weekend wasn't too bad and that Ozzie is doing well after her surgery. Today is the big day for getting the washing machine fixed, right? I sure hope they really fix it this time!

Pam,Great2 job on Sat. BM2, abs. Good going on those difficult side blanks. Rooting for Carl must have been a mix of excitement for Carl and enduring the nasty weather. Poor guy, not meeting your goal is disappointing, but he does have to remember the conditions he was under. 17 min in a 5 k to me, is wonderful. But I don't know any better. Sounds like you enjoyed your busy family rest day yesterday. Great job on this morning's Imax2. Yes, that photo is our son's house. It really is quite beautiful. But I have to tell ya, with all the rules we have to follow it will be nice to get back on our own. It's nice visiting, but there is nothing like home sweet home. Wow, going to Africa all by yourself is amazing. You are brave. I know you will enjoy your class and find some fun people.

Pam Great job on BM2! You are so good to stand out in the yucky weather to watch Carl run. Great job on Imax 2 despite being tired in the beginning. Today is the big day to hopefully get the washer fixed once and for all. They are supposed to come between 5:30 and 7:30 tonight!!!! Don’t they know I go to bed at 7!

Julie, You did deserve that rest day, glad to here you are taking them. That is such a good idea that you have been cooking in advance. With your busy life I'm sure it's worth it. That's a lot of cooking and preparing. Good for you! Great job on Sun. for doing chest triceps and this morning hamstrings and glutes. I know the collar on Ozzie is helping him. Sure though he doesn't like it. Poor little guy. He's so cute in his photo.

Take care everyone,

Janie

I am still around. I don't know what happened last week but I really didn't get a chance to get onto the computer the weekend was much the same . I have worked out but I can't remember everything that I did. Today was a BOSU workout, yesterday was yoga and an Ultimate Fitness workout by the place I took my PT training with. I did workout on Saturday but I can't remember what workout I did or the days before that . Everyone is doing well with your workouts and I am assuming Eunice will be back to join us soon.

Pam The TRX is great I bet you would love one. Leave notes around for DH to find that you want one for Christmas ;). So cool to get to go to South Africa. Do you know how long you will be there?

Julie Poor Ozzie looks so sad with the blow up collar. It is so hard to leave them overnight at the vets at least you would take Ozzie home the same day. I hope everything is fine with the biopsy.

Janie It is always fun bartering when you are in Mexico. They do have lots of nice things to buy. Enjoy your time in Vegas and spending time at the pool.

I will see about getting back into a regular posting routine. Have a great day everyone.

Cheryl

Julie WOW, you had one productive day on Saturday! 70 lunches is amazing. I bet it feels good knowing those are all ready for you now though! Great job on chest, triceps, hamstrings and glutes. It wasn't nearly as bad for us watching the runners as it was for the poor guys sliding around in the mud. Carl is going to go get some spikes before his next meet after that though. Well well well?? Is the washer all fixed? I sure hope so. I hope they didn't keep you up past your bedtime either!
Awww, poor Ozzie looks so sad with his cone collar on. Poor little guy! Give him a big hug for me!

Janie I hope you got all of your running around done and are ready for your full body workout today! Carl is pretty focused on his running so it was a big disappointment for him. He was convinced that if he had spikes he would've broken 17 minutes, so he's getting some before his meet on Saturday. I can't even imagine coming anywhere NEAR a 17 minute 5k, that's just a little over 5 1/2 min miles! It's too bad that they have so many strict rules at your son's house. While I understand the need for some rules, I think that the homeowners associations can really go overboard. I'm with you though, there is nothing like being at home. It turns out that my DH has a flight to India an hour after my flight leaves for Africa, so I guess we might get to go to the airport together :D

Cheryl So glad to see you! You must have had a busy week last week! That's funny that you can't remember your workouts, I know that feeling well! Glad to hear that you were able to get them in though. I think Eunice is back in the US, so hopefully we will hear from her soon! I'll be in S Africa just under a week. I get there Saturday night and leave Friday night.

This morning for me was step,Jump and Pump. I haven't done that one in awhile so it was a lot of fun. I hope everyone has a great day!
Pam

Last night the washer guy got to my house at 6:45 and took about :30 minutes to fix the washer. But I believe it is finally fixed! This morning I did the Low Impact Tabata premix from CrossFire and then did Yoga Relax. It really helped me warm up by doing the tabata first so I could get better stretching out of YR.

Janie Sounds like you had a good day with your running around and buffet but as you said, now it’s time to work, work (said in my best Cathe voice)! Just kidding, you deserve your rest days. I do love cooking a bunch of meals to freeze so I don’t have to worry about it during the week. It takes a lot of stress off me. No Ozzie is not a fan of the collar but he tolerates it. I would love to keep it on all the time because he is so cute with it on.

Cheryl Great job on keeping up with your workouts with your busy schedule. No problems not remembering what workout you did. Sometimes I can’t even remember what I wore the day before let alone what I did. Oh the Ultimate Fitness class sounds neat. Did you pick up any new moves? So far we haven’t heard back on the biopsy. I want to call but I am going to be patient and give it another day or two.

Pam Great job on SJP! That is a fun one. I think it might be the only time I enjoy dancey floor aerobics. Getting spikes would probably help in running in muddy terrain. Me not being a runner though that is my best guess that it would help. I do love having all my lunches ready to go and not having to worry about it and it only takes about 5 hours every few months to do. My washer is fixed and it only cut about 45 minutes out of my bedtime! Or appears to be … I will see on Saturday when I go to do laundry. That was the first time we put the collar on Ozzie, I think he thought he was being punished. Now he is better about getting it on but only for the treat he gets afterwards!

Have a wonderful day!

I'd like to join you. After a summer of skipping workouts I'm trying to be more consistant. I'm 43, vision impaired stay at home wife. I was a couch potato until about 6 years ago; I hated PE and sports in school but found at home workouts to be a great solution. Looking forward to getting to know you guys.

Julie, 70 lunches! wow, I'm impressed. I tend to lose things in the freezer, so I'm not that organized, but I am trying to plan ahead more. Ozzie is adorable.

I did Kettlebell Way 1. I used my new 20# for the single arm moves then dropped to the 15# for the abs. We had the heat on last night but I've got the windows open instead of turning on the AC. The high is supposed to be 70* but its already up to 74*. Since I'm already snuffly {its that time of year} I dusted the ceiling fans, which I try to do spring/fall before and after we use them. I have no idea how things that are moving constantly get dusty!

Today was a full body workout using free weight and machines. While I was on the machine for chest presses and not considering how much the bar weigh, I put on 60 pounds and started my presses. Got it off the tracks and went down to start my presses and couldn't get it back up again. I yelled "Somebody Help Me!" As soon as I yelled that I managed to put it into a lower track. I WAS USING 98 POUNDS! My O My was I embarrassed. Got everyone's attention anyway. Jeesh! I lowered the weight appropriately and continued with my presses.

Here's another Zentangle I was working on: It's called "Botanical Grafting".
404127507.jpg

Joey started the string for me. It was like a big "S" curve.

Cheryl, Great job on your continued workouts and today's BOSU workout. Also yesterday's yoga and Ultimate Fitness workout. I figured you would be a busy bee. Just check in when you can, but don't forget about us.;)

Pam, Great job on SJ&P. Spikes is a great idea for your son's meets. Next time.:) Not only the home owners associations, but our son as well. Little stinker. Can't put Rolly on couch pillows, when I clean up after myself, I'm suppose to use a special cleaner...Little things like that are annoying. That's nice you and him can at least get to the airport together.

Julie, Hurray! Washer fixed, check and only 30 min. Great job on this morning's LIT prem. from CF and yoga Relax. Thank you for the Cathe voice, I needed that. I'm eating really well today and feel energized. I think that is sooo so cool cooking many meals and using them during the week to save time. Good for you!

Penguin, Welcome to one of the best groups on these forums! You are among friends and knowledgeable women if you need any help at all. I'm looking forward getting to know you as well. Glad to see you wanting to be accountable.

I'm retired with my hubby, he's 74 and I'm 61. We do workout with Cathe most of time, but in oour case we are visiting and using the gym to complete our workouts. I love home workouts much better than the gym as well.

Great job on Kettlebell Way 1. Looks like you are using good poundage. Dust miraculously comes to my house too and our fans. Yuck.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Pam I thought Eunice would be back in the US by now. It will probably take her a while to get settled in again. So cool that you can go to the airport with DH. When you go to S Africa how many connections do you need to do? I know my brother had about 3 different connections when he went to Kenya. Hopefully you have enough time between flights so you don't miss one like he did coming home. Good job on SJP.

Julie Yeah your washer is finally fixed. I bet you are doing the happy dance right now. Good job on your Low Impact Tabata premix and YR. That was a great idea to do cardio first so you were warmed up to do the stretch. I did pick up a few new things in the fitness class. They said they would send out the class outline to anyone who wanted it so I made sure I asked for it. The waiting is so hard hopefully you don't have to wait too long for it.

Penguin Welcome to our check in. I hated PE and sports in school too but now I am a certified personal trainer. I found working out at home much nicer than going to a gym. I have been working out at home for about 20 years now. I started with Cathe back in about 1998. Good job on doing the Kettlebell Way 1. You were using really good weight too. It is amazing how dust will stick to just about anything.

Janie How scary about the chest presses. At least there were other people in the gym while you were there. Wow 98 pounds that is a lot of weight, oh well better to be embarrassed by yelling out than being squished by a barbell :D That is another cool zentangle that your are doing.

Today I did the Lower Body Express premix from Turbo Barre. I am feeling that workout in the butt right now. It was another beautiful day here, I can't believe that we haven't really had any rain since July. It gets quite cool now at night but it gets to the low 70s by the afternoon. It is suppose to be like this through the weekend which for us is our Thanksgiving long weekend. I guess I don't have an excuse now for not going out and raking up the leaves :(

Have a great day everyone.

Cheryl

So this is traditionally my early morning, but since we have Fall Break from Bible study I expected to be able to sleep late, but no, here I am wide awake!

Yesterday, I made some banana-oatmeal muffins for breakfasts this week. After I put the batter in the tins I realized I forgot to add the sugar, so I sprinkled a bit of brown sugar on top of each muffin and as it baked it created a crunchy top! I'll have to remember that, but I think I'd rather just put everything in the batter in the first place.

Cardio and a CS for today. My parents are taking me to lunch today.

Cheryl, I think I hated PE because I'm one of the least compeditive people, and at that time I was wearing the traditional bottle thick glasses so I couldn't see the stupid ball to hit or catch it. I keep trying to get Hubby involved in exercise because I thought it would be something we can do together.

Janie, great job on the 98lbs! I like your zentangles. Is that ink or graphite? I think I did more workouts in Sept than I did the whole summer, I blame the heat, but I think it was a combination of lazy and burnout.

Julie HOORAY! I'm so glad that your washer is working and he didn't even keep you up TOO far past your bedtime :p Great job on the LI Tabata from CF and Yoga Relax. I'm so proud of you for doing yoga, maybe you ill inspire me..... I like the floor part of SJP a lot better than the step part, which is unusual for me. It's funny what animals can stand if there is a treat involved isn't it?!

Penguin Welcome to our group, it's nice to 'meet' you! I'm with you, I was never into PE and was never good at any sports was always one of the last ones picked for teams. I found gym aerobics classes and loved them in my 20's and have been pretty consistent with exercising ever since. i started working out at home when my travel schedule made it difficult to go to the gym. That was probably 10+ years ago and I can't imagine haven't to drag myself to a gym to workout anymore. I am 51, married, have 3 step children, 2 cats that are our 'official' pets and 2 outdoor cats that have adopted us. You were mentioning the weather, where do you live? I live in North Carolina and after a few days of rain and storms we are back into some hot weather now. You just never know what you're going to get this time of year. Great job on Kettlebell Way 1, I have been interested in getting some kettelbells and kettlebell workouts but haven't so far. How do you like them? You wouldn't think that things that are constantly moving could get so dusty, but they sure do, don't they?!

Janie Great job on your full body workout. I have to tell you, I giggled when I read your story about the barbell . I know it must have been so scary for you at the time though. I was only able to laugh because you didn't get hurt at all. That would certainly wake you up! Another cool zentangle, I don't know where you get the inspiration. What are you going to do with them all? Oh my, your son has a lot of his own rules, uh oh! I agree, I would find that annoying. It's hard to just relax and enjoy yourself if you are worrying about all those little things!

Cheryl I was surprised that I only have 1 connection on the way to and from S Africa. I fly from here to Atlanta and then Atlanta direct to Johannesburg. That makes it a little bit better. I do only have 58 minutes in Atlanta between flights on the way over. It should be fine as long as we are on time, but if there is a delay it will be close. Atlanta is such a big airport too, so hopefully the gates aren't too far apart. Great job on the Lower Body Express premix from Turbo Barre. How is the toilet test coming today?! wow, no rain since July? We have been having a ton of rain which is really unusual. It's been hot the last few days (and nights) I like those cool evenings. it's great that it is going to be nice for your long weekend. Raking leaves doesn't sound like a very fun way to spend it though!

Penguin Don't you hate that when you want to sleep in and can't?! Our bodies become so programmed to getting up. Oh the crunchy top on your muffins sounds really good! yum! What is CS? Enjoy your lunch with your parents!

This morning for me was Rhythmic step, always so much fun! Now I need to get some work done. Have a great day ladies!

Pam

This morning I worked my back and biceps. I got a call from the vet today on Ozzie’s biopsy. They were able to remove the entire mast cell tumor which was confirmed to be low grade (I am still not sure if that means cancer and I forgot to ask). The vet said all of that is a good thing and we just need to watch for any new bumps that might show up.

Penguin Welcome! We would love to have you join us. The girls on here are fun, fabulous, and very supportive. I think you and I are probably a lot alike in that I hated PE and exercise when I was younger but now that I have DVDs and a home gym (of sorts), I love working out. Great job on your Kettlebell Way workout! I have thought about trying kettlebells but I am not sure where to begin. May I ask what kind of dog is in your picture? I am a big dog lover so I always enjoy hearing about them. Oh your muffins sound yummy, I love crunchy tops! Muffins are a great way to prepare ahead of time for several days of breakfast or snacks. If you find a way to get your DH involved in exercise, please let me know. I have been trying to get mine involved for years. Even bought P90X for him but he didn’t like it.

Janie Great job on your full body weight workout! That would be horribly scary to get in that kind of trouble! I am glad you were able to get out of it on your own. Seems like maybe no one moved fast enough to help you. Poor thing, I would be embarrassed as well so I don’t blame you one bit. I guess the bright side is that in a short while you won’t see those people ever again probably. And as Cheryl said, better to be embarrassed than squished. Love the new zentangle-especially the part that looks like 3 bumblebees.

Cheryl Great job on Lower Body Express premix from TB! Yes, I think I will be shedding tears of joy with each load of laundry this weekend. That is nice that they sent the outline of the class out to you. I can’t believe it hasn’t rained either for you guys since July. We have gotten rain now that the crops here are already dried up. Plus it is getting much cooler and darker earlier. Our temps are around 70 which would be great if it wasn’t rainy and dreary already. Waiting to hear about Ozzie’s biopsy was the hardest part but I am so relieved to hear that everything is ok now. Now we just have to get his stitches out on Monday.

Pam Great job on Rhythmic Step! I haven’t done that one in forever. I am starting to feel like I want to do cardio again after my several week hiatus. I am trying to ease my way back in though so it might be a few weeks before Rhythmic Step makes its way into my DVD player. I think it is the music in SJP’s floor section that makes me like the moves. I usually don’t pay attention to the music but when I do notice it, it really helps me get through the workout. I wonder if there was a treat involved with CCC, if I would tolerate it better! That would probably defeat the purpose of CCC though!

Have a great day!

Julie, very happy that the vet thinks its a good thing. April <--- is a lab/shepherd mix, we got her from the Hum Soc in 04, we think she was 2 yrs old then. She's getting a little grey around the muzzle but can still catch a squirrel if given the chance. I've tried various things over the years to get Hubby interested in exercise, he had an active job until about a year ago when he took a desk job, he did manage to lose weight but has put it back on again. A few weeks ago HE suggested that we take walks in the evening but that's as close as he's gotten to regular exercise.

Pam, I'm in Memphis, TN. We had a cold week, then it rained a week, now its cleared up but the weather is cooler. I bought 2 kbells 2 years ago {15 & 25#} along with some workouts but didn't really like them, most of the workouts I choose concentrated on the cardio with a light bell but that's not what I was interested in. I tried the kbells again at the beginning of this year, with better results. I don't have many workouts but the ones I like best are Anthony's Art of Strength series. I recently bought a 20 and 35# on sale but haven't used the 35 yet. If I had to go to a gym I wouldn't workout, first I can't drive due to my vision, second I've used the 'I don't want to put on shoes' excuse to skip workout; I can't imagine having to get dressed, and go somewhere else. I workout in my living room so I have to get everything out and put it away afterwards, so a gym would be very nice to have everything out and waiting for me.

A little background we heard that the company Hubby works for announcned to all the other branches that they are closing the branch here in Memphis. Two weeks later they finally had a meeting here to tell us what's going on. The meeting at Hubby's work went better than we expected. The are saying the hanger will close in January {which is better than the previous 'before Dec'}, but they are still closing. Since Hubby has seniority he may be able to transfer to 'the line' to at least keep a paycheck coming in past January.

I checked out a bunch of recipe books at the library to keep me busy next week when Hubby is out of town {again}; it seems every Fall I get interested in cooking again. After getting this weeks bread dough going this morning I got it formed into loaves to rise then bake off later.

I keep the AC set at 78 in the summer, right now its 75 in the house with the fans going but it feels hot. Perception is a funny thing.

I did Classical Stretch 609 ~ Shoulders & Stress Relief, then added on the cardio portion from Cathe's Slide and Glide. I have such fun with that one, today was the first time I didn't have to stop and put the 'cover' back on my disc because it had come off, however I did almost send one flying across the room, lol.

My bread turned out really well today but I'm not sure what I did differently.

Tonight was my very first Zumba class. I LOVED IT! SO MUCH FUN! One hour and hope I burned some calories. All my new clothes still fit me, so I guess I haven't gained any pounds. Yea! Tomorrow is another weight day, I think I'll go in when there isn't any one there. LOL:eek:. I'll be OK, now that I learned how to not get squished. LOL:) Thank you for supporting my habit of zentangles. Makes me feel good about it.

Cheryl, Great job on LBE prem. from TB. If I remember I did get DOM's in the butt from that one as well. It's good. Very warm and sunny here, I'll think of it as our long Indian Summer. Between you and me though, I miss our weather in the Pacific NW. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving this weekend. Enjoy your yard work, and maybe burning those extra calories.

Penquin, Hmmmm the banana-oatmeal muffins for breakfast sounds so yummy and healthy. Great job n CS today and hope you enjoyed your family lunch. I'm drawing with an ink pen with the zentangles. Very proud of you for doing more workouts this month. Means you are serious.;)

Pam, I'm giggling now as well, but you are right, at the time it sure was scary. Joey and I are having fun with that one. LOL:D I don't know what I'll do with all the zentangles, just put them away for now. I'll frame a couple in such a way that I can replace them anytime with others. Hopefully I'll see all of them during the year. It's a plan anyway. When the kids get home we will have a birthday cake for Dan and the next day we'll be leaving for Utah for a couple of weeks. We'll be searching for dinosaur fossils, petrified wood, agates, biking, hiking... Then homes sweet homes:D Great job on RS, yep it is so much fun.

Julie, Great job on back and biceps. What a relief for Ozzie. Sounds like excellent news. Yea! During that embarrassing chest press people all around me moved very fast, just I was a little faster. Whew! LOL:D It's OK now that I'm not hurt.

Penquin, I guess The company telling you all (that they are closing the branch) is protocol/policy. Should have done it sooner if I were them though. I hope your honey can transfer to "the line" and have a paycheck coming for a little while longer. Does he have any prospects?

Are you making sourdough bread? I have lots and lots of dried cultures if you want any and if you do sourdough. Just let me know.

Great job on Classical Stretch 609, shoulders and Stress Relief. I'll have to look that one up. Never heard of it. Also great job on the cardio portion of S&G. It is a fun workout.

Take care ladies and enjoy your evenings,

Janie

this is my second early morning of the week that I could sleep late but I was up by 7am, my alarm was set for 8am. I need to start a list of workouts I can't do back to back; Slide and Glide after kbells had set my quads and outer thighs on fire! I was planning on Muscle Max but maybe I'll try just UB. Nothing much planned for today, laundry, cleaning and other fun things.

Janie, I appreciated the offer. The recipe is called sourdough but I never really considered it what I think of sourdough, without changing the recipe it comes out soft crust, fluffy and rather sweet. I, of course, changed the recipe:p. Dad had heart surgery for a leaky valve last year and we are all trying to eat better so I made it whole wheat, cut out fat, and added things like flaxseed. Kudos to you for using ink, I took art classes but was never good with anything besides pencil. I took painting in collage, and the poor prof helped as much as he could be I was just terrible. Glad you enjoyed the Zumba. When the rumors about 'work' closing started Hubby got his resume re-written, he's worked for the airline for 14 year and done a lot of different jobs so he should be able to find something soon. Classical Stretch is a Canadian TV show, the lead is a PT who used to ballet dance. Her workouts are a mix of tai chi, barre/ballet exercises, and active stretching to develop range of motion.

me again.

I ended up doing UB from Cathe's TB Trisets. I had written down this one as 40min but it ended up being 55. I thought it was almost over and Cathe annouces the second half! I used everything from my 3's-15's. Hubby said he wanted to go for a walk later so hopefully that will help thaw out my legs.

Hubby is coming home with a new-to-us car. He sold his Tarus for $300 to a friend and is coming home with a Jetta also for $300. I should prehaps point out that both cars run are the same age, but the Jetta is in better shape. I haven't seen it yet in person, but he's promised me a ride tonight. ;)

This morning I worked my shoulders and then did the plyo tabata from CrossFire. I thought I was going to have to stop early because my stomach started hurting but then it went away just as fast as it came. Weird. We just had a fire drill here at work. I’m glad it was today with the temps in the high 60s and not tomorrow when it is supposed to barely make it to the mid-50s.

Penguin April is so cute. It’s so sad when they start to get grey. Baking in the Fall and Winter just seems so natural and the right thing to do. Having that oven going and the wonderful smells is just part of the season I think. Great job on CS and S&G cardio! I don’t think I have ever sent a disc flying but I certainly cannot for the life of me figure out how Cathe and crew stay in the same spot instead of sliding across the room on some of the moves. Sorry to hear about your DH’s job. I guess there is good news if he can get a transfer to keep some money coming in. I’ll keep you guys in my thoughts to get through this time. Sticking to UB Muscle Max sounds like a good plan. Seems like you worked your legs out pretty good the last couple of days.

Janie Great job on your Zumba class! Zumba sounds like fun but I have two left feet that don’t cooperate. I think I would have to try it at home before braving an audience. I’ve heard Zumba is a great calorie burner so I am sure you burned more than enough calories. I like the idea of switching out the zentangles you frame throughout the year.

Have a great day!

Today was messing around in some of the casinos. Looked at Prius (car) and going to the souvenir job again. Joy won $150 dollars! We are way ahead now and won't be gambling any more. So cool and very lucky. Did Cardio yoga today, it was a challenge since it's been a very long time doing one. Felt good though.

Penquin, Great job on UB from TB trisets and the thawing out leg walk. Good for you. Enjoy your trade in car. Sounds like a good deal. Let us know how you like it.

Julie, Great job on shoulders and plyo tabata from CF. Wonder what happen to you tummy to do that. hmmmmm. Glad it passed. When I was doing the Zumpa class, I can see why it would burn lots of calories. :)

Take care everyone,

Janie

Well, I got my ride in the car. It is small, cramped, has those weird double seatbelts from the 90's, and every time Hubby shifts he elbows me, but its nicer than the one we had.

I'm snuffling and sneezing, but I think its just allergies/season change.

Julie, weird about the stomach but glad it stopped. I like the Tabatas from Crossfire, I've had it a few weeks now and have only done the Triple Tabatas premix several times, I'll have to try the rest at some point. I tend to move around the floor also as I'm gliding. Practice, maybe?

Janie, wow on the win!
