Getting Our Licks In!

8-13-14

Work this week is horrendous! Not as bad as Michelle's week but pretty close.

Saturday was back at it w/KCM's Muscle Up (Shoulders & Arms + Abs). Kelly does a Tabata style ab workout. You do an exercise for 30 sec. on & 10 sec. off. Its not easy.

Sunday was KCM's Bootcamp the Cardio Only premix. Another sweatfest for me.

Monday was Muscle Max Lower Body only again same weights as last week.

Tuesday I was exhausted from work & just not feeling like working out. Way too tired. Tonight will be KCM's Muscle Up (chest/back) + Core #1.

Michelle: I like keeping you on your toes w/my new workouts. LOL Dressed Up Drills is all cardio drills for 5 combos & she also has 4 bodyweight exercises afterward. Its chaptered so well. It can fit into everyone's lifestyles. Kristin has 11 premixes on the dvd. I'll do another premix Thursday night. I had emailed Kristin on that backward roll move. Kristin was so sweet & actually gave me tips on how to do it. I'll try it soon. I also purchased Body Beast. Didn't Renee do this one? That must've been fun for you & DH at his 50th reunion. The town does sound quaint from your description. Are the roadtrip pictures posted on FB?

Janie Sis: Glad you enjoyed your time w/your daughter even though it was a short visit. I'll be sure to tell my DH re Harvest Moon. I'm sure he's played that one.

Take care,
Kathy

Stormy, thundery, rainy, floody weather. Interrupted internet fun. Used my cardio climber for cardio and did MM Yesterday. Today chilling out this rain. I have a guitar lesson tomorrow and want to impress my teacher on my progress. But, my practice today sucked. Will let you know how it goes.

Kathy Sis, Great job on KCM's Muscle Up shoulders, arms and abs. Sounds like you enjoyed Kelly's workout. That's what it's all about. Yea! Also for doing Sunday's KCM's Bootcamp the cardio only premix. For Monday's MM Lower Body only. Can't blame you for feeling like not wanting to do a workout. Your body was telling you something and you listened.

Take care,

Janie

Last night was KCM's Muscle Up (chest/back) + Core #1. Kept the same weights as last week. I'm climbing up the ladder slowly. I want to start on Saturday Body Beast b/c I'm so tempted. Hopefully my shoulder will cooperate.

Tonight will be Susan Chung's Rapid Fire #3 one of the premixes. Love her workouts!

Janie Sis: I'm sure your coming along beautifully with the guitar. I'm quite sure your instructor will be impressed.

We had quite some rain on Long Island yesterday!!! It was far worse than Sandy if you can believe that. My basement had some water but thank goodness not a lot. Will have to bite the bullet & waterproof the 4th side of the house. We had all 3 sides done previously. All the highways on LI were closed due to people being stranded & cars were all submerged. You could barely see the roofs of the cars. Not to mention the houses!!! I've been blessed a 2nd time around.

Today its gorgeous Sept. weather. Go figure.

Take care,
Kathy

Had a guitar lesson yesterday. Seems so long in-between them. Any hoo, I've seemed to have impressed my teacher. Wow, did that make me feel good! We played together a few songs, but playing Greenfields together was very memorable. I almost was able to catch up with him. He gave me a couple new songs to practice. Getting there and having a blast doing so.
Walked the beach with Rolly for a very long time. It seemed long anyway, maybe about an hour and a half. LOL It was so beautiful!
Will continue, "again" on my weight workouts starting Monday.

Kathy Sis, Great job on KCM's Muscle Up chest, back and core. Slowly is ver good. Believe me, you are preventing injuries. Good for you using your smarts. Do start off with Body Beast, just be very aware and listen to your body. Oh my, the weather sounds horrible! Yeah, water proof the 4th side. You'll be glad you did. Someone for sure is watching over you. (hugs your way sis, be safe).

I was on travel to Fort Bragg this week. Got back late Thursday. Did Low Impact Step yesterday just to do something. Back to hitting it hard today, some type of weight work. It was an up and down week on the new puppy search front. My breeder in Richmond has a confirmed pregnancy with Seiko but the ultrasound shows only 1 pup. However, another breeder in Maryland who just had a litter told me that they only ever saw one pup on the ultrasound but the dam had 3 pups. So you just never know. Also considered going up to Pennsylvania to look at a 6 month old golden that is available but my DH and I have decided we want the "whole" puppy experience from 8 weeks until death do us part. As we continue the search and wait, one thing is clear: getting a new puppy will definitely be a matter of perseverance, patience, timing, and mother nature. At some point, everything will work out and we will have a new boy. Sadly, my parents learned on Monday that their yellow lab has cancer so in between the puppy search activity and emails with breeders, I was responding to emails from my dad and reliving the Ripken experience. Yes, it has been quite a week. Work is still crazy. Nothing else to say there. I just push on.

Kathy: I thought of you when I saw on television how bad things were in LI. It is good to hear that you only had a little bit of water to deal with. Lots of good workouts in your week. You know my motto: slow and steady wins the race. And now I have to google Body Beast; another workout series that I do not know. You definitely keep me on my toes with your workout library.

Janie: I guess learning to play the guitar is like life: you have good practice days and sometimes not so good days. Hopefully, the good days will predominate mixing in a workout here and there. Don't forget the yoga and stretching in between. Might be good for your guitar ingers to get some stretching in.

Almost forgot: a Pure Barre studio opened in the building that my office is in now (we moved office buildings in June--don't know if I ever mentioned that). Anyway, I'm giving Pure Barre a try. Went to my first class last Monday. Definitely a serious leg workout; upper body and core are the easier parts. My one major issue after one class is that the instructor doesn't demo the exercises and I'm not crazy about that because through some of the leg work, I felt like I did not know what I was supposed to be doing. I'm trying a class time with a different instructor tomorrow; we'll see if she is different.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday.
Michelle

I did Aerobic Yoga this morning and plan a beach walk with Rolly later.

Michelle,
OMG! Joey and I are planning a trip to Fort Bragg this Fall. Do you realize you were so close to Glass Beach?
Glass Beach (Fort Bragg, California) - Wikipedia, the free

The glass that has remained are perfect for jewelry, and other project using the worn down glass pieces.
Great job on Low Impact Step yesterday. Yeah, the experience of finding a puppy thru life and death would be remarkable. Stick to your plan, you'll be happier for it I think. Awe, I'm sorry to hear about your parents lab. I bet it does bring back memories of our dear Ripken. (Hugs to you sweetie) Push on then. Have you and DH picked out names yet for your new puppy to be? Oh how nice to have a Pure Barre studio next to your office. FUN! And exciting. Let us know how you like the other instructor and hopefully will give you more detailed instructions.

Take care,

Janie

Saturday started my Body Beast rotation. I did chest/tris w/Sagi the instructor. This was an amazing workout in 45 min. Sagi uses pyramid up + supersets + giant sets. I have major DOMS today. I just stuck w/15 # dbs & used only 8's, 10's & 12's for tris.

Today is Legs & I have a sneaky suspicion that Sagi won't even come close to working the legs like Cathe. We'll see.

Michelle: Sounds like a good plan on finding the right pup for you. I'm sorry to hear about your parents lab. Does bring back painful memories for you. <<<<<<HUGS>>>>>> Your doing great w/your workouts even when working such long hours at the office. I'm excited that you have barre classes right next door to where you work. How convenient. I have a Pure Barre studio in my town & I've been meaning to take a class. I've taken 2 classes at P57 studio in Manhattan. All have great instructors. Good luck w/the next instructor.

Janie Sis: DH is practicing a new song today. He's playing don't fear the reaper by blue oyster colt from the '70's. The song has quite a bit of chord changes. It sounded pretty good to me! He too plays Greenfields. How cool! Enjoy your practicing & walks on the beach. At least you can. Weather here is awful once again. Storms today.

Take care everyone!
Kathy

Party Rocking Step 1 today just because it is so much fun. A slow and heavy workout tomorrow in the morning and Pure Barre in the late afternoon. Kind of like a Cathe roadtrip, but only two workouts in one day. I think I can survive.

Janie: so, are we an east coast gal versus a west coast gal? My Fort Bragg is in Fayetteville, NC; yours is in California. Too funny. I got all excited that you were coming east and then realized we are talking about different Ft. Braggs. Aerobic yoga sounds like fun. I'll probably need a good stretch by Tuesday morning.

Kathy: It would be interesting to hear what your Pure Barre experience is like. I'm remaining open-minded about the whole thing. I might shift to the class that is at lunch time--might be less people in it and more amenable to the instructor really instructing. I don't think Renee has done Body Beast. I know right now that she is doing STS again. She really loves the STS rotation; I like a little more Cathe diversity with an occasional Shiva Rea yoga practice, a Jillian Michaels workout, or a 21 day fit workout mixed in. Interested to hear how the Sagi leg workout went.

Enjoying a nice quiet weekend. Hope everyone also is having a nice Sunday.
Hi to sister, Laura, and Cindy.
Michelle

Slow and Heavy Chest, Back, and Planks this morning--Pure Barre later this afternoon. Busy at work but getting a lot done today. Hope everyone gets their licks in sometime today.

I did BB Legs & that was quite a workout! Sagi does each exercise in pyramid up method then goes straight into a giant set no rest back-to-back. It took my breath away especially the step ups going right into a lunge. You do sets of 15, 12 & 8. I must say Sagi's workout is harder than Cathe in just 45 min. Today was back/bis & it was a heavy duty workout. Sagi isn't fooling around w/this one. My muscles are getting tight. Shoulder is just fine as I'm being very careful. Tomorrow is cardio & abs. All high impact drills.

Michelle: I'll let you know when I take a Pure Barre class. I hope its as good as the P57 classes. Your rocking it w/your workouts as usual. Workload must be back to normal.

Waves to Janie Sis, Renee & Cindy.

Take care,
Kathy

Walked the beach with Rolly today. We have a family friend Dar here whom I've known for all my life. She will be here until Thursday. Lucky us!

Kathy Sis, Good going on starting Body Beast rotation. Chest tris w/Sagi the instructor. Congrats on the major DOM's! I listened to Blue Oyster with Don't Fear The Reaper. There is a lot of chords as you say. So cool he enjoys Greenfields. We'll have to play with him someday. LOL. Well we can only wish for some things. Never know what happens in this crazy world of ours. LOL. Be safe around storms, please. Did you say you play guitar also. Can't remember.

Michelle, Great job on Party Rocking Step 1. Enjoy your workouts tomorrow. They sound like fun. Sooooooo Funny about Fort Braggs. Darn! Enjoy your stretch tomorrow. We can and always should do them.

Michelle, Great job on Slow & Heavy Chest, back, and planks. Glad work is going good for you. How did the barre workout go?

Kathy Sis, Great job on BB legs. Does sound like an intense workout. I'm going to have to check her out. Great job also on today's back/bis. Good sign when muscles are tight. Yea! You are doing so well! Yahoo! Enjoy your cardio and abs tomorrow. I'm so happy for you!

Take care everyone,

Janie

Yesterday was BB (back/bis). Sagi doesn't kid around in this workout. He's much harder than Cathe. Tonight's Cardio & Abs & his cardio isn't easy. All high impact drills.

Janie Sis: Sagi is a guy. He trained in the Israeli military, then came to America & was a bodybuilding competitor & won awards. He now trains other competitors. The rotation goes in 3 different phases. I'm into the Build phase right now for 4 weeks. You only do cardio 1x a week, however, I may decide to do cardio 2x a week. Glad you enjoyed your beach walk & enjoy the time w/your friend, Dar.

Michelle: Did you take another barre class? Hope you have a good today.

Take care,
Kathy

I was in a meeting with the President of my company, plus a bunch of the VPs, yesterday and it ran long. Missed my Barre class. Darn. Did 21 Day Fit Pilates today. Tuesday is turning into Pilates day most weeks. Nice change of pace. Back to Slow and Heavy tomorrow.

Kathy: Sagi sounds like an instructor that might sister might like. Hope she is lurking and checks out this series that you are doing. Work hasn't slowed down, I'm just resigned to the current pace being the "routine" for a while.

Janie: It is nice that you have an old friend visiting with you. Enjoy your time with her. Are you going to do anything special or just enjoy the beach? You really are making strides with your guitar playing. Does your DH play any musical instruments or are you the lone musician in your household?

Not much going on. Just the normal work week. Home everyone is having a great Tuesday.
Michelle

Walked the beach, went to the casino, (which I never have before) with Dar and Joe. Joe is the only one who made money. $1.00. LOL Had lunch there and went home played 10,000 (a game we learned from our parents) and went to my UFO Group. OMG! It was soooooo much fun tonight. We were all comedians. My laughing jaws still hurt! The only thing I did was cast on a crochet hook. Really, that was all! LOL

Kathy Sis, Great job on back and bis. Right after I leave the post I'm checking out Sagi. Sounds horribly wonderful! Also for doing his Cardio and Abs. Sorry for calling him a her. Just that most instructors are women. LOL! Too funny.

Michelle, So impressed with you and how important you are at your job. Yet you are so down to earth and meaningful to people. Wonderful combination, your mom did right by you. Great job on 21 Day Fit Pilates. Yes, I've been encouraging Joey to play his trombone for a couple of months now. He was just invited to play in a band. (serendipity long story) The first practice will be in Sept. on Wednesday or when needed. He's so excited about it. I'm excited for him. For years he's had no friends, and now since living at the beach I have friends galore and Joe will too once the band starts up. In the Summer it slows down a lot. I can't wait to meet a whole new breed of people! Life is so good.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Last night was Body Beast Cardio but I changed up the ab workout to Core #2. I don't particularly care for Sagi's ab workout & I just had to get my Cathe fix. What a sweatfest that cardio was. It took my breath away. Very intense. It started out hard & it just kept getting worse. LOL

Tonight will be BB Shoulders. Will have to be careful w/this one. Don't want to aggravate my shoulder & be back in PT.

Michelle: I had thought that Renee had done a rotation of BB but I think it was STS & P90X3? Not sure. I'm sure she would like BB. Your a VIP to the company. Care to tell us your title? I'm equally impressed with you the same as Janie. I was always doing 21DF Pilates. After BB rotation I'll put it back in.

Janie Sis: It must be difficult making new friends once you retire. DH & I will be retiring in 5 years & we're wondering how it will be for us in a new state. It will feel like starting all over again. It takes time to make friends. Joe will enjoy being in a band & having friends too. Speaking of casinos, my DS is right now in Vegas w/his 2 friends. So jealous. I just hope he hasn't lost too much $$. I never heard of the 10,000 game before. I'll have to Google to find out how to play. Sounds like fun. I forgot what the UFO Group is.

Take care,
Kathy

Hi everyone. Did Slow and Heavy Triceps this morning. Didn't have time for Biceps--had to get to Quantico for a meeting. First, let me dispel your awe: I am not a VP at the company where I work. I have been here over 25 years so I am pretty senior, but thankfully, not a VP. Just happened to have to go to a meeting with the P and some VPs. It happens from time to time. I found out this morning that one of the woman who I sometimes coordinate with at Quantico is a labrador retriever breeder (not goldens--labs), but we sure do have lots to talk about now. I've been lucky so far, all the people who I've met in the dog-world are knowledable, very nice, and love to talk about dogs. Go figure. LOL!

Kathy: I could be wrong about sister and body beast but I don't think so. I do know that she is doing STS again. I think the roadtrip inspired her to give it another go. Cardios are supposed to take your breath away (at least a little). Good workout! When you and your DH retire, will you move out of LI? If so, where do you think you all will relocate?

Janie: guitar and slide trombone--what a combination. Sister plays slide trombone (in addition to lots of other instruments). Way back in our college days, the one year that she went to Va. Tech, she played the slide trombone in the Va. Tech Marching Virginians Band. Joining a band should be great for your Joey. Has he been practicing? Don't forget: laughing helps to tighten your ab muscles!

Pure Barre today at 4:15.

Last night was BB's Shoulders & what a great workout in 35 min. I don't believe Cathe works the shoulders for 35 min. Kept the weights somewhat light & did very well. No problem w/the shoulder. Some of the moves reminded me of Cathe's Double Trouble in 4DS except Sagi did it a little differently. Also the shrugs. Reminded me of Cathe again.

Tonight's supposed to be a rest day, however, I miss my kickboxing. I'll do a short 30 min. KCM kbing workout tonight.

Michelle: Your still a VIP to me. No title? You must have one. What a coincidence that the woman is a breeder even though she breeds labs. Its nice when you meet people that have a common denominator isn't it? DH & I are thinking of retiring to Palm Coast, FL or Greenville, NC. We'll take some trips starting in a couple of years from now. How did the Pure Barre class go yesterday with the different instructor?

Janie Sis: Enjoy your time w/Dar. Does she leave today?

Take care,
Kathy

Will post my workouts later tonight. Update: Walked the beach as usual and took some photos. Made gluten free cookies, practiced my guitar and worked on my art drawing.

Kathy Sis, Great job on Body Beast Cardio with Core #2. Love when a workout takes your breath away. Way to go! Making friends after you retire is a snap, once you settle into one place and not travel any longer, as we did. Do things you enjoy and you will meet fantastic people. Friendships grow fast after you retire. Sometimes in a matter of weeks, it's like you've known some people for a very long time. It's so cool. The 10,000 dice game has a couple names. Will let you know later today. Such a hoot to play!

Michelle, Great job on Slow and Heavy triceps. Well, you are very much important to me even though you dispel our aw to you. LOL So cool how we meet people with the same interests, isn't it (dog world)? Your sister plays slide trombone? That is one heavy instrument for a woman! I'm impressed! What other instruments does she play? How can one do that? Wow. Yes, Joey has been practicing and he is getting much better. He always thought that he lost his lip muscle (LOL whatever you call it) but now realizes, with practice (as I told him) is taking it back. We are laughing a lot these days.

Kathy Sis, Great job on BB's Shoulders. Good job and so glad your shoulder is doing so well.

Yes, sadly Dar left today to meet up with her family. I guess a family reunion. They go to mountains to pick huckleberries. It's a fantastic excuse to get the family together.

I went to my PureBarre class on Wednesday. Same instructor but a little better the second time around. She spent more time demonstrating the moves so maybe they got some feedback. I'm signed up for three classes next week. It's a nice add-on workout. Did a Crossfire premix yesterday: fitness blast, plyo tabata, and core. It is a good 33 minute cardio+core workout. If you a quick workout, I highly recommend this premix. Today was a break day.

Janie: oh boy, you'd have to ask what other instruments sister plays. Let's see: flute, trombone, recorder, piano, bass. Those are the main ones. She started on flute in high school, then added piano and the trombone. I think she picked up the trombone, bass, and recorder on her own. There are probably others that she can play. If I remember correctly, she played the organ for a synagogue (no, we are not Jewish; they paid her to play, I think) in Fredericksburg when she lived in this area. Sister says once you learn a wind or string instrument, you can pick up others pretty easily. If she is lurking, she could pop in and give you the whole list.

Kathy: a 35 minute shoulder workout sounds like torture to me. I think shoulder work is the hardest. I don't know if I could make it 35 minutes on just shoulder work. I know one thing; I'd be majorly whining. The fact that you got through the workout and aren't feeling it (in a bad way) afterwards bodes very well for your recovery. Seems like you are: recovered.

Missing sister, Cindy, and Laura. Hope we see posts from you soon.
