Strength in Numbers

Janie Great job on Total Body Sculpting. I don't think I have that one.....Thanks for the strong cardio wishes, I think they worked! Great job on Hiit 30/30 with the phone call in the middle :D I guess that made for a nice little recovery, huh?! I question some of those met values in workout manager. Some of the really tough ones seem to have awfully low met values listed.....

Saturday Carl had a track meet and it was about a 45 minute drive for us, so I took Saturday as a rest day. Carl's relay team was hoping to qualify for State's at this meet and they probably would have, but the top 7 teams got DQed. The woman who was telling the next runner when to go out on the track for the baton mis-counted and sent them all out a lap early! The guys told her it was not time and she yelled at them and told them to get out there so they did :( That was pretty disappointing for them. Then he needed a 10:05 in the 2 mile and got a 10:10 so not a happy day for him overall. I think he may have already qualified for the 2 mile though. Yesterday morning was GS back, shoulders and biceps. I am really really feeling that I took a few weeks off from lifting!! Then I added on core #2. This morning was the dreaded X77 but it went fine. I think she ordered the segments just right so that you can get through it. I was still quite happy when it was over though :D Happy Monday ladies!

So Saturday we took our dogs to the vet for checkups. Then we ran some errands and did some chores around the house. Sunday I did Get Glutes. After that we took a little trip to see DH’s brother for his son’s 1st birthday that we missed last Sunday. This morning I did X52.

Janie Great job on TBS! Looks like you are enjoying your rotation and workouts. That is awesome. Great job on 30/30! I think you did a good job calculating estimated calories buned.

Pam Great job on GS BSB + core 2 and then X77 in its entirety (so amazed you can get through the whole thing)! Oh that is a bummer about Carl’s meet. I think that lady should get DQed from doing events anymore. It is not fair to punish participants who are just following orders.

Have a great day!

I use the Workout Manager for a gauge. During some exercises Cathe uses two risers and the met let say is 8 for 60 min. and lets say the calories burned is 600 or more. For me there is no way I could use two risers, instead, at this point in my exercising, I would only use the topper. So what I've done is minus 2 mets and it would be 6. The calories would go down a lot too. Also how long you do this exercise might only be 30 min. Again it will make the calorie burn a lot less. I don't know how they work the calories math wise but it would significantly change. Also If I'm feeling not quite up to Cathe's moves then I would again lower the met value by .50 or more. That would bring the calories burned even lower.

When I did Hiit-30/30 I only did it for 25 min. I was right along with Cathe a met value of 6.50. If I had did the full 30 min. the calories burned, according to the Workout Manager, would have been 240 instead of my 200.

I think I'm doing OK with my thinking, but please if it's faulty in any way let me know. There might be something I'm not considering. Especially if it would make a big difference. L:DL Whew! I guess I rely on this more than I thought.

Will come back later after I did my exercise for the day. See ya tonight.

Pam, Great job on Sat. rest day and went to Carl's track meet. What is wrong with that woman. They shouldn't have been penalized because of her wrong doing. Damn, how frustrating! I blame her for his stress and most likely not getting the 10:10 he needed. Hopefully they will pick a more qualified woman next time. Great job on yesterday's GS back, shoulders and biceps with the addition of core 2. Also for this mornings X77. I think you are doing well.

Julie, Good for you taking care of your animals, chores and errands. And all on a Sat. too. Great job on Sun. Get Glutes. First birthdays are so special, I'm sure you had fun. Also for doing this mornings X52.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Yesterday was a rest day. Last month I contacted an Art Group here in Shelton and left a message and today today they gave me a call to come join them in some weaving. So I did. It was so much fun! There was even some show and tell. Oh My, I have to tell ya, there are some fantastic artists here. There is even one that doesn't even know how good she it. Wow! High Step Circuit tonight. I pretty much kept up with Cathe until the last two exercises. Then I just kept going at my pace. After it was over I was spent! LOL

I did get some info on the workout manager calorie burn. It doesn't work that well. Oh well, will have to invest in a heart monitor.

Janie

Julie Great job on Sunday's GG and yesterday's X52. I'm thinking you can do X77, it really isn't as intimidating as it seems! I really felt like they should have let those teams re-run at the end of the meet or something, but of course my vote doesn't count!

Janie Well I'm no expert, but your logic makes sense to me. I'm not sure how they determine the calorie burns in workout manager though, since they can vary considerably from person to person. It's probably a good overall average though......I agree that the kids should not have been penalized. They really should have let those teams re-run at the end of the meet IMHO. I'm sure that was on his mind when he did the 2 mile also, he is very very focused on his running. What fun that you got to go join the art group for weaving, that sounds like a great time! I am so amazed at some peoples talents (including yours!). Great job on HSC, that is a toughie!!!!

This morning was supposed to be Legs and Glutes from BB series for me, but I don't have that one so I did Leaner Legs instead. It's the same length and WM shows it to be a little higher intensity, so it seemed like a good sub. It was a nice short one but really works the legs! Have a great day!

Pam

This morning I did Get Glutes. After that I did HiiT DWP. Made it all the way through DWP without pausing but man am I pooped now.

Janie Great job on High Step Circuit! I love my heart rate monitor and would feel lost without it. I don’t take the calories burned at face value for it either. I figure it is just an estimate but I would venture to say it is more accurate than the workout manager. Glad to see you are finding more artists in the area to get involved with.

Pam Great job on Leaner (Meaner) Legs! I love LL because of all the deadlifts. I have a feeling if I attempted X77 it would take me a lot longer than 77 minutes because I would have to pause a lot to catch my breath. I have been doing X52 for a few weeks and it almost always takes me 60 minutes because of having to pause and catch my breath.

Have a great day!

Tonight was 25-30 min. of the Wedding video. I had Yoga for today but wanted some cardio instead.

Pam, Great job on Leaner legs and for a really good substitute.

Julie, Great job on Get Glutes and HiiT DWP. I bet you are pooped!

Take care everyone,

Janie

Julie Great job on GG and DWP with no pauses! Those heavy duty cardios really do wear you out don't they?! I have found every time I've done X77 that I'm really worried during the first segment because I get really really tired, but then I get some wind back when she gets to weights and I'm able to push on. It certainly isn't easy though!!!!

Janie Great job on the wedding video. I know what you mean about wanting to do cardio, I was in the same boat today.

Cheryl I hope you are doing well!

This morning was supposed to be GS Chest and Triceps and I was kind've bummed about that because I was expecting cardio. So I did the first 2 rounds of Tabatacise and then did GSCT. The chest work was super hard for me today, not sure if that was because of doing Tabatacise first or if I was just weak today. I did get through it but I was making a lot of noise! Does anyone else besides me sometimes do a video that you've done many times and hope that just this once Cathe will do fewer sets?;) That's how I was feeling today. My chest is sore already, can't wait until tomorrow

Pam

So no workout today for me. I had the hardest time falling asleep last night, tossed and turned all night, and then woke up 2 hours before my alarm went off. I got back to sleep a little before the alarm went off and when it did I just couldn’t get up. I had Cycle Max on schedule for today so am bummed I didn’t get my spin workout in. Oh well, tomorrow will be a better day.

Janie Great job on the Wedding Video! Sounds like your foot is doing great if you were up for cardio instead of yoga. I wish I had the opposite feeling and was up for yoga instead of cardio sometimes.

Pam Great job on 2 rounds of tabatacise and GS CST! That is so funny about wishing Cathe would do less sets this time. I don’t know that I have but I have all Cathe’s workouts in a log book that tell me how many sets, reps, and what kinds (low ends, pulses) to expect . I don’t seem to get the wind back during weight work. It all works me hard. Pushups are especially hard for me to keep up with Cathe and immediately go into the next move. With the superset of air squats to 16 pushups done twice in Fat Burning Circuit, I always pause because I cannot go from air squats to pushups and back to air squats that fast without passing out.

Have a great day!

Tonight was Upper and Lower body workouts and Stability Abs.

Pam, Great job on the first 2 rounds of Tabatacise and GSCT. I bet doing Tabatacise made for a harder workout. Oh yeah, I make noises when working out sometimes even a few choice words. LOL

Julie, Awe. I'm so sorry to hear about insomnia. It's so frustrating! Yes, tomorrow will be a better day. Oh yes, my foot is healing nicely now. I have yoga schedule for tomorrow. I really want to do the plow. I have a feeling it's won't happen, but soon it will. Have you ever heard of acupressure mat or the massage mat? I just purchased one from Heavenly at Amazon. It feels like being on a bed of nails. I lye my back/tummy, and I sleep just like a baby at night. I think it's helping me anyway. Also working out with Cathe makes me sleep like a baby too. Anyhoo, you might want to think about it.

Acupressure mat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are 8,820 little spikes all together which makes it better enduring than other mats. There are other brands but make sure there are that many spikes. I know it sounds awful and it is, but man you sleep at night! My body is tolerating 30 min so far on my back and tummy. I think that's plenty. You can go 20 min. and that is just fine.

Take care,

Janie

Julie So sorry to hear about you sleepless night, that is sooooo frustrating. And of course, the more you think about it, the worse it gets. Sorry you missed your CM, but hopefully last night was better and you were able to get it in this morning. Well, I don't get my wind back from push ups either, they really wind me. But if it's more 'normal' weight work, that is like a little recovery for me. I hate that superset with air squats into pushups! I also hate the round where we do the overhead triceps into the kickback planks. Can't remember what that is in, but it kills me! Pausing is definitely better than passing out!!! :p

Janie Great job on Upper and Lower body stability Abs!! Wow, that seems like a lot! That acupressure mat looks very interesting? You aren't saying that you sleep on it, right? You lay on it or awhile before bed? I might want to check those out!! Very interesting. I'm not sure I like the part about lying on a bed of nails though...I do like the part about sleeping like a baby! :D

This morning I had Supercuts on the calendar so I did the Supercuts plus core 1 premix. I was tempted to do the premix that was supercuts + core 1 with no su/pu combo, but I toughed it out and included that too. It was not easy doing core number 1 after that combo though  I hope everyone has a great day!

Pam

Much better sleep last night. So much so that I didn’t want to get up but I did. I did Get Glutes and added on Farmers Walks and extra back work. It looks like today is going to be one of those full of meetings and getting no work done. UGH!!

Janie Great job on Upper and Lower + SB abs! Hmm! That mat sounds interesting but I don’t understand how laying on it for 20 minutes helps with sleep. I think I need to do some research on that. Go slow with the plow and it will come in time.

Pam Great job on Supercuts + core 1! Good for you on toughing out the su/pu combo. It is tough but I think it is good to do (occasionally not all the time). I like the idea of sleeping like a baby too but not sure about the bed of nails. I have been having big problems with sweating at night lately and I am not sure why or what to do about it. If I push the covers off, I freeze. If I pull them over me, I sweat. Maybe I need to stop complaining!

Have a great day!

Today was Yoga Foundation 2. I'm a tab bit better with the plow. Not suppose to push it, just let it happen when my body is ready.

Pam, No, I don't sleep on the mat, but use it 20-30 min. before bed. It seems to work on my insomnia. Very restful unwaken sleep since I've been using it. It's a love hate relationship for me at this point. Depends I guess how much I want to sleep at night. I hear people tolerate it more and more by using it daily. Great job on this mornings Supercuts and core 1 premix and including no su/pu combo. Wow, you rock! Good for you.

Julie, Wanted to share with you about acupuncture mats for insomnia and other ailments. Using it 20-30 min. before bed helps me sleep all during the night. It also helps other ailments such as back pain, circulation... Here is some information I've collected to help understand it. So far it's working for me.

Can Nail Mats Help You Relax? - WSJ.com

Glad to hear you slept well last night. Great job on Get Glutes and the addition of Farmers Walks and extra back work. I hope your day gets better.

Take care everybody,

Janie

Julie So glad to hear that you had a better nights sleep. Sometimes those nights right after a bad night are so nice because you (or at least I) sleep so hard. Great job on GG and Farmers Walks and back work! I hope you survived your day of meetings!!! Meeting Max! I'm with you on the bed of nails, that part doesn't sound too good at all. Your night sweats sound terrible. I usually put one leg out from under the blankets and that tends to help me with some of the temperature control issues.

Janie Great job on YF2, I know you will get there with the plow. Good for you for not trying to push it too hard though. I am impressed with your dedication! The mat is very intriguing. I read a little more about it after you posted that link. Do keep us informed, I'm still mulling, mainly because of that bed of nails thing! It would be worth it if it makes you sleep so well though.

This morning for me was GS Back, shoulders and biceps. These GS's are working my poor lazy muscles for sure! Happy happy Friday, I'm ready for the weekend!

Pam

I got pretty good sleep last night again (yea!!). I actually woke up 15 minutes before my alarm and decided it was best to just get up before I fall back asleep and don’t want to get up. I ended up doing the band & bodyweight workout from Get Glutes and added on Tabatacise. I actually made it much farther in Tabatacise before having to take a mini break and took less than normal. Yea!

Janie Great job on YF2 and working that plow! That is a good philosophy to live by for all forms of exercise: don’t push it, let it happen when the body is ready. I hope one day I can follow that without thinking about it. Thanks for the article. Very interesting. I might look into it further. Wonder if it would help with night sweats?

Pam Great job on GS BSB! Do I foresee DOMS in your future? LOL on Meeting Max! The name not that it happens occasionally. I have tried putting one leg out but then that one gets cold and I bring it back under. I have tried sleeping on a towel and that has helped a little. If anything, I can sleep on the towel until that gets soaked then take the towel away and soak up the sheets!

Happy Friday!!!

I'm at the beach house for a couple of weeks. Rolly and I walked the beach for about an hour today. It was so beautiful and in the 50's. Tonight was the Wedding Video weight lifting. Love the high reps this time.

Pam, The acupressure mat feels like a bed of nails in the beginning. But I'm on my 2nd week and it's (believe it or not) starting to be more tolerable. Even pleasant. Hmmmmm. Did it for 30 min. tonight right after the weight workout and then a nice hot bath. I love baths. Great job on GS back, shoulders and biceps. Have a happy weekend. I am looking at those beautiful plates you made me.

Julie, So glad you are getting better sleep. Great job on Get Glutes, band and body weight and the addition of Tabatacise. Congratulations for making it much farther in the Tabatacise. Very proud of you. Hmmmmmm, don't know if the acupressure mat would help with night sweats. I'll research it and let you know.

Update: I did only a little research and I'm not finding anything if these mats can help with night sweats. If I could guess, I would think not. Only because it draws the blood to the surface of your skin. Don't know for sure though if it would work or not. These mats aren't that expensive so you might want to try it. Remember, you won't be menopause forever, you do cool off. Eventually. So I guess if the mat doesn't work now, it will later. Needs more research, I'm just guessing. Let me know what you find out.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Julie so glad you got another good sleep. You must have to get up and tackle GG AND Tabatacise! Wow, great job! I did have DOMS from GSs, but not as bad as last week so I grids that's a good thing.......

Janie I'm so glad that you are at the beach and getting some nice weather. Great job on your nice long walk and wedding video weights! Ok, you are really tempting me with the acu-pressure mat. Hmmmmmmmmm......the long hot bath afterwards sounds great too!
Good job listening to. Your body too!

Yesterday I did Flex Train. I really like to at one, but Cathe always has to get you with something. She kills the triceps in that one at the end. No we are on the road taking Ashley back to school so today is a rest day for me. Have a great weekend.

Pam

This morning for me was Super Cuts and Yoga inspired abs. I am not getting any better at the su/pu combo but am sure having to do it a lot in this rotation! Good news for Carl this weekend. His relay team qualified for States on Saturday and he ran the fastest leg, so the DQ last weekend isn't as hard to take now. I can't believe how fast the weekend went! When we went to bed last night I asked my DH if we really had a weekend! We don't get a holiday for MLK day, but at least it was an easy commute today because so many people do!. Have a great day ladies.

Pam

Saturday I did some cleaning and ran errands. Sunday was GG: TGU 3x2@12; JDL 1x8@80, 2x5@90; SLHT 3x15@BW superset w/ AHT 3x8@185,195,205; pu/row combo 2x9@25 superset w/band seated abduction holds 2x15 sec.; rack/overhead carry holds 2x60 sec. @ 23. Then it was lazy day Sunday. This morning I did Supercuts.

Janie Yea! So happy you are at the beach house and can get walks in with Rolly! Great job on the Wedding Video weights! Well I added the acupressure mat to my Amazon wishlist but haven’t made the jump to actually ordering it yet. I unfortunately am not in menopause or even peri-menopause so my night sweats are not related. I did some research and I think it is because I have high thread count sheets. Great job on taking those rest days!

Pam Great job on FT! Hope Ashley got all settled and ready for school again. Hehe, looks like we did the same workout this morning. Only I did not add on yoga inspired abs. I was having a horrible time with the pu/su combo. Really sucking wind and wanting to go to my knees on the pushups (and just lie there on the situps). That is awesome news for Carl. Good luck to him and his team at State! We don’t get MLK day off either. Sometimes I wish I had a government job so I could more days off.

Have a great day!
