Strength in Numbers

This morning was quads and calves. I am getting more comfortable with my squat rack. I realized I was using it wrong last week. I was basically using it backwards last week which made it much harder to rack and unrack the bar. I’m telling you I need a new brain!!

Janie That’s cool about the new jeans. Are these the ones? So sad about not being able to go to the beach house until November but you will have so much fun in Vegas and Utah. Maybe the car ride will give you time to do some massaging and resting of your quad to help it heal up even faster. Sounds like you will be getting a nice little workout with all the packing. ;) Drive safe, catch up with us when you can.

Pam Great job on CF! Sounds like much more fun than a 40 minute run and 400 walking lunges (ouch!). Oh I totally forgot about those horrid split leg crunches in 4DS Kickbox. Hmm … that may make me rethink whether I would rather do LBB! :D

Have a great day!

Julie Great job on quads and calves. That is so funny that you were using your squat rack backwards. I'm glad that you've got it figured out now! :p It was funny when i did 4DS kickbox and got through the first round of the split leg crunches I thought to myself 'that wasn't so bad this time'. I forgot that we had to do a second round of them  At least the second round is shorter. It was still better than doing LBB again.

This morning was disc 29 plyo legs. I used to think those plyo leg workouts were so tough, but now I don't find them too bad. I think that's because the newer workouts are all so much harder. Plus you get lots of breaks in plyo legs. I was getting close to the end and getting happy thinking this must be the disc with no 1/2 turn jumps, but of course as soon as I started thinking that, there they were. Oh well, I survived them. DH picked up Ashley at school yesterday and they drove up to Pittsburgh for the Pitt-Virginia Tech football game today. Doug and his brother both went to Pitt and his two brothers met them in Pittsburgh for the game so I'm solo this weekend. Now it's time for laundry and errands. Have a great weekend everyone!

Pam

Janie Good job on your walk on the beach with Rolly. Don't worry so much about what the scale says. You could have gain muscle which would make your weight go up a bit. I would go more with how your clothes fit. Your zentangle is great and so is the name for it. I hope your quad is feeling better. Did you make sure you did a through warm up before doing your sprints? Sorry that you have to leave your beach house. Have fun in Vegas hopefully you can use the gym. So cool that you found the pants that Cathe has on in her FB picture.

Pam Don't worry I will give you guys a deal on my services ;). It was hard getting back into the work routine. Only 32 more months until retirement (not that I am counting :D). The DVDs that you have with your BOSU probably are the same ones that I have. I did the ab one on Thursday and the music was the same that Cathe had in some of her older workouts. Good job on Tracy's High Intensity step mix. You don't want to do the same workout so close together, it can get a bit boring. Good job on 4DS kickbox. That rotation that you are doing was hard because unless you had a lot of time to get both workouts done at the same time it was hard to do one in the morning and one in the evening. Good job on Crossfire and disc 29 plyo legs.

Julie Congratulations on busting through your plateau on your standing barbell overhead press. So did you have a goofy smile on your face all day long? I agree that most workouts just seem so so after doing Cathe's for so long though I did get some ideas on how to use the BOSU. Good job on your back and tricep workout. Good job on quads and calves, oops at least you realized that you were using it backwards.

Wow getting back into that work thing was really hard this week. I didn't realize that I hadn't posted since Tuesday, there were a couple of days I didn't even get onto the computer. Well Wednesday I did CrossFire, Thursday was 1/2 of BOSU ab work and today was LBB without the cardio blast. I tried LBB using my BOSU instead of the high step and it worked out pretty good. After that is was housework and some yard work.

Have a great day everyone.

Cheryl

Cheryl It sounds like we are on the same schedule for retirement, I think my countdown is 33 months! I haven't tried any of the dvds that came with the BOSU. I got to pick an extra one from a list and picked one of Mindy Mylrea's since I like her other workouts. I wasn't crazy about her BOSU one though. Yea, there is no way I have 2 hours to work out most days, so the doubles usually just don't work for me.
Great job on Crossfire, BOSU abs and LBB. That sounds interesting using your BOSU instead of the high step!

Yesterday was supposed to be High Step Training and Butts and Guts. I did HST and the abs from High Step Challenge. Then it was laundry, packing, grocery shopping. I am also taking over my mom's finances for her, so I spent some time trying to get as much of that done as I could so I wouldn't worry about it while I'm gone this week. The flight to London wasn't too bad. We have a direct flight from Raleigh which helps. I did get some sleep on the plane and then slept for about 2 hours once I got here. Tonight we have a meeting for the speakers and then a reception. I'm getting worried about whether my computers are set up ok for my lab on Wednesday so am anxious to get a chance to check them out. Hopefully that will be tonight. Janie, Julie and Eunice, I hope you are all doing well!

Pam

Well this weekend was busy, busy. Saturday I had to take my laundry to my parents again (argh:mad:). After that, I ran some errands and did a few chores around the house. That night DH and I went to my sisters for a cookout and bonfire. Sunday morning I worked chest and biceps and then did the low impact tabata from CF. I didn’t get abs in because DH and I had to go to my parents to help them close their pool down for the winter. This morning was hamstrings and glutes.

Pam Great job on plyo legs, disc 29! That is great that plyo legs is feeling easier. Maybe one day you will say CCC is getting easier! ;) The second round of those split leg crunches being shorter is nice of Cathe but I still think she is mean for doing a second round at all. Great job on HST and the abs from HSC! I’m glad you got everything done before leaving and had a direct flight (how wonderful!). Good luck on your presentations. I bet you’ll be smashing!

Cheryl Great job on CF on Wed. and Bosu ab work and LBB on Thurs.! Oh that would be a neat way to mix up LBB by doing it with the BOSU. I can understand about not getting on the computer after work. I am thankful I have a few minutes during work to get on the forum and check in with you; otherwise, it probably wouldn’t happen. After being on a computer all day at work, the last thing I want to do is go home and get on my computer.

Pam/Cheryl Hey, it looks like I am on the same retirement schedule too. Oh wait … I have 33 years left not months. Sorry, had to joke about that, it’s the only way I stay sane about thinking how I have more years left to work than I have been alive. :p:confused::(

Have a wonderful day!

Pam I am really looking forward to retirement. Work is getting in the way of doing things that I want to do. Two hours is a lot of time to workout especially when you work all day too. You are smart just to pick one of the workouts to do. Good job on HSC and all of your laundry, packing a grocery shopping. Enjoy your trip to London, don't worry about your computers I am sure everything will go fine.

Julie You sure did have a busy weekend. Do you know when you are going to get your washer fixed. What I pain not to have your own washer. Good job on your chest and biceps low impact tabata and your hamstring and glute work. I thought I would try the BOSU for LLB and it worked pretty good. I don't know if I would want to use it if I did the cardio blast though. Our internet usage is monitored so I try to not do much personal stuff when I am at work so I have to wait until I get home. LOL that you are on the same retirement schedule. Don't worry it will go by fast and you will wonder where the time went. I have been working for 33 years so I started before you were even born .

So yesterday was yoga and today I did TBT Upper Body. Wow it had been a while since I had done that one.

Have a great day everyone.

Cheryl

We are now in Vegas. So glad we can just sit still. LOL Today was a get acquainted day do's and don'ts... It might be that I won't be able to use the gym because we don't live here. Their rule is no one in the gym without the owner with them. They have many rules here. But, I came prepared. My son has an extra TV and DVD player and I brought some of Cathe's workouts with me. He has (2) 5 pound weight, but also has a contraption that has 10-30 or so pounds. But I just realized that I only saw one. Hmmm. Now I don't know how this is going to work. Hopefully I can figure it all out tomorrow. Also not eating the way I'd like, but eating horribly either and no scales to check if I'm gaining. Once the kids get going, we'll do our normal thing. They will be leaving early Thursday morning to get married in Ireland. Sounds so romantic doesn't it? I know they will have a wonderful time even without us. We're here to take care of their house and pets. Can't afford to go to Ireland though.
Pam, Great job on HST and abs from HSC. Also the chores. I can't believe you are in London. How cool is that? Enjoy the meeting with the speakers and at the reception. How are the computer, all set up like they are suppose to be?

Julie
, Wow, still a laundry problem. So sorry to hear about that. The cookout and bonfire sounds like so much fun! Great job on Sun. Chest and biceps and then Low impact tabata from CF. Also great job on this mornings hamstrings and glutes.

Cheryl, Great job on yesterday's yoga and today's TBT Upper Body. Sounds like everything is fine, that's good.

Take care,

Janie

This morning was sleep in Tuesday. Last night, we had the washer guy come out around 5:45 to work on the washer. He fixed one part and another code flashed and he has no idea what is wrong with it. He is supposed to call tech support and/or whirlpool today and find out what the next steps are. The maintenance guy was telling me that I really should have a surge protector on my washer because power surges can fry the electrical components in the washer. I have surge protectors on my tvs and computers but who would have thought to put one on my washer. Guess I’ll be buying one for that now.

Cheryl Great job on yoga and TBT Upper Body! That one is tough with all the different pushups. I have no idea when my washer will be fixed. It is so frustrating having to haul all my laundry down to my parents and stay there for 5 hours just to get it all done. If I was home, at least I could be cleaning or doing other household chores. Oh well, I can’t complain too much since at least I don’t have to use a Laundromat. Yes using the BOSU for the cardio blasts in LBB may be a little scary. I could definitely see me twisting an ankle. Haha! I am trying not to wish my life away hoping retirement gets here soon and I am really happy for you and Pam to be so close. It will certainly free up so much of your time.

Janie Glad you made it to Vegas safely. I am sure you will do just fine with figuring out how to work out. You are very creative. It’s too bad they can’t talk to the property owner and get a waiver or something for the gym though. I bet the wedding in Ireland will be very lovely. How many pets does your soon have? Did you bring Rolly or your kitties with you?

Pam I hope your trip is going well.

Have a great day!

Good news! We get to use the gym without the owner being there. We are so very happy about this. Tomorrow is a split workout (haven't decided what yet) and will be 4 sets with 8 reps as heavy as I can lift. I'm think legs, need them so desperately. It's a happy day. We went to the Rio today and lost $25.00 but it took hours to do that. LoL. Had fun. I also bought two black and white Mardi gras masks so when I frame a couple of my zentangle drawings, the masks can be next to the them. Should look very unique. Went to their Buffet and ate all Paleo, very proud of ourselves.

Julie, Great job on your rest day and was able to sleep in. Yep, I think surge protectors are a good thing. You never know. Hope you get your washing machine all figured out. Must be so irritating for you.

Oh, the wedding isn't in Ireland, it's in Italy, Rome. Sorry about that. They have two cats and a huge house to watch after and that will be our gift to them since they have everything you could possibly want. We did bring Rolly and Higgen. Both are happy and doing very well considering our two and half day trip. Love the road trip this time. It didn't involve hotels, (which I can't stand) we are using our camper and worked out beautifully.

Take care, will talk again later.

Janie

This morning I worked shoulders and then did the plyo tabata from CrossFire. I like that tabata especially the turning plunge lunges. Today my department is having a picnic. So I get to work ½ a day and then go to company park and have a picnic for the other half. We usually play games so it should be interesting.

Janie Oh yea!!! I am so glad you get to use the gym without the owner being there. I’m sure you will have a blast playing with all the gym equipment. You are so good sticking to your Paleo while at a buffet. Haha! I’ve never gambled but if I did I would stick to losing small amounts of money like $25 only. :p Oh I bet that would look really neat to have the masks up next to your zentangle. Glad you trip went well. It is so much better to stay in your own place than a hotel. I have always wanted to go to Rome, well all of Italy and Greece really. So much history. Enjoy your time house sitting.

Pam/Eunice/Cheryl – Hope you are all having fun!

Have a wonderful day!

This morning Joey, Rolly and I speed walked about a half hour. Then had breakfast, waited 2 hours and went to the gym. O my, I worked my legs hard. The curls were 30 pounds, 4 times at 8 reps. The presses were 70 pounds, 4 times at 8 reps... also used the free weight to do lunges and squats. Would have used the squat machine but didn't know who to ask to get the heavy weight off it so I could use it. Oh well, next time, we'll be here awhile. Did some abs work on the machine and on the floor. Also did some balancing on those little cushion thingys. LOL Boy do they work. I'm going to buy me one for at home. All in all, I was pleased what the gym have. Maybe I'll get DOM's. We'll see. We will be eating dinner tonight at a vegan restaurant with my son and and fiancee. Can't wait! Right now I'll have a Paleo lunch with a salad. Yummmmmy.

Julie, Great job on this morning's shoulders and the plyo tabata from CF. I did turning lunches too, really good on the butt muscles. Your Co. picnic sounds like so much fun. When I use to work ours did that once a year and I remember having fun at them.

I'm the one that usually doesn't gamble. It's Joe that does that. I would rather buy things interesting and be able to have something in my hands. Losing is not my thing and that's what happens to me all the time. Don't like it. Joey is being entertained and that's good especially when it takes him hours to spend $25.00 dollars.LOL Can't really complain.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Janie Glad that you made it to Vegas. Too bad you can't go to your son's wedding in Italy. Does his fiancee has family in Italy? So nice that you can use the gym, it will make things easier for you. Does Higgins get along with your son's cats? Good job on your speed walking and your leg workout. Way to go on your balancing on those little cushion thingys .

Julie I wouldn't have thought about a surge protector either for my washer. Hopefully they will be able to figure out what is wrong with it. Retirement will free up a lot of time. Don't worry it will be here before you know it for you and you will wonder where all the time went. Good job on your shoulder work and the plyo tabata. Enjoy your picnic today.

Yesterday I was going to workout when I got home but time got away from me so I didn't get it in or get a chance to check in here. I did manage to do Hiit 30/30 this morning. The weather here has been hot though you can feel the coolness in the air. We are going to have one more BBQ with the neighbours on Friday before the weather gets bad.

Have a great day everyone.

Cheryl

This morning I worked back and triceps. I felt pretty strong with my triceps work this morning. Funny how sometimes you feel strong and other times you feel so weak.

Janie Great job on your speed walk plus all that heavy lifting at the gym! I see DOMS in your future. Oh the vegan restaurant sounds good. Do let us know what you are ate. That is good that Joey enjoys gambling but is good about limiting his loses. $25 for a few hours of entertainment every once in a while is probably worth it but I am like you and would rather have something tangible to hold or look at.

Cheryl Great job on 30/30! Our weather turned cool fast. It is only in the low 70s now which is weird to think that only a month ago we were in the 90s. It makes me sad to walk into work in the mornings and be freezing already. Winter is sadly on its way although I guess on the bright side we have to make it through Fall first.

Have a wonderful day!

Just wanted to thank Janie for the invite to this group! I hope you all have room for one more! :) I'm not sure I'll have a whole lot of time to come post (I'm a homeschool mom :p), but I would love the support! I'm fairly new to Cathe's workouts..... just completed my first round of STS! LOVED it! :) I'll be back to share some more about myself. Look forward to getting to know you all!

~Amy

Today Joey and I went second handing. So much fun because Vegas has a lot of good stuff! We also went food shopping for our 20 day stay here and A buffet today with only lean meat, fruit and veges. I just finished making sauerkraut for us using pears, beets, red cabbage, carrots, caraway seed, mustard seed and some dill. Should be done in about a week.

We didn't walk this morning because we had to take the kids to the airport. They are on their way to Italy and we get this huge house with a remarkable pool and hot tub all to ourselves. Awwwwwwww, sigh.

Tomorrow is the gym for me. I can't wait!

Cheryl, No Janelle dosen't have family in Italy. It was suppose to be a romantic elopement. I know they will have fun. We have Higgen in a huge room with Joey and she just loves it and Rolly is in a huge room with me. Wherever I go Rolly comes with me on a leash so when we encounter a kitty then I can pick him up and there will be no fighting. It's worked out very well so far.

Great job on this mornings Hiit 30/30. Do enjoy your BBQ one last time. It's always so sad for me to see Summer leave us. Fall is good though, so looking forward to that.

Julie, Great job on this mornings back and triceps. It is strange on some days feeling stronger than others. Never really can understand it either. You know what? I did get DOM's today. Yea! I'm so grateful! The vegan restaurant fell through, the kids wanted to get the last of the packing done and hit the bed early. That's OK, I certainly didn't mind.

Amy, Welcome to our group, I'm so glad you decided to join us. Looking forward to getting to know you as well. Great job on completing your first round of STS. Congratulations, that is not an easy task.

Take care ladies and will post my workouts tomorrow from the gym.

Janie

Hi ladies, I'm home, so I'll try to get caught up on everything that I missed.

Julie what a bummer that you are still having to go do your laundry elsewhere, I sure hope the new part arrives soon. Great job on your chest ad bicep work and low impact tabata last weekend. The cookout and bonvire sounds like so much fun!
You are so funny with your retirement schedule, I started laughing out loud when I read that!

Cheryl I am really looking forward to retirement too. It seems like I am always running out of time. I think part of that is because I don't have the energy to do things in the evening after work like I used to.
Great job on yoga and TBT UB, whatever day that was!

Janie I'm glad to hear that you made it to Vegas safely and especially that you are able to use the gym there! Oh how exciting, a wedding in Italy! That is very romantic! Are they eloping, or will there be some guests? Too bad you can't be there for it, but it is so nice of you to look after their house and pets! The computers for my lab were all set up exactly like they were supposed to be, it was so nice! :D

Julie Interesting suggestion on the surge protector for your washing machine. We don't have one on ours, but it's about 20 some years old so I'm not too worried about it at this point!

Janie Oh your Mardi gras masks sound very cool, what a great idea! Great job on sticking to your paleo at the buffet, I bet that wasn't easy!

Julie Great job on shoulder and the plyo tabata from CF! I hope you had fun at your company picnic and that it was a nice day for it!

Janie Great job on your speed walk with Rolly and your tough tough leg workout! Wow and abs and balance work too, you really hit it hard! I'm with you on the gambling, I feel like I'm just throwing money away. My DH loves it and looks at it as paying for entertainment. I just have to make sure he doesn't spend too much!

CherylGreat job on 30/30, glad to hear that the weather is still holding out for you!

Julie Great job on back and triceps. Glad to hear that your triceps were feeling strong! I love it when I feel strong (it doesn't happen very often! )

Amy WELCOME! We are happy to have another Cathlete in the group! Congratulations on completing STS, that is a huge accomplishment!

I got home yesterday afternoon and was ready to crash by about 7 o'clock. i did manage to stay awake until about 9:30 though and then only woke up once so not too bad. As I told Janie, all of the computers were set up properly and everything went smoothly with my lab which I was really worried about. I woke up that morning at 4 am and couldn't get back to sleep because I was so worried about it. I was all done with my presentations by noon on Wednesday so I skipped the conference lunch and walked up to a pub for fish and chips for lunch instead. It was a beautiful day and I sat outside in the sun which was really nice. This morning I got up and did Afterburn and then the abs from Step, Jump and pump. It felt great to workout after a few days off. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Pam

Something is happening to the computer. This is my 3rd attempt to post.
Today was chest, triceps, abs and balance.

Pam, So glad you made it home safely. Great job on AB and abs from SJ&P.

Janelle does have her Father, Mother at the wedding along with her two sisters. I think Dan paid for them. He offered us the trip also, but Joey and I don't think that's right and we didn't want to take advantage of him. But, we are taking care of his place and the animals.

Take care everyone,

Jaine

Today was a rest day however we did some slow walking for about 30 min. During that time I found an olive tree. Picked some and looked on the internet to see how you would cure them at home. Found a site and will have a small jar ready in several weeks time. It's fermentation where I kinda know (hopefully) how to do it. We'll see how it goes when it's ready.

Take care,

Janie

This is my new zentangle: "Sea Menagerie". I like this one and when I get home I think I'll frame it.

Today is my rest day and going to goof off.

Janie

Julie Good job on your tricep work. I know what you mean when sometimes you feel really strong and other days it just isn't happening. Our weather turned cool really fast too. It was hot up to Thursday and the Friday the clouds have moved in and the temperature dropped. I think I am done with shorts now.

Amy Welcome to our group. We always have room for another Cathlete in our group. Congratulations on finishing STS that is a great series. Looking forward to getting to know you better.

Janie Enjoy your stay at your son's house. It sounds really nice and you are making your self at home with making some sauerkraut. I bet it will taste really good. So cool going to Italy for an elopement. I like your way of making the peace between the animals so there is no fighting. So annoying when you lose your post. Good work on chest, triceps, abs and balance. I like your new zentangle. Enjoy goofing off today.

Pam Glad that you are back. I am happy that everything went well during your lab. I think England makes the best fish and chips. So nice that you could sit out on the patio to enjoy them. Good job on Afterburn and the abs from SPJ.

Well I have been busy and this is the first chance I have had to post. I was late getting home on Thursday and I didn't feel that great so I didn't get my workout in and Friday was our neighbourhood BBQ so I didn't get it in then either. Friday night I woke up with heartburn that kept me awake most of the night so I had no energy on Saturday to do much of anything. But today I did do my yoga so I hope I am back on track. I did buy a TRX yesterday and so I need to get it set up so I can use it and get used to it. I have used one before so it shouldn't be too bad to understand.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Cheryl
