STS first time!

Good Morning and Happy Sunday!

Colleen---How did you like the Horiznonal training? I have been watching clips and am thinking of buying. What are your thoughts?

Okay, gotta get my morning cardio in.....BBL :D

Missy- I did HD volume 2 yesterday but haven't done the volume 4 yet. My abs and back have DOMS today! Yay! I recommend trying a few but they are definitely harder than they look:eek:! I did get some wrist strain from so much plank work so I need to figure out a way to use my push up bars more as they help to keep the wrist vertical and wrist fatigue to a minimum. I use those a lot for burpees, mountain climbers, push ups, dragging and walking planks. I think next time I do volume 2 I might do the slide back and side lunges without the step...it seemed like I had some knee strain on the step. It could have been my form was off though.

you guys aren't going to believe this...I've been on the computer typing so much this past year that it's finally catching up with me! My little pinky finger on my left hand is hurting...some sort of repetive stress strain I think...so I'm typing and trying not to use it. Not easy! I'm gonna get going now but I'll be back later for more!;)

Good morning!

This morning I did the upper body premix from Muscle Endurance. I have not been doing endurance lifting lately so that was tough but good. I was trying to stick with the LIS rotation but it only has TBT for weights and even though that one is great, I felt like I needed a little change. STS is the only rotation I ever stuck with, and that was because every workout was different.

Marie, I also love Fage yogurt, better than Ciobani.

I did a live Zumba class once, but I felt like I was flopping around alot and not getting a good workout. It seems like its great for getting people up and moving though, and I agree, a great instructor makes all the difference.

Betty, I have never done Pinterest but I've read about it and it sounds addicting. I don't want to get hooked on another online activity!

Another beautiful day today, hoping to get some outside activities in. I try to get my younger daughters to go on walks with me, but they get so cranky about it that it spoils it for me. Maybe I can get them to go on a bike ride.

Have a great day!

I just finished 60 minutes on the elliptical!!!

Colleen---Sounds like you got a good workout. I am going to invest in one to see if I like it. (Horizontal conditioning) hehehe :D

Mary---Like I said I have done many many zumba classes, but only a several instructors were good. The class is the instructor. Most of the instructors in this area are fat, and they can't even get never high intensity. I go to classes for a workout not to look at myself in the mirror. I want to sweat....that is the reason I always workout at home. I always give it my all, and Cathe always leaves me drenched in sweat!!!!

Nothing better than Cathe and my friends here. :)

Gotta run....the hubby is hungry!!! BBL!!

Good Evening! Just finished baking some cookies for my hubby!!! I did cheat and have one though....but, I am going to work it off!!!

Carolyn---My horses foot is getting better. Yesterday she could not put any weight on it and she was in alot of pain. All we could do is give her (butapaste) "pain pill--like aspirin" and rub jelly on her joints. But, this morning she was trying to put pressure on it and this affternoon she is walking on it. She still has a little swelling, but doing 95% better. Thanks for asking. I will say this, be lucky your children can speak. I love my animals, but it is a thousand times more stressful when they get sick because they can't tell you what is wrong. I am not saying having kids is not stressful, but they can tell you there tummy hurts, or I fell and now my ankle hurts......with the horses, it is a guessing game!!! It will cause you to have gray hair. But, I love them!!!!

Marie---Could you see you baby bump in your dress at the wedding? I bet you were so cute!!! Keep up those workouts!!! You are amazing, being preg and continueing with the workouts.

Okay, gotta run. I have a cookie to burn off!!!

Hey all,

Today was amazing, weather-wise. I'm such a wuss that there usually are about a handful of Goldilocks-just-right summer days where I'll go outside and do extended yardwork. It can't be too hot, too humid, nor too mosquitoey! Today was perfect, so I was outdoors for hours weeding. Feels sooo good to have it done. There were some spreading perennials that I don't like and have been meaning to pull out for years!

How often do you fertilize your veggie gardens? My stuff is puny.

Carolyn, I used to wish for rainouts during my kids' baseball season.

Just told my kids yesterday never to send us to a nursing home. We want to die at home. It's really depressing in them, and the neglect is awful. No one will take care of you like your own family (you hope anyway).

We got in a half hour family walk--it was like pulling teeth to get my boys to go.

Colleen, that's odd that the repetitive strain isn't making your other fingers hurt. Difficult to type without pinky, although hubby types practically everything with his 2 index fingers.

Have a great week! Talk to you tomorrow. Must look into rotations.

Good Morning!

Got my morning run in this morning and now at work. Wish I had another day, but Monday is here. So work it is.

I am doing Scott Abel Day#3 tonight. I am still sore from all of the workouts I have been doing!!!

Well, gotta run, be back later!

:D

Betty---It depends on what crops we are talking about. Tomatoes I gave some tomato food once a month for several months. Now, they are huge and producing lots of tomatoes. The squash and cucumbers we fertilized once or twice. The peppers are growing quickly so I did not feed them. And, the corn....well, I gave up on that. Where, I work we have several farmers (our patients) that always bring in fresh picked corn. At least once a week, we have been getting corn. So, I gave up on mine. Hope this helps!!!

Gotta go!

Buon giorno, all!

Post-STS, I started by diving right into AfterBurn--yikes! So tough, and it wouldn't have been my first selection. (This was the first workout in Cathe's LIS rotation.) Twenty minutes in, I was already dying! I did the floor stuff at half-time. There's so much floor stuff! I could see where one's wrists would start hurting.

Carolyn, Power Hour and MIS seem like total strength training workouts, but Body Max uses the step in its circuits. I don't have this set, but I do have Body Max 2, one of my faves. The step is used for intensity. You walk/hop on and off, make turns, do lunges, etc. The set is a great deal, and you could skip BM altogether if you are so inclined.

Thanks, Missy, for the fertilizing hints. My corn was anemic last year (first time trying), and this year it's going, but slow. Our climate conditions us for tomatoes in August, so it's amazing you're eating fresh off your plants already!

Jean, hope you're back and all went well with your mom and sis.

Have a great day!

Betty---Hi five on After Bun!!! I love that one. And good luck with your crops. We planted our seedlings in March and kept them in a green house. We transplanted them into our garden in April. I picked the first tomatoes last week. I am so excited because I love fresh grown tomatos. Actually, everything fresh always taste better.

Check back later!

Oh, by the way.....I just purchased some Horizonantal Conditioning DVD's. Very excited!!!!!

Hey ladies! Way to get those workouts in. Carolyn- Wish I could help but I don't have Power Hour. I think you should buy it though haha! Nursing homes are hard for sure. I worked at one for 4 years. It was the nicest one in MN and still many residents didn't get the care they deserved. I was a nursing aide for 3 years and I hate to brag but I was good! I always did all the basic cares and extras like putting on makeup and painting nails. if I had extra time I would spend it with the residents and not sit at the desk like many. There are plenty of good aides out there but there are also the ones who don't even brush the residents' teeth or wash their face. It's so sad. I did love working there though. I miss all my residents. I have been back to visit a few times but many don't remember me of course ;) Oh well...still fun to stop by. Alright off to the basement. Cardio Supersets it is. I think I have only done it one once or twice.

Hello!

I did my 10-10-10 class during lunch today, sweated a bunch. Also, I have ab DOMS from the Muscle Endurance workout I did yesterday. When I woke up this morning I felt a pain in my abs, and thought something was wrong, and then figured out what it was! It must be because I have not been doing the traditional ab moves lately with LIS, and the ab exercises were tough.

Excellent purchases Carolyn! I don't have Power Hour, but I love Drill Max and CSS. CSS has a bonus step workout that I usually add on to the regular workout (more like drills, not too steppy if you don't like that) to make the workout about an hour, and I reach for CSS more often than Afterburn.

My daughter's basketball tournament was ok. They lost all 4 games, but they played hard and she was ok with it. Now bball is over, and I wish I could say the same for softball. My goodness, we had a makeup game scheduled for last Friday, they played a couple of innings and then had to call the game for thunder/lightening, and now we have to make it up tonight. Enough already!

Missy, it seems like it would be scary taking care of horses, sounds like so many things can go wrong. Like that racing horse, I'll Have Another, came up out of nowhere and now his racing career is over.

I find nursing homes so depressing, the people in them who are doing ok just seem to be waiting for something. And knowing that they probably will not leave. There isn't really an alternative for most folks though. When my father was in one, he had the nicest male aid who always made sure he was cleaned up. Good people make all the difference in that situation. On the other hand, he had a roommate who was hard of hearing and kept the tv going full blast all day.

Jean, good luck with your Mom.

Carolyn did you daughter enjoy that Field Hockey camp?

Good Afternoon! I love it when I log on and there are lots of posts to read! I get really excited! I know, I am a dork!

Jean---So glad your back. I have lost 1.5 of the 3. I am working hard at it though. I was on my period or 2 weeks and was sick so I was working out just not at the intensity I am use to. So, I am back and going strong. I just want to get the rest off. hahaha :D

Carolyn---I am like that too, add whatever to get free shipping. I hate paying for shipping! My husband laughes at me, but I am like....why pay if you can buy something else you want and end up with free shipping???

Okay, gotta run! BBL! :D

Mary---we were posting at the same time. Yes, it is very scarey when something is going wrong. But, it is also lovely when they are okay. I would not get rid of them, i love them too much. But, it is very stressful!!!! My workouts help get rid of my stress, when something does go wrong. :) Luckily my husband handles the stress very well, because I freak out!!!!

People do not realize the stress involved in getting horses untill something goes wrong. Then, they normally get rid of them. It is very sad. :(

But, my horses are part of the family. So they are going nowhere. :)

Back to work I go!!!!

Whoo hoo! The new workouts are coming the new workouts are coming the new workouts are coming!!!

I managed to finally get my STS leg disc in! I forgot how much I loved that first STS leg disc. So much variety and I was sweating tons! As for Horizontal Conditioning...day two of ab doms:eek:! It's enough to make me want to buy the other two volumes and the bootcamp! They are waiting in my cart at TotalFitness as we speak.... I know it'll just be a matter of time before I cave!:p I do find the extended plank work tough on my wrists so I'm going try to use my push up bars as much as possible. She's also good about giving breaks and going to legs for a bit. Sometimes she uses the step as a prop so I find when I have my hands on the edge of the step it feels better than when they are fully flexed flat on the step or floor. I think I'm going to try and do these workouts once or twice a week and see how my core looks after a month or two. If I can find a way to fit them in, that is!!

As much as I love my STS workouts I find myself getting a little frustrated when a whole workout day is devoted to just a few upper body muscle groups. When the new workouts come I may just put STS aside for a bit and focus on total body strength workouts along with my other stuff for awhile.

Carolyn- I don't have Power hour either so I can't help ya there. Can you really go wrong with Cathe, though?:p Oh, I just saw your post below (I started this post about an hour ago and just got back to it:rolleyes:). You are going to love CSS and Drill Max so much!! CSS is so great for cardio and I reach for that one alot, too. I did find I needed to do the gliding disc exercises on the rebounder (except for mountain climbers and anything horizontal I'm fine)...that's just me though. My knees always feel good as gold when I'm done with that and I still sweat a ton. I'll often reach for that one if I've been naughty and doing too much high impact in any given week:eek:.

Mary- you poor thing! The sports duties are endless! Darn unpredictable weather! We are really crossing our fingers that the weather cooperates when we go to Disney. Nothing like a bunch of rain to ruin a vacation!

Marie- what a sweetheart you are for doing the residents nails! I bet the ladies loved that. It's all in the details and sometimes just a little something like that can make a person feel so good!:D

Jean- you are hilarious! No, there is no bleacher work in the Horizontal Conditioning dvd, LOL. I think Sandra was just showing off her ability and her 6 pack there!;)

Missy and Betty- fresh tomatoes are the best! I have had terrible luck growing corn, too. Corn requires tremendous amounts of fertilizer and really good soil. Our soil is really sandy so this year I just stuck to the things I know I've had luck with in the past. Green beans are easy because they put their own nitrogen into the soil so no fertilizer really required. Whatever you guys do, don't over-fertilize your tomatoes! I did that last year and wound up with tomato trees that bore very little fruit! It was seriously like whacking your way through a jungle! With too much fertilizer I guess all this energy goes into the stems and leaves and the actual tomatoes don't set. I'm slowly, painfully learning this garden stuff:rolleyes:.

Hey, I just realized my pinky finger doesn't hurt any more...I feel like Carolyn...sssshhh don't jinx it!:p Weird how I'm getting all these stupid little aches and pains as I age. I'm a total baby, too. I don't handle even a little pain very well:eek:.

Have a great day ladies!

ETA: I was proofing my post and realized I wrote a book . D'oh!

Carolyn---you are going to love the new DVD's. I am rubbing off on you....you did an AM and PM workout!!! :p

And yes Colleen is rubbing off on all of us...but it is a good thing. If we keep buying new DVD's our body will never know what we are going to do. Yeah!!! :D

I too, am so excited for the new Cathe workouts!!! I am getting so giddy!!!! New Cathe and New Horizontal coming my way!!! OMG!!! I need to stop!!!!!

When our new Cathe DVD's come, we need to all do them on the same day so we can compare notes!!!! HEHEHEHEHE  Did I say I was excited????

:p:):eek::D

Love all the posts this afternoon! Way to go everyone!

OMG, Carolyn! That's devastating about your garden! All that work too! Bad puppy!:( Such a cute face, it's hard to be mad at him for long.

Marie, I just got past 200 posts. I've got a while to go. And every so often I want to change my username, and that would mean starting anew.

Missy, that's really exciting about your new Horizontal Conditioning workouts! AB had so much floor stuff that I am going to stay away from HC. My knees feel tired from AB too. Love that I burned a ton of cals though. And got a walk in today.

I'm always gleefully excited when Cathe puts out new workouts too. And all the hoopla leading up to the release, like announcements, outfits, descriptions, clips. I follow 'em like a maniac.

I like the idea of comparing notes on the new workouts.:D

Carolyn, I'm looking forward to Cathe's full body workouts again, like ME and PUB/PLB combo, and STS Total Body (omg! forgot about that one!). Have fun with PH, DM, etc. I love free shipping too. Btw, that's really clever of Lands End! Haven't heard that one before!

So glad Dylan likes the field hockey camp. Could be the start of something new!:)

Carolyn, awesome to sleep with window open, but I'm with you--birds chirping so early really gets to me in the summer. I was dead tired this morning (staying up too late reading), so I didn't hear our noisy hose come on.

Do you have KPC? I love kickboxing, and that's amazing cardio with legs being worked!

For those of you talking about CSS recently, that's what's on tap for me tomorrow, including the bonus. I have butt doms from AB today.

No one has replied to my thread. I was hoping Cathe would. I should have made the title starting with "Cathe, please help..."

They said sun for today, but no sooner did I wake up to it, than it disappeared.:( Rain's a-coming.

Chowing on kettlecorn. I should eat lunch instead!

I did Volume 4 of Horizontal Conditioning today. Hoooollllyyyy Craaaaap!! It's going to take me a long time to get proficient at that workout. Those are some crazy ball exercises she has you doing! Which ones did you wind up getting Missy? I have to confess...I wound up ordering the other two volumes and the bootcamp yesterday:eek:. Okay, okay I swear I'm done buying new workouts until the end of summer! I'm putting myself on a freeze until fall. These past 4 months have not been kind to the old checkbook:eek::eek:. I decided today I'm going to make Tuesdays my HC day for the next few months. I would love to work in another day but I have so many other workouts to get to!

I think after we get back from Disney and the new workouts are here I'm going to set aside STS for a bit and have kind of sketched out a rotation of sorts. It's sort of another concept rotation where I won't be locked into specific workouts but I'm going to give myself a little structure. What do you guys think:
Sun: Circuit workout (like To the Max, AT, Drill Max or one of my other ones like Paul Katami Burn and Build)
Mon: rest
Tue: Horizontal Conditioning (one of the volumes or the bootcamp)
Wed: Hiit or cardio (like CrossFire, AB or the Hiit dvd, maybe CCC, CSS or one
of Amy Dixon's Breathless Body's)
Thu: Total Body Strength (like High Reps, STS total body or Trisets)
Fri: Kettlebell workout
Sat: Lower body focused (like LBB, B&G or Plyo legs, maybe one of the other
STS leg workouts)

I'm thinking of doing this for 6 weeks then taking a rest/yoga week. What do you guys think? Am I crazy??? Now that I've spelled it out I'm going to have to be accountable!

Uh oh...I'm starting another novel! Better keep the rest short and sweet!

Carolyn- how's you knee feeling? Was CM good to it? Kickboxing can be pretty knee friendly, especially if you keep the impact down which is totally doable with KPC...you just don't have to jump as high and there isn't a ton of jumping anyway. I'm so sorry Cuda ruined your garden! I'd be freaking out!

Jean- that is hilarious about that lady and the webcam! Sounds like something I'd do! lol

I'm with you guys on the sounds of nature being irritating and waking you up!:p Last night I was naughty and stayed up too late watching tv. I always have a much rougher time falling asleep if it's past 10 and I know I need to get up earlier. It's like a psych myself out and am all worried about the lack of sleep I'll get and it keeps me awake worrying about it! So last night I go to bed...Mark's already asleep and has the window open...all I can hear are those d#*n crickets chirping away outside the window! Luckily I didn't have to come into work until 11 today so I was able to sleep in and still get my workout in!

Okay, gotta get some lunch in me! TTYL

Good Afternoon! Been super busy today. No time to chat.

I got up late today....so only go it 30 minutes of cardio this morning. So, I will need to make up for it tonight. I think I am doing B&G tonight.

Carolyn---too bad about your garden....Cuda was just trying to learn how to garden! :) Gotta love the animals! One day when he is all grown up, you will think back and laugh!!!!

Jean---Great job on the elliptical. 40 minutes is amazing!

Betty---I have KPC---but have never done it. I will have to put that in my schedule.

Gotta Run....patients everywhere.

BBL!!!! :D

Guess who did disc 1 today?! Yup, I did! Felt nice to get back into it. OMG though....those push-ups are way too much for me now. I had to drop to my knees way sooner than before.

Well it was pointless to make numerous posts yesterday. They all counted as number 286 lol.

Missy- Have fun with B&G tonight. Get some nice DOMS for tomorrow :)

Colleen- I love your new workout routine. Looks like an intense one. You should get some nice results from that. Shocking those muscles baby :)

Jean- Good call on the wheat germ in protein shakes. I will have to try that. The muffins are soooo good. Tony and the roommates liked them too :)

Carolyn- You are so funny! I wish I had so many Cathe videos that I didn't know which ones I had. I feel ya on calling them tapes. I'm nervous for when DVD's all go to digital downloads eventually and I have to convert them all....yikes!

Betty- Gotta love some butt DOMS :) Enjoy CSS tomorrow. I have to add that one into my rotation more often. It's a goodie!

I had a super tasty salad for lunch. Romaine, cucumbers, carrots, and shredded cheese with a spicy Ranch dressing. So good but I'm hungry again. I'm always hungry lately. I'm blaming it on my growing boy haha! He is around 1lb and 12inches now and will double in weight in the next few weeks. So fun being pregnant :)
