Strong & Sensible

Hey ladies

Lisa - you must be having fun to be dragged away from your Peloton!! I probably will be working at home again soon. We're being allowed to work from home but I'm going in this week cos there's things I need to do there. Schools and unis still open but who knows for how long. Theatres have shut, but restaurants/pubs etc. still open but people being encouraged not to go out.

Tracy - it's great to get a bit of a new look. It's so easy to fall into a pattern of buying the same things all the time. You were lucky to get to your festival before everything shuts down!! There are loads of empty shelves in the supermarkets here. People have just been stupid. For some reason, the most popular thing to buy is toilet roll!

Well, I'm still going into work at the moment as it feels like there's stuff I need to do there but I think from Monday I'll probably start working from home. I've been mixing up the workouts, bits of yoga, cardio and weights. I find it quite amusing that there are lists of 'ways to work out at home' around now. We're pros on here!!
My parents are due to visit this weekend but I'm not sure whether they'll come. Over-70s are being advised to stay at home. I just read something that said this could go on till July or August!!

Oh how I’d love to see my GD but practicing social distancing, for her benefit as well as ours. We did go for a bike ride Monday, um, people you’re supposed to be working and schooling from home, not out on the paths and parks! It was weekend type busy. Restaurants, bars, movies, casinos, gyms all closed for 8 wks. Ski areas ordered closed too. May get a bike ride in tomorrow before snow hits. Stay safe everyone!

I did CW yesterday and a little walk at a preserve with the Peleton app. Today will be...?

Lisa, paths are too crowded for you? LOL. I noticed more people out as well. I put the Peleton app on my phone and also on my TV. I hope your kids can enjoy the extended cocoon in new baby land. Why don't you request refund on Disney?

Ronne, yes we are pros at the home fitness! Same here as far as empty shelves especially TP. Re clothing box, I will decrease the frequency for sure and keep fewer pieces. Actually, if I am willing to spend a little more (same as what I will be spending on box), I could just shop at a nicer store and only come home with non-shlub stuff and have similar result for less money. But having a stylist is the advantage of stitch fix.

Mary, are your kids all back home now? Can you get money back on grad expenses? How is Cathe Live going these days? I wonder if she will close her gym.

Tracy, have you shifted to working from home yet? I hope your dad stays safe! Sorry about the celery being gone it's like a juicing thing the miracle cure lol every time I go to Whole Foods and buy it, the guy there acts like I'm one of the wackos and I'm sure that's just escalated with this virus

Re virus, I think the social distancing is good, but I think much more testing at the beginning (and now please) would have been way way better and helped to decrease the impact to our economy. Current plan seems like shut down the country and also panic.
Ironically, social isolation is my fantasy

Hi everyone! How’s everyone handling the isolation? I know in normal times, I dreamed of being forced to stay home, now I just want to get out and deal with people I can’t stand! Lol! It is nice with the kids. My classes have been canceled for the semester, thought about getting another position, however with getting hired, oriented, etc it would be time to go back to class.

Not much here, have cleaned, working out, and the kids make me play monopoly.
Stay safe everyone, I keep you in my prayers.
Mary

Hi fit babes! Restaurants, bars, schools and Lord help me--hairdressers--are closed here statewide! I had an appt. yesterday that was abruptly cancelled! Guess we weren't doing enough social distancing here.

I think hoarding toilet paper is the go-to product for those that panic and it seems to be international! We are on mandatory teleworking as of yesterday and I feel exhausted over the whole thing. Just adjusting to so many changes so quickly probably.

Ronne, I agree we are pros at doing the home workouts! Hope you were able to get to work safely and are back home without incident.

Hi Lisa! We're staying away from our grand nephew too. I would love to see him but won't risk it. People are getting outside here a bit too because we've had sunny weather this week! I haven't been anywhere where it's somewhat crowded like you have. Yard work is in my future this weekend!

Hi Jody! I LOLed at your comment about social isolation, I guess you are not experiencing that. I'm sorry! You can have mine if you want. I agree that not enough testing has been done or precautions taken until it was too late. It seems at my work, some people get information and go right into panic mode. My boss and I have been a little irked that no one can figure things out for themselves and left it all to the 2 of us.

Mary, you made me laugh when you said you want to get out and deal with people you can't stand! I have to say it's been easier dealing with my pain in the arse co-workers from a distance! I'm glad you are enjoying your kids even if they drag you into monopoly games!

I've been doing my best to follow the same workday routine at home that I do a work and it's going well. I've brought my lunch to work for years so I didn't flip out trying to figure out what to make. I definitely miss the face to face talking though! I am continuing with Beach Body's the Work and it's going pretty well. I can do most of the moves and I'm delighted that the women in the class have more endurance than the men. Women so rock!!

I am grateful that DH and I can work from home and keep our jobs. I am grateful for all of you here and pray for your safety and health. I'm really grateful for our technology too. But I've gotten bad news too. The resident where my dad lives passed away (it was in the news). I haven't called my dad yet because I don't even know what to say. I'll call him this weekend after a few days have passed. And I can tell him all about working at home. :p

This whole crazy thing is till blowing my mind. I hope it ends soon! Take care fit babes! Tracy

Tracy, hugs for your dad. I hope you are able to ease his worry and distress. I also had a hair appt cancel on me but I wasn't set on keeping it anyway. I could have used a mani to fix the aging gel mani I got for Hamilton, but I've peeled most of it all off now so I guess I dodged a few bullets (money and social) with that one. Apparently the malls are also closed.

Mary, traditional Monopoly or some specialty version? I heard (Vergecast) that board games are some of the products potentially affected by supply chain interference. In my head I think I want to play Catan or some elaborate board game, but reality is I'd probably just watch Westworld. I just returned a small stack of unread overdue library books.

Ronne, do you have good testing there? Will you be able to transition to work from home? Mum and Dad visit or no? Disney is closed til end of March (at least). Agree with statement, "people have just been stupid." I figure I could live off the weird powders and and stuff for quite some time, but feel fortunate that I already had the loo roll on hand.

Lisa, thanks for the heads up on Peleton app. Ironically, I used the Peleton app to go outside! You are getting snow? I'm sorry you are missing all the feels on new babe. : (

I did BM2 (short scrambled legs version). That is a really fun step to me. I think it is the lower body wt work that hurts knee. I'm still sticking to my rotation with just a few deviations. Stay well my friends!

Hi Ladies

Jody - I'm not so keen on BM2, do it very rarely. No, I don't think the testing situation is much better here. Frontline health staff are asking to be tested so they can get back to work if they're clear. The govt have said they're going to ramp up the number of tests. This is my first day of working at home. Oddly enough, I don't really like it!! M&D visit definitely off but DD coming home today, hurrah! Will be good to have her back. She won't be going back after Easter holidays so we will need another trip back to empty her room. Never imagined her first year would finish like this.

Tracy - glad to hear that both you and DH can work at home. I feel really sorry for small business owners, this is going to hit them really hard. I can see a lot of people losing their jobs. Sorry also to hear about your dad, hope he stays well.

Lisa - what a shame you can't see new granddaughter. I can't believe that it's busy where you are. I've been getting the bus into work this week and I've been the only person at my stop and just two or three people on the bus. I don't suppose it will make any difference if you do get snowed in with all the closures!

Mary - Are they not trying remote teaching? Will you still get paid? At least you get to enjoy time with your family.

I'm working at home from today. Will go into the office if needed but I don't think there will be anyone there anyway. Most of my colleagues in other departments are already working from home. It does all feel a bit strange.
DH and I went to the pub last night - we want to support our local amenities.
I've been doing FS all week, just the weight sections.
Have a nice weekend. It's Mother's Day on Sunday here so at least I'll have my daughter home which is the best present :)

Hi everyone! Don’t have much to report, I just came to the family room from the kitchen, will soon be heading to the bathroom to shower. Big plans.

Ronne, I do the clinical portion with the students, we are on site at the hospital, they don’t want us to infect the patients, since they are all ready compromised. Just found out I don’t qualify for unemployment because I am a contract employee. Hopefully with in 2 months we will be back at it!

I’m jealous you can go to the pub! All our bars and restaurants are closed, just essentials are open. Trying to make the kitchen table pub-like!

Lisa,I’m sorry you can’t get your hands on that baby! This time we are in is so surreal. Thank goodness for FaceTime, she will learn your voice!

Jody, are you getting slammed yet? I hope not, I saw all the “stupid kids” on the news. I remember being that age and feeling invincible. The one kids cracked me up and made me cringe, “I’ve been planning this trip for SO long! 2 months!”
Please stay safe.

Tracey, thoughts to your dad. This is all so unbelievable. I hope your co-worker treats you well! Lol!

Good thoughts to all, I’m going to go visit the shower for a bit and then see where I get to! Mary

Hi all,
I slept til 930, watched tv for two hours then did MM and a hike yesterday. Today I took mom to doc for follow up on her shoulder which is going better. Work remains weird- slow at the moment.

Mary, they've closed the state parks and boat ramps and some of the beaches now. How many showers a day are you taking? : D My friend's dh sent his neighbor a beer via drone! I think they normally hang out together happy hour time poolside at a tiki bar they built together.

Ronne, I'm happy you had Mother's day with dd! Yes, that is too bad about how her year ended. Have you re adjusted to work from home? I hadn't done bm2 in a while, but it is sort of in my deserted island with a dvd player and you can only have 5 discs pile.
So on that note...I'd like to make a conscious effort to say I did fine on BM2 (not whine about my lost? olden days of step and stamina prowess, LOL)

Lisa, did you really get snow? How is everyone holding up? How do you put your peleton workouts on strava?

Tracy- it is blowing my mind as well. I have a friend who is making hand sanitizer from aloe and Everclear?

Time for sleep~ tomorrow is IMAX 4 I think and maybe find another isolated hike if we continue to have nice weather.

Hi all,

Yes, we did get snow, probably about 10 inches. It’s all gone now, might get a bike ride in tomorrow before windy (but warm, but too windy to ride ) weather, then rain/snow. I’m the Olympian at social distancing but even this is irritating. Governor won’t issue ‘shelter at home’ because there’s a lot of rural areas, Denver is now in a shelter at home, surrounding cities may join in(Boulder just added shelter in place, that’s where I am). Can still exercise outside but try to cut back by 50%. Only solo sports. Guess all the parks were packed this weekend in groups, people! Authorities are getting irritated. Governor did issue only 50% of employees can work at a time, well except for Denver, no noncritical work allowed. Liquor and MJ stores closed as non critical, lines formed within minutes! So they reversed that.

Mary, major bummer about unemployment. I sure hope the 401k recovers! Isn’t Ohio shutdown now too?

Ronne, it’s like people don’t have to report to work so instead they go to the parks, with no social distancing.

Jody, I asked niece travel agent if we could get a refund, she said she’s trying to check but phones busy. That was over a week ago, I’m waiting to see what happens in a week. Prez seems to want this over with, as my mom used to say, wish in one hand and poop in the other and see which fills up the first. Got ya laughing now?

Tracy, hows things with you? Sorry so short, I read it all and promptly forget what I read, but at least I can follow social distancing unlike other humans.

Jody,
Peloton to strava, you have to go to the website onepeloton.com and log in there with userid/pw, go to settings and set it up there.

Hi all! Shutdown day 8?? I’m losing track of days and time! Working out, decided to re-paint downstairs bathroom, they had wallpaper, ripped that off, kind of a bad choice, now I have to re-sparkle the walls, I know now why they wallpapered!

Lisa, 10 inches??? Dang, that’s a lot of snow! I’m looking at our grass, it’s growing, at least that will get me out of the house! Lol. We have had stay at home orders since the 13th, glad we went out to dinner then!

Ronne, I just heard your Prime Minister, stay safe! Is DD home from college? All our dorms have been shut down, all online classes. I tried watching one of DS’s lectures from Harvard, I would never pass! The professor just kept droning on, the words didn’t even seem as they belonged strung together! Lol

Jody, I won’t say the “q” word, I hope it stays that way for you! Do you have enough masks? DH was given one mask for the week. I am horrified by the lack of basic supplies. I don’t know if I would be able to do BM2! I haven’t done a proper step workout it a long while!

Tracey, how’s the working from home? How’s the new co-worker? Giving you any trouble?

Not much else here, kids make me watch all the Harry Potter movies, who knew there were 8?? Also, Stranger Things, did not need to see that! DH is working so much, right now he’s setting up tents to make testing centers. I feel so bad for him, he’s frustrated most of all because his workouts are being messed with. Ok, I’m done, I will try and find more joy to share next time.
Stay safe and well my friends, Mary

Mary, I liked stranger things! I’ve never seen nor read HP. What a project you got going on with that bathroom! I pray Dh and Jody stay safe. This is getting more unsettling. I go grocery tomorrow trying to stock up for another couple of weeks. Going during senior hours since DH is a senior!

We got in a bike ride even though I rode Peloton this morning. Double points for me? It was nice but a bit windy (hate riding into a head wind). Soooooo many people exercising, this is not normal! Guess it’s because gyms are closed. Everyone seemed very respectful to keep distance.

It's official..... Grocery shopping (even during senior hours) is 100 times more stressful than exercising on the crowded trails.

I'm so glad I'm keto, that I stocked up on delivered organic meat (a big freezer full), and that I stocked up on 2 weeks of food right before the hysteria started.

I know I'm anxiety prone but even DH says it's stressful.

Oh and very limited canned tomatoes to buy to make chili. Good thing I like jalapeños in my canned tomatoes.

Hi fit babes! Thank you for your kind words about my dad. I'm very pleased to report that he has been in lockdown for over a week and he's doing great! DH and I have also passed the 2 week mark of getting it from AZ or from the Seattle airport--whew! Some TSA agents there have tested positive in the last couple of days.

Hi Jody! I am glad things have been quiet for you at work--I hope it stays that way! I haven't done BM2 in eons 'cause it's over an hour. I know I can do a timesaver but still.... Loved that a neighbor sent a drone of beer to his neighbor--genius! Yes, you can make hand sanitizer with aloe and rubbing alcohol. But you can't get rubbing alcohol anywhere so Everclear will certainly work! It's the closest thing to moonshine that I know of so it has enough alcohol to kill germs.

Ronne, I feel really bad for small business owners too. A lot of the restaurants here are doing take-out now and I hope that is helping. My dad was a small business owner and he would have hurt from this shutdown. I know of someone who has been laid off temporarily. I am happy for you that you have DD home for Mother's Day, but it is very unusual for her first year of college to end this way, I agree! Are you getting used to working at home? I am and I am really loving the commute!

Hi Mary! I'm sorry you can't get unemployment--that's terrible! Perhaps you can make your downstairs bathroom into a pub! I hope DH stays safe, I can understand the stress he must be under, especially having his workouts messed with! I hate it when mine are messed with! I didn't know there were 8 Harry Potter movies but I did like Stranger Things. Did DS understand his professor? I hope so! My new co-worker is awesome! My support staff, however, is barking at the neighbor dogs entirely too much!

I am shocked you got 10 inches of snow so late in the season Lisa! WOW! Our governor was really mad at the people who flocked to the beach this past weekend because no social distancing was practiced. We finally got some beautiful weather and people threw caution to the wind! I did yard max all weekend. I don't know about our liquor stores, but I think the MJ stores are open due to Rx for them. I burst out laughing that they were going to close there and promptly reversed that! I agree with you that grocery shopping was the most stressful event I've experienced since this all began! It was so crowded last week we couldn't practice social distancing. I think that's getting better though. The stores are limiting the amount of people that can go in at a time. I've stocked up on a few things food-wise and am glad I did. I even know someone who went to the store at noon today and got TP!

I have continued with the Work this week and I'm keeping up OK! Everyone in the cardio workout today lost their stamina but I didn't. I credit Cathe with that! The program is 6 weeks long and I am on week 2. I'll switch back to Cathe once we get back to work though. There are too many compound movements that cause tomatohead and profuse sweating! As far as I can tell, we are to "stay home and stay safe" for another 2 weeks. I hope that will get our numbers down, they keep going up!

Take care and stay healthy fit babes!

Hello fellow recluses

Tracy - well done you on the cardio! You can rely on Cathe to get you in good shape. Glad to hear that you, DH and your dad are all well and clear. Keep enjoying the homeworking, I think you might be there for a while ...

Lisa - sounds like you're coping pretty well with the shutdown. It's also a good time to be vegan, when DD went to the supermarket before leaving uni last week she said there was loads of vegan food when other shelves were empty. Having said that, I think things have moved on now. There seems to be more food and general supplies around (DH just bought some flour!) as I think people realise there are no shortages and we just have to get used to the new normal.

Mary - hope your DH has all the PPE he needs doing that v important work. Here's a round of applause from the UK for him :D Have you done that over there yet? It's something that they've been doing in Italy and France, people standing outside their houses or hanging out of windows clapping to support health and emergency workers. We did it last night for the first time; it felt really nice. You have my sympathy on the HP films; I've seen them a few times, there's one I call 'Miserable Camping' (7?) as most of it seemed to take place in a tent in bad weather!!

Jody - you go with BM2, you could take my copy with you as a back-up to the desert island if the first one got scratched!! It seems odd that you're so quiet. Would you get COVID19 cases admitted to your place? Glad you're enjoying a bit of peace and downtime anyway.

End of first homeworking week - I was ready for Friday. I've done mainly metabolic workouts this week: AB premix, ICE MB, Xtrain SC and some yoga. I'm having a virtual beer with a friend tonight - well the beer's real but they're virtual!
Probably get some cleaning done this weekend, the house is looking a bit neglected. I'm getting DD involved, she can do the hoovering!! Have a nice weekend, everyone.

oops, I started this the other day and didn't finish and post to I will add that I only do BM2 parts! Yesterday I did LIC. I tried to go for a walk but the trails are all closed now as well. Mary, so many hugs and prayers to your DH! I hope he stays safe and well. Ronne, my work was in the space where elective and non essential things were cancelled but we didn't have lots of virus- that is changing now. Cheers to the virtual get together with friend! Lisa, I sort of assumed your kids would be home bound as well? Lucky you on the food thing. I have something up my sleeve but will elaborate later, I need to sleep. And Tracy, below is my post I started yesterday or day before. I'm listening to lots of podcasts and research! Weird to see my professional organization's statement featured on MedCram! We aren't using one vent for multiple patients yet, I hope it doesn't come to that.

Tracy, the numbers seem likely to increase because testing has increased- essentially shining a light on what was already there. I think it will be difficult to assess the doubling rate accurately (rate at which number of cases double over time) as guidelines for testing are shifting and availability for tests increase. But yes, I also hope these stay at home measures help, a LOT! LOL at tomato head, I was what??? Ohhhh, hahaha.

Side note, alcohol and soap work to mess up the lipid outer layer of the virus which is why effective, also bleach (for same reason?) but according to Mercola regular household vinegar isn't strong enough.

Hi everyone! Nothing new here, have been working out, today I did one I found on YouTube, Colleen Freese, kind of a combo of Cathe and a barre instructor. I liked it for something different.

Ronne, I have tried to entice my kids with cleaning, they don’t seem to have much enthusiasm for it tho! With everyone home, there is a lot more wash, they seem to wear so many clothes, but we aren’t going anywhere??!!

Lisa, how’s that baby doing? Growing fast I imagine. I had to run out and pick up some stuff today. They were out of cheese!?? Of course, no toilet paper, paper towels, etc. but cheese??

Tracey, sounds like your security guards are taking their job very seriously! Lol. Good to know that there are some employees that still have a good work ethic!

Jody, please stay safe. I keep you in my prayers. They closed your trails? Our parks are still open for walking, etc. no playgrounds tho. I did pick up sticks in the yard yesterday. Whoo hoo!

Had a cookout with the neighbors yesterday, from a distance, we each sat at our respective picnic tables. Nice to talk to different faces! Lol. The washer just buzzed for me. Hope everyone is well, stay safe, ❤️ Mary

Mary, well they bought out the cheese because they needed to get constipated since there’s no TP? Lol. No kids take after you and your love of cleaning, darn!

Jody, I worry for you too. I finally got my niece (travel agent) to cancel Disney. Got that refunded but now waiting to see how the airline tickets are handled. Frustrated that I can’t do anything and everything must be done thru niece.

Ronne, I saw the applause. Not sure how that’d work here except in the city. My county is like the lone ‘lower cases’ county surrounded by counties with a lot of cases. The weather channel app has a cool covid map. That’s why I worry about Jody.

Tracy, glad you are staying healthy after your travels. So far from what I’ve seen on my airline tickets is that they’ll need to be used by December. Me and bff have no desire to go to Disney because it’ll be packed. If we have to use the tickets I’m thinking Hawaii for us to have some beach fun and to stay with my brother but I’d really prefer a refund!

I have done Peloton, and the cardio dance class peloton debuted, it was fun. Heck I even did some yoga because there was a challenge....those challenges motivate me. Planning an outdoor bike ride Tuesday, will have to take a route where I think there will be less people out.
