activity and calorie level????

Hi, Cathe and everybody! :) I am a very petite 4'8" gal at 31 years old. I discovered these workouts after having my kids and am pretty much back at my pre-baby weight now. I work out 30 to 60 minutes each day (one day I usually do lighter step or yoga, the rest stuff like Kick Max, XTrain, or DVDs from others like P90X, Insanity, etc.). Other than that I am a stay at home mom who works from home, so not a lot of activity. What should I set for the activity level in my settings on the Workout Manager? Also, when I enter my stats, my TDEE seems high to me. I've used other calculators that put it around 1500, but here, it's over 1800 if I set my activity as moderate. For the past few months I have been on a diet of 1200 a day (cycled) but I'm a little concerned I'm not getting enough. I would like to just loose 3 or 4 more pounds (I am 91 now) just so my clothes fit a little better. I have actually gained a few pounds since starting XTrain, although I'm aware some of that could be retained water, and just the plain old time of the month. Advice, please, and thank you!

I use Livestrong to track my eating and exercise. My activity level is sedentary since I sit in front of a computer all day. You need to list your activity level as to what you do most of the day without counting the time you work out.

I hope this makes sense.

I'm confused, weener. The settings for Cathe's site/workout manager include an activity level, and in that, they include exercise and sports. You can still have a desk job and be considered active if you are doing a lot of physical activity at home or with others for fun or your health, yes? I know a gal who sits most of the work day and then trains for marathons, lol. I doubt she'd be considered sedentary.

I'm not familiar with Cathe's site - just Livestrong. Here are their suggestion and why I picked Sedentary:

Sedentary

Select if you work in an office or at home and sit most of the day. Even if you exercise a few times a week, you should track that information on separately on MyPlate. Note: We find that most members have an activity level of sedentary or light.

Light Activity

Select if you are on your feet throughout the day, at home or at work. Note: We find that most members have an activity level of sedentary or light.

Moderate Activity

Select if you are very active daily (eg, walk all day, wait tables or clean for 6+ hours).

Very Active

Select if your job is labor intensive or if your daily routine consists of heavy lifting and constant movement.

I hope this helps :)

I am a personal trainer

I know you are very short; however, 1200 calories seems to be very low. I think, and it is only my opinion, that 1500 would be better. I am only 5'1" and I work out an hour or two a day, and I am hungry all the time. I do not count calories, as long as I can fit into my size 1 jeans.

This is getting off topic a bit, but CDPotier, I find it interesting that you say you are hungry all the time, because I generally am too. I am tall at 5'9", workout 45 to 90 minutes per day (depending how I feel) and find that I am hungry all the time too. I am seriously limiting my calories because I am determined to lose that weight, but even so there are many who say we should not be hungry! But I tell you that if I don't seriously limit my calories and learn to live with hunger I will not and have not lost the weight!

Hi ladies, I'm eat like a lot of broccoli, coliflower, spinach or cabbage they are low calories and make me full longer.Hope help

I have always had a major sweet tooth. Last year I made a decision that I wanted to cut out all sugar (except low sugar fruits and a little bit of stevia) from my diet for just a month. It was sooooo hard. I felt like I was starving all the time. After 3 weeks the feeling went away! And now I just never seem to be hungry :) Not saying this is what is going on with you, but just wanted to share my experience.

I also limit how much gluten and dairy I eat too. So not sure if that has any relevance.

Me too!

Just wanted to echo that hungry feeling, too!
I lost 20 lbs 2 yrs ago by gradually adjusting my calorie intake to 1200-1300/day. (I'm 5'2", and currently 120lbs). Eventually I stopped being totally ravenous, but I am always hungry to some degree.

That is the ONLY way that I found I am able to keep the weight off. Eating more than that, no matter what it is, I start packing pounds back on.

So I have learned to accept that I will just spend the rest of my life hungry, if I want to stay at this weight. It's depressing. But it's reality.

For me, it all depends on exercise - if I'm doing STS meso#2, or metabolic weight training, I'm RAVENOUS. More cardio, less hungry.
I try to feel full by eating fiber - lots and lots (I add bran to things).

I am always hungry too! I am 5' 8" and at 158 with a goal of losing 18 more pounds. I write down everything I eat and try to keep it at about 1200 to 1500 calories a day and exercis at least 60 minutes. The weight is very slow to come off! I thought that maybe it was because I was type II diabetic. I eat very little carbohydrates, eating mostly chicken and veggies. I do have the occasional snack of almonds, etc. It is a battle, but I am determined to win it!
