Strength in Numbers

Hi ladies, I just realized I forgot to post yesterday because I was so busy at work! Sorry about thta

Julie Great job on back and biceps. I'm glad to hear that you got good news from the vet. I know that has to be a huge relief! I think it's good that you took a break from cardio and when you go to it you will have a lot more energy and fun with it. I agree, when i notice the music and am enjoying it it really help me get through the workout!. Too funny about getting a treat after CCC, I think the treat is making it through it alive!

Penguin I may get some kettlebells to use with my BOSU. I haven't used it much since I got it because I sprained my ankle pretty badly the second time I used it  It's made me a little bit afraid of it, but I really need to get back to it more often. Too funny, the I don't want to put on shoes excuse for not working out, I haven't heard that one before!
Oh boy, that is terrible that your husband is looking for work, I hope he finds something soon! At least you have a little more time which is good. January is a better time of year to find jobs since companys have the new budget to work with.
Oh I just love cooking and trying new recipes too. I'm more of a cook than a baker though. I would love to make homemade breads because they are so good. Janie is another super bread baker, she is always posting pictures of really terrific looking breads! It is funny how our bodies perceive temperatures. The other day it was 85 here and I was thinking how hot it was. Then I had to laugh thinking a couple of months ago when it was 85 I thought it was cool!
Good for you doing that stretching, i need to do more stretching. Great job on the Slide and Glide cardio too. That one is really fun, but I'm always worried about my feet coming off the discs!

Janie Great job on Zumba, I have never tried it but it does look like a lot of fun! I think I would probably look like a spaz though  heheheh, you're funny talking about going to the gym when no one is there. I'm pretty sure they have had similar things happen many times. When does Dan get back? Your plans for Utah sound like a lot of fun, I bet you are looking forward to it. I love your plan to rotate your zentagles too so that you get to enjoy them all at different times!

Penguin Sorry you weren't able to sleep in again. I think you're right, MM after S&G and kettlebells would be tough! Great job on TBT. Yea, the pre-mixes are shorter, but the whole thing is pretty long! Surprise! You r story about the ride in your car made me laugh! I do like Jettas, we looked at one a couple of years ago for the kids but ended up getting a Mazda 3 instead.

Julie Great job on shoulder and Plyo tabata. That is weird about your stomach hurting, I'm glad to hear that it was only brief. Our fire drills are usually when it is freezing or raining. I think they plan it that way

Janie Wow, congratulations on Joey's big win! I hope you celebrated. Great job on cardio yoga!

Yesterday morning was supposed to be Muscle Endurance, but I was enjoying my sleep so I stayed in bed the extra hour instead  This morning was Drill Max. i haven't done that one in forever and love it. It is a great workout. I just finished packing for my trip and now I need to go run some errands to get ready. My flight is at 5:15 so the next time I talk to you will likely be from Africa. Have a great weekend everyone!

Pam

This morning I worked my quads and calves. I had to decrease the weight because my lower back was not happy with the way I slept last night and I didn’t want to anger it more.

Penguin Great job on the UB Trisets from LIS! That is a good workout. At least the second half seems to go a lot faster than the first half. That’s good news about getting a better car for the same amount you sold your old one for. Like a trade up. I have heard Jetta’s get really good gas mileage. I’m sure you guys will get used to the smaller inside. Crossfire is really good. I like that one better than To The Max. I hope your snuffling and sneezing goes away. I tend to get that too when the seasons change. It is pretty annoying.

Janie Congratulations on the $150 win. I would be done too and wouldn’t want to press my luck. Great job on Cardio yoga. Is that a class you took or a DVD you brought with you? It’s always good to be challenged.

Pam I figured you might be busy getting ready for your trip. No problem not posting. Good for you for enjoying your sleep! You must have needed it. Great job on Drill Max this morning! I hope you have a good flight. I imagine it will be a long flight.

Have a great day!

Since I couldn't seem to sleep late the past two days I made up for it by over-sleeping today but it was nice. My quads are still sore but its reduced to the 6 inches right above my knees. I was supposed to do Cathe's Triple Tabata premix but I'll look for something calmer. We did a little shopping last night and I was waling funny because of my legs. I hate being sore!

This is the day I get to be lazy but I usually end up doing Odd Jobs such as cleaning cabinets or windows. Its also Aprils Spa Day where I brush her out, clip her claws, or brush her teeth.

Julie, we were teasing each other about Aprils head sticking out one window while her tail would wag out the other side. This car has a sunroof which April has never seen, I picture here with one paw on each of our shoulders trying to stick her head out the roof!

Pam, my advice with the kbells is buy heavier than you think you need, you can always do fewer reps until you build up but those things are expensive to ourgrown. I'm a klutz with bad balance, I would kill myself on a BOSU. I can't even use a step with step workouts, because I miss and fall off. Enjoy your trip!

I did 42min of cardio from Cathe's Low Impact Challenge ~ warm up, Circuit Blast, Bonus and stretch. I've had this step workout for over a year but haven't tried it until today. It will never be a favorite but its do-able. Step choreo confuses me, actually any choreo confuses me, I'm not very good at following along. I didn't use a step and modified out most of the lunges and squats to baby my sore legs. I really appreciate the addition of the extra 'non-dancy' portions of the workout.

I just read Skinny Chicks Don't Eat Salad, so I'm trying the 'many mini meals a day with protein/carb balance' method. I've tried the mini meals but not the 'balance' part. One thing I like about this is I'm always eating, food addicts dream!

This morning I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to do Afterburn or Kick, Punch, Crunch; so, I did both … sort of. I did the Single Interval Premix from AB and then did the Kicking & Punching Premix from KPC. I was exhausted by the end and couldn’t do hardly any pikes or knee pull ins. I think I got one good one each. After that, I had errands to run and then I have been cleaning. I am taking a break to eat lunch and post but then it is back to cleaning and grooming Maggie.

Penguin I’m sorry you have had a hard time sleeping the last two nights. I hope it is temporary. I love calling it a Spa Day. I have to brush out our black lab/pit mix, Maggie, every other week plus do her nails. She hates every minute of it but puts up with it. That would be so cute to see April enjoying the sun roof. Dogs do love sticking their heads out of moving cars. Great job on LICh! I have only done that one a few times and it is not my favorite either. Good luck with your new eating plan. Let me know how it works.

Have a wonderful weekend! Got to get back to cleaning.:(

Sorry about being MIA again. I have been very tired and today was the first day I have worked out since Tuesday. I did Afterburn today to make up for not working out the past several days. I went to the doctor last week I needed my HRT pills renewed and wanted to know why I was always so tired and dehydrated. Well my tests came back and I had elevated enzymes in my kidneys so I had to go for some more blood work today. It has been very fustrating to want to workout but not have any energy to do it. We will see if anything comes out of the tests that were done today.

Penguin I can't get my DH interested in exercise either. Hopefully you can convince yours to get active. I live in Canada but I have never heard of Classical Stretch. You said it was a TV show?

Pam Hopefully you made your connection in Atlanta. Living on the East Coast probably makes it easier to get to Africa. One of my co-workers was raised in S Africa and when they go back to visit it is a 14 hour flight and there are several transfers.

Julie I am glad that everything is fine with Ozzie. Does he still need to wear that blow up collar? Did you enjoy doing laundry this weekend? We have had the driest August and September since 1896. I am now worried that Mother Nature will make up for it .

Janie Isn't Zumba a lot of fun. You do burn a lot of calories but it doesn't feel like you are working at all because you are having so much fun. Congrats on winning $150. Smart to quit while you are ahead.

Have a great weekend everyone. Tomorrow is Thankgiving dinner with turkey and all the fixings at my brothers house Yummmmm.

Cheryl

Today was a long walk with Rolly, about an hour.
Here is yet another zentangle that's completed. I call it Bead Box Secrets.
404178449.jpg

Julie, Great job on doing both AB and KP&C. Wow! Also on your errands, grooming Maggie and cleaning. I'd say a very productive day.

Cheryl, Do enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner at your brothers house. Great job on AF. Oh my, elevated enzymes? Please be OK. OK? I do love Zumba and trying hard to get a good price on Ebay, but still very expensive. Must be really good stuff.

Penquin, Great job on 42 min. of cardio on LIC warm up CB and BS. Really, had a step for a year and didn't use it until today. Good for you doing a step workout on it. Yea! The more you do these workouts the the easier you will remember them. Sounds like your diet is ideal for you. Keep up the good work.

Pam, Great job on DM, yep, I love that one too. Can't wait to hear all about Africa. Dan will get back on the 9th pm.

Take care ladies,

Janie

yesterday, Hubby and I were invited to a BBQ down by the river and took April. She made friends with two little girls who were the daughters of our host. Its gotten cool, the high today is 65*, last week it was 90*! I got Hubby to get my winter clothes down from the attic, so I will start to switch those out. I haven't knit much the past month but started a green cardigan this weekend.

Cheryl, I hope you get a quick answer from the tests and that its nothing critical. This is the website, Miranda just put out season 9, I think? Classical Stretch

Janie, I used to quilt and have several small 'wallhanger' quilts that I change out with the seasons, Christmas, Valentines, Fall, summer flowers. Its an easy way to decorate, and reminded me of your zentangle frame idea.. What doesn Zentangle mean, btw?

Sunday morning I worked chest and triceps and then did the Fitness tabata from To the Max. Then it was lazy day Sunday. This morning I worked hamstrings and glutes. Ozzie gets his stitches removed today which is a good thing. I think they have been bothering him because he was biting at them yesterday. Bad boy!

Cheryl Oh I hope everything works out with your blood work. While I don’t hope you have anything serious, I hope the lab work will give you some idea of what’s wrong and how to fix it. Great job for doing Afterburn especially with such low energy levels. Today would be the last day for Ozzie to wear his blow up collar but DH stayed home from work and is taking him to the vet to get the stitches removed so he doesn’t have to wear it. Oh boy, I was so excited being able to do laundry in my home. I think that feeling will wear off real soon though.

Janie Great job on your long walk with Rolly! I really like that zentangle! It’s like a crazy mirror image of itself in multiple directions. So just a couple more days in Vegas and then it is off to Utah. Do you guys stay in a hotel in Utah or in your camper?

Penguin It’s a bummer it has gotten so cold. We were in the 50s over the weekend during the day but the nights dropped below 30 so we had to turn the furnace on. I hate turning it on this early in the season. That is so cute that April made friends at the BBQ. She must be a really well behaved dog to be able to go to a BBQ and play with little kids.

Have a wonderful day!

Janie Good job with your long walk with Rolly. Your zentangles are so cool and unique. I have no idea what is up with the elevated enzymes but we will see if the blood work shows up something else.

Penguin Sounds like April had a lot of fun at the BBQ. Your weather really does fluctuate that is quite a temperature change. I have gotten my winter clothes out too though it is still quite nice in the day for us. Thanks for the website. It looks like it is based out of Montreal Quebec, I had never heard of it before.

Julie Good job on your chest and tricep work and the fitness tabata and your hamstring and glute work this morning. I bet Ozzie is one happy dog now that the stitches are gone and he doesn't have to wear that collar anymore. I hope that it is nothing serious too but again if I am tired all the time it would be nice to know if there is something that I am low on so I can fix it. I did have to take a couple of breaks while I was doing Afterburn but I did OK with it. When the feeling of excitement wears off with laundry just remember what it was like before when you had to go to your parents ;).

Well had turkey dinner last night at my brothers house. There was about 15 people and we didn't get home until 10pm and of course I wake up by 5:30am . The cats knew I was awake so they didn't leave me along because it was time for them to get fed. So today I did STS disc 13 chest shoulders and triceps. I was thinking that it had been a long time since I had done a real straight weight workout and I was missing it. Because I don't like endurance work that much I decided to start with the second phase of STS.

Have a great day everyone.

Cheryl

Walked for hours on the strip, had the most wonderful and memorable time. I got in a mood that I get into every now and then. I saw a family of Asian people (who I love to tease, because they love it). The man of the group was waving behind me to his mate and I decided to wave back. We both laughed about that because he new it was unusual and funny. Then because he took it so well I decided to take it to another level. When his group was in front of him for a photo session I decided to get into the picture with his family (just all of a sudden). They all acted surprised and since I've done this before I knew what was going to happen. LOL They loved it and wanted me in their pictures some more.

Then Joey asked if he could take a photo of them with their cameras, and they said yes, but with me in the photo with them. LOL It goes on and on like that, we took pictures of them they took pictures of us we all took pictures of all of us and we almost got another stranger involved to take a picture of The Asian family and Joey and I together. So funny and had a blast with them! Will never forget this funny time, it was very special and very spontaneous.
404190336.jpg

Aren't they beautiful!? That's Joey and me in the middle. LOL We were at the Venetian.

Penquin, I don't knit, but I do crochet. Sounds like you will have a beautiful and warm sweater. Zentangle is an art form that people have been doing forever. Two people, (Rick and Maria) decided to put a name to it and call it there creation. All it is is doodling. Using repeated patterns in such a way that it creates beauty. Also it's very calming if you don't think about it too much. That's all it is.

Julie, Great job on yesterday's chest and triceps and also Tabata from TTM. And for today's working on your hamstrings and glutes. Yea for Ozzie getting his stitches out. We stay in our houseboat and use it like a cabin. I can't wait!

Cheryl, Still concerned about you enzymes. Please keep us posted on that.:( You didn't get a lot of sleep last night. Great job on disc 13 chest shoulders and triceps. Good for you.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Hi ladies,

Just a quick check in to say hello. Things are busy, but 2 days are done and 3 to go. It looks like you are all doing well, Cheryl, do let us know what they find out about in your tests. That sounds scary, I hope it is nothing serious. I have been to the gym 2 of my 3 mornings here so far. I did 2 miles on the treadmill yesterday and then had to stop because I thought I was going to be sick, I was fine after lying down for a few minutes though. This morning was 30 minutes on the stair master and some abs with the ball. I felt a little self conscious doing pikes when there were other people in the room, but I did it anyway! Janie, I loved your story and your picture form the strip, you are too cute! Take care.

Pam

This morning I did the Low Impact Tabata from To The Max and then I did Yoga Relax. Since I am not much of a yogi, I am quite proud of myself for doing it two weeks in a row. Go me!

Cheryl Great job on STS disc 13! I am thinking about doing another STS round but skipping Meso 1. I just don’t enjoy it (except I do like the legs) and life is too short to not enjoy. Ozzie was so excited to have his stitches out when he got home from the vet last night he ran around our house like a mad man screeching at all the toys. Taking breaks is not a bad thing, I often have to take mini breaks to get a sip a water and just get my heart rate under control before moving on. Afterburn and other interval workouts are especially hard to get through without taking small breaks.

Janie That’s too funny about your encounter on the strip. I don’t think I would ever do something like that. I’m not much of a social butterfly and more of an introvert. I can always live vicariously through you on what it would be like to be so outgoing though.

Pam Great job on getting to the gym the last few days! Sounds like they have a nice gym. So glad you made it there safe. Try to have some fun!

Have a wonderful day!

Hubby had to go out of town again this week. I spent the morning doing laundry, baking cookies for tomorrow {Oatmeal Pumpkin spice}, and knitting. Its warming up for the weekend but then it will rain.

Julie, I bet Ozzie was a happy dog. I have the same problem with workouts my HR gets up then I can't do the weights, which for me is the fun part!

Pam, great job on the pikes! I asked Hubby if his hotel had a gym, it will be interesting to see if he works out.

janie, great shot! glad you had a good time. ETA: forgot to ask if you are on Ravelry? I knit and crochet, just depends on the pattern and project.

Cheryl, I dont' like endurance work as much as just straight lifting. Good job getting you workout in. April is pretty good about waiting to be fed but even she has her limits.

Janie Love the picture. I am like Julie and I could never do what you did :D. Good for you sounds like you had a lot of fun. No I didn't get a lot of sleep I wish I could sleep in but my internal alarm clock seems to go off at that time.

Pam Glad things are going well for you there. Weird about feeling sick after being on the treadmill but glad that you were feeling better after a few minutes. Good for you with doing the pikes on the ball. I know what you mean about being self conscious with other people in the room.

Julie You go girl......good for you in doing yoga two weeks in a row. Good job on the low impact tabata too. So funny about Ozzie running around like a mad man. I bet it felt great for him to get the stitches out and not having to wear that collar.

Penguin Yummy Oatmeal Pumpkin Spice cookies. You know Fall is here when you start baking things with pumpkin. I am not a big fan of endurance either though I know it does have its place in the training program.

Well we had to take Tango to the vet tonight so I couldn't fit in my workout. He has developed scabs around rim of his eyes so we wanted to get it checked out. The vet told us what it was but it had such a long name I can't remember what it is exactly. We need to put a gel in his eye twice a day. Thankfully he is a good patient so it shouldn't be too bad. Well maybe I will hold off on that comment until I need to give it to him tomorrow morning and see how it goes.

Have a great day everyone.

Cheryl

Picked up the newlyweds tonight. They looked exhausted. Poor things have jet lag and need to get acclimated to Vegas again. Dan's birthday tomorrow and bought him a pinata, baked him a cake. Will put 4 candles on it to represent 40 years.

Will be leaving the next day early (the 11th) and don't know if we will be connected to a computer in Hanksville UT. Hopefully there will be WFI somewhere, but it's kinda sorta iffy and sometimes doable. We'll see. If you don't hear from me that's why and will connect with you all when we get back to civilization within a week or two.

Pam, You are so good about the gym. I haven't set foot in there since my episode. LOL I'm doing cardio though and walking a long way from one Casino to the other sometimes and walking long walks with Rolly. Great job 2 miles on the treadmill. When I eat something and run or do a cardio I get sick. Glad you are OK now. Also, great job on 30 min. of stair master and abs with the ball. Good for you to not let people get in the way of your pikes. You go!

Julie, Great job on LIT from TTM and yoga relax. Yea you! I don't normally do that kind of things to people just every now and then. One of my sisters do it all the time. She has a lot of fun in life. Bless her heart.

Penquin, Hmmmmm, oatmeal pumpkin spice cookies. One of my weaknesses. What is Ravelry?

Cheryl
, Poor Tango, at least he'll feel better soon. Give him a pet for me. Try and get some sleep.

Take care ladies,

Janie

This is my first early morning of the week, lol, not really a morning person.

Janie, Ravelry is a HUGE online knitting/crochet forum. You have to sign up with an email but its worth it for the free patterns, information, and resourses alone. It makes keeping track of patterns, yarn, and projects eaay, and to get ideas for new projects.

Cheryl, poor Tango. Hopefully the gel will work and he gets better soon.

This morning I worked my back and biceps. I noticed something ever since I have been doing my own lifting. I tend to skip "5" when I am counting. I think I need my own personal Cedie to count for me.

Penguin Oatmeal Pumpkin Spice cookies sound delicious. I love straight lifting too. In fact I have just been doing my own lifting program since September. I used to be a cardio queen but then I did Gym Styles and started to fall in love with heavy lifting. STS sealed the deal for me on what type of lifting I crave.

Cheryl Poor Tango! I hope he doesn’t give you too much trouble with getting the gel in his eye. If only they understood it was necessary so they could get better. I hope the condition isn’t contagious so your other kitty doesn’t get it. I’m always worried when one of the dogs gets something that it will be contagious and the other one will get it.

Janie Happy birthday to your son! Hope you guys have a great time together before you head off to the desert—although I know Vegas is in the desert too. Check in if you can otherwise, we will be here when you get back. Have a great time!

Have a wonderful day!

Well, I seem to be taking an exercise rest week. I'm cold, tired and snuffly and I just don't want to do anything that doesn't involve the couch, tv, and knitting.

Julie, I have to have a DVD, if I'm left to workout on my own I won't do anything. In fact, like this week, I'm pretty bad even with a schedule! I tried to get into the Firm's style of workouts and while they can be fun I don't feel worked out, just out of breath; I don't feel I can lift heavy enough with them for the weights to be effective.

Janie, this is a link to my current sweater's project page to give you an idea. Ravelry: patchworkpenguin's Ice Green. There are more project pictures you should be able to access if you click on the thumbnail.

Janie It will take a while to get over the jet lag. Hopefully they don't have to go back to work too soon. Enjoy your drive down to UT, post when you can.

Penguin I used to knit but when we got Tango all he would want to do is play with the yarn when I tried to knit. I should try and get back into it since it has now been four years since we got Tango. If you are cold, tired and snuffly it is probably a good idea to take a break. It is not enjoyable to workout when you have to really push yourself to do it.

Julie Good job on your back and bicep work. Too funny that you miss "5" when counting. I seem to mess up on the slow and heavy workouts, for some reason I forget where I am in the count . No the condition isn't contagious so that is good.

Today I did STS disc 14 Legs. I like the tri-set work in it. So this morning I gave Tango the gel in his eyes. He was not very happy with me. After I did it he didn't want to be around me at all and tonight was the same. It is going to be a long couple of weeks with having to do this. Hopefully he doesn't start hiding under the bed or it will be really hard to get him out.
