tattoo ???

I'm going to get a tattoo next weekend but still can't seem to put into a tatoo what I want to express. What I'm hoping for is an idea or a concept or some type of symbolism to go with how I feel. One thing that I do know that I will be getting in this tattoo is the japanese symbols for Trust. They are 2 symbols when put together mean this " Trust is having faith in someone or something. It is a positive attitude about life. You are confident that the right thing will happen without trying to control it or make it happen. Even when difficult things happen, trust helps us to find the gift or the lesson in it. My mother in law is Japanease and carefully gave me the two symbols for this. This is my life in general. I trust that God has a bigger plan even when I can't see it.

What I would also like in someway is a (Something) to represent my love for yoga and for the love of my kids and husband. Any suggestions to go with the symbols would be appreciated. If I can't find somthing to fit I will just get the two symbols. I have racked my brains for months.

What kind of tattoos do you have and what do they mean to you?

i think tattoos are very personal, and i love your idea for the symbols. as for the symbol of your love for your family, like i said, it's very personal. it's completely up to you what is the right mark on your body that will represent your deep love of your family. i have a chain of daisies on my back, which seems so cliche and trendy, but it's deeply personal to me, and that's all that matters.

choose carefully, as they will be with you forever!

I have a small tattoo of a rose on my hip. I got it because;

1. That's my name!!!
2. A Rose itself is full of symbolism and meaning in many different ways...too many to name here.

So, it may seem like a simple tattoo, but for me it holds lots of meaning and sentiment!

:)

I have a tattoo as a small child my nickname was poohbear so I have a tattoo of winnie the pooh holding a balloon. :7 It is on my lower back.

May be your tattoo artist can give you some suggestions. Doesn't He/She have to draw something up for you anyway?

Lori

I was hoping they would give me some sort of suggestion but you never know if they really understand what it is that I want to say when I don't really know. I would love to go on the show Miami Ink and have one done by them.

The other thing I was thinking of getting below the symbols is the figurine with the mother holding the two chilren. It's kind of one black figure who's arms are engulfed in two smaller figures. I would want three. Do you know the figure I'm talking about. I actually have the figure. Maybe I could take the figure with me.

Thanks for your feedback. My dh has three tatoos. One written in Japanese that says family 4 K. Meaning me and our three girls. All our names begin with K. Then he has a samauri and an arm band with eyes watching over it.

Get something very personal. That way you will love it all your life.

I'm also getting one. Before my mother became too very sick with Alzheimer's, she use to kiss me on my shoulder. My sister that is taking care of mom now, is going to get my mother's lips impressed on some paper and will send it to me. I then will get a tattoo of this on my shoulder. She's my very best friend.

The idea is to die young as late as possible

Don't have a suggestion...but I have been thinking of getting one like this for about a year

I like the fish symbol one with diff. scripture etc. I wonder if I am actually going to go through with it ! I just wish I knew how to find a good artist. This is a big thing for me at my "old" age and I don't want any crap! Just don't know many people to get references from...

Why don't you just get the symbols for now and the rest when you are truly ready?
I'd never considered a tat before, but my brother, who's been an artist his whole life, recently became tat artist. So now I am considering. I think a tree frog or gecko on my back hip, maybe crawling out of my underwear. I like critters.

Hi Karen.

I have 3 tattoos. The third one I actually just got a couple of weeks ago. None of them are significant. I just thought they were pretty, cool, etc. LOL I am very happy with all of them despite their lack of "significance". I don't regret them at all.:)

I was originally looking to get one having to do with my son when I got my 3d but I found fault in my idea that I couldn't live with. I was going to get an angel across my lower back. It was going to be the angel's upper body, arms and head and her wings were going to span out across my back. In the original picture she is holding a rose but I was going to replace that rose with a baby. I envisioned her as a guardian angel...my son's guardian angel to be exact. It was going to be my way of being sure that someone would always be watching over him. :) I was going to have his name tattooed in one wing and his birthdate tattooed in the other. I thought it was a fantastic idea until I realized....Oh my goodness, what if someone sees this and thinks he has died!?!? Once I thought of that I just couldn't do it. I couldn't live with that on my body if there were ANY chance people were going to think I had lost my child. It was a thought I couldn't bear. I couldn't come up with any other idea that I loved where DS was included so I tucked the idea away for now. In the future I may have another idea that inspires me the way that one did...

Anyway, I love your ideas and yes, definatly bring that figurine with you!!! I think I know what you are talking about and think it's a great idea!

Wedny, I see what your mean. Some would think that was a memorial tattoo. I was also thinking on the same order with my girls. I was going to get a small ankle band with the flowers of each of their birth months and then the two flowers of my and my dh's birth month. I could also get a vine of the same things somewhere.

Getting stronger. I like the fish. My dh was thinking of getting a koi but the samauri was his thing. He and I also kicked around the idea of getting a symbol in Japanese for love. There is a kanji symbol for love but according to his mom who is Japanese they have no script for love. It is only the work like. They don't really say love over there. I did find a symbol for love and affection and it says Japanese symbol but I will run it by his mom. It means love between and man and a women. Our 11th anniversary just past so that is why we were thinking of getting those. I was just going to add them under the two symbols for trust.

I'm getting the script down my back. I was going to get them under my hair on my neck but now I'm going to start lower so you can see them if my hair isn't up.

I love your tattoo ideas - and you should definitely bring the figure with you - or at the very least, take a photo of it. I have three tattoos myself. I have a shamrock on my ankle, a celtic knot design on my arm and a claddagh on the inside of my wrist . . . yep, I'm Irish alright! I chose them very carefully and also put a lot of thought into where I put them. I didn't want gravity to alter them in any way!

Good luck with the process and enjoy the results.

Hi Mo :)
So..have you decided what to get yet? I started getting tatted up a few years ago. My brother was apprenticing to become a tattoo artist so i let him slap a tattoo on me. Its a dragon in black on my inner left leg (lower side). It has zero signinficance, i just thought it looked neat. Some days I wish I didnt have it, other days I forget its there.

Later on i got my whole upper left arm tattooed. It doesnt reach fully around the back of the arm, but almost. I love it. Its an angel and it has a background. It has signifcance to me, but when peopel see it , they become nosy. It sticks out a little under my uniform at work and people notice - some even pull up my sleeve, which i think is downright rude lol. But i guess they are just curious. Whatever you get , do it because u want it. It will be with you for life, but also you will get used to seeing it. I got married in May and people were asking "You are going to cover up your tattoo arent you?" I had a strapless, sleeveless gown. I siad no - its a part of me, i'm not ashamed and it looks beautiful. SO what if someone else doesnt like it :) Besides, its too big to cover up, even if i wanted to.

I say bring in your statue anad also the meaning of what you are getting and tell him your ideas about family. The artists are usually very creative and can help you come up with something great. MAke sure you visit the shop first and get a good feeling about it - cleanliness etc..and also be sure to look at their portfolios. Good luck!

My husband picked out my tat for me...a baby bobcat. He said it fits my personality so that is my only suggestion for you. I like the idea of the "trust". Remember you will have to explain the tat to your grandkids someday.

Some tattoo place will allow you to bring in a drawing of the tat that you want.So do you know any artists?

Any good shop will definately draw something up for you weather it's from scratch out of an idea in your head or from something you actually bring them. :)

You can also go to a shop or go online and look at flash. You may get ideas that can help you to create exactly what you are looking for. You can take bits and pieces of different tats and put them together to create the look you want. The possibilities are endless and part of the tattoo artists' job is to help you with that if you need it so don't be afraid to ask!

I'm trying to edit my avatar to include my tattoo. It's on my right forearm. The kanji sumbols mean "crisis". The swirl was taken from another tattoo I saw on another breast cancer survivior. I added the kanji to tailor the tat to me, as it is bad form, and bad luck, to completely copy someone else's tat. The pink, is of course, the traditional color symbol for BC.

About 10 or 15 years ago the Breat Cancer Fund decided to put the swirly symbol on a bunch of prayer flags. It is an ancient symbol from Malta of feminine power, as it use to be a matriarchal society. A bunch of BC survors climbed some mountain (not sure where) and flew the flags for all women whose lives have been touched by BC.

IM(very)HO, would say do not get a tat on a whim but really think about what you are putting on your body. I though for years about getting a tattoo but was never sure what to do, but once I saw that symbol I knew.

Plus, radiation already took my tattoo virginity from me (they tattoo dots on you to line you up with the radiation machine), so it was easier to go ahead and get something I wanted and not something I had to have.

Now that is really a beautiful tattoo and meaning to go with it. I'm like you, I have thought and thought about it for along time and I know those symbols mean the world to me. The trust is for many reason including my fear of BC belive it or not. For many reason. BC runs in my family and I'm at high risk. I just had a mammo, ultra, and MRI in the past month for a lump which in turn was dense tissue. My mom, aunt and grandmother are surviviors. They want me to get genetic testing as well. They jsut said actually on Monday that if I'm positive for the gene they want me to have a double mastectomy with reconstuction because of my genetics and dense breast tissue. It was a lot to take in being he said at 34 I would lose both breasts and not even have cancer jsut the gene. So the trust symbols mean so much to me. I have to turst there would be more innovations in the future being that if I carry the gene I'm at a 85% risk for sometime in my life. I can't seeing opting for a surgery right now on both breast without cancer. Ok sorry for ranting. Guess what I'm also from MD. We got a lot in common.

That is *a lot* of info for you to take in all at once. But remember although they want you to do this or that, it comes dowon to what you want. To be expected to give up healthy breasts because of a 'maybe' is overwhelming.

I had no "typical" risks - no one in my family, etc. I was overweight and I had never had children, which they say can cause BC, but I have found that nothing makes sense when it somes to who gets cancer - any kind of cancer - and who doesn't.

Also, I had a couple of so-called friends send me links to articles that said that using anti-perspirant/deodorant and wearing underwires bras can cause BC. Can you believe it? Were they trying to be helpful? - LOL

There are constantly new things coming up in BC research. It's really a very treatable cancer. Even it it comes back, you can live a long time with it.

Take a pic of your tat and post what you finally have done, OK?

Susan L.G.

P.S. I keep waiting for someone to tell me my kanji doesn't mean what I think it means and that it really means "I have a totally fat a$$" or something similar - LOL!
