STS first time!

Checking in finally!

This weekend was pretty busy! So much so that it was not only tough to check in, but I ended up not working out on Saturday like I wanted . I rarely take two days off in a row unless I'm on vacation so that made me sort of cranky...plus it's ttotm time so that's happening anyway! ;) The get together on Saturday was okay, but I always get burned out about 3 hours in and have to start nagging Mark to go. Of course, he gets mad that I want to go and then it ends up being a fight every. single. year. :( Sigh.

Sunday I got back into it with Paul Katami's Burn and Build and I even added on a short HC workout (one of the 101 club dvds from Sandra's site...yep I bought even more:eek:) Actually the 101 HC's are nice because they are around 30 minutes so I can tack them onto other workouts if I have lots of time to workout. I've been adding them to my Sunday's since that's my long "luxurious" time to workout! Because of that, I've been able to squeeze in 3 HC's the last few weeks! :)

Meredith- you are doing a great job keeping up despite how busy you've been! Don't be too hard on yourself if you have to skip a workout here and there. Just do the best you can! Life definitely gets in the way sometimes!

I've been actually thinking I want to add the STS leg discs back in to my workouts. I like to get at least one lower body workout in a week and I've been pretty much alternating Trisets lower body, B&G and LBB... but to be honest I'm getting a little burned out on those. I realized I'm having a tough time getting lower body DOMS since STS. The STS leg discs are so awesome I think I'm going to start rotating various ones for my lower body day and put the others aside for a little while. :D

Marie- you look so amazingly cute in those pics!! I love the dancer pose. You are so incredibly graceful, especially for being pregnant! There is no way I would've been able to do that when I was 36 weeks pregnant! lol

Carolyn- apple picking sounds like so much fun! I can't wait to do that soon. Cider in the fall is one of my favorite things. :D I love getting a gallon and letting it simmer in my slow cooker for hours and hours with the cinnamon and spices. It makes the house smell so divine! OMG, that story about the bathroom lock had me totally laughing! That is so something I would do...except I would probably panic and not be able to think of the MacGyver trick! lol

Missy- how did STS with Tim go last night? I can't wait to hear what he thought of it! Especially the push ups!!

Jean- I love that you like Johnny Depp! :p He was my first major crush in high school! ;)

cdimatt- Welcome!! Another Colleen, Yay! :D I always find it's such a bonding moment when I find another Colleen. lol :)

Thanks for the compliments! You are all too sweet :)

Welcome Colleen! STS rules! You are going to love it! My first baby is due Oct 10th so I plan on doing my second round starting sometime in Nov. I never did make it to Meso 3 last time. I found out I was pregnant just before I was about to start it and my dr said to hold off on heavy lifting.

Lazy day for me.....I slept in :) Gotta take advantage of that right now. Been doing random stuff around the house. Just finished some Kashi blueberry cereal with a banana and headed downstairs for some Yoga Relax soon.

I work at 3 today and will be going for my daily walk during my break.

Have a good day everyone!

Marie

Marie, how are you so flexible?? You are in your last month of pregnancy! You are so amazing! And working right up to delivery? You should rethink that--be a little selfish! Aren't you allowed to start maternity leave two weeks before due date? You look awesome--all baby! I wish I had known to take pics and journal my feelings, all that. Didn't know any better. (Four more posts to go.)

Carolyn, loved your weekend stories! Hope your mom felt the love from all her family around her:). I might have freaked in the bathroom stall myself. Good going pulling out your McGyver!:D You are so funny!

That was hysterical to come face-to-face with your brother and his family! And how did you not eat a cider donut?? We always buy a half dozen (half with sugar and half without), and I eat at least 2!. Not to mention the caramel apples I stock up on (my family is so mortified that I buy so many)! I dread going to the orchard on weekends because it is so insanely crowded. Last year we went to our usual place, and for the first time since going there for 7-8 years, as we were leaving, we saw cars lined up for a mile+ leading up to the orchard! Now that my kids are older, we are starting to just drive there and buy the bags of apples.

Do you feel resentful or cranky your kids are home today? Because I certainly do. My son has a religious holiday today and he didn't come down for bkfast till noon. He was up by nine (that's the only good thing, that we can sleep later) and was doing his homework and everything but brush, change, and eat. This is what infuriates me in the summer! All I do is nag him. Eat, drink, clean, homework, walk the neighbor's dog, etc! We have another day off next Wednesday!

Not only that, he caught his first cold. I could set a clock by him. Never fails--catches a cold within the first two weeks of school. His nose is running like a hydrant today.

Did you say new garage and driveway?? I am very excited for you! I have a single standalone garage, and I wish I could bridge it to the house (avoid cold and snow), make it two-car wide, and make a bigger (read: dream) kitchen with mudroom!

Jean, after you mentioned reviews of Fifty Shades, I went to look at the first few at Amazon. I had no idea! Probably wouldn't have stopped me from checking the book out, but the writing just might soon! It is sooo juvenile! So utterly bad. I just got through their first time together and it was hardly exciting. Maybe I should be slapped if I finish the entire book!:D

I'm very bad with pairing actors with characters on books. Have you heard that Tom Cruise is set to play Jack Reacher in the movie version of one of Lee Child's books? Not in a million yrs would I have picked him. Reacher is blond and 6'5". If you haven't you should read this author--his writing is top-notch!

ColleenK, DH should have been grateful you stuck it out for 3 hrs! Sheesh. Men! Nice job with the workouts. Now, whenever I do some Cathe moves that I've seen on HC clips, I focus a little more on all those planks like Sandra does. Man, my muffin top is just so stubborn!

Mer, with all that you've got going on, kudos for continuing STS. Don't be too hard on yourself if you don't get to some of them. Having 2 young kids and all the work that that entails is truly a calorie scorcher too.

I pulled out Boot Camp today. It has been so long that I've forgotten what was coming up.

ColleenD, welcome! You are on a fun journey! Do you do other Cathe workouts? What state are you from? As you can see, we chat with one another about non-workout stuff too. This thread was started late last November and we are still going strong. I just love my cyber friends!

Sorry so long!

Betty (MA)

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I actually got STS last March and did it once. STS was my first Cathe purchase and I was hooked after the first disk! Since then I have collected more than I would like to admit (probably around 50 or so including the low impact series, cross fire, TTM and XTrain preorder). I just love her workouts.

I'm from PA and have two kids ages 4 (son) and 7 (daughter) a husband and dog. I also work full time, so I get up at 5AM to do my workouts. I started home workouts (The FIRM) after having my daughter in 2004. I did those till getting pregnant with my son (I walked every day and did yoga during my pregnancy with him). After having him I tried various workout and did mainly yoga and walking/running and doing weights on my own. The FIRM was not cutting it for me anymore and I had always heard about Cathe, but was too intimidated to try, but finally caved then and never looked back!

My fitness is so important to me and not many people can relate to my love of working out and Cathe. My Husband is my biggest supporter and totally supports my craziness when it comes to working out. So I thought I'd give the forums a try....

Wow, another Colleen! Growing up I never knew another Colleen, Now I know 3!

Marie - congrats on your first baby! What an exciting time!

Betty and Carolyn, my daughter is fighting her first cold of the season as well. I sent her to school today with the runny nose and a slight cough. My poor baby. :-(

Good Evening Friends!!!

Today was a monday from hell at work! First thing, 7 am my cell phone rings, One of my nirses called in. Then I go to work and had to work at the front desk till 10. One of the receptionist had to go to grandparents day at school. Okay, but all of the "trouble" patients were calling like it was a full moon or something!!! Crazy!!!!

So, anyways..... :D

Carolyn---I am so glad you are having nice weather. It has started to break here. I think mid 80's this week. Normally, the weather slowly but surely changes here. But normally Octoberish it is nice!!! How is your knee/leg doing? Do you think you still need the MRI? If so, you better call them and light a fire under someones butt!! It has been almost a week.

I am jelous of apple picking. We do not have that here. We have peaches!!!!

Marie---You look so beautiful!!! Enjoy these last few weeks and takes tons of pictures!!!

Welcome Colleen! I am 29 years old, married, have 1 indoor dog, 2 indoor cats, 1 outside cat, and 2 horses. I live in South Georgia. I am an office manager of a 2 physician internal medicine practice!!! I too do not have "any" fitness friends locally. But my forum friends are the best. We all keep each other motivated. It is nice to chat with people with the same interest. You will fit is just fine with us. My husband thinks I am nuts about my exercise. But he supports me 150%.

By the way girls....Cathe intimadated Tim. He gave up on me 30 minutes into Disc 1 (I think it was all those pushups) hehehe :p. So, I am back to working out alone. Oh well....I like it that way. He can't hang with me. He is a sissy!!! heheheh

As for all the back to school germs, they are aweful!!! The kids bring it home, then give it to the adults and then they try and bring it to "us" Dr office workers. Thats why I like to stay in my office away from the people!!! hehehe :)

Okay, gotta go workout!!!! Be back!

Welcome Colleen!
I too started with The Firm!
I live in NH with my hubby, a son almost 11 and daughter 8. We have two dogs who love to take off on me!
I am a stay at home mom. I give you LOADS of credit to get up so early and w/o.
Glad you decided to join us. This forum is the best.
Carolyn

Thanks Carolyn. I am excited to be here. Getting up early is really hard some days. But it is my stress reliever and the only "me" time I get. I always look forward to my weekend workouts. I usually am able to eat breakfast and drink some coffee before my workout.

Here I am at work. I'm on the CD unit tonight. Patients are in group so I'm taking a break :) I have an admit that should be here anytime though...hopefully she takes her time ;)

Not feeling too well today. I have been nauseous and gagging at certain smells alot. I feel like I'm back in my 1st tri. I have my 37 week appt tomorrow so I'm going to ask about that.

Yoga relax went well....with modifications due to my belly haha! Went for my walk on my dinner break...nice fall weather! I just love it!

Carolyn- Sorry your kids are sick :( Both my nieces are too.

Betty- 4 more posts...yay! I'm such a dork but I was all excited when I got my Cathlete status. I could take off time before but then I would have that much less time with Breckin so I'm going to pound it out and work. I am planning on calling in "sick" next Thurs..shame on me. I have Fri the 28th off and so does Tony---it's the only day we have off together before the baby comes. I'm calling in that Thurs so we can do a quick get away to a hotel or something :) Excited!

Missy- Thanks for the compliments :) Sorry but I had to laugh at Tim's experience with Cathe. He is not alone. I forced Tony do to AT with me one time and he took so many breaks and then ended up just giving up. I told him to just keep moving even if he wasn't doing the Cathe moves but he would just stand there and pant. This is why I work out alone too.

Jean- Thanks for the compliment :) Glad you gave the movie a 4 out of 5. I just loved it.

ColleenD- Cathe is just the best isn't she?! Glad you are joining our thread. Little about me..... I live in MN with my husband and of course as you know- soon-to-be baby boy :) I'm a registered nurse and float between the Geriatric Mental Health and Chemical Dependency units.

I'm Back!!! Just laying in bed with the laptop!!! hehehe :) I'm a dork too!!!

Jean---I hope you are not getting sick, lets hope it the beast kicking your butt!!! I love DOMS, so maybe that is it since your biceps are sore. Rest and relaxation will fix it!!!

Marie---I would call in too if it was the only time to spend with the hubby!!! Enjoy your time!! When we did CSS, Tim did pretty well, except he is not cordinated...he kept saying this is for girls...this is girly...this is not for MEN....so I replyed, if it is for girls, why are you out of breath and just standing there? This time he said, I am just going to stick with cardio (treadmill) OKAY!!!! I will see how long that is. He does not like to workout...he thinks because he is on his feet all day he does not need to!!! hehehe

I guess I am a fitness nut/nerd....I just love to exercise! Somedays are harder than others to get moving but once I do...it's on!!!!!

Okay, the hubby wants to watch some tv...guess I better go!

Chat tomorrow. Have a nice evening!!!!

Jean, I forgot to say that the book is ridiculously copy-cat similar to Twilight--pale, clumsy, not very confident Converse-wearing girl, locale in NW US, mother who has remarried. Perfect, filthy rich, young guy who falls head over heels for her. I mean, really?

You must get into fiction. So many great books out there. Absolutely have to read Harry Potter!

Omg, fresh eggs! That's incredible. We love and eat soooo many eggs, but I always picture the bad quality of life of the chickens, and can't enjoy them. DH doesn't believe in organic, very anti-. It's a huge battle. I can't ever enjoy any of my food because I know tmi.

Carolyn, try meditation or acupuncture? Your insomnia is baffling. Need a holistic treatment.

Going to start my oatmeal now. Sorry, Carolyn. I have cut way back on my dairy, so no milk or Greek yogurt.

Do you also have bus in afternoon? My kids have always been strictly bused. Don't believe in driving them:D.

Ack this thread moves fast! Okay, okay, after I return from girls weekend I will honestly try to carve out some time for a serious catching up and checking in. I did Disk 5 today. The weights felt heavy. I'm a little nervous for Disk 6 tomorrow since I haven't done legs in a long, long time. Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning and Happy Tuesday!!!

This morning was crazy!!! I got up, did 45 minutes on the elliptical, showered, ate breakfast.... okay so it is 7:20---helped my husband get all his stuff to the truck. Feed the outside cat and the sky is clear and bright. Did a few chores inside....got all my stuff together, started turning all the lights off and the house kept getting darker and darker.....It was pitch black outside and lightening like crazy. I just got in my truck and the sky feel. I drove to work doing 30mph with the wipers on full speed, it was crazy!!!! The storm has now passed and it is clear skys again! CRAZY!!!

Those fresh eggs sound delish! I remember growing up we had chickens, and my grandma would always let me gather the fresh eggs!!! So fun when you are a child! :)

Hope everyone is having a nice day....Tonight I think I am doing Day 1 again, so I can do it with 100% good form and no distraction. I was suppose to do disc 2, but I want to do this round of STS and get more definition in my arms and legs. Wish me luck!!!

Okay, I am at work....gotta run!

Have a nice Tuesday!

Okay...so I don't think I told you girls....This past week I have been struggling with swollen boobs and very tender to touch. Also, leg cramps...so I know the monster is coming. I have already pre-warned my husband I think this month is going to be aweful!!! Well, today the monster arrived! Keeping my fingers crossed that this help with my sore boobs!!! I have not been running this past week due to the tenderness. I have been camped out on the elliptical. Can't wait for this to go away in a few days...so I can get back in my routine!!!!

So Carolyn---yours is coming!!!! Maybe we can get out of the funk were in!!! Hormones are the devil!!!!

Today I did Cardio Superset. What a great workout. I usually do the bonus step portion, but I work up late today. :( Boy those pushup in CSS was hard today after disk 1 yesterday!

We always make sure that my daughter takes the bus. It starts a bad trend if we drive her to school.

Betty, I love eggs too. I just started buying Organic eggs. I do all grocery shopping so it doesn’t really phase my husband on organic/vs. non organic. I've recently been getting horrible stomach pains and I have been cutting out milk and Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt has always been my go to snack in the afternoon so it was hard cutting that out. The hardest part has been milk in my coffee in the morning. I tried almond milk yesterday in my coffee (yuck). I poured it out and make another cup with milk. I really need to find an alternative. I did make my oatmeal with 1/2 water and 1/2 almond milk and that was tasty.

Missy, hope you feel better soon.

Jean, Body Beast sounds tough!

Marie, hope you are feeling ok and your appointment went well.

Afternoon ladies! :)

Today I did Trisets Lower Body. There is seriously no workout that is more effective in such a short time!
I even upped the ante a bit this morning. I recently bought a 35 lb kettlebell for swings (got it at Wal-Mart for $49...the quest for stuff never ends!). So I started TBLB with the warm up, paused the dvd and did this little metabolic firestarter before continuing. What you do is a countdown: you start with 15 swings, then do 15 burpees, then 14/14, 13/13, 12/12 on down to 1/1. You do it as quickly as you can, resting when needed but trying not to rest too long. Since I just started swinging the 35, my endurance isn't quite up there for it so I alternated with my 25 lb bell. That gets your heart pumping nicely and the sweat flowing! Then I pressed play and finished up with Cathe. :)

ColleenD- I love CSS! I always do the bonus step portion, too. For some reason, I can't bring myself to do the shorter version! As far as dairy...I just don't think I could ever give it up. I have yogurt and granola/trail mix every day for lunch and I just love it too much! I have resorted to taking Lactaid with my lunch lately, though.

Carolyn- I LOVE fresh eggs! I used to have a "connection" for them! A few years ago I worked at our other store on the south side of town and this retired farmer would bring them in for me. They were HUGE! Seriously, like ostrich eggs practically! lol Now that I'm on the north end of town I ended up losing that (I didn't want to make him drive all the way up here just for me). We had to get used to the so called "large" eggs from the store again. Blah! :( Not only is the taste not as good but they seem tiny now!

Jean- that is fantastic you are feeling DOMS from Beast! You're probably thinking "not so much!" lol But hey, your shocking your body...perfect way to get results and avoid plateaus! :D

Meredith- Good luck with legs!!!

Missy- that's such a bummer about Tim giving up on STS! :( Maybe he could try something less demanding first, like one of Cathe's total body strength dvds? Do you have any of those? I believe you have LIS right? Maybe he could try Trisets (the express premix first, of course!). Sometimes it pays to just start s-l-o-w-l-y! ;) Did you know we are on the exact ttotm schedule? I think Carolyn isn't too far behind!

Marie- I hope you are feeling better! :( You know, toward the end of my pregnancies I would always feel like that and it was actually early contractions and false labor. I actually had mini-contractions for weeks before my water broke! It always felt like GI distress in the beginning. Something to consider!

Betty- I meant to ask you...have you ever read the Hunger Games? If you like Harry Potter, I think you would love it! The books, of course, are better than the movie . The movie was okay, I did like Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss. Very addictive reading!

Have a great day ladies!

Mmmm fresh eggs! I have been craving a good breakfast lately but I'm so boring with my Kashi and banana! Easier I guess!

I was going to walk today but think I will lift instead....just a quick light lift. Once I head to the basement I will decide.

Appt at 315 today. Other than that no plans except some grocery shopping. We have no food in the house.

I'll be back later :)

During the summer....I was eating frozen yogurt...and I started having aweful stomach pains to the point I thought something was wrong. I cut it from my diet and no more stomach pains. It was crazy. Loved the frozen yogurt, but I had to give it up!!!! So maybe by cutting something out you will feel better!

Colleen---I just love Tri Sets!!! It is a alltime favorite! That is funny that we are on the same schedule, we can moan and groan together. Are you still using the PMS cream? Is it working for you? Well, I started Tim on some of the LIS workouts and he is just a sissy! I think he thinks all of it is too hard, but he would not admit to that! He just doesn't like to workout!!! But, that not going to stop me! Oh well.....

Just ate a cup of chili for lunch. Yum!!!!

Tonight we are having Grilled hamburgers with a side salad.

Then Disc 1 it is!!!!

Check in later!

Marie I hope you are feeling better. Let us know what the Dr. says. Just 3 more weeks. How exciting. My daughters water broke with the 1st baby. The next two she scheduled an induction.

Jean

Just curious...

Did you daughter mention if being induced was more painful? I have heard some stories but not sure what to believe.

Anyone else have experience with this?

Wow, this forum is more active than usual, I am having a hard time keeping up. Last night was Disc 8 Back and Tris, it felt great. I love working back. Although I had to leave in the middle of it to pick my twins up from their friends house, I just started up again when I got home. I was thinking Disc 4 was bad for pushups, but Disc 7 was just as bad. Who but Cathe would put drop set pushups at the end of a workout when my muscles are already fried?! Anyway, loving STS again!

Welcome new Colleen! I also work and until recently had access to a gym at work so did some workouts during lunch. Now I'm trying to fit them in in the evenings but it is tough with my kids activities and dinner, etc. If you have any tips for getting my workouts in at 5am I would appreciate it!

Marie you look fantastic! You'll pop that baby right out and be back to your pre-pregnancy shape in no time!

Missy, you sure are physically active between your workouts and all the chores you do around the house. All that daily activity burns calories as well.

Carolyn and Betty, the weather was great this weekend but we could not squeeze in a trip for apple picking. Will try again next weekend. Expecting heavy rain this evening and we have a parent meeting at the school.

Meredith, the first time I did STS I followed it exactly, but the 2nd time around I'm more relaxed about it. Stick with it as you can, its a great program and you will see results.

ColleenK, I had forgotten how great the STS leg workouts are, definitely add them back in!

Jean, I hope your sister is doing ok!

Marie, with my first daughter, my water broke and contractions started right away. I went to the hospital and had no time for any pain meds. With my twins, I was induced, so they had time to give me an epidural - no pain there. I think everyone reacts differently to being induced. I have a friend who was induced but nothing happened so they sent her home and she did the whole thing again the next day. She ended up having a c-section, so who knows.
