Getting Our Licks In!

Hi Ya'll,

I did STS Meso Cycle 2 Week 4 Back & Biceps at the Rec. In Boulder. I am glad I got that in because I had a microbrasions facial & peel and the lady told me not to exercise heavily afterward, which I didn't know! Anyway I teach my weight lifting class tonight, so I will take it easy & walk @ the room a lot.

Janie: moving big furniture is never fun! I know that Weight Watchers has a great success record and is the easiest "diet" in "real" life but I have never tried it before.... Good luck!

I've been "biking" for four days straight now. Yesterday the digital readout said 10 miles in 40 minutes. Definately feeling it in both legs. I have my first PT (physical therapy) today, so I will probably NOT ride the bike. I doubt I would have done it anyway, since my knee is saying "HEY!"

I've slept pretty good the last two nights. Wondering why that is, but I'll take it! Nights with so-so sleep pretty much stinks.

There are only 37 more days of school. I can't believe how fast it has gone. School wise, it has been a pretty good one. Health wise...eh, there have been issues for sure.

I hope you all know how much I appreciate you. I try to read the posts every day, but do not always post, since there really isn't much new going on. Take care and God bless.

~Renee

Well, I had a nice post going yesterday and I lost it. Never got back to post again. Ripken and I had really nice long walks yesterday and today. Tomorrow morning we might be walking in the rain. But that's the way it's been lately. Yesterday was Circuit Blast and this morning I did Kick, Punch, and Crunch. I'm enjoying Cathe's April rotation. Tomorrow is cardio core circuits--and I'm thinking: again? I just did that last week. Oh boy, oh boy.

Everyone here is focused on whether the government will shut down or not. Lots of repercussions for lots of folks if it does. I work for a .org so my work with the Marines goes on, but many good people might not be working next week.:(

Hope everyone is staying healthy and working out as hard as they can.
Stay strong everyone.

Did Rhythmic Step today. Whew! I weighed myself today after a week on Weight Watchers, and I have been approximately the same weight it seems forever. I lost a pound in one week. Also Rolly and I (and Baby), yes the tan and white pit bull and part something else went for a 30 min. walk. She was so cute with Rolly and always wanted to be in the lead. It was hard at first to put Rolly down in front of this big dog, but to my surprise, all went very well. The other dogs were invited to come with us, but they decided to not come, they didn't want to go into the wood with us. They didn't get a chance to see Rolly on the ground, I had him in my arms because they wouldn't stop barking. After we were in the wood is when I let Rolly down on the ground. I was very nervous at first, but she (Baby) turned out to be a lady.

Laura, Great job on STS Meso 2 back and biceps. You must look like a beauty after the microbrasions facial and peel. Good for you. Nothing like refreshing your look.

Renee, I'm glad life is treating you better these days. You know, your biking, and sleeping are good. I can't believe how fast days go by either. It's even faster when you hit 60! I hope you know also that we appreciate you and that it's not always necessary to post everyday. We love you for you.:)

Michelle, I just hate when I lose my post. Great job on Ribken and your long walks. I love long walks with my doggy too. Also on yesterday's CB and this mornings KP&C. I'm so sorry to hear about the possible government shut down. It dosen't sound like the right thing to do. So sad.:(

Take care everyone,

Janie

Joey and I did TBS (as usual:rolleyes:) using heavy weight. We also did an ab work of Ab Hits and stretched. Later today I plan on a hurried walk, and my little dog too. First though, I'm going in the hot tub with my Kindle and continue reading one of my many books.

Have a great weekend every one,

Janie

Just checking in quick. Lots going on with mom, lots of work and we got a little baby sister for Grady. Her name is Izzy and she is also a standard schnauzer. He loves her and they are getting along so great. Below is a picture of her. Her little shriner hat is just small dixie cups to help her ears stay up because they were cropped.

This afternoon, Rolly, Baby and the big dark gray Mastiff took a walk in the wood for 30 min. I wasn't too sure on the Mastiff, but it all turned out very well. At least until we got home. The big male was waiting for his females to get home and once he saw all of us he started barking to get the females home. It's going to be a loooooonnnnng time to get him on our side. We won't give up. He did however get really close the other day. I had Rolly in my arms while the male was barking and he came just a few inches to smell Rolly. He must not be neutered.

MicheleZ, Hope your mom is OK. Izzy is just adorable! Grady is a lucky little guy.:D

Have a good one,

Janie

Hi all! We had a beautiful day yesterday, a little windy ... no wind day but gray. So, I'm writing from my Trek desk!

MicheleZ, Izzy is absolutely adorable! Love the expression - she just looksl like she is smiling all over her face

Janie, you are making such good progress with the neighbor dogs. Hopefully Rolly's good nature will eventually win over the big male. Very brave of you to stick with it! How did Rolly handle the barking? And, congratulations on the one pound loss! Doing that while doing heavy weights is great. I've heard other people mention that doing the heavy weights while reducing calories really helped in maintaining that precious muscle. You are doing this the smart way!

Michelle, still figuring out the next trip east. Definitely there will be several in June. The uncertainty about budget is making it tougher to spend on travel ... well, at least there was no shut down. Did you go to the Cherry Blossom Festival?

Renee, you're doing so well with that bike. Let us know how the PT went. ((Hugs)) to you and all manner of good-healing vibes are going your way.

Laura, we're treating this as though it is flu ... but I'm really starting to wonder. Today I started week four of antibiotics. It is the Z-pack, which is supposed to stay in your system, so you get two days off of taking them and are still supposed to be getting better. However, whenever I stop with the meds, I start to feel more and more tired, and the chest pain begins to come back. My guess, there's more going on than flu, and it's something affecting my lungs. If this round doesn't have me completely healthy by next weekend, it is time for a specialist. Anyway, glad to hear you are having terrific weather at least sometimes! You deserve it after that hard winter.

This week, I moved my workouts up from ten minutes to fifteen, and then yesterday from fifteen to 20 (STS meso 2 chest last night, ten rep sets). The STS approach is very helpful in segmenting these, because I can either choose one that rotates through a set of body parts, or I can choose one that lets me do them in sequence. Last week I switched to kettlebells with a light weight, and this week I am doing sequential/pushing harder per part. I also added my daily walks back in, for no more than 20 minutes. This is enough to wear me out by the end of the day (!!!!). Still, it is an upward swing! My main concern is that it is only the daily antibiotics that are letting me keep at it, and that they are masking a pneumonia or something like that. It shouldn't hurt to keep following my current doc's advice for now, though, since he said that many people take this long to recover.

Also, too funny, Laura, your comment about being healthy may really be on target! In reading about some of these new flu, apparently the really healthy fit people can have a very strong immune response to the disease, and so they in effect "get it" longer and far worse. So, it's possible that is what is happening to me :eek:

Hi to Elle, and IronLady wherever you are ...

Yesterday I took care of one of my grandsons all day. I ate what I wanted and didn't write it down.:( Didn't prepare for that day. Today I'm back on track, but still no exercise during the weekend. We like it like that. So rainy here in the PNW.

Deborah, It's always nice to have great weather, isn't it? Rolly doesn't handle the barking very well. He cries either because he wants down or cries because he's afraid and wants to run away. In any case, I have a tight hold on him. Sounds like, from your workouts, that you are truly on the road of recovery. I'm so glad also that you added back in your walks. There is nothing like walking in the wood. Do pay attention to what your doc says, to the letter.;) I hope you don't have pneumonia! Keep us apprised OK? (((((hugs and best wishes))))).

The past few days have been very busy and I just haven't been able to post or exercise. Darn. I've been working with reserves for 7 years, and this was my first reserve weekend. It was very interesting and I collected alot of good information for my command--but I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep and going in to the office a little bit later tomorrow. I'm a little behind on the April rotation--missed Friday's cardio core completely and did Saturday's Step Blast, today. It felt good to get my PT in. It really makes a difference. Tomorrow is supposed to be Circuit Max--but I don't have that one, so I'll be substituting Bootcamp from the intensity series.

Sister has been nominated for teacher of the year for the county by her school, so I went through her written package this afternoon. Sister hates writing, but I think it looks pretty good. Just had to make very minor revisions. We have until Friday to make any more changes.

Janie: I find that big dogs typically like little dogs, but sometimes the little dogs are not as friendly. Ripken loves little dogs and it is amazing how gentle big dogs can be with the little ones. I think you definitely are on a path to success with your neighbor dogs.

Shadowpup: Jeez, I hope there is not something more serious going on. Are you maintaining your weight or losing weight? Let us know because you are right these "nagging flu" symptoms could be masking something else. And that's all I even want to think about on that topic. Slow and steady should eventually win the race with your workouts--at least I hope so. Knowing how active you normally are, this really has to be taking a toll on you. Big ((((HUGS)))) to you. I'm going to make seeing you in June a top priority.

MicheleZ: love the picture of Izzy. How cute! Sounds like you are making some headway with your family issues. Hang in there and keep on exercising.

It's looking like dinner might be close to ready, so I'm going to sign off. Wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday evening.

This morning Ripken and I had a great walk although it was warm and humid. The warmer weather is okay, but Ripken was not liking the humidity. He loves walking so much though that he didn't slow up one bit. But I knew he was warm by the way his tongue was hanging out of his mouth. I made sure to put lots of ice cubes in his water when we got home--he loves his water to be cold when it gets warmer. Did Bootcamp this morning. I'm sure it has been months since I have done Cathe's bootcamp. Thank goodness it keeps you moving from one thing to the next so you don't have alot of time to think about how you are about to fall on your face. Those darn squat thrust, mountain climbers are tough! They were the only thing I couldn't quite get through.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday.

Been inconstant again! Sorry about that, sometimes I think spring is actually busier than the holiday season....

Rhythmic Step came!!Woot! Woot!!! I did it yesterday for the first time & really enjoyed it although the choreography was tricky & it took me twice as long as it is supposed to because of all the rewinding. I still didn't get very move very time, but I could tell why is such a favorite for so many people. I had almost forgot about the other works out on that DVD as they don't seem to be mentioned as much on the forums. What do you guys think of them? I think I will play around with this DVD for my cardio for the rest of the week. I still have my last leg workout of Meso 2 to finish up this week and then I leave for Atlanta for spring break & Easter on Saturday. Tonight I taught Pilates & Boot Camp. I haven't been working out as much or intensely as I would like...

The mountain closed on Sunday a week early due to the lack of snow and I hadn't skied in weeks! So it was a sub-par season with an anti climatic ending but on the bright side I did have some nice days and so did the girls. Now its time to dig out the Mountian bikes, they are getting tuned up on Friday. Last summer I didn't get a lot of rides in but had great ski season, so maybe I will focus on riding this year.... I had thought of doing the first week of Cathe's April rotation this week because my active rest week will be in Atlanta, but with all my classes, subbing an extra cardio weight class tomorrow am before my Pilates and having to make up my leg workout from being a slacker last week I think I am good.

I have been indulging in a little beauty maintenance before my trip, I had that microbrasion facial last Wendesday. Today I had a laser whitening on my teeth, & Friday is a haircut with partial highlights, I have also bought 2 new very cute bathing suits from Macy's and some new tank tops, a dress for Easter, a new casual dress and some shoes so I am feeling quite pampered and ready for my trip!

In will be back for personals tomorrow I have to go get some dinner now!

Michelle: wow is I that warm already? I can't wait! Boot Camp is insane! I think it is way harder than the 4DS Boot Camp! I haven't done it in awhile but remember how tough it is, good job on those Mountain Climbers!!

Janey: ugh the eating thing is so tough isn't it! I have not been nearly as on top of that as I need to be to meet my goals...I have decided to not stress it over my vacation, but not go hog wild either and get on track in May! How is the Weight Watchers working out for you? I need some structure that works for me... I have been thinking I was cutting out sugar but that darn white powder is in EVERYTHING and I haven't been strict enough about ordering things without sauces or dressings. Good job getting back on track!

Didn't exercise today. Very much didn't want to. Not because of Joey though. Also I'm so not good with a diet program. I weighed myself this morning and gained 2 pounds, although I wasn't suppose to do that until Thursday. Oh well, bummer and very discouraged.

Joey will be leaving for HI tomorrow for a week. I had my time with a cruise and Disney Land, now it's Joey's turn. Our daughter will pay for everything. Her hubby is still mentally sick and needs a vacation. Asked me if I wanted to go, but told her to take her father instead. He's 73 this year and never know when the next quality time will come her way. I'm so very happy for my Joey.

Michelle, Sounds like you are super busy, and doing very well with your exercises considering. Good for you. I bet you are so proud of Renee. Tell her I'm also busting my buttons.:D Being nominated for teacher of the year is a huge accomplishment! Great job on the walks with Ripken. Wish our weather would cooperate better for Rolly and me. It will come, I just have to be patient. You are such a good mommy to Ripken. Great job on BC this morning.

Laura, Congratulations for getting Rhythmic Step. One of my favorites, but how could it not be? LOL:eek: Awe, Spring time is here if they closed the mountain up for skiing. Mountain biking sounds so much fun. Yeah! With all the changes you are making with yourself, I bet you look FANTASTIC! Sounds like the trip is ready for you. Yes, the eating thing is very tough on me right now for some reason. Got to get back into the swing of things.

Have a good night everyone,

Janie

Still warm here this morning, but as rain comes through today it is supposed to be more seasonal (temps in the 60s vice the 80s). Sounds good to me. Today on the April rotation: HIIT 30/30. It took about half the workout for me to feel like I was loosening up--rmy legs eally felt tight even after the morning walkabout with Ripken. But that's why Cathe's rotations are so great. By mid-weed they really start to get you in the gotcha.

Janie: now don't get discouraged which is so easy to do. It's only 2 pounds. Just make up your mind to nip it at 2 and get the scale going the other way. Slow and steady wins the race--one of my favorite sayings. Hope Joey enjoys his time in HI.

Laura: RS took me about a month to learn all the way through. It was my first intermediate level Cathe workout and I just concentrated on learning the choreography one section at a time. Once you get it down though it is super, super fun. Sounds like you had fun shopping. I don't really have a shopping friend since sister moved and I miss having one. Sometimes I wish we all lived closer so we could share doing things like shopping.

Hope everyone is having a great Tuesday. Hi to Shadowpup, Shoegal, ElleP, MicheleZ, and sister.

Shadow pup: as always I am inspired by your commitment to health & fitness dispute the challenges live sends you, you never give up, you hardly complain, you just do what you can, & keep at it... I would be thrown in to the why bother, what's the point, please pass the fried chicken mentality!! You continue to be an inspiration!

Renee: Woot!Woot! Did some one say you were nominated for teacher of the year! Amazing and gratitude for your work with children! Such important work & sometimes under valued in our culture! But as a momma I so appreciate a teacher like you & you really do make a difference in people's lives for the LONG term! I have ever ever forgotten teachers & professors who ave changed my lives over the years...

Michelle: what a tricky and unpleasant situation to be in with your mom. I am sorry that it has gotten to this point, but you are right about the fact that there's is only so much you can do from a distance, I hope that you can find patience with her. Congratulations on your steady weight loss! That sure motivates doesn't it?

Well, quite here on our thread, let's not let it fade girls!!! It's easy to do, but over the years it seems that if a few kept it going than it eventually picks back up...I apologize for all my recent typos I have mainly been using my iPad and I am still getting used to the key board...and trying to type with both hands again as opposed to the single finger tap...it get's some getting used to and with auto correct I sometimes don't catch my errors...

Tuesday morning I subbed a cardio/weight class before my Pilates class and they really seemed to like it so that was nice. I than taught Pilates and I felt sooooo tired I kept yawning in class and on the way home I felt like I was going to fall asleep at the wheel! I had decided not to drink coffee due to my new white teeth and it made me realize how much I have come to depend on it to wake up. I had alot to do that day but I thought I oils just lie down for a minute.....next thing I knew it was 1 &1/2 hours later! I got up did a few have to's & thought I would just lie down again for a second because I was still so tired & drained feeling & I ended up sleeping another hour plus! Very unlike me but I obviously needed the rest! I had wanted to play with Rhythmic Step some more but knew that was not in the cards. I had a few errands to do in town so I took Misty into town with me, we took a short walk along thus Reservoir. A friend saw my car and stopped and joined us. Afterward we went back to their place and let ur dogs play while we had a glass of wine & some appetizers, it was nice for Misty to get out & play...I should post some pics of hr she is so HUGE & beautiful!

Today I had clients in Boulder, ran home and had time to do Rhythmic Step again, I did so much better with the choreography, I didn't get every move perfectly but I was surprised how quickly I am getting it, I didn't have time to rewind so if I missed something I just jumped back in...than I taught Total tone...

Hope all is well!
