Getting Our Licks In!

Didn't do much today since our power went out all day. We are one of the lucky poeple to have our power restored so soon. Others will have to wait 2-3 more days at least. I have a couple of photos where hopefully you can see the ice on top of the snow. Erie to say the least with a halo of ice surrounding everything you see outside.

Laura, With the Paleo diet, I'm finding my skin is soooo sooooo much better. Amazing actually. What a nice surprise, no one told me that would happen. And of course I'm losing more than I though I would in such a short period of time. Not hungry either. Great job on low intensity on the elliptical. You did good. If you are still not feeling better it's wise to see the doctor.

Tonight I did STS disc 4, back and triceps. I can hear DOM's coming very soon. LOL:) Last night I went to bed early about 1:30 am. I heard a loud crack and something loud hitting the ground and making our house shake. I got up and told Joey. This morning there was half a small tree down and only about 50 feet from me and my bed. All that racket and it was soooo small. Glad I wasn't under it though. Deadly to say the least.

Take care guys,

Janie

Hi everyone--it turned into a very busy week and I just didn't get a chance to post. I didn't sleep very well Tuesday night. My friend Janet who has ocular melanoma is having a tough time. The lesions on her liver are not responding to treatment and she is no longer in any clinical trial. I don't know what her options are at this time. When I called her Tuesday evening to see how she was, she was too upset to talk. Then I watched the Black Swan on HBO--which is a very disturbing movie--and between the stupid movie and worrying about Janet, sleep was nonexistent. Wednesday, we finished our meetings at Fort Bragg and drove back to Northern Virginia. It was a long exhausting day. Thursday, I was back to my normal routine: wake up, walk Ripken, exercise, work, come home, eat, relax, sleep. And I slept very well. Thursday I did Athletic Training, yesterday was STS disc 25 (chest and back), and today was STS disc 26, plyo legs. We had a little snow and ice overnight and then it turned to rain. It is just cloudy now. Sidewalks and roads are clear.

Janie: I'm glad you and Joey are safe and have your electricity back on. THAT is alot of snow out there and very dangerous when it melts and then refreezes. Hopefully, it will warm up and the snow will go away. The good news is that you are losing weight and exercising--SUPER!

Laura: you definitely have something strange going on with your health. I know it's hard for you to just crawl into bed and get better because your family depends on you, but feeling better one day and then feeling not so good the next has got to be getting old for you. I hope you are able to kick this "thing" soon.

So--I'm going to hop in the shower and get cleaned up--then I'm going to work on continuing to organize to do taxes. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? But, I figure if I do a little each weekend, by the end of the month, I will be ready to sit down at the computer and input the information on the tax software and be done with it.

Stay warm and Ripken says to be sure to get your licks in.

So I went for a walk Friday morning and I had planned on doing some Pilates between clients, but I got a call from Sophia from school saying she didn't feel well, so I went and picked them both up and headed home. I was hoping to workout yesterday but somehow it never happened.... I did go bak to the Dr on Friday saying I still wasn't better and I was told to give the antibiotics more time and given an inhaler. But even this morning I woke up all stuffy and caughing :-( I have to teach tomorrow ..

Janey: yes that s serious snow! Losing power sure reminds us of all the comoros we take for granted! I am glad he tree didn't crash through the house. Great job on losing weight!!! Now I am motivated to get serious!

Michelle: nice to hear from you. I am sorry to hear about your friend. The Black Swan is terribly disturbing. Glad you got a good night sleep the next night.

Another cold and dreary day here in Virginia. Kind of been drizzling off and on all day and the temps are hovering just above freezing so the morning could be interesting. Today I did Slide and Glide--that is one fun workout--the more I do it, the more I like it. I particularly like the burpees and jumping jacks.:)

Tomorrow I head for New Orleans for a couple of days to attend a conference. Temps are supposed to be in the 60s and 70s down there. Looking forward to warmer weather, not looking forward to being away from home.

Laura: hope you are feeling better after a few more days of antibiotics and using the inhaler. I also hope the girls don't have anything too serious. At least it is the weekend and maybe they will not have to miss any school.

Janie: it is so great that you are back in the exercise and diet routine. I can here the happiness in your posts.

Hey! Felt a little better today, I taught a tough Pilates Class, which I did as well, and than taught an even tougher Boot Camp class, but I didn't do the High intensity cardio drills, I just did the leg conditioning drills with them, since I am still pretty breathless.

Michele: I have only done Slide & Glide once but I liked it too! I love the turbo bar and you could travel with that one easily and just do the leg drills.

Sorry for being MIA. I've been so busy that time got away from me. Mostly cleaning our house here in the woods. Then of course doing Disc 6, legs yesterday and today treadmill on 3.5 for 30 min., with an incline.

I'll get back tomorrow,

Janie

Wanted you all to know about the Paleo Diet: Here is a link to get you on the right track for a life supporting way of eating. I can't find a better diet than this.

Paleodiet Foods

The list says some foods the cave men didn't eat are nutritious. They may be, but don't put them in your diet, especially Legumes. It is not a true statement, but the list of foods are right on.

Will be back after my exercises.

I'm Back: Did disc 7, chest, shoulders and biceps. I'm tired of pushups!

Enjoy life.

While on this Paleo Diet, I haven't felt this good since I was diagnosed with GERD. IT WORK! For me that is. No more DGL, Papaya Enzyme, or Zantack (nasty stuff!) I'm in 7th heaven, lots of energy and in a wonderful mood! Today I did Hiit 30/30. Will also be going to the beach house this Sun. and won't be back until Wed. I can't wait to get more painting done. We ventured out today for the first time since the snow storm, and bought lots of stuff for the diet, since it works so well for me. Joe wants to get into it to. But he's having a hard time letting rice, beans and pasta we bought awhile ago not using it. I told him we can save these foods in case there is a disaster because we can't get the Paleo food anyways if and when that should happen. Most likely it won't but it's good to be prepared anyways. He seems to be fine with that. But I'll cook up those things for him lots of times anyway, just so he'll feel better about it, but I won't be eating it. No way, now that I have this awful GERD in control now. YippY! I really was not liking the way I was feeling and truly struggled with it. It's in the past and so grateful for Cathe turning me on to it. I'll have to let her know how she changed my life to livable again.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Well the licks keep on coming and unfortunately I am not talking about sweet puppy licks...Monday night after class I rolled my car on a mountain highway, it was a bad accident and it left me unconscious for an undetermined amount of time but somewhere in the ball park of 2-3 hours and I have amnesia
:(:( so I don't remember right before the accident or afterwards. I have a bad concussion, a black eye, bruises everywhere but nothing else. I am lucky to be alive and walking and talking. I am seeing a brain specialist today so I will know more later, but she already told me no exercise for at least TWO WEEKS!!! Ugh! On top of the holiday, my illness, now this!!!!

Janie: Wow that is so cool to have that unexpected side effect of the Paleo Diet fixing your GERD! You should definitely tell Cathe and you should also tell your DR so they might be able to tell other people with the same illness that this might help them too! With no exercise on tap for awhile I have to get serious about trying Paleo!

Did Disc 8, Chest and Triceps.

Laura, OMG! What an awful experience! I'm so glad you are alive! (((((hugs and prayers your way)))))! Will you get your memory back? Thank God also there were no broken bones. OMG! You are in my thoughts. Try to heal as fast as you can. Keep us in the loop about the brain specialist.

Janie

Laura--Thank goodness you are alive--and no broken bones. Is your memory loss just focused on right before the accident and right after? It sounds like it is. That might be your mind's way of letting you heal without having to deal immediately with the trauma of what happened. At least, I hope that is the case. Going two weeks without exercise will seem like an eternity, but you shouldn't mess around with a bad concussion. Give your body time to heal and then you can pick up with exercising. I'm just so thankful that you are okay.

Janie: sounds like things continue to go well with the paleo diet. I was on travel to New Orlean this week and seriously fell off the bandwagon when it came to eating. The restaurants down there are just so good--I will get back on my normal eating track this weekend.

I finished up the 3rd week of the 1st month of the 3 1/2 month transformation rotation. One more week to go and I will actually be home all week. Everybody take care--

What a nice Sunday. A little on the cool side this morning, but good for a long walkabout with Ripken. Trying to get him back in walking shape--with my travels the past two weeks, we haven't been able to stick to our regular walking schedule. Did STS disc 17, Legs, today. By coincidence, so did Sister--even though we are doing different rotations. The Joe and I spent a good part of the afternoon trying to decide where we want to go on vacation in the Caribbean this year. It was fun to surf the web with my sugarbean--we've narrowed things down a little. Now Joe will get on the phone and start working a deal. He's a salesman at heart--working deals is what he does best.

Hope everyone is doing well. Laura--continue to rest and heal. Janie--hope you are enjoying the beachhouse.

One more day of winter and then springtime will return to Virginia for a few days. Got to love it. This morning after a lovely walk with my best four-legged buddy, Ripken, I did Athletic Training. YOWEE! STS disc 17 legs yesterday with AT today--and my legs are oh so happy. My bonus was a happy puppy face hanging out with me during the ab work and stretch.

Have a great day everyone!
Michelle

Well I really scrambled my brain! I made bacon the other morning for the girls breakfast, walked out f the kitchen, did a few tasks, came in to flip the bacon & there was no bacon in the pan, but the eye was on. That's a little scary, lots of incidents like that, so I am having to be very careful. Trying to rest but find it very challenging.

Thanks Michelle, I am so thankful to be ok for the most part! Jealous of your workouts. Misty is being very sweet and staying close by me!

Hi friends!

I have become a lurker. I stop by and read the posts, but don't post anything. Sorry.

I am halfway through STS. I will be finishing the second week of mesocycle 2 this week. I started it during my two weeks off at Christmas. I am really experiencing alot of DOMS. And I like it! My knee strength and cardio endurance improves daily/weekly/monthly. I still need to drop the weight I gained from sitting on my butt for so long, feeling sorry for myself. But the weight will come off. NOTE: Don't ever tear your ACL/MCL!!!!

Laura, I sure hope you get better. Listen to the doctor and do what he tells you. Don't rush recovery...its not worth the set backs!!

Janie, the Paleo Diet looks like something I have done in the past. Looks like eating "clean" which I try to do but I am not always successful at. Congratulations on your successes!

OH! Sister and I are going to the NJ road trip. We are in! Signing up for that thing is so stressful. I had to sign both of us up from my computer (again). Michelle's link never works. And mine was painfully slow. BUT we are in!!! Hooray!!

Stay the course....

~Renee

I am back from the beach house and painted primer in the bathroom. It took me two days to do all that. It's not like a regular room. Anyhoo, will finish painting it next week sometime or the next time I'm there. Sunday was legs and today was disc 10 chest, shoulders and biceps and abs. I went shopping and purchased for the beach house a platform bed with drawers under it. Joey will be working on my bedroom floor this week (I think) then we can put that up and will have at least one bed to rest in. We can take turns. At least until the other bedroom is painted and carpeted. Then we'll put a bed in that room too. It all takes time. Always a lot more time than I think doing a project.

Michelle, Spring time already? Enjoy the wonderful weather to come. Great job on the lovely walk with Ripken and AT. And disc 17 the day before. WoW! You did good also doing abs and stretching.

Laura, How is your brain now? I sure hope everything will return to normal. You poor thing. I think of you often. (((((hugs and Prayers))))). It will only take a little time, and you'll be just fine.

Renee, Lurker or not, you know you are always welcome here. Miss you. Great job on halfway through STS. You go get em! I love the sound of knee improving so much. So good to hear that. OH! How Wonderful, that you and your sister will be going on the RT. I can't wait to hear all about it.

Take care,

Janie

The week got busy again but I have been sticking with the workouts. I am finishing up the first month of Cathe's 3 1/2 month transformation rotation. I am so ready for a week of yoga and stretching. I've been 3 months with the new workouts and I think I am going to jump to the February rotation after my "rest week." Cathe developed a lower body focus for February with a little upper body mixed in: it combines workouts across the spectrum of Cathe's library and I am ready for a little more variety. Don't get me wrong. I love the new LIS series, but after 3 months of hitting it hard, it is time to get reacquainted with some of Cathe's other workouts and the February rotation looks like it will do just that for me.

Laura: Boy--you really did scramble your brains. Please be careful and try to take things slow. I am not surprised that Misty is sticking close to you-our pups can tell when things are not quite right and they need to keep an eye on us.

Janie: ya'll keep working away at your beach house and by the time the weather turns to spring in the NW, you will be ready to enjoy it more and work on it less. Are you doing STS again, like sister?

We have had some lovely weather here the past week and although it has cooled off a bit, it is still a little warmer than normal for this time of year. Really just need to get through this month and then we will have turned the corner on winter. So far this has definitely been my kind of winter. The lack of frozen precipitation has been good for Ripken too. My furry friend has slowed down quite a bit and I think lots of snow or ice would be difficult for him. But we still get those long walks in (2-3 miles) every other day. Pretty good for an 11 year old golden retriever. They really do get better with age.

Hope everyone has a good Friday. Reach for the stars and stay safe.
Michelle

The front range got hit by a big snow storm and the girls are home from school so we will have a nice long weekend! My mom left for Mexico for a week yesterday so she just got away in time. Me and the girls are down at her house and DH is up in the Mountains. He said the snow was going over the top of the plow trucks hood!

I have been working on 'office' stuff all day and it nice to get some stuff done. I can't ski so I may as well get something productive done.

I am beginning to feel more like myself lately but still not working out!
I have taken one more week off of teaching but I plan to start doing some gentle exercise next week.

Renne: nice to hear from you! That's exciting about the road trip, I know you missed it last year. Are you doing 3 or 6 months of STS. Hope I don't gain to much weight.

Janey: Michelle is right the place will be perfect in time for summer and winter is a great time to have projects to do! Great job on your exercises!

Michelle: You have given the new workouts a run for their money! It will be fun to do some old favorites! Glad you have enjoyed the winter so far! 6 more weeks according to Punxsutawaney Phil...

Did disc 11, back and triceps. Whew!

Michelle, I love your plan for the next set of workouts. I think too, that since you have worked so hard that this set of workouts will be perfect. You are doing so well! It was a beautiful day here in the Pacific NW today. So nice and warm and sunny. Great job on those long walks with Ripken. Yes, I am doing STS again! Yahoo!

Laura, Looks like you are continuing to bet better. Remember to do as the doc says, and please be patient. Lucky that your mom got out of snow storm in time. But, your poor hubby in the mountains! Do be safe and warm during this Winter. Spring is just around the corner.

Take care,

Janie
