Lurker Invitations Aug, 2009

Shadowpup: INSANE sounds insane. It also sounds like it is hi impact--is it? This old body just can't do hi impact anymore. I want to keep my achilles tendons happy and healthy. Cathe's maximum intensity cardio earlier this month reminded me and my body why I stopped hi impact aerobics. However, I always enjoy reading about your experiences with these many different exercise programs.

Shoegal: You'll be okay--do PS legs and abs. I don't think it is as tough as GS legs or CTX Leaner Legs. I'm also awaiting Cathe's post of the Septmeber rotation. I stuck with the first 3 weeks of her August rotation and did four workouts that I hadn't tried yet: IMAX 2 (loved that), MIC (see above--it's really tough), Kick Punch and Crunch (another winner), and Muscle Endurance (another good one).

Speaking of ME--that's what I did this morning. I have to remember that endurance translates to lower weights and faster reps. WooWee! And the beloved leg presses--I know I will be feeling those later today. I'm already feeling my triceps. And I think the ab segment on ME is one of Cathe's best. She really targets in on getting the crunch done with the correct form. Super ab burner.

Hello out there -

Yes - I did do PS: legs and abs - and you are right Michelle - not as tough as GS legs or B&Gs- did do a whole mess of lunges though. I have to say that I was going low on weights - and it was funny to hear Cathe talk about going heavy on these early workouts and how different it feels and what to expect. Sort of makes me wish I had purchased these when they first came out - I'm coming in way late. I modified some of the exercises to suit me.

Shadowpup - yes that sounded INTENSE - and I can actually see how that could be fun - in some of the IMAX's I get such a blast out of pushing myself into the anaerobic - "mightdropdead" zone. Who knew that could be a blast?? I have not tried CardioCoach or Sean T - but all I hear are good things and it makes me want this program - but I'm sure right now I wouldn't be able to handle it though.

Michelle - those leg presses. I've had some issues last night. Now I've done the Firm's leg presses way way back on their wooden high step with heavy weights - but since I never do the Firm anymore - I have kind on lost strength in that area - Cathe always did them - as you said - in her later workouts with a band or light weights more for muscle endurance so I found these tough in PS - she picked up 15lbs - I picked up 10's and I was struggling!!! :p

Ironlady - I wanted to tell you HAPPY BIRTHDAY - I know that it was on the 23rd so I'm kind of late but I hope it was a good one!!!. :D

Hello to Janie & Laura!!!

Hi Everyone, just caught up on the personals! I had a really very nice visit with my Aunt and she really enjoyed the girls. It was very short and I did not work out at all Saturday or Sunday. I taught my 2 classes Monday night, and I thought I would feel good from a 2 day break, but I was dragging still. My weights were down and I just struggled through. Tuesday morning was my Pilates class and then I had the Double Cardio Premix from 4DS to make up from my weekend with the Aunt, which I have done before. But after the first cycle, which is the lower impact step rountine, I just didn't have it in me to do the higher impact step part, & I was starting to run late to a B-day party in Boulder for the girls, so I quit. I think that is the first time I have ever quit!!:eek::eek::mad::mad: I spent the night in Boulder with the girls last night, as we were at the party late and would have to be back down there today for their sessions. So I didn't get a work out in today! I am debating doing one now, but it is late.....

Hope to be back for personals! I did read them all...and Shadowpup I am so jealous you have Insanity!!!:eek::eek::eek:

Today was Powermax Thursday. I wasn't feeling extremely inspired this morning but I felt much better after the workout. Ripken likes the latin cooldown at the end of Powermax because he can sit by the step in just the right spot and get a pet on the head as I go by. Of course, he is also prepositioned to commence the link-down as soon as the stretch begins and I'm not moving around.

Shoegal: I usually start the leg presses with a higher weight and then drop it down as need be. But I think 10 pounds is as high as I've ever gone, so what you are doing sounds reasonable to me.

Ironlady: belated happy birthday, too. August 23rd is a popular birth day. I know 3 other people born on Aug 23rd.

Laura: I'm just wondering how far outside Boulder do you live? My Colorado geographic knowledge is minimal at best. Are you higher up in altitude at your house? How does the higher altitude affect your workouts, if at all? Just wondering.

Hi to Janie and Laura.
~michelle

Last night I did Qi Gong for lower back pain with Lee Holden - I really liked the exercises - some were just weird but fun and the entire program seemed to fly by. They had this "Partner Massage" in the menu section that I watched - then convinced my DH to do. At one point you are laying on your stomach and your partner bends your knees so that your feet are up in the air - and then he sits on them (not his whole weight) and bends over until he reaches your back to gently apply some pressure on either side of the spine. It felt great. I'd like it done again.

Tonight I take a dive into the slow & heavy series.

I have some weekend plans - the weekends are all full up - geeze!!!
My work is having a softball game & picnic that I'd like to go to on Saturday and then on Sunday my sister Kelly likes to throw her puppy (Harold) an annual birthday party. So it has turned into a little all around Dog birthday party at my house. I sort of consider my house to be "dog paradise" (water nearby, acres to run around in, critters to bark at, then very comfortable sleeping conditions - my bed of course) so what more could a puppy want? This shindig happens every year around this time. It supposed to happen this Sunday. Trouble is - this entire weekend's forecast is just all full of rain!!!

Laura - glad your visit turned out well with your Aunt. Don't beat yourself for quitting!!!! Some days you have too. There are good days and bad days (as I'm sure you know). On those bad days I put in the tape despite this horrible feeling that I'm just not up to it - and if within 5 minutes I still feel that way - I stop. I know it is one of those days. Some days though - I'm like it's late, I'm tired, I'd rather do something else - I put in the tape and zoom through it and it was great. You just never know.

Michelle - I'd like to get PowerMax. (one I don't have!!!) I just want to know why - despite my best intentions - I feel like I need to own every workout Cathe has made - I didn't want to do that to myself - but here I am - doing it. Oh well - glad it went well - and glad that Ripken was there to supervise, so to speak.

Janie, Shadowpup & Ironlady - you guys must be busy - well shout out to you guys!!

Over & out!!

Evening Everyone,

Decided after Chasie went home, to go to a river (over 150 miles away) to pick up some river basalt rock to massage Joey with. Got some big ones for the back and the small of the back, but I must say, I think I could do better at the ocean.

If you've ever had a heated basalt rock message, then you know how important it is that they are smooth. If you haven't then GET ONE! It's like heaven.

Haven't read the personals yet, need to catch up here first. I will though, promise. Tomorrow.;)

Take care everyone, I'm going to bed.

Janie

This morning I did pyramid upper body. I forgot how fast Cathe moves through all the exercises, but I kept up and got through the biceps at the end using 12 pounds on the peak end of the pyramid. Yeah! Felt good. Ripken joined me for the stretch. Something about that stability ball--he thinks he needs to join in the fun. Of course, I'm always happy to oblige my pup.

Shoegal: speaking of pups. A doggie birthiday party sounds like fun. I'v never done that although I have to admit I thought about it when Ripken was younger. He gets to see his doggie buddies here at home and the at the marina all the time, so I like to think everyday has a moment with a little bit of party in it for him. I only see one glitch in your weekend plans: no boating. Hmmm. On the topic of wanting to own every Cathe dvd: I hear ya. Just in case, Powermax is on Cardio Hits. Truth is that in a little over a year and a half, I have managed to accumulate just about every one. The trick is doing all the workouts--as I always say, so many Cathes, so little time. BTW, you're going to love slow and heavy.

Janie: you and Joey sound like teenagers. So wonderfully sweet.

Looking like some rain in the mid-Atlantic later today and maybe tomorrow. We need it.

Hope everyone has a great day.
~michelle

Yesterday the day kind of got away from me and I never got around to posting. Sunday, I ended up being lazy and doing nothing but relaxing. Yesterday, we got back to the house late and I squeezed in the total body sculpt routine from the Low Impact Step dvd. Only 30 minutes, but that was all I had to spare and was saving cardio for today. This morning I did Cardio & Weights. It's been a while since I've done a circuit workout and I'm thinking that the circuit workouts make me sweat more than anything.

Janie: your little guy sure is cute. Who is stirring the hot tub? And is that your Joey in the last picture? My Joe firmly believes that I have too many exercise dvds and they are almost all Cathes. I'm afraid if I ordered INSANE that Joe would label me so for eternity. Better to live vicariously through you guys on that one.~michelle
Michelle, Looks like you are listening to your body resting when you feel it and exercising when you can. Circuit w/o makes me sweat buckets too.

Last night I did a pre mix from Step Jump & Pump - yes that fun dancey step workout I had done from Timesaver was from that workout. It was a pre mix - a circuit weight & step. I really sweat up a storm - I agree Michelle - I think I sweat more from a circuit workout than anything else. I felt weak and listless to tell you the truth. I struggled all the way through but kept pushing myself - I think I need too.
Shoegal, I'll take a look at your pictures when I'm done here. Can't wait! You are having a lot of fun with your workouts. Way to go! I think you will enjoy a Sept. rotation.

Janie, I promised to tell you about it, so apologies to all if this gets a little long...

And, then we finished, and then we stretched, and I found a water bottle and my favorite carbs (hot cocoa), and then we were done. I spiked up to 90 percent HR, burned about as much in 45 minutes as I usually do with an intense CardioCoach over the course of an hour ... and that was with breaks. This is a workout to grow with.

And now I see my husband driving back, so had best go see what political thingie got decided.
Deborah, You are Insane! Well done by the way. That was some kind of workout. Congratulations!:) Thank you so much for the in depth review of Insanity. You must tell us again the next time you do another. I'm going to have to get this, don't know how yet, but...even the warm up scares me (just a little);) I have Cardio Coach, so I know what you mean when you express in colors. Love workouts to grow with! Love the calorie burn. How many DVD's/workouts did you get?

Speaking of ME--that's what I did this morning. I have to remember that endurance translates to lower weights and faster reps. WooWee! And the beloved leg presses--I know I will be feeling those later today. I'm already feeling my triceps. And I think the ab segment on ME is one of Cathe's best. She really targets in on getting the crunch done with the correct form. Super ab burner.~michelle
Michelle, ME is a great endurance w/o that's for sure. You did a fantastic job at it!;)

Shoegal, Good job on the workout. I just love Cathe's DVD's. They are the best out there, aren't they?

Laura, Glad to see you are listening to your body. Quiting sometimes is a good thing. Good for you for doing that. Did you enjoy the party?

Michelle, Good workout! Ripken sounds like a delightful dog.

Shoegal, Qi Gong, sounds like a great exercise program for your back. Need to do that sometime down the road. I'll look it up. A dog birthday party. How cool is that? I hope you have great weather.

This morning I did pyramid upper body. I forgot how fast Cathe moves through all the exercises, but I kept up and got through the biceps at the end using 12 pounds on the peak end of the pyramid. Michelle, Good job on the PUB. Can I borrow Ripken for a little while?LOL:). He sounds so adorable. Joey and I are young at heart.

Happy Belated Birthday IronLady!

Thought I'd put this out there.

Our Chasie's dad (Sid) will be visiting us this weekend. Almost a year ago he had a stomach ache that just wouldn't go away. He went to the doctors and the doc prescribed him three medications for it even though he didn't know what was wrong with Sid. Sid took it for about 2 or 3 months. He got addicted to it, is off the meds now for about 6 months. His withdrawals are horrible and is still in the withdrawals stage for another 6 or so months. That is why we are taking care of Chase a little more than usual. Sid is having such a hard time coping in life. He can't do anything without being frightened or agitated or his body hurting, and crying throughout the day. Sid is driving Tina (our daughter, and the one stirring the pot in the pictures) nuts. So he will be staying with us throughout the weekend. Don't get me wrong, Tina is one strong lady (and a model for a wife), but all this is beginning to bring her down.

Sid use to exercise with weights, had huge muscles, run, play, happy go lucky, has a business that now his Tina is running. Smart as a wip and now just watches cartoons or children's movies, because anything else will or can upset him for the rest of the day. Now he is as I stated above, his body frail and no muscles. It is so sad. But, there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel. He will get better. We are all looking for that day to come to him. Poor guy.

Perhaps some good vibes or prayers their way?

Thanks a bunch guys.

Janie

Hi everyone! Yesterday I ended up teaching my Pilates class and then doing 4DS Kickboxing. I am going to to do that series for the next few days....I also meet with my fitness instructors at the Gilpin County Recreation Center to do the P90X fitness test to get ready to start that program! We all did well on the test so that is good! One of the test is to see how many reps you can do with a chosen wait for Biceps curls, the idea is to go to failure, I choose 12 lbs, and after 45 reps :eek:I finally said this is ridiculous and quit! My co-workers were getting impatient! The next closer was 20 reps with 12lbs which was done to failure! So thank you to Cathe!!

I think I will do the LIS from 4DS split today....

Read the personals I agree with everyone that it is hard not to want every workout DVD Cathe has ever done! I am restraining myself though still saving up for STS. $ is very tight for us right now and I will have to content myself with what I have in the mean time!

Last night - S&H biceps & triceps - yep - enjoyed it - surprisingly it was a bunch of fun. I found Amy Bento's slo & heavy to be excuriatingly slow and boring - not this!!! Somehow Cathe just brightens it all up - and I was surprisingly in line with some of her weight choices.

Nobody going all the way to Daytona to try out to be in a Cathe video? I think it would be a thrill - but no - I don't think I'm camera ready just yet.

Michelle - yes, we thought of the no boating thing - and decided that if weather allows we would head up to the boat tonight!! There is an entire Catalina club at the marina - they stay up there all weekend long. It really doesn't seem like they actually sail very often though.

Janie - well Sid needs kindness and compassion - and it sounds like you are there to help with that. I can well understand that Tina is suffering too - this isn't an easy thing to deal with. He is in my prayers - as well as his entire family. (((HUGS))) to you Janie for being there for him as well.

Laura - You know - you can't realize your own strength unless you compare it to other people - or how fit you are for that matter. Good job - 45 reps is a lot!!! I'm positive you'll do exceptionally well at P90x.

Ok - going to start my weekend - I have lots and lots to do. I will be doing some CLEANMAX and GARDENMAX to ready for the festivities. Hope everybody has a good one.

Janie--how sad for Sid and your family. Sometimes the cures for our ills end up being worse than the original illness. It sounds like everyone is pulling together to help your son-in-law, daughter, and grandson to get through this. Think how much harder it would be if they had no family support at all. You all are truly a blessing.

Shoegal--enjoy the weekend, but it sounds like you might need a day off on Monday to recuperate.

Laura, Can't go wrong with 4DS. Great workout. OOOOO, P90X. Challenging and effective. After Cathe, as you know already, you'll find more exercises that you will need heavier weight with, besides bicep curls. Have fun, Tony is a hoot.

Shoegal, S&H is a great workout, and you in line with Cathe's weight choices is fantastic. Great job. I would try out for Daytona, but I think the camera wouldn't like me. Too many wrinkles.:pLOL Thank you for the prayers and hugs for our family. This will certainly help.

Janie--how sad for Sid and your family. Sometimes the cures for our ills end up being worse than the original illness. Michelle, Thank you for your encouragement. He came over last night and is doing better this morning. But, of course, it is bad days and good days. I have a plan to give my Joey and Sid a hot stone message today. It should help Sid feel better.

Will talk again soon,

Janie

Hello All! Thanks so much for the Happy Birthdays! Yes it was a good day... of course we went out to eat! Brazilian Steakhouse where they keep bringing skewers of meat ( all kinds, bacon wrapped chicken, steak, lamb) and a really wonderful salad bar that includes asparagus, hearts of palm and oh so much more! But, it was so wonderful!

I have been so exhausted from work but, next week is a new week and one of the ladies I work with is going to start walking with me after work a couple of nights. I really miss having someone to walk with! Will at least get some good cardio in then!

Read through the personals, everyone is doing so GREAT!!!! Sorry I have been MIA... I will try to be better about checking in!

Have a great weekend!

Hi all,

I ran out of town again on Wednesday, back last night a minute after midnight. Whew! It was an intense trip; I was running a workshop with some really stellar people and it was wonderful - I am now drained. The facility was made up a conference center and individual cabins, very private. There was a gym near our facility, which I used twice (CardioCoach) and took a scheduled rest day for day three. The gym was a nice one, one of the Kari Anderson gyms - and we had free access through the workshop facility. But ... I had a slightly creepy experience. Some guy a bit older than me came in about the same time I did, and I didn't think much of it except that he was a bit closer in line than he needed to. And then he was working out/stretching out in my vicinity longer than normal. Day 2, he showed up *again*, then followed me out. I stopped under a light and called my husband and had a longish conversation where I pretended he was going to come and get me. And then I went back into my cabin and locked it up tight. Maybe my imagination, but I was getting a really weird vibe. Overall, though, a very nice meeting and a good reminder about why I'm grateful to have my own workout space! I am not used to being watched like that. Businesspeople in hotels normally have no time for watching others when it is 6am!

Thought I'd put this out there.

Our Chasie's dad (Sid) will be visiting us this weekend. Almost a year ago he had a stomach ache that just wouldn't go away. Absolutely, prayers and good vibes for all of you, Janie. What a tough situation for everyone. Six months of withdrawal ... how horrible!!! Your family is so lucky to have you and your Joey, standing by them through these difficulties.

Hi to everyone else! I'm still waking up after the late night

Happy belated birthday! It sounds like you had a great time :) Those Brazilian Steakhouses are really something - went once with a group, and it was amazing how many different tastes you can get on a meat skewer!!! Sounds like a terrific birthday treat.

It should be fun having someone to walk with - and good for your companion, too! BTW, how is DD doing? We haven't heard about her in awhile.

Hi all, hope you don't mind the repeated posts, but the last few times I've tried to catch up all at once and end up not posting anything :(:(:( New strategy here :) :) :)

Hi Everyone, just caught up on the personals! I had a really very nice visit with my Aunt and she really enjoyed the girls. It was very short and I did not work out at all Saturday or Sunday. So I didn't get a work out in today! I am debating doing one now, but it is late.....

Hope to be back for personals! I did read them all...and Shadowpup I am so jealous you have Insanity!!!:eek::eek::eek:

Laura, My weights go down when I've overtrained or am feeling ill ... or have overdone the cardio! hopefully you're getting enough rest. Visitors can be fun but also draining. It's great that you had such a good time with your Aunt, though. And ... really, really, really sensible to stop when your body is warning you. Injuries happen when you push beyond limits. And, wish you were closer, and we could share Insanity! Woudln't it be fun to have a way to do all together in a kind of virtual group??? I'm sure the technology for that will be coming reasonably soon, since it's not that different from what the wii does or the multiplayer games.

Today I am supposed to do STS M3W3, and I might do an Insanity also. Yesterday was an active rest day (just shy of 10k steps, got home and was going to polish off the last 500 steps when my pedometer flipped over to midnight, sigh, and I was back ot zero. Ah well. It was close.

Ok - going to start my weekend - I have lots and lots to do. I will be doing some CLEANMAX and GARDENMAX to ready for the festivities. Hope everybody has a good one.

Shoegal, sounds like your weekend is going to be a a busy one! Hope you're enjoying it as well as working around the house.

It will be interesting to hear aboutthe tryouts in Daytona. I'd guess that will be one tough competition! Maybe someday a road trip, but not Daytona for me.

BTW, that's a pretty boat name - sounds like a woman's name. Are boats often renamed by new owners, or do they usually stay with the original ... ?

I just finished 4DS Bootcamp & Biceps & Tricpes and tagged on the abs I did not do yesterday from the LIS because they were still sore! Tough workout and I don't feel like I did that well today but at least I got through it!

Ironlady: Happy Birthday!! Sounds like you had a great time, the meal sounds delicious! I love walking with a friend, it is such a nice way to get to spend time together and get your cardio in as well!

Janey: I am so sorry to hear about your son-in-law, that is so sad, medical prescriptions are really very dangerous sometimes. I know a few people who have become very addicted to them and they have ruined their lives. It is so sad. My thoughts will be with you and your family, and they are lucky to have you and your Joey to help out, I am sure he will make it though this!

Shadowpup: Yep, that is a scary experience with that creepy guy at the gym! It is good to go with your instincts and to be pre-cautious better safe than sorry. I hope I am back on track soon, hate this dragging feeling... I took 3 days off last week and a half incase it was over training but don't feel better for it.

Shoegal: Those slow and heavy seem pretty popular! I am glad you are enjoying your new purchases! Seems like your back has calmed down which I am sure you are happy about! Enjoy that cleanmax and gardenmax!

Michelle: ME is a great workout! And I am sure that scrubbing the boat is hard work as well! I live outside of Boulder, about 45 minutes, into the mountains, my house is at 9,500 feet and I definitely feel the altitude when I workout! Hard to breath during IMAX! LOL!!

Today was a clean the boat day. Worked on the cockpit and the swim platform. We have a beautiful teak swim platform that need a good scrub every once in a while. Still have a little fine tuning to do on that, but its looking good.;)

Shadowpup: trust those instincts girl. If something feels creepy, it probably is. You can never be too safe.

Laura: Almost 10,000 feet above sea level--I bet those IMAX workouts are tough at that altitude. I previewed IMAX 3 today and I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to get through it. I can get through IMAX and IMAX 2 but I have to take it down a notch at different points. Something to keep working on.

Janie: coming to your house to visit sounds like therapy in and of itself. But a massage on top of it--you are just too good.

Ironlady: we've missed hearing from you. It's nice to have a walking buddy--walking is a great way to get a little extra push on your exercise. The steak house sounds really yummy.

Boat names: common boating lore is that it is bad luck to change the name of a boat once it is named. Our previous boat, we changed the name. The current boat, we kept the name. I think it is really a matter of preference. Bottom line is that any boat owner is going to spend a small fortune on the boat one way or the other.

have a great evening everyone.
