Strength in Numbers

My neck is feeling better, stretching, Aspercreme and Hubby rubbing it for me have helped a lot. :} Hubby is at a Veteran's lunch {he assured me that when men meet its a lunch not a luncheon!} I made another set of fingerless mitts. Ravelry: patchworkpenguin's Snow Flurry Mitts for Me I added a lace pattern to the exsisting mitt pattern which was fun {ha}, the second was easier but the first required silence and complete concentration! Neither of which are my strong points. The weather is back to being chilly today but the rain is gone, which is good! When Hubby gets back we have a list of errands to do!

Pam, Tday crept up on me too! Mom and I usually make plans a month early but we were both behind this year. We switch out but usually have Tday at my house then Christmas at hers. I make half the meal and she brings the other half to each occasion. Got a laugh out of trying to picture the cats/jungle gym comment. :D

So I have been on my crutches now for 5 days and I will tell you if have you have never been on them before they are harder than they look. It takes balance and leg endurance out of my one good leg and forearm strength. I seriously think that if I didn’t work out to Cathe, I would be having so much more trouble. All those 1-legged exercises she does has finally paid off. Anyway, Sunday I did Disc 22, chest, shoulders, and triceps, and this morning I finished out Meso 2 with Disc 24, back and biceps. I had to modify some of the back and biceps work since I can’t do deadlifts and can’t stand up to do barbell curls but I made it work. I think I am going to hold off doing Meso 3 until I am better. It is hard working with a barbell on one leg so I better stick to dumbbell only type workouts.

Janie That’s great that your seeing improvement on the spinning bike. I say give the Express workout a try or just push play and stop when you need to. Love the picture of Joey. You are quite the artist. I bet you could do portraits for money.

Penguin Wow, you have been a busy little bee despite the neck ache. Well I am glad you figured out how you are getting the neck ache but sorry it took injuring it again to figure out. I wonder if you could get a small step stool to get up on the bed. Glad you enjoyed your date night. That is really sweet that DH helped ease your neck pain by giving you neck rubs. My DH poops out after about 5 seconds. Hope you get your list of errands completed after DH's luncheon ... I mean lunch. :D

Pam Great job on your HC workout! 67 minutes sounds brutal. I got the HC DVD you sent me but I won’t be able to use it for a while. Maybe I can incorporate it in with X-Train when I am able to use that. Thanks for sending them to me. I did preview the workouts and they look interesting. So sorry about your lack of sleep last night. Hopefully tonight will be better.

Have a great day!

Today was internet and TV connection at the beach house. Yea. Took him over 5 hours, but it's done and everything es working great. Can't seem to get into exercise today, will try again tomorrow.:(

Pam, I also had every intention to do a Cathe workout and didn't. Different excuse from yours and hope you get a better nights sleep.

Penquin, Glad your neck is feeling better. Let's hope that continues. Really like the fingerless mitts. Thanks for the link. I bet adding the lace makes it even better.

Julie, Glad you are able to be on your crutches. I had no idea that people have to go through that on them. Wow. Makes me appreciate not having to. Great job on disc 22, chest, shoulders and triveps and this mornings Meso 2 with disc 24, back and biceps. Wise choice to lay off Meso 3 until you are healed.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Penguin I'm glad to hear that your neck is feeling better. That was very sweet of your DH to rub it for you. I think I will have to keep the aspercreme in mind for the next time mine is acting up. I have never tried that. Is your husband a Veteran? Hahaha, no luncheons for men huih? THat is funny. You really whip those projects out fast! I have been working on one scarf for a few weeks now and you get a project done in a day! The fingerless mitts are very cool! I don't think I would like the silence and complete concentration much either! We usually go back and forth with my SIL and her family for Thanksgiving ad Christmas Eve alternating who does each each year. Of course every year we have a big discussion trying to remember who did which the previous year! I *think* it's my turn for Thanksgiving, but of course I'm not really sure!

Julie It sounds like you are getting quite a workout just trying to get around on those crutches. I have only ever used them for 'fun' a couple of times and can't imagine having to use them all day every day. I'm sure it is tiring. great job doing disc 22 and disc 24 anyway, you are amazing. I'm glad all of those one-legged exercises are good for something! I hope to hever have to experience it the way you are. I don't blame you for waiting on meso 3. Hopefully by the time xTrain gets here you are out of your cast and ready to try out the workouts. Id di get a much better sleep last night, thanks!

Janie Hooray for internet and TV at the beach house, that is so exciting! I hope you get your workout mojo back today!

Last night was much better, the cats pretty much left me alone which was great. That might have been because DH got home yesterday and they were all over him instead :D I'm not sure though. In any case, I enjoyed my sleep! I did LIC this morning and it was a great workout. I really enjoyed it. Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Pam

Hubby had to leave this morning on a work trip so I'm sad, but he'll be back tomorrow night, so at least its not all week.

Laundry and a bit of cleaning this morning. I thought it would be nice to get the boxes out of the middle of Hubby's office floor for him. He showed me how to use the scanner so I can give that a go: I've got project pictures I can add.

We bought a 17 lb turkey last night and stuck it out in the extra fridge in the garage.

Pam, I get migraines so I don't like taking meds for body aches and the like because then I can't take anything for my head if I need to; aspercreme is a big help. Hubby was 3 {or 4th gen} Navy. My Dad and Mom's famiiy is Army, btw. ;) I knit while Hubby drives, while we watch TV, while I"m waiting for the laundry; I knit fast and generally have a lot of free time. Plus I can't just sit, I have to do something!

Janie, 5 hours that must have been a big job! I'm trying to motivate myself to exercise also

Julie, I've never been on crutches but they don't look like fun! The stool is a good idea but the bedroom isn't much bigger than the bed with only a 3ft hallway around it so I'm afraid I would trip over it more than use it. I already trip over April. I got up last night to use the bathroom and she moved from one side of the bed to the other while I was gone and since she's black I couldn't see her and walked right into her.

This morning was a rest day and a sleep in day. After DH left, Maggie crept her way up from the end of the bed to his spot so we snuggled for an hour before I had to get up. I had a dream last night I was doing squats with my cast on. It’s only been 6 days and I already miss my lower body workouts.

Janie How exciting to have TV and internet at the beach house. I’m sure you will get that exercise bug again soon. Did you order X-Train? When that comes in, you may find that old spark and interest to working out again.

Pam Great job on LIC! Was that original style or LIS style? I was going to guess original style. Oh yes, the crutches are giving my upper body quite the workout as well as my core and my one good leg gets quite the workout too. I don’t think I would wish long term crutches use on my worst enemy they are that bad. I’m sure I will get the hang of them just about the time I get rid of them which will be just fine by me.

Penguin We have a small bedroom too with only about 2-3 feet on each side of the bed and maybe 4 feet between the end of the bed and the closet and door. I can totally understand about black dogs and not being able to see them in the dark. Maggie is black but has a white chest and sometimes I can catch a glimpse of her white chest or the light hitting her eyes and that is the only way I know she is there.

Have a great day!

I did 40 min of Paul's Kettlebell Drills. I have the heat set at 72* and it didn't turn on all day until right before I was going to exercise, which means I had to go turn it down! I don't need heat blowing when I'm trying to sweat!

I'm trying to get my exercise Mojo back, not happening yet. I'm trying.:(

How's everyone doing?

Penquin, Great job on 40 min. of Paul's Kettlebell Drills.

Take care

Penguin aw, sorry to hear that your DH is gone, but nice that it's just a short trip. Did you get any of that picture scanning done? We stiull haven't figured out our Thanksgiving plan. I need to call my SIL tonight I guess. My niece invited us to her house, but we will probably stick with our tradition. Oh ugh, migraines seem awful. I started getting really bad headaches a few years ago, but still not migraine level I don't think. I can't imagine those nasty migraines that last for days. I don't like to just sit either, my DH makes fun of me, but if I am watching TV and not doing anything else I will fall asleep. It doesn't matter how good the show is!

Julie I hope you enjoyed your rest and sleep in day, it sounds very nice snuggling with Maggie! That is so funny about your dream, I can see you trying to do that though!! :D It was definitely original style LIS, I am not too crazy about LIS LIC. Hang in there with those crutches!!

Penguin Great job on the Kettlebell drills! I usually turn down the heat when I exercise too.

Janie Sorry you still don't have your Mo back...sometimes though you just need a break to get re-energized. I bet Julie is right, XTrain could be just the thing to help there!

Last night a GF took another friend and me to see the Jersey Boys. OMG, it was such a great show. It just made you want to get up and dance the whole time because the music was so much fun. We really had a nice night. I couldn't believe that it was 10:30 when it was over. I am usually asleep by then but I wasn't even tired. Of course then I didn't end up getting to bed until after 11:30 which is way past my bedtime. I did get up and do Horizontal conditioning volume 1 this morning. I think I will be wanting an afternoon nap later though! Well, I need to get busy at work, have a great day everyone!

Pam

This morning I did Gym Style Chest and Triceps. It takes me a little longer to do the workouts as I have to pause the DVD for equipment changes. Cathe and crew are fast at changing equipment but they are really fast now that I have only one foot to hop on.

Penguin Great job on that kettlebell workout! I had a similar issue with the heat earlier this Fall. DH had opened up the vent in my exercise room and there I was getting ready to work out and not understanding why I was sweating while just putting the DVD in the player. Then I realized what was happening and had to quickly go over and shut the vent. I told DH to leave it shut unless he was trying to kill me.

Janie Oh I am so sorry you are having problems getting back into exercising. I am sure having the tennis elbow issue is not helping. I’m sending good thoughts your way and hoping you get that bug again when you are ready.

Pam Great job on HC vol 1 especially after such a late night! I have never seen Jersey Boys but it sounds like it would be fun especially as a girl’s night out. I’m pretty crazy but I am not crazy enough to try squats right now. I’m actually a little nervous about doing floor leg work for the first week or two because my leg swells up so bad by the end of the work day.

Have a great day!

Walked with Rolly on the beach for 45 min. It was so beautiful! First time since I got here a few days ago that it was bright and sunny.

Making a huge batch of soap today. This recipe is especially good because I had made samples from it in hopes that it will cure my skin tags. It Does! I'm so excited about it not only because of that but because I have a chance (in hopes) to keep My Joeys skin cancer at bay. Did some research on what is good for cancerous/tumorous (skin tags are tumors) and found a lot of information. Not proven of course, but to me that doesn't matter. If it doesn't help Joey it does help me. And of course it is great soap. A win win situation.

I'm making Joey use it now for about a month. As his appt. is approaching to see the dermatologist, I'm curious to what the doctor will find or NOT. He's been fighting skin cancer for years now. It's the kind that if you have to have cancer this one is more manageable by putting some kind of strong lotion on it or cutting it out entirely. He's been cut on so much and goes in to cut his cancer out at least twice a year. My poor man.:(

Pam, I can't wait for XTrain. Just mentioning that and trying to help me makes me feel a whole lot better. I'll do it! Oh how nice to see the Jersey Boys. I love great music that makes you want to move and dance. So glad you had a good time. Great job on HC vol. 1. I think I'm going to get another one. Thinking about something less strenuous this time (because of my arm). One of the easier ones that uses the stability ball. What do you think. Should make me get prepared to do the Volumes.

Julie, Great job on GS Chest and triceps. You are handling yourself so well. I need to be just like that and continue with my exercises. Thanks for the good thoughts my way. I think it's working!

Take care ladies,

Janie

Hubby made it home today so I'm a happy Penguin. My legs, abs and butt are sore from the kbells. After Bible study, I had a routine mammogram, then fixed a nice welocme home dinner for Hubby, of roasted chicken and veggies.

ETA: I forgot to post I did 40min on the treadmill to thaw out my lower body.

Julie, I workout in our living room right under a ceiling fan but also right under a vent {we have those weird round ones from the 50's}, so when the AC is blowing its great but when the heat is blowing its like a vortex of heat. I usually remember to go turn the heat down before I start to exercise.

Pam, haven't tried the scanning yet. I wrote down the instructions and it seems easy enough but technology and I don't mix well.

Julie Great job on GS chest and triceps. I think it is just amazing that you are continuing to work so hard with that big cast on, good for you! I complain sometimes at how fast they change their weights and I'm not trying to do it with the handicap of only one foot!
I knew nothing about Jersey boys before I saw it so I didn't know it was all about Frankie Valli and the 4 seasons. Their songs are all so much fun, but the story is a little sad. Oh, is your leg in pain? That doesn't sound good if it is swelling up so badly. I hope you are able to prop it up some while you are working!

Janie Great job on your walk on the beach with Rolly, it sounds like it was just wonderful and just what your soul needed! Wow, homemade soap too, you never cease to amaze me! That is great that is cures your skin tags, I sure hope it helps Joey as well. We have a friend who is always having to get skin cancer spots cut out too, it's just terrible. Well so far I haven't found a less strenuous Horizontal Conditioning  They are tough. I can't imagine trying to do it with your tennis elbow because so many of the moves are done with your weight on your hands or elbows. One with a stability sounds like it would be a good idea though. I need to look at mine and see if any of them use the stability ball. None of the ones that I have done so far do.

Penguin Oh boy, sounds like you got some good DOMS from your kb workout, that is awesome. Oh my, I hate getting mammograms. I am convinced that a man invented that machine just to torture women! Ouch! Your chicken dinner sounds wonderful, I love roasted chicken but for some reason I rarely remember to make it  Great job on your 40 minutes on the treadmill too!

Cheryl Where are you? I hope everything is ok!

This morning for me was PUB. I really really like that upper body workout. I really like the pyramid concept and I love that there are no pushups in it. Well, there are a few in the warm up, but they are just on the knees and not many. I remembered to do the abs first, but the way that I recorded the disc didn't let me skip to the end and back up. It was going to take too long to ff to the abs and then rewind back, so I just did them in the normal place. It will be quite an accomplishment if I am ever able to do that entire stability ball section at the end without rests/modifying! Anyway, have a great day ladies!

Pam

This morning was another rest day although the dogs did not want to let me sleep in. I'm so happy that I don't have any meetings at work today. Usually I don't mind because it gets me up and moving a little but with being on crutches, I am going to love not having to hobble my from meeting room to meeting room today!

Janie Great job on getting out on such a beautiful and walking with Rolly for 45 min! You are so creative and handy with making your own soap. I love that Joey is willing to try home remedies. My DH thinks natural remedies don’t work and would rather rely on modern medicine. I’m not against modern medicine but I say give the natural remedy a try first. Thanks for the kind words. I’m trying really hard to not let my broken foot bring me down. Plus I really think that exercising helps boost my mood and makes me happier and more optimistic.

Penguin Great job on the treadmill for 40 min! Walking or jogging/running does help loosen those stiff legs after a tough lower body workout. You are such a good wife making a special dinner for your hubby’s return. I have to admit I don’t cook for my DH often … ok almost never. He doesn’t enjoy the same types of foods I do (i.e., healthy foods) so I just let him do his own thing.

Pam Great job on PUB! I love that workout too! The time just flies and I love that you only use dumbbells. Thanks for the kind words. As I was telling Janie, I think being able to keep working out (even if it is less than what I was doing) is helping keep me in a good mood. I have a stool at work to prop it up but it is pretty high up and then my calf and hip cramp up a little. If I take advil it helps a little but I am trying to not take that too often because I don’t want to build up a tolerance. Crazy, I know!

Have a great day!

Walked with Rolly for 40 min. on the beach. Bright beautiful day.

Pam, Great job on PUB. Keep it up, one day you will do the entire stability ball section. I think Vol. 4 uses the stability ball throughout most of the workout.

Cheryl, Really, are you OK?

Julie, Rest days are good, enjoy. Awe, wished you could have slept in. I'm also glad you don't have any meetings to hobble to. I'm not against modern meds either, some work miracles, but some are so horrible especially to me. I also like to give natural stuff a try first. I think your right about exercising boosting your mood.

Take care,

Janie

Julie That is nice that you didn't have to go to any meetings yesterday. You are doing amazing with the amount of working out you are able to do despite the cast. I understand your point about it helping with your mood. Maybe we should start a count down...you've almost had it on a week now right, so 1/4 of the way there! I don't blame you for not wanting to take too much advil either.

Janie Great job on your walk on the beach with Rolly. That is such a nice way to get your exercise in! Ah, I haven't done volume 4 yet, maybe I will try that one this weekend.

Well I am doing a Cathe rotation so that means it include Kick Punch and Crunch, which was my workout for this morning. I hadn't done it in awhile though so it was good. My abs were feeling the stability ball work after yesterdays PUB, but I like the ab section in KPC because I can do it all  So happy it's Friday, I hope everyone has a great day!

Pam

This morning I did Gym Styles Back Shoulders & Biceps. I did not do the superman moves. I didn’t think that would be comfortable to try to do with a cast on so I skipped them. I also had to stop early on the last exercise of wrist curls. My forearms get quite the workout on the crutches and I didn’t want to burn them out before the day even began.

Janie Great job on that walk again! I bet it helps to get out and walk when you are in a beautiful place with beautiful weather. I’ll be taking a rest day tomorrow and hoping I can sleep in. Usually the dogs are pretty good about letting us sleep on the weekends. After we feed them at the usual morning time of 5 am. That’s DH’s job now that I can’t navigate stairs quickly anymore. ;)

Pam Great job on KPC! Oh the stability ball section in that one includes pikes too like PUB but at least there is not as many and since your arms are not like jello it is not too bad. I have all kinds of countdowns. Every morning I tell DH how many days I have left. Today was 21 days left. With Thanksgiving next week, I am thinking my half-way point will get here soon.:D:eek:

Have a great day!

This is the second week I've done a workout on Tues then couldn't walk right for the rest of the week because I was sore. Grr. I got on the scale and gained a few more lbs; that makes +15 for this year! I've got to stop this! Why can't I get ahold of myself! Hubby's gained weight also so we are trying to work together on this. Planning another TM workout today.

Julie, Hubby never knows what to expect from me. Some nights he gets a full meal then some days he comes home and I hand him a can of soup telling him to heat it up for us! He's pretty good at fending for himself is I get lazy or mid-project.

Pam, I hate being sore! This mammo seemed to hurt more than last year, too.

FYI: Just found out a bit of info on abs. Doing ab work in the beginning of your weight work exercises, is not a good idea because you might strain something or injure yourself. Reason being is while you do the other exercises (which uses core all the time) once you continue into the program you are fatigued and now in danger of not being able to complete the exercises because of the already fatigued core. You should always end with a good ab work. Found this info while searching the internet. Cathe sure does know her business. Had to do my part and make myself useful.

Working on my father's hands art piece. I have a lot to do yet.

Did The Wedding Video, step work today. So much fun.

Pam, Let me know how you like HC Vol. 4, it looks so so so so so hard! Great job on on KB&C. I've always liked that one.

Julie, Great job on GT back, shoulders and biceps. Wise for not doing the superman's. Glad to see you listening to your body. Were you able to sleep in on your rest day?

Take care everyone,

Janie

Julie Great job on Gym Styles Back Shoulders & Biceps. I can't imagine doing suoermans with that heavy cast, so i think you made the right decision! Oh I have such weak forearms, I'm not sure I could make it on crutches! I definitely have AB DOMS today after the PUB KPC duo! I was going to do a horizontal conditioning today, but changed my mind since they are hurting too much! You're right, you are going to be off those nasty crutches in no time!

penguin oh no, sorry about that leg workout. i love DOMs, but not when they are that extreme. it's good to know that your workout did something, but not good to not be. Able to walk all week! i hope you are feeling better today! It seems like it would help for losing the weight that you want to lose if you and DH are doing it together. I have faiths hat you can find the motivation to beat it. Janie may have some good advice, she had great success last year!

Janie "]FYI: Hat information that you read on abs makes a lot of sense, thanks for sharing that. I guess it also points out how important it is to have a strong core, as that will help in all areas. I will be looking forward to seeing your day's hands, how cool!
Great job on the wedding video! Such a fun one!

This morning for me was oyramid lower body. I must say that I don't like it as much as PUB. Probably because you don't get to switch body parts with each set, it's all legs and glutes. It's still a goodie though. I had been thinking about trying to do HC volume 4 too, but as I was telling Julie, my abs Ae hurting from the,sat 2 days so I decided they needed a rest. Maybe tomorrow.....? I hoe everyone is having a great weekend!

Pam
