Barack Obama is President of the United States of America

Is anyone else worried about Obama's safety? I know he's going to have secret service people, but there are some crazy people in this world.

I am, but I didn't even want to mention it (somehow it makes the possibility more real).

But there are some nut jobs out there (the kind with guns, or who might wear pointy white hoods on weekends, or have a swastika tatoo somewhere on them--none of whom voted Democratic).

Kathryn, please don't think the only people that vote republican are the people you just described!

The boys in Washington already pardoned themselves. They wrote it into the fine print of one of their bills - they specifically wrote in a clause that indicates they can never be tried for war crimes (interesting forethought).

Re: health care - we rank 21 on the scale for infant mortality. In other words, 21 countries are better than us.

Re: taxes - they suck, but so do crappy schools, crumbling roads, collapsing bridges, etc. We can always take away Medicare and Social Security (also known as socialized medicine and retirement)

This Jew is not the least bit frightened, either.

I was hoping the fear-mongering, and propoganda was subside for at least a day, but my expectations were too high.

I for one feel this is one of the most amazing moments in our history and I am proud and priviledged to have been a witness to it and a participant (I even gave - significantly less than $10,000 and I got no dinner).

It would be nice to collectively revel in this moment - at least for a moment. (sigh)

I don't think that, nor did I say that.

(I don't know how to copy a post into my message yet)

Just choose "quote" at the bottom right of the message (and on long messages, go in and manually cut out the parts you don't want to quote, making sure not to touch the 'quote' labels or the brackets that surround them).

Well said! This is an amazing moment. We are all in this together.

I agree but I don't think this is what Kathryn meant.

That being said, it is really sad that people are still put in drawers.

Democrats are not unpatriotic, without values, infant-murdering, terrorist-sympathizing communists, neither are Republicans gun-tottin', racist, gay hating, zealous bigots. I think first and foremost we are all human, we are all Americans who love this country and want to make a better live for us and our loved ones.

Unfortunately there are fringe groups on either side and those are the ones who make the news.

I just wanted to do a quiet little happy dance while the hubby isn't looking.

(DH voted for McCain and I voted for Obama but I keep it on the down-low.)

Whoa, I don't like the President-elect's politics, but never, never would I want any harm to come to him. Instead, prayers for him to lead us.

Oh! Way way back in the early 60's my mom, a pretty blonde former model raced to the airport to meet RFK - he made a bee-line over to her, and shook my hand (I was about 18 months old) and contrary to his wolf image, he told my mom, "Have I got a good looking boy for her!" (meaning RFK JR.), and said he hoped he could count on my mom's vote...so that was one............then, Nelson Rockefeller used to fly out of Albany and my grandpa would take me to see the planes on weekends...and Rocky took a fancy to my macho Italian grandpa showing up with a little blond girl every week, and took time to learn my grandfather's name and would yell, "hey Mike," when he'd be taking off in his jet..........OH!!!!!!! I took Christie Whitman's blood pressure when she was in the hospital and I was moonlighting...she would've been the right VP pick for McCain....
Barack was at our local airport in Newport News and my neighbor got a picture with him (he works there)....and he's going to use photoshop to morph me into the picture to make it look like I met him......does that count????
AND I had a papal audience with JohnPaul II when I was a student in Rome..he came out to hear a little kid choir and my pal and I were just sitting on the steps and he came over and gave us a cross-blessing and said "Que Bella!"..........
So, I'm kind of the Forrest Gump of meeting politicians and Popes!

Run Forrest Run!

Sorry but I'm not happy with Obama being President of USA. He was voted in on 'hope' and because of the hatred towards Bush, to the most powerful country( Bush doesn't get the credit he deserves on a lot of issues & things he's had to deal with).
He was not voted in on his accomplishments or his record. What he says and what his record shows are two totally different things. But somehow we 'hope' he will do different than what he's done in his career.

He does not have a presidental resume at all.

Sorry- but I am not as optimistic as some.
I just want my country back - I am scared that my children will not know what a capitalist socitey and economy is. Unfortunately, the american people spoke and socialism is the direction they voluntarily invited into thier lives.

Thanks for letting me vent :)
God Bless our country, our leaders, and our people!

Girl, when he went up on that stage in Chicago I was so stricken with fear that I immediately started scanning the crowd for Secret Service and thinking how easy it would be for a (suicidal) sharp-shooting Klan/Aryan Nation/lunatic type to pick him off. I've gone from praying for him to be our president to praying for his safety. Yea, I'm terrified but hoping God hears all our voices. I've seen the power of prayer en masse and I believe strongly that God is impressed when we join together for someone else's benefit.

You know, right now I'm watching CNN and Condelezza Rice is choking back tears about what Obama's win means... Followed by George Bush's sincere congratulations. And the reporter is saying the current Republican White House aides are all talking about how impressed they were with the Obama-inspired crowds outside The White House last night. They were all amazed and congratulatory. Everything runs in cycles and right now it's just our turn. Where else in the world do you see a peaceful exchange of power like The United States of America? Sometimes, when campaigns are brutal you forget how much of that is just political theater. In the end, though, all any of us wants is for our country to find it's way again and be respected in the world the way we used to be. There was plenty of blame to go around but we need to move forward now. I just hope the Democratic Congress doesn't get in his way. From the sound of it, certain Democratic representatives already have their backs up... Geeze Louise.
