Ooooh, I'm excited about just about everything you are doing! I'm a new runner and I am doing my first 5k race in about 3 weeks, and I'm very nervous about the actual logistics of the race- how to avoid tripping on people, the protocols, that kind of thing. I just started doing kettlebells, and I also weight train, both traditional and circuits. I'm curious about how you combined KBs and running- was it in a gym?
I'm so excited for you! I have wonderful memories of my first 5K! Of course in the beginning of the race I was thinking
why am I doing this? But once you cross the finish line all your doubts will fade away.
I have done big and small races. The biggest being 2000+ at the Tower of Terror 13K in Disney to a local race that had 45 people!! I love smaller races better even though there may be a chance I could place last!! Although that has never happened yet!!!
Let me know your questions and I will answer them the best I can. I'm not a fast runner so I usually tend to stay toward the back of the pack and let the faster runners take off.
No gym for me. I workout mainly at home in my backyard. I attended a fitness boot camp a couple of years ago where I learned about kettlebells and they often combined kettlebell drills with running. I love combining running with other exercises because it really builds your endurance. At the boot camp I attended there was a woman who ran and she told me that her race times were getting better due to the workouts we were doing at boot camp.
Here are 2 examples of running/kettlebell workouts that I have done. I did the first one below last night.
2 Rounds
5 Thrusters (squat to a press) (R) – run 200 meters
5 Thrusters (L) – run 200 meters
10 High Pulls (R) – run 200 meters
10 High Pulls (L) – run 200 meters
15 Swings – (R) – run 2 suicide sprints
15 Swings – (L) – run 2 suicide sprints
.
4 Rounds
400m Run
Kettlebell Complex (20 kettlebell swings, 15 kettlebell cleans, 10 kettlebell squats, 5 Kettlebell presses)
These are fun workouts!! You can make up any combination of distance and kettlebell drills. They really amp up your workouts.
