Getting Our Licks In!

I can't believe my active recovery week has come and gone. Yesterday I started meso 2, and did disc 13, chest, shoulders and tri's. I felt incredibly weak too! :( The chest work was hard and I had to drop down in weight from my card. I felt very frustrated. Then I read my card wrong and tried to do 18 pound dumb bell shoulder presses. (It said 19 but I went 18)....well, that was my one max rep! Oops. I squeeked out 10 of 12 reps before giving up. Looked at my card, hit my head with my hand and said "duh". I should have been doing 13 pounds. So I went with 14 on the next two rounds, and boy was that A LOT easier. I thought with 18 I'd pull something but luckily didn't. Triceps, the indicated weights were just right, a good challenge. But I was glad to get it done.

Later that morning I went outside to mow. My push mower had to be fixed, and I had just got it back so, out I went getting the places my riding mower can't get. I somehow managed to find a nest of yellow jackets and got stung 4 times! I stopped the mower and ran inside slapping at my body. Two of those things followed my inside, I shoshed one out the door and the other one was still stuck on my shirt. I managed to kill it and save it just in case. In case of what? Well, I am allergic to bee stings. So, I popped two benedryl and got out my epi pen. Never had to use it before. I was chicken. I called my Mom and told her what happened, and she urged me to use it. My stings were starting to swell...and and that was enough encouragement right there. BAM! Into my right leg it went, and I just sat there watching as the swellings started to visibly go down. The epi pen didn't even hurt, so now I know not to be chicken. I got stung on my upper back, left tricep, right thigh and right inside ankle. That one is still slightly swollen, it itches and it hurts. I am suppose to do HiiT 30/30 today. I'm not sure if it will get done. Oh well.

I am now an orange belt. Friday evening was belt "graduation". And, yes, I get to keep every belt I earn, in case you were wondering. They don't get "turned in."

Today I will just do what is needed to get done around the house and relax and watch some football. I hope everyone has a pleasent Sunday.

Yesterday was a beautiful day but I ate way too much.:( By the end of the day i was feeling exhausted and lay down to take a nap and ended up waking up this morninng. I slept for almost 15 hours! I had taken 1/2 of an anti-histamine yesterday. They usually make me tired which is why i only took 1/2 but i guess that was enough to knock me out!

Renee: Congrats on moving on to your next belt! That's crazy getting attacked by yellowjackets like that! Good thing you had your epi-pen and didn't have a serious reaction. I always react very badly to insect stings and bites. A trick my mom taught me is to soak a face cloth in vinegar and baking soda and apply to the affected area. It immediately takes away the pain and helps with the swelling.

Today we are having a wet dog Sunday. We haven't had rain in a while so we are happy for the rain and Ripken likes getting toweled dry so I will most likely have to do a load of dog towels later today to stay ahead of the curve on the toweling off. Did Travel Fit this morning. Broke out a new band which help kick things up a notch.;)

Elle: sounds like your body just needed a good rest. Nothing wrong with that. Don't worry about eating too much. We all do that from time to time. Just as long as we don't make a habit of it and keep exercising--no big deal.

Speaking of overeating: DH and I went out last night and had a very nice meal. We went to a restaurant on the island that we haven't been to in a couple of years and we were not disappointed. I had a ceasar salad and the shrimp saute with veggies and risotto. Yummy. Joe had the pasta special which was served with salmon, shrimp, and bay scallops. The salmon was prepared just perfectly. Unfortunately, our "regular" place has gone downhill this year to the point that we will no longer recommend it to visitors at our marina and we are no longer going there either. We know the owner but he hasn't been around the restaurant much this year and that is the problem. The staff has become way too relaxed and the service and quality of the food has really suffered. One of these days we will run into him and let him know what we have observed but until then we will either prepare our meals on the boat (which we tend to do) or go elsewhere.

Like sister, we are just hanging out and watching football. Most people have packed up and gone home so the marina is very quiet.

Just relaxing today, playing games on the computer, walked Rolly finally. It's pleasant. Here are some pictures of the bread I baked yesterday. That was a busy day!

This is whats most likely keeping me from losing weight.:( I'm not bad off but could be at a better weight.

Deborah, How nice to hear from you. Tomorrow is Canada day and a long time before Friday. Where will you be traveling to next? Are you having some fun time during your trips? I hope so.

Renee, Wow on the weights you are lifting even if it was by mistake. You go girl! Congratulations on the orange belt. You deserve it. You worked really hard for it. How scary about the hornet incident. I'm so glad you are OK.

Elle, I ate too much too. Bread is all over the place. It looks like my kitchen is barfing up bread!

Michelle, Sounds like you ate a very nice meal. Just right if you ask me. Sorry the restaurant wasn't up to par.

Have a nice rest of the day.

I just finished some segments from Shiva Rea's Yogini DVD. Instead of doing the whole thing i decided to use the matrix to select a couple of segments. Here is my summary of today's segments:

I started with the 7 minute healing meditation for women: It's not really a meditation but it is relaxing. You start out on your knees sitting on your feet and then move to a standing position. the emphasis is on self massage.

Then i did the Flow of Empowerment: this is a 22 minute standing vinyasa. Shiva has you do pushups, downward dogs, warriors, and squats. During the warrior she has you do a shooting bow movement with your arms and during the squats she has you do some arm movements while saying "Ha!". This segment ended on the floor in cobblers pose. I love the drum beats during this segment.

Last i did the 3 minute Savasana: What can i say? It was relaxing.:p

I'm planning on trying the other segments again this week. The segments i did today would be good for when you aren't feeling energetic and want a shorter practice.

Janie: mmmm! That bread looks delicious!

Michelle: That really is a shame that restaurant went downhill. I'm sure they've lost a lot of business besides yours.

Sorry to have been so inconsistent lately...lots of factors for that;
the injury so not so many workouts to report:(:(
the fire and the chaotic energy from that around here:confused::(
the girls starting school and settling into a new routine:D
my mom moving here:D:D:D
we still haven't solved our internet issue:mad:;):(

Anyway I did do the Upper Body Premix from 4DS plus abs, calves and a stretch a couple of days ago and had good DOMS for a few days.

I am going to the gym today to work Chest & Triceps. The Recreation Center where I teach is closed for a week of maintenance so luckily I don't have to teach this week and I get a little longer to heal up. I will get my stitches out this week but my right knee is far from ok and I am very worried about it. It was doing better and so I tried a hike last thursday and it really set me back again for many days.:( Next week I will be teaching 5 classes in 3 days and one of them is a ski conditioning class! YIKES!!!

Haven't caught up with the posts but will try and come back to them when I have more time and less 'have to's' to do on line while I am waiting for my car to get an oil change

Getting ready to do disc 10, chest, shoulders and biceps. Will walk Rolly if weather permits.

Elle, I love Shiva, isn't she great? Great job on the segments.

Laura, Great job on the upper body 4DS plus abs. I know it's got to be difficult, but just hang in there. It will get better, I promise. Just don't do anything to early, make sure there is enough time for your knees to heal. I'm sorry you have to go through this.

Have a great day everyone.

Janie

OUCH! My body has some major doms going on. I am now in meso 2 and using what seems to me a lot of weight. I am using my new 30 pound dumb bells, and thats what seems to be kicking it up a notch. 30 pound chest flies definately make me go "oh my!" and using them for squats also has my glutes and legs saying "whaaatt!" Which is good, because I was not getting that anymore with 25's. My cats can't even walk across my chest at night without a scream of pain being uttered by the human! :D

I got a nice surprise when I got home. A package from Cathe. Not her personally, but a "late" b-day present from sister! Thanks sister! She gave me the firewalker bands and the TERMINATOR dvd. Super cool. I had to put on the firewalker bands and scoot around the kitchen. Didn't do for long, since my legs and glutes hurt already. But its cool...3 bands of different resistance levels. And the TERMINATOR dvd looks absolutely killer. Can't wait to try it out once I am done with STS! Three different workouts on that dvd. Neato torpeado!

School is busy and fun. Lots going on. Getting my fourth graders ready for a program next month about the Underground Railroad. Will start my after school chorus program next week. It never ends, but thats okay, cuz I like it! ;)

The next 8 week cycle of karate will involve using the bow staff weapon. That should be interesting, and hopefully fun.

Haven't had a quote lately, but I found to my liking: You're happiest while you're making the greatest contribution. Robert F. Kennedy

Today i did the other segments from Shiva Rea Yogini:

Flow of Love: 27 minute vinyasa including lunges with side bends , standing half splits , kneeling bow , parigasana forward bend. ending with camel and bow. This one has the same music from the beginner DVD but i'm not sure if something is wrong with my DVD. I hear some distortion/static on the base. It's not major but a little distracting and it's only on this segment.

Flow of Beauty:16 minute vinyasa includes standing side bends flowing into yogic squat, a nice variation of lunge that is shown on the cover with fluid arm movements. it ends with free form arms and legs movements on the side and on the back.

Savasana: 3 minutes

Breaking up the practice yesterday and today let me become more familiar with the routine and i'm liking it more now.

Janie: Nothing like a good chest/bicep/shoulder workout to work off some of that bread!:p

Laura: Sorry your knee is not healing as quick as you would like.:( Maybe the universe is forcing you to slow down. Hang in there!

Renee: What a great suprise to get a Cathe gift delivered to your door! How lucky are you to have a sister that understands your passion for Cathe?

Hello everyone. Last night I did Christi Taylor yet again - I'm loving that CIA step workout and can't seem to get enough of it - tonight I plan to do a Gym Style - the one I haven't done - something with back, biceps, and shoulders.

Well - on Saturday I got a call from my sister telling me that another neighbor (this family lives right next to my mother) and we had known this family for years and grew up with them. The children had all grown and moved out, the mother had died years and years earlier, but the father stilled lived there. Well, the father died on Saturday. They found him in his computer room sitting in a chair - seemed to have passed on Thursday of natural causes. My old neighborhood is really taking a hit. It was extremely upsetting. We spent all day on Sunday visiting with his daughter who just seemed in shock and disbelief. I am going to the funeral home this evening. :(:(:(

Yesterday I was out of town - had to travel to exotic Buffalo for a meeting. The meeting wasn't that long - but driving up and back was quite tiresome and a long long ride. I read all the posts and I am all caught up. I think I'm going to get some breakfast now.

Wow--lots of stuff going on. I'm glad that we finally have heard from Laura what with those fires going on out your way.

Yesterday, I did KickMax. I've been doing MMA KB more of late and it was fun to do KickMax again. Gotta love those leg drills. I'm looking forward to finishing meso1 this week and then I think I will move straight into meso 2 since I've already had a break this last week. I've got more travel coming up in October and it's going to continue to break up my STS workouts. I'm feeling a little discouraged because I like staying on the STS workout schedule. Not doing so, I feel like I'm not getting the full benefit of the program. But I'm going to stick with it for now and see how things go.

Sister: I'm happy to hear that you got your surprise. I kind of dawdled around on ordering because I couldn't decide what I wanted to get you. You are going to need those firewalker bands for Cathe's new workouts. I previewed the Terminator dvd and decided it looked like something you would really like--very challenging combos. Sounds like you are going to be having fun on meso 2.

Shoegal: I'm sorry to hear about your neighbor passing away. While it's seems sudden, at least he didn't suffer a terrible, debilitating sickness. Sounds like he was living well right up to the end.

Laura: once again, I'm glad we have heard from you. It sounds like you may need some PT with your knee. Such a tricky part of the body.

Elle: thanks for the reviews on your latest Shiva Rea dvd. I'm still trying to master her beginner's flow yoga dvd.

Janie: all that bread sure looks good. Nothing like fresh baked bread--particularly when it is still a little warm from the oven. Yummy.

Back home later today. Will try to get STS disc 10 done.

Walked Rolly today and will do some other form of cardio than on the schedule. I want to do Step Moves instead of a HITT. We'll see.

Renee, You are doing so well with your workouts. Very proud and you are inspiring. Perfect presents for you from your sis. She knows you well.;) It must be really nice to go to work and love it. Most people don't get to experience that. Glad you are.:) The Underground Railroad is great history, enjoy teaching it to your students. And the Chorus Program sounds like a lot of fun.

Elle, I am working or trying to work off the bread, but there's more bread to eat! LOL. It's fine, I only have two very thin slices a day for my lunch or dinner. A lot of the times it's only one. I savor every bite.:) Nothing like yoga I always say. Keep it going. Makes me want to do one too.

Shoegal, Great job on your workouts with CT and tonight doing GS. Those are awesome workouts.

My prayers and (((((hugs))))) for you and the loss of a family's father. How sad.:(

Michelle, Great job on KB, not ease for sure, but lots of sweat! LOL Don't feel discouraged, at least you are doing your workouts consistently. You can always do STS without a rotation. It's OK you know. You are getting full benefits by doing your exercises. I'm proud of you.

Laura, How ya doing? Are you healing and taking your time about it! Thinking of you.;)

Janie

Yesterday i did my own yoga practice in the gym at the office. I'm enjoying the mix of Shiva Rea yoga and my own practice since they challenge me in different ways.

Shoegal: So sorry to hear about your family friend. Hopefully you will have no more bad news for a while.

Michelle: Great job on KickMax. I hate it when a disruption in my routine affects my workouts. At least you know in advance so you can plan accordingly.

Janie: It's easier for me to not have temptation around. if i had all that fresh baked bread around here it would be very difficult to only have 1-2 slices per day. I need to develop more willpower i guess.

Hi everyone! Monday I did a version of GS Chest & Triceps down at the North Boulder Recreation Center, as I am staying at my mom's this week while she is India and my Rec Center is closed for the week for maintenance. The weird thing was that my core was SO SERIOUSLY SORE yesterday even though I didn't do any core work! Isn't that strange? It must be either from all those pushups or just from bracing in the core lifting the heavier weights or maybe even just rolling up and down to the bench with heavy weights for the chest?

Last night Bo surprised me by taking me out to the infamous Beer Dinner at our local Pizza joint, the food was beyond superb, each combination of food and beer a heavenly experience! Luckily I managed to not fall out of my seat!;) Or eat to much!!

I will try to get in a GS Back, Shoulders, & Biceps today at the Gym or maybe tomorrow as today is getting kind of full already...

Catchick: ouch! LOVE HATE THOSE DOMS!! You know Cathe often says when you aren't getting them anymore it is time to go up in weights! Sounds like that is exactly what you needed!

ElleP: hmmmm your yoga sounds so wonderful! I wonder if I could manage some with my bum knee? Not the lunges but maybe some good stretching!
Sounds like you are really finding your grove again with the exercise! See, it doesn't take to long for it to become a habit again does it?

Shoegal: sounds like you and I are on the GS kick! Wish I could be stepping! I am really cutting back on calories because I can't exercise like I usually do, but man oh man I feel like I am turning into a big fat blob and my thighs are instantly turning to a tub of gooo with out the step!

Michelle: ahh I wish I had a sister like you! It is frustrating with the interruptions to our workouts, but hey that is life, and the reason we get results is that we just keep getting what we can in when we can, right? I had lots of interruptions on my STS rotation and I still had massive improvements in strength!

Janey: that bread was beautiful! Did you bake it? I am with Elle, it would be hard for me to have that around and not want to eat it all day long!

I got my new Amy Bento ASC4 yesterday - I broke down and preordered - but you all know what a step fanatic I am - there was no way to resist it especially since I absolutely love ASC2. When I got home last night - it was about 10pm - and I was practically falling asleep - so no workout yesterday for me. Although I am really really excited about this new step :D:D:D - I think I will do the GS: Back, Shoulders and Biceps tonight. I am weak and I need to build the muscle.

So Rex and I went to the funeral home last night - it was weird seeing these old neighbors - we have all grown up - all have different lives and haven't seen one another in so many years. I really didn't recognize some of them and I wondered that if I didn't recognize them - would they know me??? Have I changed that much???? Well -as it turns out they knew me right away. :)

Janie - wanted to tell you that your bread looked amazing - wish I could bake like that!!!

Laura - glad you enjoyed the beer dinner - what a great night. I sent Rex something about an outdoor wine tasting - with appetizers - sounded great. He was way way too practical and said for the cost of the event - we could order 3 appetizers and drink 7 glasses of wine each!! So I guess it was overpriced.

Elle - love how you are customizing those workouts to suit your mood - I think I'll look up Shiva Rea - your descriptions of the different segments sound so intriguing and fun!!!

Looking forward to exercise tonight!!!

So I did get a GS Back, Shoulders, & Biceps type workout in the gym! Which felt really great to be working out...I just had to come and say my pushups have gotten sooooo much better as far as form and the amount I can do from my toes since STS, it really is AMAZING the difference! I was so excited about it from Monday that I add on another drop set of 16 to 2 for my warm up today!

Shoegal: want to improve strength? GIRL YOU HAVE STS!!!! You got to do it!
It really, really, really works!

Today i decided to try the next Shiva Rea DVD: Daily Energy. I did the segment called "Earth" and added on the Core & Forward Bend bonus segments and ended with Savasana. So far, I Love this DVD and can't wait to try the rest.:D There are seven vinyasa's that you can mix and match with the matrix as well as several "premix" type of practices which combine the segments into various practices.

Shoegal: Enjoy your new workout and be sure to let us know how you like it.

Laura: Your mom is in India! How great is that? How long is she gone for? Great job on your pushups and i'm glad you enjoyed the beer dinner.

:pDid the GS: Back, Shoulders & Biceps - worked hard - the back of the DVD said it was 62 minutes long - it was actually about 51 minutes. Good workout -and I worked hard. Tonight ASC4!!!!! I am all excited - this is probably going to take me a bit of time to learn though - Amy's step doesn't include alot of breakdown. She has a preview section that I'll have to go through as well - because she STRONGLY reccommends that you review it.

Laura - I actually thought that same thing last night!!!!! STS - Strength Training System - yes I have it - and it is actually a sin that I haven't done it yet. But I will say this - I don't think I'm cut out for rotations - I have managed to finish a couple but it is always a struggle and 2nd - If it wasn't for that 1RM testing I probably would have done it already. So I've actually been thinking - I will just go ahead and start anyway and go through without getting all of it done. It is better and more useful to me than not doing it at all.

Elle - Looked at a couple of Shiva Rea DVDs - she is really pretty - they only had 2 on Collage - one had a bunch of small routines that you could mix and match - lots and lots of materials and the other was like 75 minutes long. Both looked good - I watched the clips. Someone's review said that it was too advanced for her - and she had to work up to it - I think that would be me. I have done minimal yoga. Too much step here ;):p:p. But it all looked very interesting - espeically the one just for women.

Going to get going - time for breakfast!!!

I just finished the core section from 4DS Kickboxing and 25 minutes of personal pilates! I doubt I will do anything else today as my knee is still very painful and swollen!

Shoegal:yea I think you should just do some of STS and see if you like it! It really does work as a system, but no doubt you will get benefits however you chose to do it!

ElleP:well now you and Shoegal has me wanting to go look up some yoga DVD's!!:eek:
