Exerciers with physical health challenges new check in

Today, did a mish mash of Youtube lower body plus a little core.
Jackie Warners one on one Lower Body, Tamilee Webb segment of Thighs of Steel with ankle weights, segments of Paul Katamis Kettlebell Core Combos (love his standing abs) and practiced some deadlifts again ....this time with dumbbells (with neutral grip) rather than barbell.
I thought Tamilee Webb was excellent & shows great form until she began to gossip about & judge the “flabby“ people she knows. Thats just rude and a little weird to be in a fitness video I thought. lol.

Its such a gorgeous night here tonight, hope to get DH to go for a stroll with me! : )

Elsie, I used to do Tamilee Webb's Buns of steel videos all the time! I remember they seemed so difficult and I would be sore for days. I would love to try those videos today to see if they are still as "tough" as I remember. I would rotate between her w/o's, karen Voights and Gilads. Prior to finding Cathe they were the best I could find.
I spent most of my day yesterday on the phone and doing computer work. I had to call AT&T wireless about a few issues I was having with my cell service . The customer service representative was great and solved all my issues. Then I called quite a few medical alert companies and got my father signed up for one. He agreed to wear the device which shocked all of my siblings. After seeing him this weekend we all realized how weak he was, i convinced him that the monitoring was to ease our minds.
I went to my AG sculptilates class in the evening which was fun. We did a few crazy tricks on the hammock, I will need to practice them at home this week. Today I am going to a yoga class. Enjoy your day!

Katie, so very happy to hear that your Dad has agreed to a monitoring service. What a load off right? Sorry that he is weak, though. Does he have anyone to do the majority of housekeeping etc?
Your AG classes sound like a lot of fun!
Seems every third day now, I have to take a rest day or a mainly rest day. Today was a rest day & yeah, pretty sore from my lower body workouts this week. Especially those hip muscles. Had planned on washing the duvets and that today, but wasn't up to that either! lol.

Hi Elsie, Having my dad agree to the med alert was a real stress reliever, I did not think he would agree to it. I just hope he wears it, he promised he would. He has a lady who does some superficial cleaning every 2 weeks, but that is all the help he has. I wish I lived closer to help him. I don't think he eats well since shopping is difficult for him. He looked like he had lost a significant amount of weight since the last time I saw him. I wouldn't normally mind seeing him lose weight, but it looked like he lost a lot of muscle tone as well.
Today I did CSS and RWH abs one..
I have learned that as I age I need more rest days. It frustrates me that I can't be the "energizer bunny" that I used to be, lol.
My AG classes are great, I wish I lived in NYC so I could take classes with Christopher Harrison, everyone says his classes are amazing. I am thinking of taking my certification at his studio instead of locally. I am not a "city" girl so going there makes me uncomfortable, but I really want to learn it correctly so I can teach it well. I need to decide soon so I can sign up before their deadline.
It is cold and rainy here, looks like a good afternoon to sip hot cocoa and read a good book. I hope you both are having nicer weather where you are,

Oh, hot cocoa. That is what I would like too!! Instead I am nursing a bad tummy with ginger root tea. That's not too bad either! lol
As we get older we do lose muscle tone Katie. And it is tough with diet with older folks. I know with my FIL, he has to eat low fat due to cholesterol issues, and didn't digest grains all tha well either but it's not doing him any favours when it came to keeping on a sensible amount of weight. It really is a balancing act I think.

Today, I did a short chest workout and a Jessica Smith plus a Firm stretch session.

Have a wonderful Friday ladies!!

I have never tasted ginger root tea, how do you make it? I sometimes eat ginger chews, so yummy. They have them at the AG studio for when people get nausea from being upside down.
Today I did LIS-LIC extreme challenge, I have never done this one before. It ends with the bonus step segment from CSS, it was a nice add on. I then played on my hammock to practice some of the moves we did in class on wednesday. I practiced them first in a low hammock so if I fell it wasn't too far to the ground. Then I worked on the same moves in high hammock, much scarier but such a fun challenge! I love having the hammock in my house. I cannot wait to learn more aerial stunts!
I hope you all have a nice weekend.
It has been awhile since we heard from Amy, I hope all is well with her.Hopefully she had a chance to visit with her family.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I have went on a few walks, mostly under 1.5 hrs each. The weather has been just gorgeous. I REALLY need to get back to my upper body strength this week.
For ginger tea, it's nothing special just use a nutmeg grinder to grind the fresh ginger root, add a small of brown sugar & anise, boil on 5-6 for under 15 mins & there it is! A mini version of a full on chai tea I suppose. It helps me with upper stomach gas. Sorry TMI!!

I am so looking forward to ICE now that we have some new photos of them filming it. I think it is just what I will need for my upper body as I am liking doing two upper body parts max at a time these days and I have to do a 'starter' workout on the ball before going to weights it seems.
Gonna miss Brenda however as she is not pictured yet.

Elsie, I've never heard of the bar you mentioned, I will have to go check that out... ;) I need more rest days and gentler workouts too, it seems I won't be able to use Cathe as my role model any more. I used to always say I would keep up with her as I get old, my theory being that if I keep consistent, I will be able to maintain the fitness level and intensity even as I age, but now I realize my body doesn't agree. Still using her workouts as inspiration and fun factor, but modifying where necessary, which is tuning into more and more modifications... With that said, I did Low impact circuit today and enjoyed it a lot and got worked hard.

Katie, I'm so glad with you that your dad agreed to the device! That is at least some peace of mind, even though there are other concerns, such as the eating. I think going to get your certification on NYC sounds awesome although I'd have the same big city concerns... But you can deal with it, it's just short term....

But you can deal with it, it's just short term....
ITA! Plus, Katie, you'll be immersed in your program and the time will really fly!

Today, I did a short segment from Tamilee Webb again focusing on hamstring floorwork, then some heavywieght lower chest exercises, a beautiful stretch routine from Jessica Smith ( I am liking her more & more!) and tried a Classic Firm stretch video on Gaim TV. It was just okay.
Oh, also got in a brisk walk while running errands. Had to get a flea tx for my cat. Not sure of it's fleas and could not find any on her, but want to nip it in the bud just in case as I do NOT want that in my house. lol. That would mean having to go through everything and wash it in scalding hot water and our washer isn't working too well these days! For some reason, it does not get very, very hot. I mean, most things I just wash in cold or cool anyway but I do like washing towels and pillowcases in very, very warm. Anyway ......

This is true, but I don't know my way around NYC and I tend to get nervous in unfamiliar places. Hopefully I can convince myself to do it, I tend to back out when I get nervous.

Elsie, I had a flea issue with my dog recently as well. I saw 2 fleas on her and panicked!! I vacuumed the entire house, washed everything I could, put on flea medication. All of that was probably unnecessary but i wasn't going to risk it.
The washing machines and dishwashers today have a water temp regulator on them to prevent scalding and conserve energy. IMHO it is really crazy because you can't get things cleaned liked before.

I started meso 2 of STS this week. Since last week was my "rest" week from doing weights I felt really weak and had to drop my wts considerably!!
I really hope ICE works for me, I am thinking intermediate w/o's will be just fine at this stage of my life!
Today I did yoga, it was a really good class and I learned so much. The "lightbulb" in my head finally turned on and I realized the mistake I was doing in quite a few "simple" poses, lol.
It is a beautiful day here so i am going to take my dog for a walk and maybe do some outside work. Enjoy your day!

Thats what I really love about yoga. Such a full practice of body, mind and heart.

Hoping to get to the PiYo class today, but I have so much to do and I am so frazzled and stressed. We'll see!!

We had to deal with fleas before too. We had good results with lavender essential oil. I'm grateful I have a washing machine that has a sanitary cycle and it will heat up to the required temps even if the water heater isn't hot enough. Nice option to have.
Workout for me was sts legs week one me so one. I'm already sore...Lol!

Katie, I can relate to getting nervous when you go someplace you don't know. I can't believe how I did it with ease when I was young and now things stress me out much quicker. I went on a plane to England by myself when I was sixteen and thought it was no big deal for crying out loud.... Now I avoid driving to downtown Portland simply because I worry about narrow lanes and one way street confusion...

Menopause has me so stressed, anxious, and depressed!! I went to the gyne for my yearly checkup and she was useless, her suggestion was exercising, eating right, yoga etc.. I weigh 122 pounds, am very toned, low BP etc.. doesn't she realize I already do all of that, lol. Her next suggestion was birth control pills, when I tried that 2 years ago I was a raving lunatic!! So then she suggested prozac for 2 weeks prior to my period, well if they were regular or consistent that would be great but they are not. Most antidepressants cause a huge wt gain which has me a little stressed, so I suggested Welbutrin since that usually doesn't cause the wt gain, and hopefully will give me some energy. It is also supposed to help with SAD which I tend to get in the winter. I hope it helps keep me sane during this transition.
Today will be a cleaning am, walk the dog and AG tonight.
I hope you both have a good day.

Wow, Katie, what a drag hormones are when they don't act like they should! I hope you find something that works!

I did body max 2 cardio premix, I enjoyed it and it worked me good!

So sorry to hear this Katie. Is it possible to find another doctor? I hope you do not mind me saying/sharing (if I'm overstepping, just let me know, I am happy to back away) that your doctor (yes s/he is a gyne) is not well versed at ALL in mental health. That is not how prozac works at all! You have to take it continuously for it to have the desired/required effect on neurochemistry. It usually takes most people 7 weeks to feel the improvements. Taking it just before your period will 1. not do very much and having periods will you go on and off it may 2. create sleep problems. I've worked in mental health for almost 20 years and I just cannot believe a doctor would suggest that and try and use a basic ssri so unknowingly. I mean, perhaps she has seen some placebo effects in people before, but I can assure you that taking prozac "for awhile" will not do much. You made the proper choice there. Most anxiety meds on the other hand, DO work in such a fashion. Also, I just find it dissmissive when a doctor suggests eating right like it can solve everything. Like you don't already know the benefits of eating a good diet. My rant is finished.
I do and have been on anxiety medications and it saved me (along with CBT), so I am not anti-med in the least, just I know using a ssri in that way is like suggesting nothing. Okay, now my rant is really over.

((Hugs))

My workout this evening was Tracie Long Staying Power (skipped the floor core work) & Leah Sarago 18 min kneeling thigh series which I found difficult.
The Body Max cardio looks very tough Cendrine. Good for you!!

Thanks for letting me complain about my menopausal symptoms. Hormones really can make life miserable when they go up and down like they can in menopause.
Elsie, thank you for responding, I come on this thread to seek knowledge and hopefully get good advice. Your input was very helpful, and I am planning on a new dr. I started on St. John's wort about a month ago when I really couldn't take the "ups and downs" I was having, and knowing that winter is around the corner. It has finally started working but I still am not sleeping, and still have days where I just don't feel like myself. I would prefer a more natural treatment since I don't like taking prescription medication, but the herbs here are not regulated so you never know what is in them. If either of you know any natural treatments please feel free to let me know.
Today I am going to a yoga class.

Workout today was sts week 2 legs. Tough stuff and I'm not even pushing the weights... Lol

Katie, I don't have any quick solutions but I do have a few thoughts based on what I discovered about myself on my healing journey. It has always baffled me how I can give so much self care to my body in exercise, proper nutrition and rest and be having worse symptoms than some people who do a lot less. I believed firmly in all I was doing but I wasn't seeing results. There are many aspects to my discoveries. One of the things that has helped me is realize that I had leaky gut issues and my body could not actually do much with the good nutrition I was giving it because of leaky gut, which, in a nutshell, sends food particles into the bloodstream before they are small enough and the body only recognizes it as an invader and attacks it with inflammation. I think I've pretty much healed the gut lining now, so gut health is on the up. The next thing I discovered was thanks to doing hair mineral tissue analysis. I would not have seen this had I not had real numbers from test results. It turns out, based on my results, that I'm a very poor eliminator, meaning my body does not detox chemicals and toxic metals and such with any good efficiency. My body is in effect holding on to toxins. So while I'm minimizing toxic exposure, the stuff that is already in is not coming out. These toxins are affecting my body's mineral balances, which in turn affect the functions of my hormones, most specifically the thyroid and the adrenals. The program I am on is focusing heavily on mineral rich, sulfuric vegetables because they help overtime balance out the mineral imbalances, which will then increase hormone function. I also take a bunch of supplements, all natural, based on my test, to help with the remineralizing and the healing of the hormones and organs affected, and also helps with detoxification. Because I evidently don't eliminate toxins well, I have added detox helps such as saunas, detox baths, foot reflexology, skin brushing, that kind of thing to help my body get in gear. After a five month stint of this my retest showed better elimination of toxins and I have seen some improvements of symptoms. One that has me amazed is that as these toxins are finally getting kicked out I have noticed progress in my spiritual journey, which also affects my emotions positively. Have also noticed, after being on the program for about seven months, that my body is starting to respond to natural remedies better. The other day I came down with the beginnings of a sore throat and nasal congestion, I just took two doses of essential oils and was fine whereas usually I would battle it this way for a week or more. Also, I am now able to manage my asthma with essential oils, a year ago, only the inhaler would do. Things like this encourage and motivate me to stay the course.
All of this takes time, effort, money and focus. But I would like to point out that the people on this program that I talk to on fb do only portions of it, some just take the supplements and try to eat reasonably but not fully on the program, and they are seeng results, just doing that. So don't let the entirety of the program discourage you. But it is a slow process, I wish there were ways to speed it up. But at least I'm not having to deal with side effects of drugs. Besides, none of my medical doctors had any answers or suggestions for me other than eat healthy and exercise, just like you were told.
None of this will give you any relief right here and now, but I bet it would help long term. There is some pms protocol some people do on the program, I'll find it and post it too. Maybe that will help in a more direct way.

Katie, I personally have not reached that stage of my life yet being 36. I do get pms vertigo that scares me, but that is about it. Sometimes I cannot do much due to it.
Most women (including my aunts) that have gone through something similar to what you have been experiencing, have spoken well about taking magnesium powder (you want to make sure it is magnesium glycinate) and using magnesium topically to help with sleep and irritability.
So that is all I can offer I am afraid. Other than perhaps finding yourself a great TCM doctor and acupuncturist who specializes in women's health and endocrine issues. Chinese herbs are usually very effective when you have a great & patient practitioner. I took something a little while ago for the vertigo I was having and it cleared it up in a few weeks. It also helped with pain issues I was having. The herb formula has to be put together for YOU individually. That is how TCM works. They are not exactly blanket txs that are symptom based.
Cendrine, sounds like you have found a program that is helping you alot. That is great to hear! :)

thanks for the info, what is TCM Elsie? I have been looking for a good natural path in the area but have come up empty.
Cendrine, what is the program called that you are using?
I really hate the thought of using an antidepressant, the SE always scare me. My son is in med school and doing his psych rotation at the present time and thinks the welbutrin will help. The problem is they are hard to wean off once started, I am hoping that once my hormones stabilize I won't need it anymore.
I went to another great yoga class today, took my dog for walk, and am going to do AG tonight.
