 Which Halloween movies do you think are the scariest? My #1 vote is for "The Exorcist". I remember when I first saw that movie I was so freaked out! At the time I first saw it, I was home alone with my two little boys (they were in bed) and I soo was scared to go into another room! Even though this one isn't a Halloween movie, JAWS freaked me out! I went to the movie theater when it came out ( I was 10) and it scared me too death! I would'nt eat tomato soup for quite a while after that! Also ranking in a close second are the "Halloween" movies with Michael Myers!

"Alien" and "Aliens"; hands-down the scariest movies I've ever seen. A close second (or third) is "Rosemary's Baby"; complete paranoia.

Here's my list!

1. Nightmare on Elm Street
2. Halloween
3. The Shining
4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
5. Silence of the Lambs (while not in the horror genre per se, this one was so suspenseful that it freaked me out for days afterward).
6. Cape Fear (same type of comments for Silence of the Lambs.

I Love the "Halloween" movies. I saw Halloween 1 and Halloween 2 at the theater and thought they were so scary. I probably crazy, but my favorite movies are scary movies. I watch them all the time. The first Alien movie started yesterday again at the theaters. I never saw it in the theater, so I'm making my husband take me to see it this weekend. Aliens (#2) is my favorite Alien movie.

I work at home and my t.v. for pretty much this entire week is staying on either AMC, FX, or Sci-Fi as they're showing scary movies all week. My husband thinks I'm nuts. I did this last year and even though I don't actually sit watch the movies, as I'm working, I started having nightmares by the end of the week. }(

"Rosemary's Baby" as they are all against her and it is such an evil story. Don't know if this is a Halloween movie, but watching Julia Roberts attempt an Irish accent in “Mary Reilly” was pretty scary! The 1st Halloween has some good bits. And Silence of the Lambs really freaked me out.

Gee, the list is long! A few favorites:

Silence of the Lambs (I agree with Sabine. A nail-biter.)
The Exorcist
The Sixth Sense
Carrie
Poltergeist
Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte (This was the first REALLY scary movie I ever saw, when I was maybe 11 or 12. Bette Davis, Joseph Cotten, Olivia deHavilland. I don't think it ever made it to VHS, even, but what a pity -- these three just chewed up the scenery. I've seen it on TV a few times and it's always such a delight to see it's coming on, because it's broadcast so rarely now. Another one in the same vein, also starring Bette Davis, was "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?")

Can't believe know ones said this one "the Enity" with Barbabra Hershe...how scary was that? And a true story making it even worse!!!

Can I vote for Leaner Legs? If you had seen me attempting that workout, you would agree.

Kidding aside, I would have to say it's a tie between "Silence of the Lambs", "Exorcist", and "Rosemary's Baby".

Can't wait to hear what has scared Cathe.

If any of you haven't seen 28 days Later, I would highly recommend it. That has to be one of the scariest movies I've seen next to the Exorcist.
Those two get my vote hands down!

Lisa, you are so funny, I love it!

Ooh, I love scary movies! The scariest Halloween movie would, for me, have to be "Halloween". Freaked me out! Other movies that really scared me would have to be: The Zero Boys, Terror Train (now it seems so cheesy), Prom Night (now seems cheesy, too, Helter Skelter (had to sleep with my mom; I was a teenager) oh and The Ring. That one for some reason really freaked me out. I don't think it would have had that effect on me if the girl had not come through the TV. Couldn't get it out of my mind. Silence of the Lambs also disturbed me. And, as KathyS stated, the latter two oldies but goodies!

The Exorcist! That one scared me to death! I was scared to go to sleep forever (years!). I was only 14 or 15 when it was released and I had to have someone else buy me ticket because I was too young to get in. Then of course I had to sneak in. I swore that being so scared was my punishment for sneaking behind my parent's back. My gosh, that was almost 30 years ago! s:eek:

The Shining
Pet Semetary
Cujo
Carrie
--see a theme here?

I also thought the Sixth Sense was pretty spooky.

I love the older movies such as Dracula and Frankenstien but I do love the Exercist and Rosemarys baby. I also Love the Entity, I tend to love the paranormal movies LOL. I don't know if anyone has ever watched Vincent Price movies but those are awesome!! don't play those very often anymore

:(

I agree, "The Exorcist" takes home the bacon. I must have been around 8 or 9 when that came out. That scene where the girl's head rotates 360 degrees basically scared me into remaining Roman Catholic! But I'm much older now and my belief system has been altered so dramatically, which keeps me from being scared that easily anymore.

Except when I see spiders.:)

Don't know if its the scariest, but definately way up there on the list...

"Salem's Lot" Older movie (late 70's early 80's) David Soul plays the main character.

Oh, I thought the original "The Omen" was more frightening than "The Exorcist"

Never saw the Exorcist!

I vote for the Exorcist as being the scariest movie ever because even the commercials scared me! I've never watched it but plan on doing so for the VERY FIRST TIME EVER tomorrow night!
