Getting Our Licks In!

Finished the piano book from what was in with the keyboard. Not much there! Very surprised about that. Thank goodness I have a few beginning piano books. Whew! Total Body Sculpting for me tonight.

Take care,

Janie

Happy New Year's Eve day. Quiet day here at my household. Did Step Blast this morning then ran some errands. STS disc 2 was yesterday. DH and I will be going to get our flu shot in a bit then we will watch the VaTech football game this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy new year.

Sorry I've been missing ladies but I came down with a sinus infection on Xmas Eve. DH, DS & I were all sick. We weren't even interested in opening up our presents. :( Went back to work on Monday. Stressful so much work. No workouts until last night.

I did 1/2 of Susan Chung's Rapid Fire 4. Loved it! The ab section is hard. Tonight I'll do Xtrain chest/back/shoulders one of the shorter premixes. I'm still not a 100% but will try to do my best.

Janie Sis: Happy to hear that your enjoying your new piano. And you received a guitar too? That's great. It will take time & practice but I know you'll master it. Have fun in the meantime.

Michelle: I know pretty soon you'll be getting yourself a new pup. :) You've been doing well at keeping up w/your workouts & for doing P90X w/your sister. Happy to hear you enjoyed yourself over the Xmas holiday.

Laura: I hope your tooth is feeling better by now. What an awful experience you had & scary too. I hope you have a better time for New Year's.

Waves to Cindy!

Have a Happy New Year & a safe one too!

Kathy

First practice of Yoga Foundation today and also of course another hr. of piano practice.

At midnight to night: Happy New Year!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Mechelle, Great job on yesterdays STS disc 2, on Step Blast and errands today. Joey and I get ours flu shots in the Fall. Does that make a difference in any way? Enjoy the game today.

Kathy Sis, Nice to see you back. So sorry you were sick during the Holidays. How awful! Hugs. Did you all open presents yet? Great job on doing half of Susan Chung's Rapid Fire 4. Will have to look it up, hmmmmm. No guitar yet, but sometime this year. Will learn piano first. LOL

Happy New Year Everyone!

Happy New Year everyone. Just lost my first post. Hate when that happens. It has been a quiet day. DH and I went out to dinner last night at a local italian restaurant. Very good and very rich food; we both had a little trouble sleeping last night. I think it was from the dinner being so rich. Go figure. Got up this morning and took a walk. First time I have done that since Ripken passed away. It felt good to be outside in the fresh air but it's just not the same without my sweet pup. I'm just going to have to continue to work through this. It is going to take a while. Ripken was such a huge part of my daily routine. Okay--enough of that or I will be crying again. Did STS disc 3, legs. Cathe's leg workouts always make me sweat big time. The rest of the day just been watching bowl games and relaxing. Back to work tomorrow.

Janie: good job on your yoga and piano practice. I don't think it matters when you get your flu shot as long as you get it. We just got them late this year.

Kathy: sorry to hear that you have been under the weather, especially during Christmas. What a bummer. Sounds like you are on the road to being ship-shape again. You know my motto about slow and steady wins the rest, particularly when you are getting over being sick. Don't want to risk an injury. Let us know if you get that snow storm that is supposed to hit the northeast tomorrow and Friday. Hopefully it will not be too back in the NYC/Long Island area.

Hi to Laura and Cindy. Hope everyone had a wonderful first day of 2014.

1-2-14

I've been feeling very fatigued these days. I just can't seem to shake this sinus infection. However, I still want to workout. I'm coughing a lot while doing cardio though.

Tonight I'll do Xtrain's Legs. Yesterday I did the other half of Rapid Fire 4. This was boxing + her abs again. I love this new workout! Some of the boxing combos are tricky but Susan does it enough times to get it. Her abs are based on what boxers do & its HARD!!!

Michelle: We did finally open up all of our presents. I had some surprise gifts from my DS. Glad you enjoyed your dinner w/DH but not afterwards. Rich food does that to me too. Are you doing an STS rotation? Or Cathe's Dec. rotation?

Janie Sis: Are you planning on just doing a yoga rotation? Have fun learning the piano. Did you get those flash cards to help you?

Happy New Year everyone!

Take care,
Kathy

Happy New Year! Sorry I've been MIA - my grandfather passed away on Friday so I spent Friday night and Saturday cleaning (Christmas decorations are all away), doing laundry, and packing so we could do the 11 hour drive to Mitchell, SD. The kids were really good in the car (thank God for Kindle's) and very well behaved at the viewing and funeral - not sure where they came from ;) We buried him on Tuesday and then did the long drive to my parents house that night on some bad roads - it was so nice to finally rest my head just before midnight. We got home yesterday and it's back to work and school today so we'll get back into the swing of things. It doesn't quite feel like a new year to me yet so I need to work on that! Opted for sleep last night but tonight I will do some KickMax Timesaver and I'm getting my focus on healthy eating again.

Janie - Sounds like you're moving quickly through the piano books, you'll get the finger positions soon. I had a paper positioner to put on the piano when I was a kid and that helped me until I just knew the proper feel - there may be some things out there to help you if needed. I hope the foot isn't giving you any issues.

Kathy - Sorry about the sinus infection, those are so hard to get over. Great job staying active through it.

Michelle - Big hugs! I'm sure Ripken was walking with you in spirit. Rich meals get me too, they make me almost feel like I'll be sick which takes away from the enjoyment when eating them :)

Cindy

Today was Yoga Foundation #1 practice. Feeling like I should start from scratch and start from the beginning in my yoga, weight training and cardio. Then next month a little harder and longer workouts. Felt so good doing yoga today.

Michelle, Hate loosing posts too. Yep, rich and wonderful tasting food make me have a restless night too. Great job on your walk. Awwww hugs to you remembering your walks with Ripken. Also great job on STS disc 3, legs.

Kathy Sis, Seems to me sissy, your body is trying to tell you to lay off exercising for a little while. It takes time for your body to heal, give it a week at least to rest up. Great job on yesterday's Rapid Fire 4. Sounds like a really good workout. I'm doing not just yoga, but Cathe's weight training and cardio too.

Cindy, OH NO! I'm so sorry for your loss. Hugs and prayers your way. Nice the kids were well behaved during the drive, viewing and funeral. With all that stress glad you were able to rest before midnight. Me too on focusing eating clean. Not moving so quickly at all, still waiting for the flash cards to arrive so I can memorize the notes and where they go on the piano. Everything is at a stand still until I do this. But, relearning what I have already learned in the mean time. I have the a,b,c,d,d,f,g on the piano keys until I learn them better. LOL My foot today acted very well. Not in pain at all. Thank you for asking. The big test is this Saturday on the steps.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Hi everyone. Today I did yoga max. As you know I'm not much of a yoga person and yoga max is a challenge for me. It felt good to give my muscles a good stretch and a different kind of workout. I'm back to trying to do a yoga practice once a week. It does seem to have its benefits. Well winter has finally come to Virginia for a few days. We're getting a little snow and some colder temps, but nothing like what Cindy has had. Kathy is getting more snow and cold up her way. I just hope everyone stays home and stays safe until this storm pushes through and the roads are cleared. Went back to work today. Spent the day catching up on things that have happened over the past two weeks and reengaging my brain. Tomorrow should be more productive.

Cindy: I'm so sorry for your loss. Grandparents are such wonderful parts of our lives and it is very sad when one passes away. It is amazing that children seem to know when to behave properly--makes you wonder about their innate sensing abilities, doesn't it? Don't try to do to much at once. You've got time to get back into your routine.

Janie: I like your plan for easing back into your workouts. You've had such a time with your foot.

Kathy: I don't know if I'm going to do all of STS; right now, I'm doing meso 1 and mixing in cardios of my choice. I really love Cathe's new workouts and I have some newe Jillian Michael's workouts that my sister gave me for Christmas. I hate when you get that lingering cough at the end of being sick. Sometimes it seems like it just won't let go.

Hope everyone has a restful evening. I'll be working at home tomorrow since all this winter mess is supposed to freeze overnight when the temps plummet.
Michelle

Hi everyone & I hope 2014 will be a great year! I am ready to buckle down and lose those extra pounds that have crept on..... I can relate to the overheating sentiment! I really let go this holiday and over indulged more than once and now my stomach expects way more than it needs! I am going to be hungry for awhile to shrink my stomach...I hate being hungry it hurts and it makes me terribly grumpy but I dislike feeling fat and over full more so.....

New Years was a quite night with a new guy I have been seeing. We cooked a very fine meal together and enjoyed a nice quiet evening.

Tuesday I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and then STS Meso cycle 2 week 1 backs & bi's. Wednesday I took off and today I did Rock out Knock out. I am thinking of doing Meo Cycle two again and mixing in cardio. I like Meso a cycle two better than 1 and I get crazy DOMS from it. Has Cathe posted a January rotation?

I am on my iPad and I can't re read the posts as I type but I did catch up on everyone

Janey I'm glad your feeling better and I think the slow and steady is a good approach. Yes taking up an instrument is a challenge and takes a lot of practice! Have fun!

Michelle: it's nice to hear that you and Renee got to workout together and that you are getting through your days as best you can. Are you considering a new puppy? Puppies are so cute!!!! Say hi to Renee and that's so awesome she lost the weight! She must feel good about that.

Kathy that's a bummer to be sick over the holidays! I have the same dilemma when I am sick....to work out or not... I am curious about your new workouts they sound fun! Did you get a lot of snow? It looks like more is on its way too

Cindy I am so sorry about your loss and at this time of year too! I m glad the kids were well behaved and didn't cause you further stress. We need to support each other on our nutritional goals! I have the working out art down but I need to focus my efforts in the kitchen!

1-3-14

We had early dismissal from work yesterday due to the storm heading our way. Since I got home early I decided not to listen to Janie Sis & did Xtrain Legs (standing & floor) premix. Felt good but I was still coughing through it. How annoying!

Wow did we get snow!!!! Not as much as Cindy gets but still a lot. Thank goodness for the snowblower & our SUV that has AWD. The temp is only 11 degrees but boy does it feel like 0! Came into work but will not stay the entire day. The railroad is only working on a weekend schedule. I'll have to get outta Dodge early today! LOL

Tonight I'll do Xtrain (bis & tris) one of the shortened premixes. Not sure yet which one. Janie I'm still not listening to you. LOL

Janie Sis: I'm so happy that your foot is completely healed. I'm not a fan of yoga so anyone that does a yoga practice has ^^^^^5's from me. I bet you can't wait to lift weights again. The piano does take quite a bit of practice but I know you'll master it in no time.

Michelle: At least you can work at home when the weather is bad. I don't have that option. Kudos to you for doing Yoga Max. I could never get into Cathe's yoga dvds. Poses are held far too long for me. I much prefer Rodney Yee. Will you be getting the puppy soon or wait until the weather gets better?

Laura: Good to hear from you. I'm glad that your seeing someone & that you both cooked up a good meal. How's your tooth these days? I hope all your dental work is now behind you. My new workout is from Susan Chung Rapid Fire 4. She has 6 combos + an ab section. The first 3 combos are kickboxing & the other 3 combos are boxing. There are some tricky moves in it but nothing too complicated. Its not as intense as her #2 workout but this one packs a lot of fun into it. This workout is what I had hoped Cathe's Rockout Knockout would've been. Susan's ab exercises are HARD. I find her abs much harder to do than Cathe's. I always have DOMS for days afterward. My other new workout I got is from Kelly Coffey-Myer Shape Up. This is a Tabata style workout that alternates the cardio with the weights doing each one 8x. Its a real sweat fest. I haven't done this one yet b/c of my sinus infection but I will on Sunday.

Cindy: I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandfather. My prayers are w/you. Glad the kids were no trouble. Kids instinctively know when something terrible has happened. I'm sure they felt bad too. At least you had gotten much needed rest when you returned home. I know what you mean by it not feeling like the new year. I'm trying to stay on track w/healthy eating too.

Have a good day everyone!
Kathy

It was a battle to get myself to exercise last night, I was so tired and it was late so I opted for X10 low impact, I at least felt better 5 min in and enjoyed it. I need to remember that on those tired nights. Tonight I'm going to do muscle conditioning and this weekend I have Turbo Barre (if it arrives tomorrow like it's supposed to) and Afterburn. Lily has cheer rehearsal tomorrow so she'll be all decked out in her uniform - I'm not good at the girly girl stuff so I'm a little nervous making sure she looks perfect - at least I know I can properly tack her sleeves so they're proper length. The kids also start ski lessons this weekend so we're back to being busy.

Thanks for the condolences and prayers!

Kathy - We have Chinook winds coming in and are at 40, it's crazy warm! They are calling for freezing rain and snow this weekend so it won't last long. Glad the workout felt great and I hope that coughing goes away soon.

Laura - Sounds like a great way to ring in the New Year! Definitely need to support eachother on the nutritional goals - I'm in the same boat with my stomach having to learn to not want so much food also, I hate that I've put myself in this spot.

Janie - I was going to suggest labeling the keys so glad you've done that. Great news on your foot!

Cindy

Only an inch of snow here and very cold (by Virginia standards). Worked at home today. Did STS disc 4. Must be in the second week of STS groove now, because I was having fun and feeling good. Somebody asked in Cathe posted a January rotation. I have not checked but I bet she did. I willl have to see if I can incorporate some of her cardios in between my STS days.

Cindy: those X10 workout singles are really great quick workouts, but you really feel like you got a workout. I cannot remember if you purchased all of Cathe's new workouts or not, but each seems to have premixes that are around 30 minutes or so which is real nice. Sounds like back to being busy means back to normal for you. I imagine learning to ski out there is pretty much something everyone does which makes sense.

Kathy: I'm glad you had a good workout. I guess sometimes it is good to ignore your check-in buddies. I don't recall what your professional employment is but it is too bad that you cannot telecommute. I will say that sometimes the down side of telecommuting is that it means I can work ALL THE TIME. Yeah.

Laura: I hope that 2014 is a better year for you. You certainly had a time of it in 2013. As always, positive thoughts for you (and everyone in our group) that you have a happy and healthy 2014.

A couple of you asked about when we might get another puppy. It will probably be a while. As I mentioned I researched Ripken's pedigree over Christmas and was surprised to find that we really lucked into an exceptional golden retriever, in terms of pedigree, 13 years ago. I have my first choice breeder for our next golden, but I have to submit an application, complete with references AND people who have known us with our previous dogs (I thought one implied the other), and be approved to get a puppy when the breeder has a litter sometime in the future. Plus, if approved, I don't know how long their "waiting list" might be. So this could take months or a couple of years. It will be worth it if we can get another golden retriever "related to" Ripken. Anyway, right now I'm asking neighbors, boat neighbors, and colleagues/friends if they will be references. This is going to take a little time but I'll provide updates as things move along, or not.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Michelle

Today was Upper and Lower body sculpting with Stability Ball ab workouts. Whew! Burned 332 calories. My legs were fried! It took awhile before I could walk normally an my abs are twitching. LOL I ate clean today. And practiced the piano today as well for an 30 min. Wish those flash cards would get here.;)

Michelle, Lucky you being able to work at home. So glad of your choice when there is freezing overnight. Be safe and warm.

Laura, A new guy? How exciting! Great job on Tues. 30 min on the elliptical and STS Meso cycle back and bi. For Wedn. a rest day and for today Rock Out Knock Out. I see a Jan. Rotation, there is also one in her 2014 calendar. Both look great.

Kathy Sis, Hoping you feel better soon. You poor thing. I can't even imagine having temps at 11 degrees. Be safe and warm.

Cindy
, Great job on X10 low impact even though you really didn't want to. Good for you. Awww would love to see Lily in her cheer Leading uniform if possible. Photos? Sounds like fun for the kids and their ski lessons. Enjoy.

Michelle, Glad you worked at home and got yourself out of the cold. Great job on STS disc 4. Nice to have fun with these isn't it? How exciting to have a new puppy in the future! Especially with Ripken's ancestry. Yea! I'm sure he's smiling a doggy smile about that. I hope it won't take to to long. Great job on Yoga Max. Glad you will be doing a once a week yoga. It truly is so good for the body.

Take care,

Janie

Wow! Did my exercises before noon today. Not like me at all, but very effective and fun. Did Basic Step even got my heart rate up enough for a sweat. Not melting or anything though.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Cardio Fusion All Step Premix today. Took down the outside Christmas lights and now all of the Christmas decorations are put away. Been a quiet day, just putzing around the house, getting odds-n-ends done. Hope everyone is having a great day.
Michelle

Hi Ya!
Did some Clean Max, so quite here at the house with out the kids and my mom… also did some clean food shopping and prep for the week!:D I did Xtrain Cardio Legs today and it was a killer for sure. I wonder if I will be as sore as my last leg workout with my big bro in Nashville with at the YMCA? Those were insane DOMS, we are definitely competitive and I realized today when I was working out to Cathe on TV that I didn't go as low as I did with my big bro next to me and the giant mirrors and those last few degrees of flexion might make a BIG difference in results! Any thoughts on that from other DVD athletes? How much do we cheat? If you were in a class would you push harder than you do at home?

Well I feel like I fit in here with some snow today! I had to pick my mom up at the airport tonight and it snowed all day. Her flight was delayed an hour and than the door was jammed and would not open so four hours later we got home safely!

I decided today while working out that I have so many Cathe workouts that I haven't even done or only done once or twice, I confess I went on a buying spree about 4 years into finding Cathe and she keep coming out with more and more that there are a few DVDs that arrived that I never even did…plus I can tend to get into my workout routes so for the New Year I have decided to go back and do all of the Cathe DVDs that I have starting with Low Impact Series that came in my toughest and most inconsistent workout time in a long time with the divorce and all though I have done some of the DVD;s a lot there are several I have never done. Which includes After Burn, Cardio Sets, and Athletic Training. And from what I have read I am in for an @ss kicking on those

Michelle I don't think I have Cardio Fusion! But I am cutting myself off from any purchases until I have done every Cathe DVD I own (never done any of the High step which I have for example….Waste not want not right? I think it is wise to take a moment between our beloved 4 legged companions. A new one can heal and some times they mask the pain of our loss. It is important to grieve and then love again when the time is right. I would be most happy and honored to write you a reference. Although I never met Ripken I felt I knew him over the years, I could almost imagine his facial expressions on his daily walks, his eager loving licks after your workouts, him curled up at your feet when you worked at home. Clearly no dog was loved as much or loved back his owner as the two of you. Even virtually it has been an honor to know your friendship. It is the things that books are written about. Say the word and I am a witness to that!

Janey it sounds like you are getting back to your old self! I love your posts of you're amazing art, soap making, jewelry which I Have and wear proudly, adventures on the coast, the baking, the new music endeavors as all of those things are what are special and amazing about you. I mean really you make it hard to keep up with all your talents! But I know it means a lot to you and all though you never dwell or complain I imagine your injuries have taken the wind out of your sails and it is good to hear that the wind once again has your back!

Cindy: I so can relate to the I am so tired I wan to lay down and sleep for hours or I SHOULD GO WORKOUT and you really really don't' want to but I also can relate to those times for what ever reason we can dig deeper and go and do it HOW MUCH BETTER WE FEEL!!! Right? Congratulations for establishing that feedback loop for yourself. I get the struggle I face it every day..

Kathy: you are in for a chill I hear! Keep your skin covered! Living out west we know the price on our faces for the cold weather and sunny days that we face. An average 30 + women (outside athletic) in the west looks 10+ years her senior of an east coaster.. Elements take a toll and we should protect ourselves to enjoy… Your new DVD's sound delightful, tempting and alluring but I am cutting of all purchases DVD wise as I have WAY more than I use presently.

Today is a rest day for me and I have to tell you I'm so glad. Having DOM's like no other! That is also unlike me, but I'm savoring every moment of it. And yes, I didn't pass the toilet test. L:DL Yahoo! Who new beginner workouts were so effective. Also practice some piano. Still such a joy to do. Thinking of drawing on paper today.

Michelle, Great job on Cardio Fusion All Step Premix. Yep, taking down Christmas decorations is a chore, but good memories. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Laura, You are sounding more and more like your spry self. What ever you are doing, continue on with it. I desperately need to do some cleanmax. Maybe tonight. Great job on Xtrain cardio legs. Hoping you have lots of DOM's! L:DL I do think when people are around while exercising we tend to do a little more effort verses at home alone. That's why I always try to think/pretend that I'm on camera with Cathe and gang. L:eek:L! I know. I do believe the last push on exercising are the most rewarding for the body. Awww, airports sucks. So glad you and your mom are at home and safe. LOVE your New Year Resolution! Making sure you do all of Cathe's workouts. Good for you! You are going to love the kick @ssing Afterburn, Cardio Sets and Athletic Training! Yep, I'M BACK. And ready to get going on health again. Injuries are horrible! Awwwww, so glad you enjoy the things I do and still wear the jewelry. Makes me feel good inside!

Take care ladies and enjoy the day,

Janie

STS disc 5, back and triceps, today. DOMS all the time now. STS just has that effect on me. I know by the time that the active recovery week rolls around, I will be ready for it.

Laura: Janie is so right. You are sounding more and more like your old self and that is a very good thing, my friend. IMHO all of Cathe's leg workouts are super. I always have DOMs after a Cathe leg workout. And as for cheating, you know what Cathe says: no cheating. In all honesty though if I feel my body is telling me to back off a little, I do. If not, then I go for full out on each exercise. Of course, I'm always better at the beginning of a workout than the end when muscle fatigue starts to really kick in. But yes, I think I am more "competitive" if I am working out with someone. Laura, thanks for the support about providing a reference. I am going to call Terans Kennel this afternoon to make sure I provide them with as complete an application as possible. I'm guessing that they will want to talk to my references on the phone, but I will let you know. Good idea to try those workouts that you have not done yet.

Janie: I also still wear your jewelry. There are days when I really feel like I need your energy with me and wearing your jewelry does the trick. Enjoy your rest day. We all love those rest days.

Hi to Kathy and Cindy.
