What is your dream job?

aloxx

Cathlete
Every few years, I start to feel like I need a complete change in what I do for a living...I'm, once again, getting that feeling after about 7 years in the public school system. I think my dream job is to be a novelist. I'd love to be able to weave fabulous tales and then actually sell them. Too bad I can't even make up a short bed time story for my girls! :)

Anyway, I was just wondering about what other people have for "dream jobs". Maybe I'll find another dream job from some of yours!

I would love to be a military historian at the Army Carlisle Barracks in PA.

I know....weird

I would like to design smilies. I'm serious. I love them and what in the world could be more fun than sitting at a desk creating smilies to make people laugh!?

Hi Michele! Thanks for the CC info on the other thread, and glad to hear your DH is trying them!

Re: your dream job and funny smilies...that is a hilarious one that you have there! Love it. Sometimes I feel like that...hey, at least maybe the work is negating some of the effects of the ice cream!

My dream job is the one I have: Forensic Artist :) I've had other jobs, I was in the Navy, then did administrative work to pay the bills (hated that beyond belief!) then a graphic artist, then got into forensics. It took 40 years, but I found my life's work.

Wow, Govtgirl--how cool to have your dream job.

I really enjoy my current gig (Mom) although it was never my dream job (apologies to my kids for that). I would love to be a novelist, but failing that I wish I could make a living by blogging (which I currently do just for fun). I am better at writing little snippets than planning a novel, I have to admit.

Wow. How depressing is it that I have NO IDEA what my dream job is. ?????

Yep, that's right. I have no clue.

I'm gonna go sulk now....

Allison, you are still young. Don't sweat it...you have time to come up with a dream job.

I don't really know what my dream job would be, but I just love doing research, either online or in the library. I did some of those career aptitude tests in grad school, and they always said that I should be a librarian or college professor. (But I don't like writing the papers, just doing the research.) It's almost like a treasure hunt.

I would love to own a bookstore because I love reading. Also, being a writer would be wonderful! When I was younger I wrote 3 books but they never got published :(.

I am with you Allison.
I think I just settled into my job and didn't put much thought into another one.
But wouldn't it be fun to have Cathe's job. Not that I am proposing that I could ever fill her shoes but to be that dedicated and driven. I would love to be able to motivate people in all walks of life. That would be great!:)

My dream job? A dancer, like a ballerina, with the body to go with it. :) Or have the guts to be a stand up comedian or an actor...

Great thread!!

I have my dream job already!! :D:D Before I went to work for this insurance company, I spent 18 years working in ICU's. I worked 12 hour nights, 8 hour nights, and 8 hour afternoon shifts. I worked every weekend, and almost every holiday. I missed so much of Nicole's childhood that I barely remember it. She will bring up things from it and I can't even recall what she's talking about. Nursing has its emotional rewards, but they're overshadowed by the long hard hours and the lack of sleep from working all night when you've already been up all day.

I've worked for this company now for four years, and I thank God every day I have this job. I started out looking over medical records for the claims adjusters in Cleveland Ohio. I was responsible for all of NE Ohio. It was an awesome job and I loved it!! 8:30 to 5:00 ... I could dress up and get my nails done, I had a company car, and best of all I could finally be there for my family!!! :D:D Then I shifted gears a bit and learned the medical coding aspect of the medical bills, and was responsible for the coding issues on first party auto bills for the entire Zone - OH, KY and TN. There was also a large teaching aspect with both these positions. When I was given the second position, we moved here. I obtained my Certified Coding Professinal designation - company paid. Moving here has turned out to be very good for all three of us, especially Nicole. The education system here, while not perfect by any means, is far better than the situation was in Ohio. Last year, I became a claims adjuster myself, where I'm part of a team that handles third party homeowner claims for KY and TN. We also handle other third party claims against policies such as business, apartment, rental, condo unit, etc. 35 different policies in all. It's a fantastic job, and I still get to use my nursing skills as more than half these claims involve injuries. I'm also learning all kinds of other things like the legal system in KY and TN, and how to handle all different types of property damage situations. I have a terrific team manager and helpful, supportive co-workers. I'm truly blessed to have found this opportunity four years ago. I wouldn't trade this job for any other out there.

I love my job (most days;)). I am a first grade teacher, now in my 12th year. No two days are the same, I get to move around (and sometimes even exercise with them), they make me laugh, it's great to see their growth over the school year, it's super challenging (yet fun), there is always something new to learn, I love having kids as my "clients" so to speak (rather than dealing with adults all day). The hours are great (summers off, 8:00-3:45p.m. during school year-yes, I do a lot of work at home in addition:)-, holidays and weekends off, lots of sick time and personal days), great insurance and other benefits like free tution for graduate school, pension plan (who gets that anymore?) and I can enjoy my family too.

My other job is selling Silpada jewelry. I do it minimally, but I get free jewelry, great "fun money" and when I go and do a show, it's more like fun than work.

I love reading about other people's dream jobs! I came to the conclusion a few years back that although I do like my job, the fact is that I don't think I can stay with any job for 40 years of working. So, hopefully, I'll find a few dream jobs along the way!

Jane/Lioness - maybe you should try again at those novels...if you've written three already, I'm sure you probably have more stories swirling around in your mind wanting to come out! I'd be so proud if I could just get one written...published or not!

Well, I guess I have my real-life dream job already. I teach fifth grade in a small rural school where I feel I am needed and appreciated. It's a good feeling. Of course there are things I would change, but overall, I think this is about as good as it gets.

My fantasy dream job is movie monster maker. I think it would be so much fun to make those gigantic, gory movie creatures with teeth in places no terrestrial creature has teeth and slime dripping from disgusting orifices that don't even exist on earth-born creatures. I'd love using my imagination to think them up and my hands to build them. What a hoot!
