STS Body Rockers (formerly STS New Years Challengers :) - Week of June 19th

good morning...? yep..stilll.

Today I did STS legs disk 23 and then I rode? cycled? for 20.5 miles in 1 hr. 28 min. I have to admit that after doing STS legs and getting on that bike I was questioning whether there was going to be a happy ending or not! :D but I settled in after a few miles. Whoo-there were some good hills too. We have great bike trails and it was absolutely lovely riding through the vineyards! Gonna be another hot one here today...:(

fit mommy: I have trouble with 4DS HIS choreo too! That BR see your abs looks great...I have done the knees up on the dip bar only. I may do that again today..I like it better than floor work and need some abs...I hate to tell you of all people,...but I rarely do my abs...and I can tell.

Katie: woo hoo!! done with Meso 2....I am almost there..only 1 more to go. I could just do it tomorrow and be done with it....but I am thinking I would like to do Intensity tomorrow ...have not done that in a long time.

Bridge and Melanie: would love to go to Connecticutt or the East coast even...I used to live in MI for a short while...but that was when I was a little girl... But I am a California girl born and bred.

autumn: love that disappear magic... I just had my hair done last week and asked my girl to put in more highlights and less low lights....regretting it. I just look better with more dark and a bit of light and not more light!!! Oh well...I have to live with this until the end of July:( I never learn...I do this all the time..."O go lighter," I say...and then I always hate it! I hope yours turned out great!! Just in time for your road trip!

kiki: I am not a dark chocolate fan :( I love milk chocolate... but I have to say...when I am absolutely desperate for chocolate and I have none...I have been known to break into the freezer and open a bag of semi-sweet chips and eat them in secret. does that count for dark chocolate?? but that is truly an act of unmitigated desperation.

Hi there ladies :)

Hope you're all doing great today - I did Disc 9 this a.m. - I was having a good strong morning and "put my game face on" and did it:) It was tough for sure, and I'm starting to feel it when I rise from sitting  (but I love that kind of soreness)

Wendy - yeah, I did Weights and Plates one for the 2nd time, but I would say the Plate ones especially are far from pretty for sure (and definitely fewer on each of those) lol. That makes me feel better that you think it's one of the toughest (as you are called the Ab Nazi )

Katie - Wooo hooo on finishing M2! That's awesome, enjoy your recovery week and congratulations! I really had Disc 9 psyched up to terrible, so it wasn't as bad as I thought - but it was tough tough for sure. The cardio fix I do is one that Cathe posted - it's 1 minute of jumping jacks, 1 minute of stepping onto 8 inch step, 1 minute of jogging in place (pumping arms over head), 1 minute of jumping rope motion and then 1 minute of kicking one leg forward and the other back and switching legs midway) and repeating that 4 times (so 20 minutes - nice when I need an add on:) Glad your headache is better :)

Hi Bridget, Melanie, Autumn, Kiki and Tracy:)

Melanie- the Hampton will be fine- as long as it isn't the Ramada- they have problems paying their taxes, electric, and just last week had their power turned off- they are filming a zombie movie here, and the movie people were stuck!

S&P is good- the Lebanese restaurant that is good is the Pita Spot on Route 1 it is BYOB if you need to, and count on waking up smelling like garlic the next morning. Mystic YMCA isn't too far from Pita Spot, if you want to join me for a 5am spinning class! (seriously, if you want, I can try to get you a guest pass) There is a place on the river- not far from S&P- that you can rent kayaks. The cider mill is usually closed in the summer. Another nice place to go that isn't too far is Stonington borough. The restaurants are good, less touristy, and there are shops and a beach at the end of the point. If you like nautical stuff- there is a submarine museum in Groton near the Navy base- of course there are 2 casinos- you will be at the Seaport- and the aquarium is nice if you are bringing kids. The penguins from Mr Popper's penguins came from there, I think.

I will be away this weekend- I'll PM you with my information, feel free to call with any questions- tourist or otherwise!

Bridget

Hey Bridget!- what a crazy coincidence!! Me & my hubby are meeting my parents there and we're checking out the Wooden Boat Show.

I really wanted to stay at the Mermaid Inn - but it was a little too pricey. So we're staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites - it has great reviews on Trip Advisor.

On Sunday we'll be going on the Argia cruise which I'm really looking forward to. So is the S&P Oyster restaurant as good as the reviews on Trip Advisor? Also I heard there's a great lebanese restaurant there that I'm looking forward to checking out. We're also hoping to be able to rent a kayak for a few hours. Is the cider mill worth checking out?

Mainly I'm excited about seeing my parents - I haven't seen them for a year. The boat show is more for my dad's benefit, but I'll just be happy being with them.

So this is too awesome that you're from Mystic!! I've never been, so I'm really looking forward to seeing that part of the U.S. Any tips you have would be very much appreciated!! Thanks!

:)

Checking in:

I did my spinning class this morning, hope to try an STS ab workout today- time permitting. There is a nice dull ache in my shoulders & upper back from STS1 yesterday, not oppressive, but I know it's there. I think the weight selection is right on.

Kiki & Katie- On your recommendations, I saw the dark chocolate PB cups in the checkout and had to check them out- so good, so evil! Fortunately my favorite candy bar, Coffee Crisp, is only available in Canada. I used to get them from family in Buffalo, and freeze them at home- then I found they were still good right from the freezer- they din't last.

Wendy- I am originally from Buffalo, most of my family still lives there, and I will be attending a wedding shower for my cousin- driving leaving Friday, coming back Monday.

Tracy- I have never been to California, but I think I would like to go- that sounds like a nice ride through wine country- 20 miles sounds like a lot after doing your legs- are you still walking?

Kris- I can appreciate that nice dull DOMS ache- just not the- "I can't walk" ache

Autumn- what kind of setting do you work as a nurse at?

Jen- 6 months sounds like a long commitment, if 3 1/2 months weren't enough!

Will check in tomorrow after STS2

Bridget

zbridget: 20 miles IS a lot after doing my legs...as I was beginning the ride...I thought..."am I an idiot or what?":p but I just kept going and actually I am feeling ok now. I may feel it tomorrow...but now DH just told me that he wants to do the same ride tomorrow . I love it! a challenge! my life is pretty (snore) boring otherwise . woo hoo on your spin class ( my DH used to love these) and your STS DOMS!

Hey rockers.

No workout for me today :( Katie gave me her headache :p, and I have been over here in full blown, blind-in-one-eye, if-I-move-I'll-puke, migraine mode. Why am I even talkin to y'all right now?...oh yea, just wanted to let u know that I was alive....for now at least

Finished ST2 today- trying to figure out my substitution for the chin-up/pull-ups move. I have a handled-band double wrapped around a doorknob- not sure if that was effective enough- would love the turbo tower- if- rather when- I successfully finish STS, I will consider that as a purchase- I figure I can keep it in my laundry room and tell my husband it is for drying clothes as a second use!

Tomorrow, I do STS3- then I have to drive to Buffalo for 8 hours with my daughter. I was planning on not working out while I was away, or maybe a light walk, then I found a nearby YMCA that also has spinning classes- I'm telling you, I'm hooked!!- so if I can walk the next morning, I will do that too.

Ugh- Kiki- feel better- do you have any rescue medication for the migraine? How are you treating it?

Hello Rockers (in a British accent). I really suck at imitating accents, so I have to do it in writing. Today's my rest day so i'm bright and chipper because I got to sleep in this morning. YAY! Also, today is my last day at work until JULY 5TH!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!! I NEED a vacation something awful. My family is leaving for Florida early Sunday morning (at like 3:00 am) so i'll be spending the next 2 days running around like a chicken with my head cut off packing and getting ready. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the FL trip yet. Here's the list of people who are going: (i) DH (and me), (ii) my sister, her husband and two kids, (iii) my mom and dad, (iii) my DH's mom, dad, and sister, and (iv) my friend from law school + her DH and daughter. My brother-in-law's parents were supposed to come but they backed out last minute so my friend from law school took their place. I'm praying the vaca is awesome but preparing for a disaster (I tend to be slightly cynical ).

Kiki: ARE YOU STILL ALIVE OVER THERE? ;) :p I'm so sorry about your headache! :( I don't get migraines often, but when I do they are incapacitating! I wouldn't wish one on my worst enemy...okay maybe my worst enemy, but of course never an awesome chica like you! I hope you're feeling better today. Make sure to take it easy.

Wendy: Way to sneak in that BR workout - haha! Yup I think I know what ab move you are talking about. I like that one! For some reason I enjoy working my obliques. Except for that jack knife moves Cathe LOVES to do (because it's in like every abs routine). I hate that one because it is sooo tough ...which means I should probably do it more often. What do you think of Meso 3 so far??

Tracy: Wow, a 20 mile bike ride AFTER STS legs? Now THAT'S crazy talk extreme! Are you feeling it today? :p Seriously way to go! Maybe the ride helped stretch out your leg muscles a bit...okay I don't really know what i'm talking about but it sounds good in my head. :D Have fun with Intensity today!!

Bridget: YAY for STS DOMS! :p I didn't get DOMS much in Meso 1, but when I did I was always very excited. Now in Meso 2 DOMS have become a regular part of my life. :) Any luck trying an STS abs workout? Sooo the Dark Chocolate Reese's PB cups were good? Okay, that's it, i'm definitely getting one on vacation (chanting in my head...just one, just one, just one). :D

Kris: Thanks for your kind words! I honestly can't believe Meso 2 is done. I feel like I just started STS yesterday. The rotation goes by so fast. Great job with Disc 9! I knew you were going to rock it. ;) :) Thanks so much for the posting Cathe's cardio fix! I maybe use that while on vacation. I'm going to try to do less intense cardio - swimming laps, walks, etc. but throwing in the cardio fix every couple of days will be a perfect way to get my heart pumping!

Hi Jen, Kristin, Melanie, and Autumn!

Good Morning Ladies.

STS M3 W2 D30 (SBT)...DONE! :D I love these SBT work outs for some reason. I think it's cause there's very little equipment involved so the goes by quickly and smoothly.

Katie:: So what part of FLA are you all going to? What kind of vaca is it-relax on the beach or site see or do Disney?? We are going to Disney in Aug. I can't wait! :D I completely understand where you are coming from regarding your feelings about the group that is going on vacation with you. We vacation with my SIL and her family every year and it can be a bit stressful at times to say the least. I am sure you'll have fun though even if you hit a few "rough patches" in your week. One flare up of that red-headed temper will have em all in line in no time! LOL ;):D

Bridget:: LMAO-I love your justification for buying a tower (its secondary use!)! That's awesome! Let us know if your DH goes for it! :D

Kiki:: Sorry about the headache. That stinks! ((((HUGS))))

Kris:: How's the Disc 9 DOMS? That disc gave me (any many others) some of the worst M1 lower body DOMS ever! I limped in pain for THREE SOLID DAYS over that work out!

Tracy:: I'll bet riding was good for the legs after working them with weights. I used to like to run after weight training-the same day or the day after w/DOMS. It helped to work out the kinks...once I stopped crying from the pain! LOL :p No worries-the ab nazi is here to help. I will get those abs whipped into shape in no time! Bwahahahah! ;)

Well, my DH wanted to ride this morning, so I got up at 5:45 in the AM, yes, people me, 5:45 in the MORNING. and we were on the road by about 6. He wanted to do the same route I did yesterday. I was really concerned I would not make it, because I am feeling the pain...not cardiovascularly, but in my boot (saddle sore) and my neck-because you have to get used to riding in a certain position. But anyway we went and he pushed me and I improved my time. So no Intensity today...but hopefully tomorrow...because I want to finish Meso 2 of STS today,.. so I will do Back and biceps later...that workout is generally pretty easy and not too demanding.

Katie: wow, that is a lot of people! It sounds fun! Do you all rent a big house or stay in the same hotel or what? Or is it tent camping? Are you going to workout on your vaca somehow?

fitmommy: thanks for the leniency...I need it...this cycling stuff has got me whooped for now. what's SBT?

kiki: hope you are feeling better today...I don't know what was going on yesterday...but I managed to get a headache too...and I don't usually get them...but I was ready to go to bed at 6 and had to make myself stay up...

zbridge: I had the same issue with the pull-ups in M 1 because, at that time, I did not have my STS tower either. I have a industrial sized treadmill though, which has front and side arm rests that I used to do the modified pull-ups...where there's a will there's a way! Finally, I happily ordered the tower. It's on Amazon, by the way, for almost half of what Cathe.com charges plus free delivery:

Amazon.com: Altus Athletic Altus Turbo Tower: Sports & Outdoors

I bought it for $68 with free shipping I think...and the price has already gone up to $70..but it is totally worth it!

Tracy:: Great job on the bike ride!!! You are awesome! Take a nap and you'll be rarin' to go when it's time to get STS done later! Power naps rock IMO! :) SBT stands for shoulder/bi/tri. That's what D30 works. Love the combo!

Hi ladies!! I'm multi-tasking... replying to this, nursing & watching Casey Anthony Trial. Let's see... Tuesday evening C25K, Wednesday nuttin' & today CleanMax + TBD ;). An awesome Cathlete on FB gave another website to check out...myohmytv.com... so I may try one of these or another short kbell workout. Omgosh, just a few more days until WDW!!! I'm so excited!! Wish I was meeting more of you STS Body Rockers!!!

Hi ladies. My computer was being super dumb yesterday, so couldn’t check in. Did Imax 2 for the first time yesterday. I bought it months ago during the big DVD sale, but had been terrified to try it. Verdict? Yup, it’s pretty rough, but it’s awesome. Also did STS disc 2. The person I was doing the 6 month STS rotation with dropped, so I’m trying to decide if I want to keep on keeping on with the 6 month rotation, or shorten it down to the 3 month. Decisions, decisions…

Katie – Nice work finishing meso 2! Yay!

KiKi – super sorry about your headache! I hate those days. Hope you’re feeling better!

Tracy – I’m impressed with (and jealous of) all of your biking! Sounds really, really fun!

autumn: I really am excited for you all who are going to go to the RT!! I wish I could be there too. But I have determined that the next RT I am going to do everything I can to be there! I have already started working on my DH now for then :D. Are you taking your kids or having DH or family watch them?

jenhitt: great work for IMAX2!! Doing it the first time could be quite a shock I imagine, but after that it gets funner and funner (bad grammar, I know:p). The biking is really fun and I am really glad that DH and I can do it together. I think it will be even better once my bum stops hurting and my neck builds up its cycle muscles!

I just finished STS disk 24...so I am done with Meso 2! Can't believe it!! I have so much junk to do today...I have got to go and stop procrastinating!

kiki: are you better?

Hey Autumn, how’s the C25K going? I am the *hugest* fan of that program. I had wanted to run forever, but it just seemed out of reach. Thanks to C25K, I not only have run several 5ks, but have completed 3 half-marathons. I still remember, though, how scared I was of that first 20 minute run.

I am so jealous of everybody doing the road trip – you’re going to have such a blast. Like Tracy, I have been dropping hints to my husband that I’m going to the next one.

I'm typing my updates as I watch the news- Michelle Obama was doing pushups with Bishop Desmond Tutu- no fooling, and she is on her toes and her form was perfect! I have so much work to do!

Tomorrow, I may go spinning at 5am, then follow up the madness with STS3-no worse than Tracy starting with STS legs then biking 20 miles!

Tracy- thank you for the link to the tower- I added it to my Amazon wish list, the low price and free shipping make it even more tempting. hmmmm

Kiki- hello? are you okay? Seriously, feel better we're thinking of you

Wendy- what is STS M3 W2 D30 SBT? I know STS, Meso 3- what is W2 D30, and what is SBT?

ricklyk1- I have been procrastinating on the ab workouts- soon though! I love Disney, would love to do the Cathe road trip there- but I am fearful of the intensity of that group!

Melanie- enjoy your trip- remember, Mystic Pizza is a real place- go there for a slice!

Hi Jen & Kristin

Hi there - rest day for me today - I thought I might get a wild hair and do something, but the day got away from me - so a real rest day. I am off the next 3 days - yay:) DH is waiting for me to watch a movie now, so will check in with personals tomorrow:) Have a great night!

Quick check in- the original plan was to do STS3legs, but I was feeling strong, so I did my spin class at 5am, followed by STS3- when Cathe announced the bonus burn, I stopped and did the stretch- not sure if that was a good idea to do 2 workouts in a day, and ordinarily I don't. I don't like exercise that much! However, I found a cardio exercise that I enjoy and look forward to, and your enthusiasm for STS is contagious!

May be checking in sporadically over the next few days- we're on the road to Buffalo- a long car ride- will be taking frequent leg stretch breaks- something tells me that I'll need them!

Take care friends!

Bridget
