Getting Our Licks In!

Hi Everyone!

Tonight I teach Pilates and my Total Tone class, I am thinking of doing a full body push/pull workout and just talk the class through the lower body and then join in for the upper body workout.....

My R knee is getting better with more intense icing and advil in massive amounts, but it is still painful to walk down stairs or if any weight or pressure is applied to it. Interested in what the PT will say tomorrow...

I am having fun and keeping myself occupied with planning the girls B-day party this Saturday! They are learning about Native Americans History from this area of the country so they decided to do a Native American theme...Since they are turning 10, which is a big deal to be in the double digits, we are going to have them and their friends do a 'trial' of shooting a long bow to a target, after which they receive Raven feathers that I have collected over the years and tied leather around the stalks so they can hang them, after their trial, they will pick a clue from a hat which will lead them to their totem animal, I bought these little leather spirit bags with dream catchers on them and each one will have a little plastic animal inside of it which will be their totem animal. I am writing up little things about each animal from the Animal Spirit book...I also ordered a Birthday cake in the shape of a buffalo, common around here due to CU Buffalos! Any way it should be fun and I still have a lot to do! Glad to be busy otherwise the lack of exercise could make me nuts-0!!

Michelle: sounds like you are making strides in your strength! Way to go!

Shoegal: it is good to mix it up and we all have our favorites! I don't have S&H and I doubt I will get it now that I have STS...

Janey: the weather here has really dried up after a wet summer, not good for fires as there is abundant plants that then dry out....good job on jumping on the treadmill when the weather is bad..is Joey still working out with you?

Hi fives to everyone else!

Walked Rolly for a long time, didn't time it, but we had fun and at the end sweaty poo.

Shoegal, Great job on S&H Back and chest. Did you say boring? You need stimuli a lot don't you? Nothing wrong with that, I need variety. Decorating, sounds like you will be having fun. Motivation is always nice to clean in my opinion. Fall is my favorite time of year too especially for walking.

Michelle, Great job on the beginning of Meso 2.

Laura, Good plan on teaching your Pilate class and saving your knee. Girls B party already. Didn't they just have one? Time is flying by tooooooo fast and pre teen at that! Native America history is very interesting. Have fun with that art work. It's so much fun to do. Joey and I both do the weight lifting exercises together, but cardio is on my own.

Walking Rolly these days in between rain. Not easy, sometimes we simply can't do it. But, I then go on the treadmill or one of many cardios. Rolly watches, the kitties mind their own business.

Deborah, Congratulations for making a record against yourself with the squat rack! 161 pounds, I'm soooooooo very proud and inspired. Way to go!

Elle, Love how you are inspired by yoga. You can't go wrong with that at all. Great job!

Shoegal, Fantastic job on ASC4 and inpired by your "not giving up" attitude. With abs it sounds like a great workout. I can't wait to see your decorations, pictures please. Hey, it's been a year already? Time does fly.

Renee, Hope you get relief from the allergies. Yes you do accomplish a lot. Amazing. Glad you listened to your body and opted not to do the Karate.

Laura, September for sure hasn't been your month. Next month will be better for sure. Sur hope your knee is OK. let us know K? Take care of yourself and don't do to much for the knee. Let it have time to heal.

Janie

Thanks Janie! We are having d

Yesterday i did Shiva Rea's Beginner Flow DVD. I changed the order of the sequences so that the more relaxing sequences were done towards the end of the practice.

Laura: I love the theme for your daughter's party. Sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun and i really like the idea of the animal totems.

Janie: Hope you are getting some rain free time to enjoy your walks with Rolly.

On Wednesday I did ASC4 again. Got most of it this time and did it shoeless!!! Except this time - I felt the beginning of a blister starting and I stopped to put onmy shoes. My thought was I was going to FLY with shoes and it would be great. I was wrong - the shoes actually felt heavy, clunky and a hinderance. I'm sure if I had started the step workout with shoes I wouldn't have felt that way - so interesting!! I did S&H Legs & Shoulders last night - this moved along a little better than Chest & Back but wasn't as intense as I thought it would be. I did this one with shoes on - can't get a good grip on the floor without them. I did the abs from powerhour as well.

Laura - the Native American theme for the girl's B-day party is really fun & wonderful. Do you have a big party like that every year for their birthday??? Or is this special because they are turning 10? Tell us what the PT said about your knee!

Elle - Another relaxing yoga practice with Shiva Rea - sounds just so calming - and flowing - and free - and exercise done without shoes! I bet there is absolutely no dread factor there.

Janie - Yes - I decorated last night and it was fun!!! - also gave me a ton of motivation to clean. You should have seen the boxes I pulled out - there were too many!! I also found these bear knick Knacks I had put away last year and never saw again until last night. I knew they would turn up.

My sister is going away to Myrtle Beach and I have to watch her pups this weekend - it is going to be a house full of dogs!!!

Happy Friday!

Wish there was some fun, exciting news to pass on. I finished week 2 of meso 2 yesterday. Today is my much needed rest day. Slept in to 5:05 instead of getting up at 4:20. Exciting, huh? See, its just the same old, same old.

Karate remains fun, learning Universal 3 this week and working on Bow kata 1. I find it hard to keep that one straight. It's so long and confusing. Wish the kata was written out, or on dvd.

I'm on different meds for my allergies. Tomorrow will be day 4 of meds, and I'm suppose to see a change within 4 days. Today, well, I guess its better, but I'm chalking it up to the "ah, its Friday" syndrome.

Hope everyone is doing A-OK.

~Renee

I'm not sure what has happened to me this week. I guess I've just been busy and have not been able to post. Getting lots done at work though. Yesterday I did meso 2, disc 14, legs and today was disc 15 back and biceps. I pushed my STS workouts together at the end of the week so I could get through the first week before hitting the weekend. The leg work was great yesterday; the biceps today were hard. But I guess that's the way it's supposed to be.

Laura: a native American birthday party sounds like fun. Will the Buffalo cake be chocolate? It's been very dry here as well although the weatherman is forecasting rain next week. We'll see if any actually falls from the sky. Glad to hear that your knee is feeling better.

Shoegal: I have to laugh when I read about your exercising without shoes. I can't help but think: what has happened to our Shoegal? I mean your screen name is "Shoegal" after all. A house full of dogs sounds like fun to me. They'll keep things hopping for you this weekend.

Janie: have you started meso 2 this week or is this your break week?

Elle: Shiva Rea will be my Sunday workout, I think. I'm appreciate your recommendation wrt her workouts. How much shorter is your daylight time in Canada these days. We just had the autumnal equinox. Did you get 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night or is it more nightlight in Canada because you are further north? Just wondering.

Sister: a quiet rest day sounds good. I think we all like Fridays.;)

Hi to Shadowpup--welcome home.

Since it's been raining, Rolly perfers to potty in the house.:( He hates water, except to drink. Now I have to start all over again. He's on a leash at all times and every 3 hours I shove him out the doggie door. When he goes he gets praised, and back on the leash again. He's with me at all times, poor guy, but I don't know how else to do it. He has no freedom in the house until I know he will not potty. When I go out, he's put in the cage where there is water, food and a toy. I'm so disappointed.:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( Joey hasn't been telling me, but this has been going on when it is raining. Shoot, so disappointed in Rolly. Will be taking him out in the rain on purpose so he will get more use to it. He's a Calf. doggie and is use to the sunshine I guess. On top of that I have a huge sore on my lip. Yuck, the kind you hide behind, it's that big! Did yoga today. Will start STS Meso 2 on Monday.

Elle, Great job with your yoga.

Shoegal, Great job on those workouts the last couple of days. How's the blister comming? I bet it was a lot of fun decorating. Have fun with all those doggies this weekend.

Renee, Good going on finishing week two of meso 2. It's an accomplishment. Glad you could sleep in even though that still seems too early for me. I get up at eight am usually. I looked up kata and it is confusing. You'll get it , you always do. Just have fun with it. Hope the allergy symptoms lesson for ya.

Michelle, Great job on the miso 2 legs and todays back and biceps. Will be starting meso 2 this Monday.

Janie

Took a break today. 3 days of STS in 4 days and my body is feeling like it needs a rest, but I'm glad I got through the first week of meso 2. I was definitely feeling my back muscles this morning. I don't think I've ever had back doms like I did today.

Janie: boy that's discouraging news with regards to Rolly's behavior when it's raining. How bizarre. Hope you are able to work through this retraining period sucessfully.

Ripken and I did have a great walkabout this morning. We walked halfway down the island and back. It's a bit of a long walk and I think I pooped out my poor pup. But he loves walking so much and I just didn't have the heart to say we had to turn back early. We ended up taking a bit of a rest, but we still the whole walk. We watched the Va Tech vs Boston College game and then went to the pool for a couple of hours. Yes, our pool at the marina is still open and since it was 90+ degrees today, we went. Tomorrow, the weatherman says we might hit 70 degrees. What a difference that will be. My DH says we are going out to dinner tonight. Yeah!

Laura: hope the twins had a great birthday today. Can't wait to hear about the party.

Hello to sister, Shadowpup, Shoegal, and Elle.

Took Rolly out when it was drizzling and also found a route that no matter how hard it rains there will be no puddles. All up or down hills, no level ground in the rain.

As soon as we got inside the house, I took Rolly off the leach and he immediately went to his favorite spot to poo. I caught him in the act and really yelled at him and let him smell his mess. He knew I was very upset with him. Why in the heck is he doing this? Well, maybe him knowing how upset I am will help the situation. I don't know.:( I'll let him in from outside the compound when I've got a chance to cool down.:( Leash will be a big part of his life for awhile I'm afraid and mine too.:(

Michelle, Great job on the first week of meso 2. Also looks like you and Ripken had a wonderful walk. Enjoy your dinner tonight. Where are you guys going?

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday and having lots of rest time. Or not, but just enjoying the weekend.

Janie

The heat is gone and cooler weather has moved in. We are supposed to get rain, but nothing but sunshine and a nice northern wind blowing so far. Hopefully, it is raining at home. Ripken and I had 2 great walkabouts today. He loves the cooler weather although it is just warm enough here at the marina to wear shorts. So everyone is happy.

Did STS MMA Kickbox earlier today. This is becoming my "go to" cardio on the boat. Tomorrow is the second week of STS meso 2.

Not alot going on. Ripken is napping. Joe is reading the Washington Post and I'm on the computer. Also watching the Ravens-Browns game. Oh, I did order a happy autumn present for my mom from Williams Sonoma. Also bought a Christmas present for her too. Yup, it's that time of year--starting to buy gifts as I see things that say to me: "this would be a good gift for ...." That way, it won't be so crazy come December. I'm hoping I can get my tougher people to buy gifts for done before November. We'll see.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.

Rolly and I are right now having a meeting of the mines. He doesn't want to go potty outside and I want him to. He is on the leash, and take it off while he's put outside the doggie door. He just sits there. After about 3-5 min. I call him in and the leash goes back on. We'll do that every hour or so. So far he hasn't gone potty yet. How long can he Wait? All night and it's almost 11 am in the morning. Jeesh. I will win, he will know this sooner or later.

Joey wants to stop the STS and do other workouts, one of them of course is TBS, so we did that this morning with heavy weights. Hey he lives here too, and if I want him to continue working out with me I have to do it his way every now and then. I'll pick one next and it won't be TBS. We also did one of the ab hits and a stretch with a stability ball. That was really nice.

Michelle, Sounds like yours and Ribkens walks are wonderful in pleasant weather. Great job on MMA Kickbox. Congratulations on the 2nd week of Meso 2. Don't you just love relaxing days? Enjoy the shopping for Christmas, I should do that too.

Now that the weekend is over am looking forward hearing from everyone. I miss you guys!

Janie

PS It took Rolly until 1:30 pm to go potty for the first time since 7:00 pm last night or was it because it stopped raining? He is so stubborn! But, I will be more steadfast and wait him out every time. So far I'm winning.

It seems he likes to go potty at different times from pee and poo. So a half hour later I let him out and he pooed. Big praise and treat. I use the leash as an umbilical cord and he is with me at all times, no free range until we nip this in the bud. I've noticed while he is sitting on the desk while I'm playing on the computer that he puts his paw on me and wiggles when he can't hold it any longer. Yeah! We'll keep this up until he gets the idea again.

Walked Rolly an hour in partial rain but mostly just wet ground.

Poor Rolly! See, this rarely happens with cats. Hope he gets back to being a good boy soon.

Wow! Its early evening and I was home a few hours ago. Can't believe I'm not running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Its nice to come home from school "early". Actually it would be my normal time if it wasn't for karate. Which I love, but even on my non Karate days, it seems like I'm always on the go. Maybe this week will seem more "sane". I would like that a lot.

Did meso 2, legs...disc 20. What a sweat fest that was this morning. Tomorrow its Hiit 40/20. I was suppose to do that Sunday, but opted for the longer workout of MMA: Fusion and Circuit Blast cardio only (nearly 70 minutes total) I'd rather have a short intense 30 minute workout EARLY then a long one. Maybe I'll be able to sleep a little longer. HA! Yeah, right. Meso 2 is really taking it out of me, but I know I will be happy with the results.

The virtue lies in the struggle, not in the prize.

Hi all!

I'm back this week, and mostly taking it off so that I can ... drum roll ... handle this year's Great Bulb Planting :eek::eek: Yep, showed up home, and not only were most of the 20000 (yes, twenty thousand) waiting for me in their little plastic bags and cardboard boxes, but the weather is perfect, the ground was softened by rain while I was gone, and since it is nearly fiscal year end I'd already put the week down as vacation :D

I suppose not everyone thinks that spending their vacation digging up the woods with a shovel is 'fun', but the results are worth it and it certainly is a good way to unwind from all that travel.

Anyway, I'm not quite a third of the way done. My goal is to be at least 75% done by the end of my time off, and then finish up the rest of it at a more leisurely pace on the weekends. Clara had fun working out my planting stats as an informal check on her math, and was rather shocked to learn that it will take me about 70 hours to finish. But it is only once a year.

Because of the planting, I set this week as an 'active recovery week'.

Janie, it sounds like Rolly is beginning to come around. Is it mainly that he hates the rain? Or is it that he doesn't feel like making the effort to go outside? It's an obnoxious problem, but sounds like you've got a good approach.

Renee, enjoy having a little time to yourself! Seems more precious when life is otherwise really busy, doesn't it.

Shoegal, I see you are also in your fall chores: decorating :eek::eek::eek: We get pictures again, right?

Michelle, you are so organized. Christmas? Well, you're right, it is probably easier over all to get started now ... Kickbox on the boat sounds like a great balance challenge in addition to the workout itself. Do you find that the swaying motion of the boat makes a difference?

Elle, Laura, I will need to scroll to the previous page to catch up on what you're doing. Seems to me that last time I checked, Elle, you had some new yoga dvds ... and Laura, you were nursing a bad knee.

I wrote a post on Sunday and lost the whole thing. I didn't bother rewriting.

My fall yoga classes started over the weekend. I'm teaching a kids class for the first time and the kids seem to have enjoyed it.:)

Every once in a while the universe sends a challenging student and i had one in my sunday morning beginner class.:( She pretty much ignored my instruction and did her own thing throughout the class. I guess she wanted to make it obvious to me that she has done yoga before. At the end of the class she asked if the whole course will be this "instructive" since she has taken yoga before and this was not what she was expecting. I told her i was sorry if she was expecting something else, but it is a beginner class which i structure so that by the end of the course the students are able to do a 1.5hr session and can move to my intermediate class if they choose. Each week they practice what they learned the week before and i add on. I didn't ask how long she's been doing yoga but she didn't seem very advanced based on the poses we covered in that class. Regardless of her poses, she hasn't been practicing enough to rise above the ego. In any case, I doubt she will return and i'm ok with that. I think it's important for beginner's to learn correctly to set a good foundation for their practice.

Janie: I hope you get Rolly to behave soon.

Shadowpup: Enjoy your week off and getting your bulbs planted.

Okay - last day before I go on the cruise to the Caribbean!!! Getting ready for that and trying desperately to fend off the sickness that is overtaking the office. Rex has got it - I'm super close - have a sore throat - just waiting for the hacking cough and stuffiness to start - how horrible is that??!!??!?:( and right before vacation. Rex is on some antibiotics now - I'm going to call my doctor and ask her to take pity on me.

Decorating is done!!!! Well, almost done - I got some of these huge spiders that I have crawling up the wall - I want to get some web so it will look more authentic. But then again - who has massive spiders crawling the walls??!?!?!? :p I actually don't believe I have enough stuff!!! Not enough for every room at any rate. I was just going to decorate for fall - but I felt like I had to do it all - including Halloween because it is coming up fast and I'll be away.

Went to a dog walk event in Beaver Pa on Sunday - didn't actually walk the girls - but stopped by to meet up with some other volunteers for GSP Rescue - that was fun. Lots of pups there - it was great to see - even a couple of cats!

Last night I did Amy Bento ASC4 yet again. The step is just SOOO much fun I am just drawn to it - I did it without shoes - and it is starting to take its toll I have to say - I think there is a potential to get some major blisters!!! But I had a blast - I still am not perfect - but I'm working on it. Tonight - S&H Biceps & triceps!! Then I'll be packing. I know - I am really putting it off till the last minute.

Shadowpup - 20,000 bulbs!! Wow - it just must be incredible at your house in the spring. You should really send us pictures. I know you'll be enjoying all that planting. My callas failed this weekend and I had to take them out. Soon I'll be taking out all my summer bulbs - gee whiz how time flies! I did order up some birdseed for the fall & winter.

Janie - sorry about Rolly. Sometimes dogs lapse - seem to forget everything they learned. I know you'll whip him into shape - consistency is key. I know you are doing everything right there - just keep it up. It is a pain - and frustrating - but its worth it - for both of you.

Michelle - I wish I was you and was getting some Christmas shopping done - it would really take a load off my mind. Sounds as if you & Ripken are enjoying the nice fall weather. Rex and I were a little bummed that we were going to miss some of it. Already on Meso 2!!! Gee that goes fast!

Renee - So what belt do you have in Karate now? I think you went for the testing - yellow? orange?? but didn't hear how that turned out. I think you'll have your black belt in no time!! Good job on the sweat fest. ASC4 is like that - you should try that - I think you'd love it!!!

Laura - how did the girls B-day party turn out - how are the knees healing up??

Elle - You were posting just as I was writing all this - so I'm going back to edit here. I've had students in my classes who wanted to do their own thing - have to wonder about her though - why would she sign up for a beginner class if she didn't want to follow it - what did she think beginner meant? When you teach - do you still do your own practice - or does the classes count as workouts?

Well - I am not sure how often I'll be able to post on board the ship - if at all. So don't expect to hear from me - but I'll be looking to work out while I'm on board and I'll be thinking of all of you. Take care!!

I'm not sure what happened to me yesterday. I'm sure I stopped by to post but then I didn't. Guess I got distracted. Anyway--yesterday was STS disc 16, chest, shoulders, and triceps. I keep upping the weight amounts by a pound or two. I was happy to get through the shoulder work which is always the hardest for me. Today I did HIIT Double Wave Pyramid and no equipment abs on STS ab circuits. DWP is a major huff-n-puff workout. Ripken definitely got his licks in.

Well, I hate to be the downer but--one of our Colonels lost his son in a auto accident this past weekend. High school senior, 17 years old, on his way home after playing in the Friday night football game. Zipping down one of our country roads in Stafford in the middle of the road, swerved to miss an on-coming car and richocheted off the road and into some trees. He did miss the on-coming car but suffered major injuries and the family took him off life support Saturday morning. It's just heart-wrenching. I think all the analysts on my team and our VP will be going to the visitation tomorrow to pay our respects.

On a brighter note: my friend Janet is coming in to work today for some meetings. This is my friend who was diagnosed with occular melanoma last spring. She has her new eyeball and seems to be in a much better place these days, mentally and emotionally. I am looking forward to seeing her.

Janie: well somehow Rolly got off track but it sounds like you have a plan going that will get him re-housebroken.

Elle: I didn't realize that you teach yoga classes. That is pretty nifty.

Shadowpup: another 20,000 bulbs? Do you plant these by hand? I have a friend at work who is awed by your bulb planting.

Shoegal: have a great time on your vacation.

Hi to sister.
~michelle

Was a fine mist today and able to walk Rolly for a couple of hours in it. We enjoyed it very much. Sweaty but fun. Rolly is still on a leash for awhile yet, but hey, no accidents.

I discovered another instructor that uses lots of reps in her exercises. The DVD's are Dove's Bodies Total Body Workout 1-4. I have 3 and 4, and they are much much better than Jerri Love's DVD's, not even close. These workouts are amazing! I'll be doing the 3rd vol. of hers tomorrow. After Joe's and my Firm Vol. 1 workout. Dove is not new to instructing, she's been on the market for a very long time, but I didn't realize how good she is. She teaches her method at her own studio. Many well known people take those classes, she is very sought after and I can see why.

Renee, I hope Rolly learns better too. Great job on those legs. Sounds like you are doing just what you are suppose to be doing on your workouts.

Deborah, Thanks for the link to Forza 2, I'll go back and order now. Wish it wasn't so expensive though. Ouch! OMG! You have so many bulbs to plant. Is this more than last year? Oh, I've got to see the pictures come Spring for sure! What a perfect vacation, doing the things you love to do best. 70 hours of pure delight, perfect for an active recovery week;). Good for you.

Elle, I didn't know you teach yoga to children. How fun! There is always a person like that everywhere you go. Challenging aren't they? Sounds like you are a very good teacher. Congratulations!

Shoegal, OK, where are the pictures of these spiders crawling up the walls? I have to see those! How exciting about the Caribbean, all I can say is enjoy and have lots of fun. I hope you don't get sick, how awful! Please don't get sick. The doctor will have mercy on you. The dog walk sounds very interesting. Great job on Amy again and put your shoes on next time. I love her workouts. Also great job on S&H biceps and triceps.

Michelle, Great job on STS disc 16 and for lifting heavier, also for HIIT. Yeah again! So sorry about your Colonels son. That is so young! How horrible! It's really good news about your friend. Let us know how it goes, and how she's doing.

Have a good one everyone,

Janie

Today was a great walkabout with Ripken this morning and then STS disc 17, legs. I don't know what I did but I'm experiencing a little tenderness in the left side of my lower back. You'd think on legs, you wouldn't feel a little soreness in your back, but you do. So I was very careful this morning--made sure I was staying in good form on all my exercises so I didn't mess it up anymore. So far, so good.

Janie: good to hear that Rolly is doing better with his house-breaking behavior. I've never heard of Dove's workouts. I will have to give them a look--even if just to expand my knowledge of stuff that's out there vice actually purchasing anything.

Shoegal: you are probably on your way to your cruise. Hope this tropical storm in the caribbean doesn't mess things up for you. But it sounds like it is a fast mover, so maybe by the time your ship leaves the pier, the worst of the storm will have moved north.

Not much else going on. Just the regular work routine. I think I can hear Shadowpup counting bulbs as she plants them; 3021, 3022, 3033....
