Skinny Celebrities

I hate the whole fat/skinny war myself...why can't our society just focus on being HEALTHY? Healthy comes in all shapes and sizes and I think that is much more important than wether or not you are fat, skinny or somewhere in between...

You can't win no matter what size you are...seems someone will always have something negative to say about it and that's sad....*sigh*

JMHO.

Have a great work out!

Susan I have to agree with ya, I know that some of the celebrities are pressured for roles to be real thin, BUT some are not and that is their business...
Some of these remarks are really not nice.....
There was a thread not long ago about how bad women talk about other women and promised from now on to watch it..... Rhonda

But the fact remains, as I posted in a thread a long time ago, being overweight is perceived as being a character flaw rather than just a physical characteristic. Being thin never has been and never will be perceived that way

Then why are the some "ewwwwws" here?

>Then why are the some "ewwwwws" here?

i'm sorry... i don't understand? are you asking why thin people are in this forum? or asking why larger people are here?

Desertbriez:

you really are not reading carefully enough. Not all these posts are trashing the thin celebrities. In remarking upon the lack of pressure upon men to be slim and upon men who comment that other slim women are too fat, what we are in fact doing is calling attention to the cultural standards of normativity which are held out to us ideologically and to which we are made to feel we must measure up in order to be accepted socially. This means that the skinny celebrities such as Olsen, Boyle, etc are victims of the same social pressures. It is the cultural norms that we are trashing here.

Look at how much more successful and "sexy" Sarah Jessica Parker has been and "is" since she lost the pounds she used to carry 10 years ago. It is true and fact that women have been fired from their jobs in the public eye because they were perceived by the male corporate machine to be "too fat." Success, acceptability and femininity are orientated culturally around slimness, not fatness of even a modicum of curves. This is what we are challenging. How successful has Kirsty Ally been since she "ballooned"? Until recently, not at all. There are few roles for fat women or even women with normal body shapes.

Finally, if this discusion has you totaly pissed off, which is very clear from your less than friendly posts, why do you continue to visit it?

i still don't know what she means by why are the ewwwwws here? does she mean the size 0's? or the size 100's?

and some people say MY posts are mean? cuz i'm defending not using either fat or skinny as terms.. but she's calling one of these groups ewwwwws?

go figure!

I didn’t select "reply with a quote" before my first post, I thought I edited it, sorry....I was replying to this below. She said thin will never be perceived as a character flaw, but I read a lot of negative comments about the celebrities in those pictures.

i'm sorry... i'm having a really "dumb" moment cuz i'm still not getting what you mean by why are the ewwwws here? WHO are the ewwwws you are asking why they are here? (and i'm assuming you mean "here" as in this thread:)

If you want to blame the society for the way it is, blame the press. I don't take it personally. I just do what I feel is right for me. I don't know why some of you ladies take this WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too personally especially about being skinny. If you're genetically skinny, who cares?? People do not know you so what do you care? People judge by looks and then personality. Frankly, most people would rather to be called skinny than fat. Life is too short to worry about who's skinny, who's fat, who's pink, who's purple.....Move on please!

Desert, you could use a breather. If you do not like to read these posts, don't read it. We have the rights to talk about what we want since this is an open forum... Meaning: Any topics are welcome. Of course, some people will take it personally but there are some people who take it TOO personally.

Hope all is well and everyone's enjoying their new workouts! :p

>I always thought Nicole Richie looked a little chubby. Isn't
>that weird? And I don't think that 114 lbs for someone who is
>5'3" (Brittany Murphy) is anything to call "skinny". I'm
>5'0", 103 lbs and I don't look like Olive Oyl.

Donna (dss62467):

I'm 5'0'' and I used to weigh 102 and I *did* look like Olive Oyl. Everyone kept commenting on how sickly I looked. I did look terrible. You know what?? I didn't take it as an insult either. I took it as these people really care about me and they want me to be healthy. So I listened and I started eating in a more healthy manner. I naturally look better at 120 than I do at 102. It's all about body composition I think. I look much more healthy at 120 and wearing a size 4-6. Also, I never thought Nicole Richie looked chubby. Huh? Maybe because she was standing next to Paris Hilton?

first off.. i'm not genetically thin.. i work at it... that doesn't give anyone the right to call my SKINNY and more than i have the right to call someone who works at being fat.. FAT...

fine.. YOU can talk about whatever you want.. including calling people skinny.. that means I too can talk about people being FAT...

what happened to politeness? (using thin/large vs skinny/fat?)

nope.... welcome to vanity sizing... where a 0 is a 4 and a 6 is a 10

just get out some clothes from your closet that you've had a few years.. compare the size label with something you just bought very recently... you'll see what i mean!

Nicole Richie is my height and weighs 98 and she looks way too thin. When I was 102 (at 5'00'') people thought I was really sick. They kept trying to get me to eat. Some people may look "normal" at that same weight and height, and some people just look way too thin. Like I said before, it's all about body composition, body fat percentage, bone structure, body shape etc.

>WOW! so if i posted an article about fat celebrities.. would

You're a tad bit off there. In this day and age, "FAT" is meant to be rude and insulting and "SKINNY" is a *compliment*. Sorry, but that's just the way it is in this society.

You want politeness?? How about working on your attitude first then I'll politely call you THIN instead of the word I had in my head for you.

I work hard on being THIN, and I do not care if someone calls me skinny or whatever because I know they're not calling me anorexic, bulimic or whatever. There is a difference....People who have low self esteem do not like being called these things regardless as a joke, compliments, etc.... I've never heard of anyone calling fit people (people with muscles like fitness models on Oxygen) skinny. I'm sure you'd beat the hell out of the person no matter what kind of a compliment they give you. I'm sure you've called people physical names before so don't act like Miss Innocent. There is a difference between anorexic thin and regular thin. Skinny has different "meanings" to it depending on where you are from.

I'll take someone calling me "Skinny" as a compliment any day of the week. :7 If you work at being so thin then why are you insulted by it? I don't understand. Didn't you comment on Cedie's shape in the other thread?
