Getting Our Licks In!

Did Hiit 40/20 today. My body was so tired today and of course DOM's big time.:D

Laura, So sorry you are under the weather. Sinus infection and bronchitis sucks. Hope it will be a fast recovery. Rest now. You can get going when you are healthy. I would love it if you could do it with me. WOOHOO! But please, get to feeling better first. The diet consists really of lean meat and non starchy fruits and vegies. Just a little more meat than fruit. I started it yesterday, and I swear, I was so full and didn't eat very much at all. Today, I ate breakfast and didn't start feeling hungry until 3 in the afternoon. I ate then and again at 6:30 and I'm stuffed! I had a banana, and don't know if it's with the program, still have to read a lot yet. I think Cathe meant 3 1/2 month and I plan on doing STS cardios in-between those days.

Take care and feel better soon,

Janie

I've been MIA a couple of days. Had a really long work day on Wednesday--then I didn't feel really great yesterday morning, so I walked Ripken and went back to bed for an hour and a half, then got up and got ready for work, and off I went. I picked back up with the first month of the transformation rotation today: Turbobarre lower body premix. I really like this workout and I almost got through the whole thing without taking an "early" break--only did that on one section--so that is progress. I tell ya, this LIS series has given me perpetually glute DOMs that seem to be deeper in the muscle. Cathe says she knew this series would give us a new level of DOMS and she was not kidding.

Janie: I am not surprised at all that Cathe set up a rotation just for you. I think she is just so dedicated to supporting everyone who is a part of the Cathe Nation. I will have to go take a look at what she suggested for you. I have never heard of the Paleo diet--I will have to check it out. Maybe it would be good for my Joe who I desperately wish I could get to at least go on short walks with me and Ripken. Sounds like you and Joey are experiencing the "joys" of multiple home ownership--always something to deal with....

Laura: sorry to hear that you have been under the weather--it seems like you have been having a steady bout of getting sick and getting better since the girls went back to school. Maybe you have never really gotten over what you had to begin with? I hope this time you kick the germs for good.

Weather here has been like a roller coaster. Yesterday it was 60 degrees! Today it is in the 30s and the wind is blowing big time. It is supposed to be cold over the weekend and then begin moderating again. This has been quite the week. I am looking forward to finishing my kindle book tonight and sleeping in tomorrow morning.

Did STS Meso 1 Back & Triceps. I have to wait tonight to do my Stability Ball Abs. Whew! Will get it done just not now. Whew! Update: Did the Stability Ball Abs, with lots of modification to the last few I did. Couldn't do the last three. No way. I couldn't even attempt them.

DOM's, DOM's, DOM's, they are everywhere.
DOM's, DOM's DOM's, OUCH! Fills the air.
Lourder. Louder. Louder is the blasting blare
and there's no silence in the night.

DOM's, DOM's, DOM's, OUCH! Heard three miles away.
Five. Six. Seven beyond that neighbors say.
DOM's. DOM's multiplying more each workout
and there's no silence in the night.

DOM's, DOM's do try to seek them out.
DOM's. DOM's. DOM's feeling them all about.
Kneed. Kneed. Kneed them and kneed them out.
cause there's no silence in the night.

DOM's. DOM's their bad is only good.
Lifting. Lifting. Lifting with the weight.
No! You say no, but you know Cathe,
and there's no silence in the night.

DOM's. DOM's don't you know the strain?
DOM's DOM's. Please, please, please refrain
and listen (OUCH, OUCH), there they go again. DOM's. DOM's
and there's no silence in the night.

My made up version, of a poem from Red Skelton. LOL:D

Michelle
, Great job on the walk with Ripken and Turbobarre lower body premix. It's so nice to make progress. Congratulations! Hope you are feeling better. Amazing how the weather can be so different daily.

Take care and be careful outside in the weather.

Did the Treadmill for 30 min. A photo of our first snow storm. It's been trying to snow all day, now it really is and sticking. And it's coming down even more than this. Wow! It amazes me every year.

Take care and be safe.

Another cold day. Ick. Not windy like yesterday, but it is cold, cold, cold. Ripken and I did shorter walks today. That's the program when it gets too cold. Cleaned house this morning, then did Afterburn. It's becoming another one of those workouts that I have a love/hate relationship with. I've noticed that I do better on Afterburn when I've had a really nice long sleep night. Still-between turbobarre yesterday and afterburn today, my glutes are experiencing a major "afterburn."

Janie: Your snow picture looks like it is a wet snow. Very pretty though. STS does have that magical DOM effect, doesn't it? I love the stability ball abs from ab circuits. It's one of my favorites.

Watching the Saints play the 49ers. Pretty good game so far. Looking forward to watching Denver play the Patriots tonight. We are rooting for the Broncos.

Still cold here in Virginia, so little Rippy and I are still doing short walks. Today is my sweet pup's birthday. He is 11 years old. Seems like only yesterday, we just got our little fuzz ball--he was just 8 weeks old. He is still the sweetest pup--a little grey around the muzzle, but he is true to the golden retriever breed: always ready to be a clown.

Did STS disc 2 today. I haven't updated my STS spreadsheets from 2 years ago--so I just up the weights to what I feel is good for an endurance workout. Those one-arm tricep pushups at the end of the workout are like putting the cherry on top of the whip cream on the ice cream.

I noticed that SNM posted a thread indicating that Cathe's digital workouts will run on the Kindle Fire--SWEET! I just have to get a kindle to USB cable. Very excited about it--this is like getting another Christmas present.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Stay warm and be sure to get your licks in.
Michelle

Did Meso 1 disc 3, legs. Oh boy. It was hard, but that's a good thing. The stability ball on the wall while going down with weight, I couldn't do. I lost the weight and continued on. Otherwise it wasn't going to happen. I'll be doing a cardio later today and I'll post that when I'm finished doing it.

Michelle, Great job on Clean Max and walking Ripken in the cold weather. I can understand having the walks shorter during this time of year. Also great job on AB. Love/Hate: Perfect description for this DVD. Enjoy your DOM's. It's a good thing. Enjoy watching your games, Joey loves watching them too. Please wish Ripken a Very Happy 11th birthday for me. What a doggie! Great job on today's STS disc 2. OOOOOOo boy, those one arm push ups are HHAARRDD! Or should I say challenging? It's great. Enjoy Cathe on your Kindle Fire. That is sweet.

Take care,

Janie

Happy Birthday Ripkin! Sweet pup!

So I've been good and taken the Dr. Advice and NOT worked out! But I am feeling better! Yesterday I woke up and was lie oh this is what it feels like to have energy! So I haven't posted as there was nothing to report! Bathe girls are skiing while I had private clients this morning. :-(. But I have to teach two classes back to back tonight and skiing on top of that might be to much.....plus my house is a disaster from two weeks of being out of commission, so I am heading home to pick up and put away laundry.....oh well..... Discipline is doing what has to be done when it needs to be done not doing what you want when you want right?

The STS program is tough but brilliant! I hope to restart tomorrow with STS Meso Cycle 1....

Janie: LOVED your DOM 's song!!!

Michelle: yeah my immune system does seem impaired lately.... I need to look into boning it up! Maybe your righ and I never rested sufficiently to recover and it turned into infections, anti-biotics seem to be doing there job. Sometimes I feel guilty about Misty, I have always been so deli gent about walking all my other dogs, but it is such a crazy busy Time in my life I just don't seem to have the time. She does go on p,entry of Walsh with other people though! Because of where we live she isn't penned in and our place is popular for snowshoers so if anyone comes up to snowshoe our place they are escorted by Misty, yesterday she went on two different snow shoes for a total of 4 hours! I know it seems strange to a city person to let our dog gala ant but she totally know where she is and we are surrounded by miles and miles of National forest.....

Hi everyone. I am in lovely Fayetteville, NC. I am travelling with two of my colleagues who are an absolute hoot. Lots of laughing on the drive down. We stopped in Weldon, NC at Ralph's Barbecue for lunch. It is a favorite stop for folks travelling between DC and either Camp Lejeuen or Fayetteville on business. They have a lunch buffet which is always the choice that folks go with. Anyway, I try to be good: have a salad and then a not too huge plate of barbecue with veggies and slaw, plus lots of sweet ice tea (when in the south, you have to have the sweet ice tea). My travel colleagues were not as restrained: 3 trips each to the buffet!!!!! Ah well, we are next to a mall. I think some shopping--oops I mean walking--might be in order.

Speaking of walking: Ripken and I did a long walk this morning even though it was COLD. But I felt guilty knowing I would be away from home for a couple of days, so I indulged the pup. The walk felt good up until about the last 15 minutes when my double-gloved hands started to get cold. After coming in from the walk, I did LIS LIC. Great cardio workout. Next couple of days will be yoga days. Then back to the rotation.

Laura: taking a break from exercise and getting 110 percent well sounds like a good plan. I would love it if we lived where Ripken could roam and still be safe, but that just isn't an option in suburbia. Misty is a lucky pup--I bet you have people who come up around your house to snowshoe just so they can see her. That's like a bonus--getting to spend time with such a sweet dog.

Janie: STS plus cardio--wow, that sounds great! The stability ball on the wall is always a challenge--no shame in doing that exercise without weights. Yowza! And I guess you just did those one arm pushups too, so you know how much fun they are.

I did 30 min. on the treadmill at 3.3 mph. Nice sweat going on. We now have about 4" of snow and weather man is predicting 13" for Shelton tomorrow. Wow! There is still even more snow coming during the next 3-4 days. Not nice for commuters. Very lucky that we are retired and don't have to drive in this mess. Perhaps 24" before before the storms are done.

Laura, Good you are taking advice from the doctor. You'll be up and doing the workouts soon. Glad you decided not skiing and concentrate on your house. Good girl. I know how frustrating it is. If you are feeling well enough for STS, go for it.

Michelle, Love it when you can travel with co-workers. Sounds like fun! Great job on the long walk with Ripken. You are braving the cold weather. Brrrrrrrrr. Also great job on LIS LIC

Take care all and safe,

Janie

Suppose to be my rest day. I'm thinking of doing a Cardio Coach later today. We'll see, if I do I'll post it. So much snow fallen during the night that our animal enclosure lost its roof. It happened the last time it snowed like this too. Animals can't get out, that's what is important. We have at least 10" on the ground and suppose to have 13 more inches today and tomorrow. We'll see. WOW! If that happens it will hit a record high! I have photos at the end of the post.

400561393.jpg

Wanted to show the beauty and the calm before the storm. It's getting darker as I type.
400561391.jpg

This is how much snow (10") we have now, should be a lot more in the next couple of days. It is now snowing again.

Take care, stay safe and warm,

Janie

Good day of meetings today. Did YogaMax premix 1 this morning. Was just about the right amount of time--32 minutes. It is windy here but 62 degrees. I will take this weather any day in January.

Janie: I had looked at the weather for ya'll and saw that you were forecast to get quite a bit of snow and it looks like you are. If you get 13+ more inches, that's alot of snow for ya'll, isn't it? I hope you have some teenagers handy to help clear it, because shovelling that much snow is not fun. When we get snow like that, I either end of shovelling after 4-6 inches falls, or we pay a neighborhood teenager to shovel. Personally, I prefer paying the teengager to shovel, but if Ripken and I need to get out to walk--which of course, we do--then I usually end of doing some shovelling. Anyway--ya'll be careful with all that snow--don't need to throw out your back or fall and hurt something.

Michelle

Michelle, Great job on YogaMax pre. today. 62 degrees, you are sooooo lucky. Enjoy that weather! That is walking weather or outside activities weather. Lucky! Yes, the snow isn't like this every year. Only every now and then. Some years we don't get snow, but most years it snows followed by rain. This is unusual. We are retired and will wait until the snow melts. It will take awhile, but we have lots of food, snowshoes and it we want to journey out, it will be only for fun.

Thank you for your concern, we'll stay warm and healthy. Besides I have lots of Cathe workouts to do anyway, no excuses. :D

Take care and enjoy that weather you lucky bum,

Janie

I ended up taking the last two days off of work, still a little down and out, but I am beginning to feel more like myself everyday. I will teach my Total Tone class tonight an depending on how I feel might start working out tomorrow.:D

I went to a lovely dinner party for a friend of mine last night. They had a catered sit down dinner at their home which was really a wonderful way to have a party, you don't have to deal with the noise and distraction of a busy restaurant, but you don't have to deal with hosting either! It was a long lesiurly meal with good company. Everyone brought poetry to share which was also a nice touch.

The girls are both in the Story Book Ballet, which this year is Alice in Wonderland, and so we are already busy every Sunday with Rehearsals. And their school started off with a big state report project. So we have been busy with that.

Michelle: the weather is so inconsistent this year isn't it? From hot to cold and cold to hot. It is no wonder that some many flus are going around. I am afraid there won't be much of a spring bloom this year. Good job on enjoying some good ol' southern BBQ without going crazy! And yes I agree you MUST have sweet tea when in the south! Good job on your walks and workouts!

Janie: wow snow! And I imagine it is heavy wet snow too! Be careful if you shovel! Good to see you being so diligent with your new goals and fitness rotation. How is the diet going? I haven't been diligent about diet, being sick makes it harder.... I keep going from having no appetite to being starving!

Did STS disc 4, shoulders, chest and triceps. I'll be doing abs tonight. Here is our latest photo of snow. It's really deep now, 15".
400584507.jpg

Laura, I'm sorry you are not feeling very well, but glad it's better. (Hugs).
The dinner at your friends house sounds so intimate and a wonderful way to spend an evening. Ooooo, Alice and Wonderland for your girls sounds fantastic! Our days warm off after a huge storm then it starts to melt and during the night it freezes. Very dangerous conditions. It will happen again I think tomorrow, they say, but then again, it's a little confusing. We'll see. Can't get TV, so are watching series. It's really nice. Staying in, warm and safe. And I'm not shoveling anything! Don't even want to.:) My diet is going really well. I'm losing! Happy days! Your poor body, it's trying to heal it's self. Be patient, I know it's hard.

Take care,

Janie

That's weird I posted this morning but now I isn't showing up! I don't know what happened to it....

So tonight I taught Total Tone. It felt really good to move again even if I am not 110% yet! Not exercising is a slippery slope! I know it is important to rest & recover especially when you are sick but energy also begets energy and lying around begets more lying around! It is hard to get the moment to move again. Between the holidays and this illness I definitely feels like I am quickly sliding back on my exercises gains! :-(

I will try and do something tomorrow maybe even ski if the weather is nice. We had hurricane force winds here today which isn't much fun! The wind really gets to me....

Janie: wow that is a lot of snow! I bet it is heavy, wet snow too, unlike the dry, light 'champagne' snow we often get here. Heavy snow can do a lot of damage to out buildings & backs!!!!! You are doing a great job following through on your Cathe Rotation! How's the diet?

Michelle: great job on enjoying a reasonable amount of good ol'southern BBQ with out going hog wild! And I agree sweet tea is a must whie in the south! ;-) are you loving the new series???? Maybe I will try After Burn tomorrow believe it or not I still haven't done that one and it is he rave on all the forums!!

Did one of ab hits tonight.

Laura, It's a mix of wet snow and powdered snow, but mostly wet. I don't like losing posts either. It's OK, just continue on like it never happened, if you can. Great job on teaching TT. If you think you are ready to exercise then do it. It's OK Laura, I feel the same way about exercise gains. When I TBS with Joey and that's all we did, I slid really badly. I guess I wanted an easy excuse not to exercise so much. Well, not any longer. Get going with me, we'll get the gains back soon. We may have different exercises, but we both are exercising. Right? (A little cheering here and support). The wind really gets to me too. Do something indoors. I'm doing a Paleo Diet, as Cathe suggested. First time I think she may have done that. So taking advantage of it. I'm losing. It's a high protein diet, but you can eat as much fruit and vegies as you like. No potatoes, certain oils... I bought the book and cookbook as well. Love it, never hungry unless you make yourself hungry. It's different from the Atkins diet I'm sure. (At least I think so, really don't know Atkins). The first few days made me really really tired. But now it's just fine.

Take care of yourself,

Janie

So terribly windy and still not 110%, so did 30 minutes low intensity on elliptical just to get the blood flowing. I made another appointment with the Dr because I should be feeling better by now.....

Janie: I think I might check out that Paleo diet.
