Strength in Numbers

I ended up not having my family over. DH had some stomach problems and a headache. I did do All Out LIH Extreme premix on Thursday morning and then was bad with my eating pretty much all day. Oh well, as long as it doesn’t happen every day, right? This morning I did some Gorgeous Glute work and back work. Still working on those chin ups.

Pam Oh man! I’m sorry about your cold. That is no fun ever but during the summer and over a holiday … YUCK! I don’t know that they are really double workouts. The GG workouts really only take about 30 minutes so I can easily add on to them. Still getting up at the same time, 3:30 which is plenty early enough. Sleeping in yesterday was wonderful and I think that is what gave me the energy to go extreme on AOLIH. Great job on STS Total Body! Hope you feel better so you can kick Intensity’s butt!

Cheryl Great job on HS cardio and core! I think getting up early every other day is a good plan. After a while you might be able to add in another day of early workouts. I missed not seeing my family but in the end I think it was a good thing. I had a terribly stressful day at work and ended up getting home around 6 that night and would have been stressed trying to get the house in order and food ready by 7 for my family.

Have a great day!

Julie Too bad that you couldn't have your family over, but by the sound of it you would have been really stressed to get everything ready. There will be another time when things will be less stressed and you can enjoy it more. Good job on AOLIH extreme premix and Gorgeous Glute and back work.

This morning I went for my blood work (I had to fast) and then got my large 4 litre container for my 24 hour urine analysis. When I got home I had something to eat and then did XTrain Chest, Back and Shoulders. Then got housework done and went and got kitty litter. I couldn't really go out and do a lot of running around today since every time I have to pee I have to get it in the container, I can't miss any . Tomorrow I have to bring it back to the lab and have another blood test done. It was such a fun day.

I'm home! It's so beautiful in the Hawaiian Islands. It's like a different planet from where I live. LOL

Joey's brother died the day before we got to The Hawaiian Islands. His funeral was the following Mon. and when Joe and I were in this beautiful place in Maui we prayed, cried and remembered this wonderful spirit of a man at the same time as the people in MI were giving the funeral for him. Rest In Peace Walt McBride. You will be remembered for your generosity, kindness... and so many more attributes that made YOU. Wished there were more people on earth like you.

I've read all the inputs and I'm glad everyone is still working out as best you can. I DIDN'T! LOL However we did do a lot of walking, hiking swimming and beach combing.
Here are just a few photos of where we stayed. Imagine a 6,700 sq. foot house. Yep, no mistake it was a 6,700 sq. foot house with 5 master bedrooms with a lanai for each one. Also the house had a swimming pool with a jacuzzi...an so much more. I also heard Cher and The Dixie Chicks stayed there as well. Can you believe that?!? It's called Bali Hale near Lahaina in Maui. That's a mouthful! LOL Amazing place.

This was our bedroom

407150966.jpg

This was our outside shower (all the bedrooms have this). It also has a lounge chair and many other wonderful things I can't show in one photo.

407150967.jpg

This was the lanai off our bedroom.

407150968.jpg

Swimming pool with jacuzzi at sunset. Can you see the ocean? It was almost all the way around us! 180 degrees!

This was so amazing and a once in a life time opportunity the kids did for Joey's 75th birthday. They do love us don't they? Wow!

I'm not doing a workout today. Instead just catching up and trying to get back in sync.

Just had to share this wonderful memory with you all.

Take care ladies. It's so good to be back home and to be back at the forums!

Cheryl Great job on Hard strikes and core number 1! the darn cold got worse, but i am almost over it now and sitting at the airport waiting for my flight. I don't blame you for sleeping a little later after a 4 am morning!

Julie Sorry to hear your DH wasn't feeling well, I hope he is better now. Great job on AOLIH and GG and back work. Yep, we all have bad eating days every so often. You are right, as long as it is only every once in While then no problem!

Cheryl Great job on XTrain Chest, back and shoulders and getting your housework done! Oh lovely about the urine container, I never even thought about having to stay close to home  At least you have it done now!

JanieBig hugs to you and Joey on the less of his brother. It must have been very hard being so far away when he passed, but hopefully the beautiful and peaceful scenery helped with starting the healing process. What an absolutely amazing place you stayed, wow!! That must hA just been awesome to wake up to every morning! Oh I loved Maui, did you do the road to Hana?
What an amazing birthday gift!! So happy to have you back though!

So my holiday weekend didn't end up being much of a holiday at all. A project that I was trying to get done on Wednesday didn't get finished because I had so many issues with the software I was using. Then Thursday I woke up feeling really bad, fever, headache, sore throat and couldn't talk without coughing. I went to an urgent care and found out I had bronchitis  I got a RX for antibiotics and some cough medicine and luckily that kicked in right away. By that afternoon I was feeling much better. I still pretty much just laid around on Thursday and tried getting that software working again. Friday morning I felt good enough to try a workout (but not Itensity!) so I did Step Moves And it went well. I spent most of the rest of Friday working on that project and having more software issues -ugh! I even felt good enough that we skiied Friday night. Saturday morning i did feel up to Intensity so I was happy about that :) Then I spent a few hours in the office and finally got the recording done for that project, then spent the rest of the afternoon editing it. At least it is done though! I didn't workout this morning and now am sitting a the airport waiting for my flight. I'm not sure if I'll get any workouts in this week or not, but will try to check in. Have a great week if I don't!

Pam

This morning was Total Body Sculpting and in the afternoon was Low Impact Step. All in all, a great time with workouts today.

Pam, Thank you for your condolences about Joey's brother, we appreciate that more than you know. I didn't hear anything about the road to Hana. I have a feeling I missed something special.

So sorry about your so called holiday. But so very glad that everything was able to get done. Sounds like you had a horrible case of bronchitis. antibiotics are miracles aren't' they? Great job on Step Moves. You amaze me how quickly you got better. Wow and skiing on Friday? Wow. And by Saturday feeling better enough to do Intensity. Good for you! Looking forward to your check ins. Have a safe flight.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Janie So sorry about the loss of Joey's brother. It is hard when you are far away. What a beautiful place that you stayed in. It would be so cool to have an outdoor shower.

Pam That sucks that you got bronchitis, but those antibiotics sure do help. Good work on Step Moves skiing and Intensity. Enjoy you week away. I believe that it was London that you were going to? Oh computer problems, that just makes your day doesn't it .

Janie Good job on Total Body Sculpting and Low Impact Step. You are getting back into the groove.

Well yesterday I did Cardio Legs and then went and got some plants for the garden. This morning I didn't get anything done as we left early for the flea market. I got some cherries, blueberries and raspberries and some more plants. Then we stopped in on my parents and then came home and did some more planting. I took tomorrow off as I need to get Tigger in to get his lion cut. It has been hot here so I know he will be a very happy cat after it is done.

Have a great day everyone.

Cheryl

Saturday I helped my mom organize some things at her new house. She still has so much unpacking left to do. I think I will be helping her for quite a few more weekends. Sunday I did some GG work and PS Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps. Then it was lazy day and a Bones marathon with DH. This morning I did Tabatacize and tacked on PS Biceps and Abs. I was doing good with Tabatacize until about midway through round 4 and then my energy started going downhill fast. I did take some extra “mini” breaks so that I didn’t keel over!

Cheryl Great job on XT CBS! Oh boy that does not sound like fun having to do that urine test. Great job on Cardio Legs and all your running around. Yumm! Those cherries and berries sound delicious. I hope everything went well with your tests. When will you find something out? I bet Tigger will be such a cool kitty after his haircut!

Janie Welcome back! So sorry about Joey’s brother. I think that was very nice of you to have your own memorial service at the same time as the funeral. Sounds like you got some physical activity in with all the hiking, swimming and beach combing. What a beautiful house and beautiful pictures and memories to go along with it. Great job on TBS and LIS!

Pam Wow! Bronchitis doesn’t sound good. I’m glad you got some medicine and it worked so quickly for you. Great job on Step Moves and Intensity! How frustrating to have so many software problems when working on a deadline for a project. I’m glad you got it done but what a pain to have to do it when you should be having fun on a day off. Enjoy your trip!

Have a great day!

This afternoon I did Basic Step plus Lower body weight add on. Need to work on my foundation, so starting from the beginning in order to get to the harder DVD's. It's a combination of not doing exercise consistently and getting older. That's what happens when I slack off. I'll get there for sure from the basics on up. At least I don't have to learn anything new. LOL I've been pretty good staying at about 130-135 pounds, but would still someday like to weigh 125 pounds and feel good at that weight. We'll see.

Cheryl, Well, I'm trying to get back into the groove, I've slipped for reasons stated above. However, I have new motivation since I've come back from our trip and see myself getting stronger and stronger again. Great job on Cardio Legs. Ooooo your Garden plants sounds wonderful. You will for sure enjoy them. Give Tigger a hug for me. I bet he will feel wonderful after his hair cut.

Julie, Great job with the GG work and PS Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps. OOOOOO Joey and I love Bones as well. Great job on this mornings Tabatacize with the added PS Biceps and Abs. Good for YOU! Good to listen to your body and do mini breaks. It's safe that way as you know, especially when your body is running down.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Julie It takes forever to unpack. Part of the problem is trying to find new places where everything will go. Good work on GG and PS Chest, Shoulds and Triceps. Nothing wrong with taking extra mini breaks on tabatacize that is a toughie. The lab work will probably come back in about a week and then I need to find time to get back over to the doctor.

Janie Good work on Basic Step and the lower body weight add on. You are like me staying around 130-135 but want to be at 125, as that is where I feel good too. Did you see Cathe's article today about menopause and how it affects where you gain fat and what you can do about it? This is something I have seen happen to me in the past year. Very fustrating.

So today I did a premix for Kick, Punch and Crunch as I didn't have a whole lot of time before I needed to get Tigger in for his shave. After that it was a lot of running around getting some things done. Below are a few pictures of him and yes he was a very happy kitty.

This morning I did some Gorgeous Glute work and then did Pure Strength Back. I am in the last week of the first 4 week cycle of Gorgeous Glute workouts. There are 3 workouts, A, B, and C that you do each week. This cycle had workouts A and B as high rep exercise sets. I was smiling at the end of my workout today because I am done with those high rep workout sets. The rest of the program is all reps in the 8-12 range which is my sweet spot. I don’t know why but I just don’t get motivated knowing that I have to do 3 sets of 20 reps of any exercise and when they are single leg exercises on top of that … UGH!!

Janie Great job on Basic Step + the Lower Body add on! I like your plan to start off with the basics and work your way back up. You will get to those harder DVDs someday I am sure. And if you decide you like it at the beginning and want to stay there, at least you are doing something.

Cheryl Great job on KPC premix! Aww! Tigger is adorable! So do they shave him bald along his body or leave a little fuzz there? Hope you got everything done in your running around. I figure taking those mini breaks is better than stopping completely or avoiding the workout as a whole. I do enjoy Tabatacize and HiiT but just can’t get through them without those mini breaks.

Have a great day!

Today was a rest day, and I went shopping for healthy food, nuts and oils. Also went to Costco and shopped there mainly for seafood, chicken breasts and fruit and vegies. It was so hot! It was in the mid 80's. Put everything away when I got home. I searched the internet on how to make homemade sunscreen because I'm very skeptical of the lotions in the stores. I have already bought non nano zinc oxide and made some for my Joey. However, when he puts it on he will look like a living dead person. Still, it is safe and may help with his reoccurring spouts of skin cancer. I also made him a soap with eggplant and vinegar that suppose to help prevent skin cancer as well about six months ago. With the soap it's suppose to be used daily. He doesn't. So, I feel good by researching what I can do to try and help him and doing something about it. Wished I'd remembered the zinc oxide before now, but at least it's happening now.

Cheryl, I did see Cathe's article. I'm already doing what it says, but still on occasion, I go off it, it's very hard sometimes. I'll never have a slim waist line, but I do feel healthier eating the way I should. Yep, getting older and aging is definitely not for the faint of heart. But there is no way around it, sadly. Great job on premix for KP&C. Love Tigger's looks, and he seems very happy indeed.:D

Julie, Great job on Gorgeous Glute work and Pure Strength Back. You are almost done with the first 4 week cycle rotation. Yea! Very proud of you! I will be doing Cathe's 3 mo. Beginners Rotation. Then I'll do a month of intermediate then I should be back where I belong doing the more advanced DVD's without injury. Yep, I like this plan. I think just before the holidays I'll be there. Of course the new DVD's I'll have to try with lots of modifications. How can I not? LOL:D

Take care ladies,

Janie

Janie Great job on Total Body Sculpting AND LIS in the same day - wow! Well the road to Hana is very nice, but Maui is pretty hard to beat in general. Yes, my so called holiday is right! I think between working and being sick I should get a do-over. I was surprised at how quickly I recovered too, and relieved. So was the guy that I am teaching the class with :)

Cheryl I was lucky that I had the type of bronchitis that can be treated with antibiotics, if it had been viral they wouldn't have helped. Oh yes, computer issues are the story of my life  that is what happens when you work with software. Great job on cardio legs! Your fruit sounds wonderful, fresh cherries are my favorite. I saw your pictures of Tigger on facebook and he looks so cute. He does look happy too, Butters just hated it when we did it to him!

Julie Oh yes, moving in is a never ending job. It's great that you are there to help with the unpacking. Great job on GG, PS Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps, Tabatacize AND PS Biceps and Abs. You are a machine. Don't worry about those mini breaks, that is much better than keeling over!! Yes, I wasn't too excited with my holiday weekend being taken over with illness and work, but I won't feel so bad the next time I slack off. ;):p

Janie Great job on Basic Step and Lower body weight. You will definitely get there. It's really annoying how quickly you lose it compared to how long it takes to build up endurance and fitness levels, isn't it?! I think we all always want to be just a few pounds lighter, no matter what our weight is. It's the curse of being a female.

Cheryl Great job on KPC and running around.

Julie Great job on GG PS Back! I agree, I would much rather do sets with 8-12 reps than those long sets. The muscle endurance type workouts are not my favorites.Oh and then doing them single legs, yuck!

Janie It sounds like you got some great things at Costco. You are so impressive making your own sunscreen. I sure hope it helps with Joeys skin cancer . You are so sweet and thoughtful!

I took Sunday as a rest day and really didn't do a lot other than getting packed and ready for the trip. The flight wasn't too bad but I had a hard time getting comfortable to sleep. I must've slept more than I thought though, because I woke up and they were serving breakfast. Monday I came to the lab and made sure that everything was ready for the class. It was a beautiful day so we decided to do a little sightseeing. We walked a little and then took the tube down near the London Eye (the big ferris wheel) and walked along the Thames. Then we went for Indian food for dinner and by the time dinner was over I was pooped. I doubt I will get any workouts in while I'm here. I can't do them in my room because it is too small and the gym is in another building. Plus the commute to work takes about an hour, so I'm preferring just sleeping and getting up in time to get ready :eek: The weather is just perfect right now, although we are only getting outside to go grab some lunch or walking between train, bus and tube stations! Glad to see that everyone is doing well, I'll check in again when I can.

Pam

This morning I so was not wanting to work out. I lay in bed for a few extra minutes trying to talk myself into going back to sleep. I did get up and I did Rhythmic Step but I felt like my legs were moving through mud.

Janie Well you had a productive day! You are such a good wife to not only research what you can do to help Joey but then to actually take the time to make those things for him to use. That is a very good plan and I completely understand about not being to not try the new DVDs. I am sure you will be able to give them a go with modifications. Modifications are a good thing.

Pam Sounds like your trip is going nicely. The weather being great is nice. Hopefully you will find more time to walk and sightsee. I have never been to London but I bet it would be awesome to see. Hope your trip continues to go well and you have a peaceful flight home.

Have a great day!

Just finished with Basic Step plus upper body hand weight add on. So glad I decided to start from the beginning. It's so cool not to have to modify at all! Before, I was truly struggling and modifying so much, it was sad:(. I was to stubborn and my pride wouldn't allow me to start over after my elbow injury. Now I'm on the right track and feel so energetic already and will take my time getting to where I was. Should be (before my elbow injury) up to par just before the Holidays, but after Halloween. Yes!

Pam, Thanks to muscle memory it won't take but a few months or so to get back before my tennis elbow episode. It's not too long and so well worth it already. I hope my concoctions work too. You never know, I can only hope. Glad you can sleep on a plane. I've tried and there is no way. LOL At least you got a little needed sleep. Aw your sightseeing and riding that big ferris wheel sounds amazing! I'll have to look up Thames. I love Indian food, lucky you. Enjoy! Don't worry about not being able to exercise. Just think of it as a break and while you are walking and site seeing think of that as your active recovery. LOL Looking forward to your check ins.

Julie, Great job on this mornings Rhythmic Step. I know the feeling of not wanting to exercise when the comfortable bed is so inviting. Maybe moving in mud feeling was you needed a little more sleep. Proud of you for doing what you did.

Take care everyone,

Janie

This morning I felt like I had more energy (no muddy legs) but it was still hard to get out of bed. Maggie was snuggled up with me resting her head on my shoulder and I just wanted to stay like that. But she helped get me up because after a few minutes she got up and turned around. Guess that was her gently nudging me to get up and do Supercuts which I love doing! Of course I slowed Cathe down on the su/pu combo.

Janie Great job on BS + upper body! I love that you are listening to your body and getting a plan in order. I know I personally have to have a rotation scheduled out or I will not stick to working out. If I were to rely on just waking up and picking something, I would pick sleeping.

Have a great day!

The rotation called for One segment from Total Body Stretching plus I did an extra 20 min. of Christi Taylor Humble Beginning Step. Took advantage of my energy level today. The stretching felt sooooooooooo good.

Julie, Great job on getting out of bed and doing Supercuts and slowing Cathe down as needed. YOu are so lucky to have that ability. Our player doesn't do that. I'm glad there are rotations out there for reasons you stated. Aren't we lucky to have Cathe. LOL

Take care,

Janie

Julie Good work on your gorgeous glute work and PS Back. I don't like high rep work either, I prefer the 8 - 12 rep range as well. Tigger still does have a bit of fuzz on his body. He really likes it when he gets it done even the girl who does it put in his chart that he is a really good cat.

Janie It has been hot here. I haven't slept well in days. You are so good finding out how to make your own sunscreen and soap for Joey. I am trying to do what Cathe's article says but your are right it is hard. I used to have a slim waistline but no more :(.

Pam You did recover quickly but that is good. It is probably due to your healthy lifestyle that you recovered that fast. Tigger just loves it when we get him shaved, well not going to the vet initially but afterwards he is in heaven. Enjoy your time in London. I hope everything goes well with your sessions.

Julie Good for you in getting up and doing Rhythmic Step even though your legs felt like they were moving through mud.

Janie Good job with Basic Step and upper body weight add on. It was a good idea to start from the beginning and work your way up again.

Julie I remember the days when I could push myself out of bed even when I was tired and workout. Good job on Supercuts.

Well I haven't been able to push myself to workout like Julie has. I haven't slept in several days because it has been so hot here. Monday night I couldn't get comfortable at all everything felt hot and all I did was toss and turn. So I haven't done a workout since Monday. I want to workout but my body has other plans. I did try getting up and trying to start but I could't get through the warm up. Oh I wish for the days in my 30s when it didn't bother me. Now that I am in my 50s and in menopause it is a whole lot harder (sigh). I will try again tomorrow.

Cheryl

Julie Great job getting up and doing your muddy workout. Those mud runs are really in so you were just fitting in with the craze :p At least RS is a fun one. The trip is going pretty well, although yesterday was a tough day because our lab machines were acting up. We don't have any more lectures to do today, they are just doing lab exercises so it's a nice break for us. As long as the lab machines cooperate that is! I really like London. I used to come here quite a bit for work, but it's been a long time since I was here last. Thanks for the wishes for a peaceful flight. I'm hoping for no kid behind me playing with his tray table the whole flight like I had on the way here...

Janie Great job on BS and upper body hand weight add on. I so know what you mean about the modifying and struggling. Even though you are working hard it makes you feel defeated. At least that's how I feel when I do the horizontal conditioning workouts (which is why I haven't done one in ages). Good for you for putting yourself on a better plan. I'm so glad to hear you are feeling so well! Well my sightseeing hasn't been at all strenuous so I'm not sure about the active part, but I will consider this recovery at least ;)

Julie Glad to hear that your muddy legs went away. Great job on getting p and doing your workout despite your cuddle buddy. That would be very hard to pull yourself away from. Great job on Supercuts and the drunken su/pu combo!

Janie Great job on TBS and you Christi Taylor step. So glad your energy levels are returning!!!

Cheryl Thanks for the wishes. Things are going ok here, but as I told Julie, yesterday was a tough day due to weird problems with our lab machines  We got through it though!
Oh ick, sorry that the heat is keeping you awake. It is so hard to sleep when it is really hot. I know what you mean about those days when you could get up and work out no matter what. These days I need a good solid sleep!

So as I was telling Julie and Cheryl, yesterday was a tough day. We had all kinds of problems with our lab machines, and they were weird things that we have never seen before and couldn't really explain. Luckily everyone in the class has been pretty understanding about that, but as the instructor I always feel embarrassed and responsible. I think we will probably be done fairly early this afternoon so hopefully I will get to do some sightseeing. I'll be on my own though as my colleague from Germany goes home tonight. I had planned to go see Dirty Dancing the musical as I saw it was opening tonight and there were tickets still available. When I went to buy a ticket though I realized I had the date wrong and it doesn't open until tomorrow  oh well. Last night we took the tube to Piccadilly circus and walked to Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey and then stopped into a really beautiful pub for a drink. I am looking forward to going home tomorrow though. I hope you all have a great Friday!

Pam

This morning I did Georgeous Glute work and added on some back work too. This weekend I am going to help my mom some more with unpacking. She is also giving DH and I a home gym system that she has had for 20 years and never uses. So DH and I will have to clean out space in our 3rd bedroom/spare room for it but I am excited as I will be able to lat pulldowns and cable work with it.

Janie Great job on Humble Beginning Step and TBS! Your comment about stretching reminded me that I have been so bad with it lately. Since I am not doing Cathe for lower body anymore I tend to “forget” that I need to stretch my legs out. Gotta work on that.

Cheryl I hope the weather turns around for you and starts to cool off. I had a couple of bad nights a few weeks ago where I would wake up drenched in sweat and that is very unlike me. That hot, sticky, sweaty feeling is ok when working out but not when trying to sleep. Being younger and not dealing with menopause probably helps me in being able to get up even on restless sleep nights. I wish I had words of wisdom for you but all I can offer is my wishes for you to get the cool relief and restful nights of sleep you deserve and need.

Pam Too funny about the mud run analogy! I’ll have to remember that the next time I am stumbling over my step because my legs feel weighed down. We had someone training my area on new software and he said “the first rule of training on new software is that something is going to go wrong.” I know that has to be frustrating and as you said embarrassing. I don’t know that when those things happen that I have thought anything bad about the instructor though. What a bummer about Dirty Dancing. I bet that would be a good musical. Hope you get some more sightseeing in before you leave!

Have a great day!

Pam That's the problem with technology there is always something that is going to go wrong. I know how you feel about feeling responsible because you are the instructor but anyone in the class that has worked with technology before would understand that it isn't your fault. Enjoy sightseeing and have a safe trip home.

Julie Good work on your georgeous glute and back work. Nice that you are getting a home gym system from your mom. It has cooled off here though it is still nice. Yep not nice to wake up drenched in sweat. I have been sleeping better but getting up early is still really hard.

So I couldn't get going this morning either but I made sure that I did something when I got home. So I did the Tabata premix 1 and 2 plus core 2. I realized that I hadn't done the tabatas for a long time. I will have to work up to doing all of them.

I hope everyone had a great Friday.

Cheryl
