Exerciers with physical health challenges new check in

Thank you Cendrine and Katie. :) Katie, I do not know what it is about men of a certain age and not taking medicine for their brain/mental health. They'll take cholesterol meds but not anti-depressants. I suppose their generations had to be of the 'pull your boot straps up' motto, especially for the 'resilient man'. I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad's falls. Yes, it is a great worry. We've went through it with my FIL. He could definitely afford medi-alert type of services, but was too stubborn! erghh.

I've been continuing with my walks this early week and practicing my one leg sit n' slide with a plate. lol. That is a tough one, but I know it benefits my legs especially post-walk. I've had DOMS for 3 days now since the Bicep Burn sets. Whoa. I guess I am needing a lot more work on my upper body!!
Best of luck with your classes Cendrine. Take it easy & give yourself a treat. :)

Today was super cuts. I must have not done that one much because it felt very new, but I liked it!

Elsie, I sometimes get DOMS when I don't expect it and other times I am sure I'm going to have some and turns out nothing...

Any one legged Cathe exercise is worth doing.... Lol!

Exactly!! Cholesterol meds are so unnecessary most of the time, I have tried to get my dad to stop taking these but cannot convince him. The doctors around here hand out chol med like it is candy, but they never recommend anti depressants.
I cannot get my dad to get a medi-alert service either, he thinks he doesn't need it since he has a cell phone. I think the only way to get him to use it is if I pay for it.
I have DOMS from my STS leg w/o, I really hate leg DOMS!! The second day is always the worst!! I did STS 8, tri and back yesterday, along with the 100 RC for triceps. Today will be a rest day so I can clean my house.

Hey,
great work on those workouts you two! :) Yes, Katie leg DOMS (and maybe shoulder) are the toughest for me to manage. It makes doing things so much slower. lol. Like walking down the stairs!! haaha. I also agree with you that often cholesterol meds can be given too soon. But I also feel some dr's (not all of course) can tell which patients are going to cut down on salt, eat fibre etc and which ones won't. There definitely needs to be more community education around chronic disease management and prevention. I've tried to convince my parents to cut back on processed fats etc., eat less salt and so on, but they just don't follow through.

Today, I worked the chest and tri's with bands and weighted gloves (2 sets) and did a FitnessBlender leg and core workout which was WAY tougher than it looked. All bodyweight but so tough. Went on a moderate pace walk this evening.

Another DOMS sufferer today. Super cuts did me in, you guys! I am hurting all over even the oblique work managed to make my lower side back muscles ache...

Not much time today, so have a feral day!

I haven't done "true" step w/o's because of my knees in at least 6 mo., today I decided to try LIS-LIC and only used a 6" step. I forgot how much I enjoy step!! It took me so long to learn this w/o when I first received it, but I only had to rewind a few parts. I am hoping I can start doing more of these LI step w/o's.
Yesterday I did some work around the house and did some exterior painting, it was so good to feel productive.

Feeling quite run down & spent, so yesterday was an unplanned rest day. Tonight, I hope to get to a pilates apparatus class if I'm not too tired again.

That's excellent Katie. :)There's really no better feeling than feeling up, functional and energized when things have not been going all that great for some time!!

Ooh, Cendrine!!! You know, I love stretching that area though ....the lower back obliques that goes down to the iliac crest. It feels so, so good!! Stretch yourself and those DOMS out. ;)

I did LIS-LIC again today so I could get the choreography a little better. I didn't need to rewind at all today, that is a first! The choreography in this dvd was quite a challenge in the past, I was pleasantly surprised how much easier it was this time around.
I did a grokker yoga as well by christie evans, the perfect stretch after cardio. I am pleased with what I have seen on this website so far, I am hoping to try more of their yoga soon.

Had a pretty rotten weekend, feeling terrible, no sleep at all, migraines. Uggh. Anyway, hoping to feel a bit better this week.
Hope your weekend was nicer folks! lol. :)

Excellent job on all that footwork Katie! Yes, you must feel accomplished. Awesome. :D

Hey everyone .....hope you are all having a nice week so far! :) I do hope I didn't drive you all away with my complaining. Just having some concurrent challenges physically & in life generally. Nothing I cannot work through though.

I am continuing with my walking and stretching routines. Mostly moderate walks with some speedy ones! I love walking! Can't wait to get back into other training!! :) edited to add: Wait a minute! My arms and back are a little sore today cause yesterday as I was lifting groceries (and heavy epsom salts) while walking home yesterday which is a lot of uphill, I managed to get in some grocery bag hammer curls! LOL. So, I have done a little.

Hear from you later, then!!

Hi Elsie, it has been a busy week for me, don't worry about "complaining", this forum is supposed to be about physical health challenges we all have. I know at 53 I am dealing with stress, arthritis, menopause etc...this forum gives me a chance to tell you my issues, and know you will understand since you love to w/o also. So many of my friends do not w/o and cannot understand why I continue to do so. I also love coming here to get new info re: diet, new w/o's etc..
I took a yoga class yesterday, we did a lot of fun arm balances, our peak pose was firefly, very challenging. Today will be STS 11, I am taking a AG class this evening. I haven't been going to the AG studio lately since I have my own hammock, the woman who teaches tonight is very inventive, and makes it very challenging so I am looking forward to it.

Have a great day everyone!

Sorry, everyone, I was really busy and distracted this week. Elsie, like Katie said, this place is so we can talk about our issues and have people who understand. I hope you feel better today!

My lats and rear delts on my left have decided to spasm up, probably because I was pushing the upper body weights and now my left arm hurts as a result. So off the upper body workouts and lots of stretching and foam rolling for now. Setbacks are getting more frequent here, and it's annoying .... I think I better lighten up on weights, seems like my body isn't handling it well, hopefully only temporarily.

Workout was treadmill and sts strength legs minus the plyo work all week.

Katie, I know what you mean about forgetting how much you like step. Every time I take a step break and then come back to it I feel the same way!

I appreciate the encouragement ladies. Thanks. Even though I am all grown up now (well kind of) ;), my being reared in a not allowed to complain about anything environment still comes through sometimes. lol.
I like reading about all your workouts and am hoping to get back into it soon. Good job on STS Cendrine & Katie!! That's awesome. Katie, you got into Firefly? Good for you girl! That is surely not easy!!!
I am having some impingement issues in my right arm and a couple of places in my neck. I think I know what the source of the issues is though, so it can be remedied to an extent. I have also been letting myself get discouraged and a bit down on myself with some other things going on in life.

Today, I thought Id try a low impact workout.
Completed some scapular and deltoid med and heavy band work, then tried a Jenny Ford low impact marching workout that was fun and not complicated enough for me to get, did a 25 min Qinetic Live chair-barre type of workout, a short ab section and practiced my deadlifts for a bit.
Impingement is still bothering me though so still not much in terms of upper body weighted work.

How is everyones weekend going so far? I am making a pizza and then we will go out to look at the lunar eclipse (hopefully) and watch some Downton Abbey later. :)

Hi everyone,
I have been in Pgh (my hometown) for the past 4 days for a family wedding. We had a blast!! My entire family was able to come in for the wedding so it ended up being a family reunion as well. Way too much eating and drinking, I really need to get back on the fitness path this week.
This will be my weight "rest week" from STS. I will do my yoga tomorrow and then probably barre w/o, LI, and AG the remainder of the week.
Elsie, Have you had a massage therapist work on the area where the impingement is? When my carpal tunnel and golfers elbow presented themselves it was from a shoulder impingement, the massage was very helpful. I hope you get some relief soon!
Also, when I stated we did firefly as our "peak pose"in yoga, I should have stated that I tried, but fell on my butt, lol! There was a time when I could do that pose, not so much anymore.
I was unable to see the lunar eclipse due to heavy cloud coverage, but saw some amazing pictures of it. Did either of you get to see it?

Oh, that sounds like a whole lot of fun Katie!!
Youre right, I do really need to get to a massage therapist. You see, I usually go to my acupuncturist for all of this stuff, but she moved a couple of months ago and well, I do not like the process of finding someone new to have to explain everything to again. lol. Ive went through a few massage therapists etc. before finding her (she was amazing!!) and they were not all that great if Im honest. I guess I am just feeling too tired to go through all that again. I remember one massage therapist I went to just wanted to do one part of the back at each session. Why would I do that? I thought. I did see a physical therapist a couple of weeks ago and they confirmed what I knew was happening back there. lol. Thats why I am have been concentrating a lot on stability work.
Anyway, I am trying out the Gaim TV 99 cent one-month trial right now. Theres not much in terms of intermediate+ workouts, but there do seem be a good choice of yoga or yoga-like routines on there for back or mobility issues, so that ll be great I hope!

Be back later to post my workout & read your check-ins as well. :)
Take care.

I decided not to do yoga today, I was sort of in the mood to do cardio so I did afterburn. It was much easier after a 4 day rest, lol. I then did the core section from muscle max, I cannot remember the last time I did that w/o.
I hope you guys are having a good day.

We didn't stay up for the eclipse, we had a tiring day at coop and dd was coming down with a runny nose, so we chose sleep...

Elsie, looks like we are both taking it easy in the upper body weights till further notice. I just did treadmill and sts strength legs again, minus the plyo parts.

Katie, had to laugh about your firefly comment...

I usuallly have to work with what I am in the mood for too Katie. As long as everything is balanced on a biweekly schedule. lol. Thats how I roll.
Great work on sts legs Cendrine. My bum really likes trisets from sts2!

Today, I tried Leslie Sansone 2 mile Walk which was okay. Not a huge fan of the music & its too easy I think. Better than no sweat though.
Then I did the strength-shoulder segment from Cathe Timesaver and as many reps as I could of single arm tricep extensions with a band.
Cendrine, I am hoping after Xmas when some sales are on, I can get myself a football bar to help with these mobility issues. They are quite costly, but I have used one before and its much better than a straight barbell. Still looking on Craigslist of course!
