New Runners All Welcome! Sept. 9, 09

Morning y'all!

Today I decided to do the interval run that I missed yesterday, with kettlebells tonight.

I did CardioCoach Volume 8, walking the level 2s, running the level 3s at an endurance pace and pushing the level 4s to a pace somewhere between my usual endurance pace and my sprinting pace. This was the first time I had run for this volume and it went well. It gave me the idea for creating a CC premix that builds endurance rather than sprinting, so I did that after my workout.

By the way, the DOMS from that kettlebell workout on Tuesday night are finally kicking in- specifically, kicking my posterior and all the way down. It's great, because I was worried that the kettlebell workout was too much fun and I hadn't worked hard enough.

Volume 8 is - well - whoa baby! Those hill climbs, christ! I do love the music and layout of vol 8, so I am very curious what you come up with for a re-mix.

The swimman arrives today, so maybe I'll try some of your other mixes for swimming too. (that is if I can traverse itunes successfully, I may have to employ ds20 to do the work.! - laughing)

Hey - what a break through - working on endurance running rather than sprinting! Way to work it!!!:D

You had DOMS in your posterior and all the way down? All the way down the hamstrings? Or DOMS in the posterior "chain", i.e. your back, and all the way down ??? Please enlighten me.:)

Hi Beauties,

I'm waking up at 3:15 on the dot every morning, fortunetly I am able to go back to sleep, but it is getting annoying. I feel a little bleary this morning,like a hangover without the fun!

I decided to stay home today, no swimming. No swimming tomorrow either as I have to hang around here and wait for a pick up (return) and a delivery. I'm going to let Morningstar kick my butt again, and then do some YOGA!

So, check this out - last night, I came home from ds's soccer practice, and I'm attempting to make a quick dinner. (burritos - you know - the fall back) I turn on the water and there is just a dribble! {wtf!}

I cojoled the older two boys to drive up to the road to check out the water box. BTW, I win this argument with my "ankle" trump card. {laughing} They have to retrieve the trash and recycling bins any way, so they capitulated.

It seems that my mj growing neighbor is laying down irrigation pipes in his back 'yard', for 'grass' {snorting laugh} and had all three water boxes at the road open and tampered with. My box is on MY property, why in the world would he need to turn off my water? Unless he is a complete (f-ing) moron and doesn't realize that after you turn the water off, there is still water in the pipes and you have to leave a faucet open to drain the water off. All I can think is he was surprised to find water coming out of his faucet and believed he turned the wrong one off. The dope! {bwha haa haha}

I suggested to the ds's that we spray paint our address on the box, they thought this unneccesary and get this - aggressive! {what?}

I have to take ds to school. I'll catch up when I return. :)

Added:

I am back -

It is hot again, and I am trying to decide whether to turn on the a/c. I think I might. Closing all the windows is a work out in itself, but it will make functioning today more tolerable, and I may even get the tower assembled if it's cooler.

There are so many amateurs in the school parking lot! I want to remain an upstanding member of the community, but some mornings I feel like laying on the horn, and screaming out the window, adding hand gestures for emphasis. This happens every school year, folks are clueless for the first month or so of school about how to maneuver through the parking lot without being an obstruction to others. Some of the people have no IDEA that there are other people in the world. I did breathe in and out slowly and calmly, and moved through the lot like a turtle. At that speed I was just waiting for someone to flag me down for a little chat! Thankfully I slipped outta of there - I was wearing my racer back pj top, a denim skirt, sunglasses, no shoes... and no -uh - other things. ;):D

When I was recovering from my horseback riding accident I often went to school in my bathrobe! I stopped that when we got snow and needing to get out of the car sobered me up!

Ok - breakfast, more tea, and exercise, in that order!
:D

Janis- So Tricia and I watch Weeds, you get to be a walk on bit character in it. Have you tried any of the Yoga Today workouts? They have different instructors and degrees of difficulty.

Tricia- Yeah, I'm glad I don't have celiac's either. Those poor celiacs have to watch out for everything like soy sauce, caramel coloring (usually a wheat product) barley and oatmeal. Its insane the amount of issues they really have to deal with. Also, the specialist seemed to think that I would get better because of the way I got sick.

MStar- Do you watch Warehouse 13? I haven't read Twilight yet, I just couldn't bring myself to spend money on something I'm capable of devouring in a few days. Of course that said I do spend money on food and I tend to devour that in a few minutes, maybe thats a double standard.

Jenn- How is it going?

Lurkers- We know your in here. We can hear your breathing. And you have cheesy poufs breath.

I wonder when shock cardio will actually come. I hope it comes before my birthday (in March.) My ankle is not as swollen as yesterday. It appears to just be a twist and no breakage. I'm packing to drive up to Eureka tomorrow. The nice part is we are not staying in a hotel so I have access to a laundry room, full size kitchen, and bath. So, its just like being at home. Except its tidier. My Aunt Peggy is also called Mrs. Clean. I'm taking my walking shoes and iPod. I may not have internet for a few days but maybe I will get lucky and there will be an open wifi somewhere.

Hey guys,

I have had a rather awful day physically - lots of reactive hypoglycaemia episodes. I'm trying to be active right now just to get myself going again. I'm supposed to do kettlebells tonight, but it may take wine again! :p

Alisha, I have to tell you that I love your sense of humour- it sneaks up on us! I'm glad the ankle doesn't seem to have any permanent damage. Try to stay on both feet while you're away, won't you? We can't keep losing runners this way! I've never heard of Wharehouse 13. I got Twilight out from the library, so didn't spend a penny on it. Of course, now I want the set for Christmas!

Tricia and Alisha, it is going to be very quiet around here without you two! Janis, Jen and I are going to have to up the posting just to keep our lurkers/stalkers interested!

Janis, I get the feeling that your neighbour is lucky that you don't burn down his crops for messing with your water (inhaling deeply the whole time, of course!) We have a lot of urban grow ops here; they are generally discovered because they lit their place on fire. I guess too much smoking the product, not enough education in high school physics. Ummm, when you were talking about snow sobering you up in the parking lot at the school, you didn't mean that LITERALLY, right?

How'd the Mstar butt kicking go? I must have an inner sadist trying to get out! After doing kettlebells even once, I really think you might enjoy it for a change from traditional weight lifting. Tricia, you too - it's lifting a weight with more of a fun cardio bent.

Janis, it was posterior ("ass", girl!) all the way down to the ground, baby!

I have to say, I didn't find CardioCoach 8 all that hard. Maybe I wasn't pushing it as hard as I could, I dunno. I thought it would be brutal, but maybe I've laid enough of the groundwork for running that it wasn't. As for sharing my CC endurance workout, it's quite boring, really. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone as a great, fun workout. It's literally 8 intervals of 8 minutes each at level 3, with two minutes recovery between each interval. Start with a ten minute warm up, add a 5 minute cool down and some stretching, and that's it. Boring. But I'm hoping it's effective and fun to actually do - I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Tricia, I prefer my vampires grilled, with a lot of hot sauce. Kelley Armstrong writes the Women of the Otherworld series, and she's fun. She's not a fantastically amazing writer, but she has a light touch and is enjoyable when you aren't looking for something too heavy or dark.

Jen, where you at, girl?

Okay, so here's my recruitment ad for open discussion; tell me what you think:

I love it! I wouldn't change a thing! Of course, we're probably the only ones who would get the humor! Oh, well! :D

Chase people away!? No way! No one will be able to resist reading every page of the thread. The $ will roll in. {laughing}

Maybe it's time for yet another side-line job, Morningstar. You can be a personal trainer AND a copywriter!

Yes, it'll be quiet with Alisha and Tricia gone, but the remaining company is good too.:)

The fee shall be payable in workout DVDs, iTunes gift cards, dumbbells, barbells and kettlebells. I figure you get the workout DVDs, I get the kettlebells, Janis gets the barbells, Alisha gets the iTunes and Jen gets the dumbbells. Fair?

So, my blood sugar came back up and I felt better so I did AOS Providence. I didn't think it was a very hard workout, probably because the heaviest KB I have is 25lbs. I think the next time I do this workout, I will sub in a heavier DB for the Triple Crush - a bicep/tricep combo move. 25lbs just wasn't cutting it. I may be surprised by DOMS though - I hope so!

Okay, off to dinner.

Evening Ladies!

This may be my last post for a couple of days unless I can hit some free wifi somewhere in between!

I will miss all of you! I'll be having fun and maybe I can consume enough wine at the tastings not to feel the loss so much! :confused:;) (The confused icon has to sub as a tipsy icon here!)

I miss my babies so much! I dropped them off at the kennel around 3:30 today and when I came home it was so quiet. I could hardly stand it!

Janis - Waking up in the middle of the night (morning?) sucks! I'm used to it because of my pups getting up at night, but it does make for a screwed up sleep schedule! I didn't get a workout in today either. Too much to do to get ready to go and I still need to pack! I'll do that right before bed.

I can't believe your neighbor shut your water off! That would piss me off so badly! Luckily, no one can do that here. I love your story about the school pickup/drop off! Reminds me of Mr. Mom! LOL! Good for you for taking it in stride! I think I would explode! I've been in N.E. too long! I'm starting to act like a Rhode Islander and I don't know if I like it.

I do expect you guys to keep up the action while I'm away! I'll have plenty to catch up on when I get back! I want rocking humor, excitement (but no accidents, take care of yourselves), and action! I want to to be entertained! :)

Alisha - Enjoy your trip! Say hello to Sheriff Carter for me! ;) Maybe we should let Janis be Celia? LOL! You're also probably more likely to have internet access than I will! I'm going to try like crazy!

Morningstar - You never know . . . we may pop up with a post when you least expect it! Be wary, take care, we'll . . . be . . . right . . BAAAAACCCCCKKKKK!!!! (Scream reference.)

I'll check out the series of books by Kelley Armstrong! I do like heavy and dark, the darker and heavier, the better, but I also like light and fluffy sometimes. That's why I read James Patterson! :eek:

Take care and don't do anything I wouldn't do!!! :eek:

REMEMBER! Vampires are our FRIENDS!

Sounds like a beautiful plan!

Hey

I didn't do any exercise at all today. Thought about it,though. That does count, right?

I have been low energy all day too. Only in the last hour has it picked up. Could be because I switched to Darjeeling, and watched my ds11 assemble the Tower. Excellent design. It went together very quickly. It takes up some floor space though, so - uh - that's a problem.

I could write volumes about the various projects my neighbor has started and stopped. The other day he trenched out his 'yard' in preparation for his irrigation, and he gouged out the roots of two trees. The trees are now getting ready to topple onto his roof!:eek:(dumbass)

The kettle bells do look like something I would really enjoy. Hmmm- maybe in December, hmmm maybe a gift waiting for me under the pretty tree decorated with lovely ornaments. I need more posterior kicking. {don't get any bright ideas, Morningstar!!!!:D}

Oh and Morningstar, you CAN'T have any vampires, you're vegetarian! (unless of course vampires are made of milk or eggs or whey, which I am pretty sure they're not, I would think they are a flesh food through and bloody through!)

Tricia - aren't you leaving in less than 24 hours!??? Have a safe flight! Enjoy Vegas while you there, I hope you get lucky.;););)

Jenn - Speak up honey, I can't hear you!

Tricia

Hey, maybe I should stalk some wineries this weekend, see if I can pick you out of the crowd!!!

Have fun!

Lot's of sun here, you may never go back to RI!

And everyone is mellow, baby!

We're still in Vegas on Saturday, so we don't actually start until Sunday! We'll be at Chateau Montelena on Monday morning unless we can fit it in after the wine train on Sunday. Our stop on Sunday is at Domaine Chandon Winery Tour. I just don't know what time. So, good luck finding us! ;) If you do, we'll buy YOU lunch or dinner whichever we're at when you find us!

Chandon has a lovely restaurant and a nice menu! Maybe I will hunt you down! {laughing}

Seriously, have a great time. And NO DRIVING! Hwy 29 and Silverado Trail are patroled heavily for drunk driving,especially around crush, 'k?

Hey everyone (at least, those of you that have not abandoned us for carefree Vegas and stick horses),

This morning I did my run using the CardioCoach workout I mentioned yesterday. I had planned on doing 8 intervals of 8 minutes each and ended up doing 7 intervals instead. I just ran out of route- I had marked out a 10k route (plus warm up and cool down) and I didn't feel like keeping going with that last interval past the 10k. The whole thing was 11.6k and it was fine. My right knee hurt a bit near the end, and my right quad is definitely not happy, but the running intervals totalled 56 minutes- that ain't bad! Who cares if I didn't do it without walking? The whole workout took about 90 minutes with warm up, cool down and stretch. I had some chocolate milk for recovery afterwards; I'm trying to avoid another low blood sugar day like yesterday.

Janis, I hope you're feeling more yourself soon. Thanks for reminding me not to eat vampires, although I'm surprised I needed such a reminder.

I've posted the ad; let's see what happens!

Great ad!

First thing I saw on the forum this morning was Morningstar's ad. Hilarious! I don't check Cathe's forums very often, but I am really glad I did this morning. Very amusing! Almost makes me want to dust off my treadmill and charge up the mp3 player for a round with Coach Sean. = )

Awww, thanks, Tana! C'mon, join us! And run on the dusty treadmill; we aren't too big on housekeeping around here!

Hey Guys,

I was here in the beginning but then dropped out because......I'm not sure why. I guess part of it is because I want to do more running but I have had to cut down due to caretaking for my dad with dementia. I love running and want to do so many races and it's just depresses me sometimes so talking about running sometimes hurts. Does that make sense?

I still run about 2 or 3 times a week and am doing a 5K tomorrow morning in a Plantation. I'm really looking forward to it. It is a hilly course and we will be running on pea gravel, grass, dirt, red-clay (Georgia) and asphalt.

I will do my best to check in every day because I do love running.

Can I make a request though? Is it possible to have a thread started either daily or weekly?

Thanks! I'm glad to be back.
