Push It

Good morning ladies! No workouts Friday and Saturday. Last night was MMA Boxing.

Saturday I made Chocolate Covered Katie's Cheesecake Mousse. It was so good I made it twice! I will say though that the second time I substituted cottage cheese for the cream cheese. The combo between the tofu and cheesecake packs a pretty high protein punch! More than a protein bar and oh so tasty!

Toni
The new rotation looks good!

Which RF rotation are you thinking of doing? The Advanced is a little crazy with two workouts per day. I can believe though that anyone doing that will definitely shed fat and get ripped.

Jennifer
Holy glute work! I hope you got your fix after that workout!

Great minds must think alike -- I made chicken tortilla soup yesterday. Very yummy!

Did you see the post about the free spinning workouts? I am going to have to roll the bike into the bedroom (where I have the TV set up to use the laptop) and try those out.

Natasha
I started looking seriously at the bikes around January when XTrain came out because of the ride. Before that, I was thinking about getting a bike trainer for my regular bike. However, Jennifer said awhile back that she thought it wouldn't work as well. I think she is right because I don't think I would be able ride standing with the trainer. Of course, I don't have one to verify that theory. When I was looking, I wanted to have something quiet, with good tension and with the monitor (although that was last on the list -- I would have went without that). I wound up with the one I have mostly because of the reviews (although there were some pretty negative ones as well) and the price. Sorry I can't be of more help!

I think you will like the Target more once it slows down. I think that some people love Target because they have some higher end items than Walmart. Also, they treat their employees much better than Walmart and they have programs where they give money back to the school. With my Red Card, not only do I get 5% off of everything (and free online shipping) but they also give a portion of sales to my son's school. Their clearance items rock -- and they ALWAYS have something (even food like canned goods). Target usually has plenty of checkers (a big improvement over Walmart -- the Walmarts here are AWFUL for that. It can take an hour or more just to check out) and the entire staff is very helpful. I've gotten to the point where I really dislike going to Walmart. I still make a trip there once a month though to buy filters for the aquarium.

Sorry to hear that your birthday wasn't very good. How is Bella feeling today?

Have a great day eveyone!

Hello :) Slept really good last night!! Well I cheated...used an OTC sleep aid. I haven't been sleeping well the last week or so and I'm just worn down. I really needed the sleep. I love when I close my eyes and I don't open them again until the morning!! I'm doing a modified cardio fucused week this week. I'm already down to only 5 days this week, so I won't be taking a rest day in the middle of the week. SuperCuts(+ 100 RC Hip Thrust) this morning for some endurance building. Love that workout. It really works the entire body and NO DREAD!! Well except for that situp/pushup combo. She crazy with that thing...LOL!!

I think I'm going to round out the week with: All Out, HC V4, Low Max, and Drill Max Cardio + UB premix. Drill Max is long, so I wanted to find a premix that was under an hour.

I think I'm going to go through all my workouts and premixs to pre-define my rotation. Well at least make a list of workouts that I want to work in. I have several that I haven't done or do rarely and I want to cycle through some of them. I feel like I need to do that before I buy anymore :)

Stacie
MMA Boxing is a workout that I have not done!! I'm going to need to write that one down for sure. It comes up a lot here.

Jennifer
Congrats on the Kindle Fire!! I LOVE gadgets!! I've recently become an Apple junkie...it's quite sad!! I've got and iPhone, iPad, Time Capsle, Mac and my kids have iPods and iPad Minis. I'm thinking of getting an Apple TV, but not convinced I need it yet. My husband says I'm in Apple Nation..LOL!!

Tasha
Target has nicer stuff than Walmart. I will not buy Walmart clothes, but I will buy Target clothes. And I like their home decor department. They have cute stuff there.

HeartyMax
I have been very bad. I ordered all the HC 101s  I wanted some shorter HC workouts that don't have a leg component to them. I really want to use these as add ons to other workouts. I'm hoping they fit what I'm looking for.

Oh....forgot to report that I went to the Chiropractor today. Oh man I feel much better!! He adjusted my back(lots of cracking going on there) and neck. Says my mineral consumption looks off. I have ridges on my finger nails which is an indication of that. Plus I told him about my energy levels and how sensitive they are and he said my sugar levels need to be regulated, which I figured. *sigh* Figuring out this eating thing is irritating. My not good a disciplined stuff like this. I better get good though, cause I don't like the way the energy dips feel.

Ok...child taxi service is about to begin. See ya!!

Hi everyone :)

It looks like I could not escape the wrath of the stomach flu :(. Thankfully it only hit me for a few hours on Sunday night. No workout for me yesterday. I felt really tired and took that as a sign my body needed the break from exercise. Plus, my entire back and bi's are super DOMS'ing from my M2 workout . Did I mention TTOTM is on the horizon? When it rains, it pours .

Toni
You can't get any better than a good nights quality sleep. I don't think you're cheating (with regards to the OTC sleep-aid). Sometimes we need a little help!
I try to make my eating as "uncomplicated" as possible -- you know I love food . And IMO, food should be enjoyable, and not something to dread. The one habit I've picked up since my early 20's, is filling 1/2 or more of my plate with veggies. I eat a ton of veggies :). Small changes add up to big results in the long run. Another habit I have found to be helpful is eating protein at every meal. This is actually relatively new to me. I find my appetite is kept at bay and I feel more energy. Now ask me how much water I drink . Still a work in progress .

Stacie
I tried Foodie Fiasco's brownie's! They were SO tasty!
Thanks for the advice about the bike :). I find reading reviews helpful, but then you come across a "bad one" and that just make you think twice. I would love to add a bike to my collection of goodies one day .
With regards to Walmart, I am completely spoiled with mine -- it's absolutely wonderful! I guess that's why I was not really impressed with Target . Perhaps I'll try again once the crowd dies down.

Jennifer
How did the chili go? It's funny you mentioned it because my cousin recently made a huge batch, freezed it, and gave me two huge containers. Bella loves chili and while she was eating it she said "mom, Amanda is the best maker of chili". So I guess mine pales in comparison .
Congrats on your new Kindle! I should look into that too. Are the downloads really that much cheaper?
4DS UB is a killer that's for sure! It is a bit long though, and I find I lose steam once the bi's/tri's section comes around. Ideally, I think it's best to split up the UB workouts into 2 days, if you are going to it regularly. I absolutely adore the shoulder work!

Have a great day ladies!

Good morning,
I took a rest day yesterday.
This morning I did To The Max (step, tabatas, hiits) and then did the Upper Body premix from SuperSets. It was a decent workout altogether:)

Toni (aka Apple:D),
Thanks - I should have my kindle by Wednesday and I'm very excited about it especially because I just finished my latest book!

"Mom's Taxi service" - that's funny :)

I do the same thing as Tash - load up my plate (at dinner) most of the time with tons of veggies. I also make sure to have lots of protein at every meal (20-30g); my snacks also have about 10g protein.

I'm glad you went to the chiropractor; I find that monthly visits really work for me. The Myofacial massages help, too.

Keep up the good workouts!

Stacie,
Thanks for the tip about the cottage cheese instead of creamcheese!

I've not looked any further into the other spin workouts (still) but I think keeping your bike where you can easily use it for downloads is a great way to get variety!

Tash,
Oh man, sorry you got the stomach bug; I bet it's because you're so healthy that you were able to get better so quickly:D Enjoy your rest day.

You're SO right; I think that 4DS would work better with bi's/tri's on a different day. It does have awesome exercises. I'm thinking about trying to split the upper body again. Maybe if I do 20-30 min cardio (plenty of workouts/premixes fit into that category) and then a few upper body parts that might work. I'll try it again soon.

The chili turned out awesome if I do say so myself. Actually, Craig liked this batch the best - I used a spicier brand of Chili Verde which packed a bit more of a punch than I meant to but it wasn't TOO hot especially when I added cheese (2% cheddar). The Chili Verde variation is a nice change once in a while; it esentially uses the green chili verde instead of red tomato anything. I'll make a note to send you the recipe when I get home:D

What happened with your Everlast Gloves? Now that you've got some awesome new shoes I bet you're ready for some bobbing and weaving and punching and kicking!

TmJ and Heartymax,
Hope all is well!

Good morning ladies! Last night was Pyramid Lower -- my first time doing that workout actually. I messed up on that one and used nearly the equivalent weight Cathe does in dumbbells instead of with the barbell! Luckily, I caught it after the leg presses but my forearms were on fire! I was really surprised though that I could even do all of them with 60lbs of weight. I remember when I used to die doing them with just 10 lbs. In the end, I still went higher than Cathe on almost every exercise because my neighbor had to pick up her son from work so there was no time to get different weights. I might regret that decision later on if the DOMS kicks in!

Toni
I think you will love MMA Boxing. She does a lot of combos in it that I have never seen in her other workouts. I have a boxing DVD from Lala Ali that I need to break out. Every time I do MMA Boxing, I think about how I need to do that one!

Jennifer, Natasha, & Toni
I have been reading about Pauline Nordin after the Fighter Diet thread in the OD and she eats 6lbs of fruits and vegetables a day!!!!

Natasha
I'm so sorry you caught Bella's bug! Are you feeling back to normal now after your rest day?

Jennifer
I didn't realize Super Cuts had an Upper Body mix! I am going to have to check that one out.

I have been looking at some of the DVDs from Spinning.com. I think I might grab a couple of them! They are way cheaper on their website than anywhere else. If I get them, I'll let you know how they are. One of them is a ride through the Rockies which I think I would really like!

Have a great day everyone!

Hello ladies,

Sorry I've been MIA lately. My godmother passed last week and I've just been in a whirlwind of funeral, sadness and emotions. I decided to give into the extra sleep I've needed and not workout for a few days.

Today however I set my alarm for 5am to workout. It never went off! Bummer! I have a company dinner tonight so it will have to be tomorrow.

Sorry, I need to catch up with personals. Hopefully everyone is doing great!

TmJ

I did Slide & Glide (cardio only) and then did Level2 of Butt Bible. I know I am going to start feeling it today!

Stacie,
The UB premix that I did is on the SuperSets/Push-Pull DVD; I haven't looked at the premixes for SuperCuts, maybe there is one on there - worth looking in to!

Yes, I saw that thread about Pauline Nordin - she definitely is extreme. I'm not on FB very often but when I am I do see her posts. She phrases things bluntly and boldly and does have an extreme personality. I'm not on the FighterDiet and have no intentions of it, either. However, I have considered the Lifetime Cheese that she likes but I'm not sure I'm even willing to go that extreme.

Tash,
I hope you still have kicked the stomach bug, are feeling back to normal, and ready to get your DOMS on! I also hope that Bella has recovered 100%. Speaking of, I forgot, when does she actually start school? I know you went through the enrollment process and all that. By the way - Spring Rolls with a hummus dip might be a great lunch for her; I think you said she likes veggies.

I meant to comment a while back when you mentioned the Jump Rope being completely different than just doing Jump Rope Arms. I'm sure of that! I actually have looked into the aero-jump things a while back since I don't think I have the ceiling height to jump rope in our house. They are weighted balls attached to a rope; the concept is to hold the rope while doing jump rope arms. It's supposed to add more of a real feel to it, though I still don't think it's the same as actually jumping rope. Anyway, there are 2 manufacturers that make them (that I've seen) and both of them got bad reviews on the product - the balls are glued on and don't last long before they fly off the rope! How crazy is that?! One would think they tested the product for a while - and heavily - before selling their product!

TmJ,
I am so sorry for your loss and I wish peace to come to your families.

Heya ladies!

Yesterday my cousin came over and we took an awesome 1 1/2hr walk with Bella around the neighborhood. I'm trying to get Bella accustomed to the route we will take when she starts school (we will be walking the majority of the time when the weather is nice).

I don't know about all of you, but I have this huge obsession with nut butters! We stopped off at the grocery store yesterday and I saw a macadamia/cashew butter for an incredible sale price! I quickly snatched it from the shelf and was so excited to try it out in my oatmeal this morning. YUMMY :p

Jennifer
Bella and I are back to feeling 100%! She actually starts school this September (kindergarten). Spring rolls + hummus would be a great lunch idea! I'm already trying to figure out what the heck I'm going to pack in her lunches that don't contain any traces of nuts. My savior these past few days that have gotten her up and eating again, has been banana and PB. She really loves any type of nut butter :(.
OMG on the rope thing! How crazy! I guess recalls like that happen sometimes . You have to see all the ones for toys & baby stuff!
Hope you get some great LB DOMS .

Stacie
I did the same thing during PLB! My forearms were on fiyah! I am really considering investing in those wrist straps. WTG on beating Cathe in weight #'s AGAIN :eek:.
I eat a lot of veggies, but no way can I come close to 6lbs of fruit/veggies! NO FRIGGIN WAY! You'd have to constantly be shopping for produce -- might as well just live in the grocery store. Hey, I do my best.

Have a great day everyone

Good morning everyone! Last night was Pyramid Upper body. Cathe absolutely fried by biceps. I had to drop down to 5lbs to get that last set in! My neighbor was a trooper though -- she stayed with her scheduled weight values except for chest flies (or is it flys in this context?).

TMJ
I am so very sorry for your loss. Sending lots of hugs your way.

Natasha
Glad to hear you are feeling better! I totally hear you about the 6lbs of fruit and veggies -- honestly, I don't think my digestive system could handle it. Just like any other type of food, after a certain point too many will start to give me a stomach ache.

I love nut butters too! Thank goodness Sprouts sells them in bulk! I keep waiting for some of them to pop up in Sam's club or Costco.

Can I be your daughter too? Daily spring rolls and hummus sound delicious! ;)

Btw, did you see the latest Foodie Fiasco recipe? She really cracked me up with her comment comparing the brownies to Channing Tatum.

Jennifer
Sorry about the confusion with Supercuts vs Supersets! All of Cathes's DVDs have so many premixes sometimes it's hard to keep them all straight!

Toni
Do you still like your Vitamix and do you find that you use it often? QVC has some models on sale now and with the 5 pay option...very tempting!

Have a great day everyone!

TMJ---sorry for your loss.

I haven't felt well this week. I thought I was just coming down with a cold, but energy is low and TTOM is in next day or two. One more day and we get out for spring break. I was looking forward to relaxing and getting some organization done around the house. Anyway, DH sister is sick and he wants to travel home to see her so we are planning to make the drive down south.

Hello all. Yesterday was All Out and today was HC V4...the dreaded ball!! My glutes are still a touch sore from Mondays hip thrusts and All Out worked them more  I didn't do any of the leg moves in the HC V4 workout today. I wanted to give my legs a bit of a rest. Besides stabilizing my body on the ball for the plank moves was enough of a leg workout. My whole body was wobbly!! Tomorrow might be a rest day depending on how I feel. Then I'll finish the week up with Low Impact Circuit. I love that workout!!

TMJ
Sorry for your loss.

Stacie
I just remembered I forgot to answer your question about my RF rotation. I will not be doing any rotation that requires me to do two workouts per day. I just can't see the point in it.

I do still use my Vitamix. I find that when I am planning my meals I use it more than when I'm not planning meals. I'm going to be planning meals again next week, so I'll be using it again.

Tasha
Funny you should mention nut butters. I have found this week that crackers and peanut butter give me a really nice energy boost when I'm running low. I'm excited about that!! So now I'm going to have to try the nut butters. Cause I can buy a jar and some crackers and leave it at work. Which is nice because I don't have to pack it up.

Jennifer
Slide N Glide is on my have not done list. I'm going to make sure I add that one to my rotations in the up coming weeks.

Thanks everyone for the kind wishes. I really appreciate that.

Back on the horse for me today...Low Max. No surprise as that is the workout I tend to grab when I've been away a bit and want to be somewhat gentle to myself. Still love it. I've planned the next few days in the Workout Manager so that I'm not completely clueless when 5am rolls around. It's hard to make decisions that early. Tomorrow is CrossFire because I'll have a bit more time.

We're in the final stretch of hockey tryouts for next fall. So incredibly stressful which for an 8yo is ridiculous. Last tryout is Sat and we find out right after. Eek! Apparently they already know where the kids will place (level A, B, C) and now it's positions. Fingers crossed that he's placed appropriately (that's all I can hope for!).

Jennifer: Great job on Slide and Glide. That is one I haven't done yet either. I had a grand hatred for the discs but was recently warming up to them. Of course, M recently stepped on one upside down and cracked it. It's not unusable but it needs some duct tape. :)

Natasha: That's great that you're close enough to school to walk! When I was in grad school, I would walk in every day (30 min) which was a wonderful way to get in some easy exercise.

Stacie: Yay for PUB and great job keeping up with the weights.

Toni: I love All Out! Such a great workout!

Heartymax: Sorry you're under the weather. There's some really rough stuff flying around out there. A lot of people have been sick at work.

Have a great day ladies!
TmJ

Hello fit & fab ones :)

Yesterday's w/o was Super Cuts + XT Barre. OMG super DOMS throughout my entire body today .

BTW, are you guys familiar with this website? :
Nia Shanks - Lift Like A Girl

I was reading some of her blogs, and the topics reached me on such a deep, emotional level. Once particular topic about the "scale" really made me feel amazing. Some time ago, I decided to ditch the scale (for all the reasons mentioned in the article). I started to feel guilty that I did that, and now I realize that it was the best thing for me (certainly not everyone). I can absolutely relate to her philosophy about lifting (you know I love to lift :D) and finding cardio activities that you enjoy (not dread). This woman totally rocks! I might purchase her program (it's a PDF file).

Heartymax
I'm sorry to hear about your DH's sister. I hope she is doing ok. Pls keep us posted.

Stacie
How is Tyler doing?

TMJ
Hopefully hockey try-outs go well for your little dude!

Toni
Nut butters are the bomb! And ya, they do fill you up nicely :).

Gotta jet! Have a good day!

Hello everyone. One more day in this week  I cannot wait!! My kids are leaving for their dad's house tomorrow and I will have a week of peace and quiet :D

Today was 4DS UB pre-mix. I don't normally do UB work right after HC, but I sort of forgot about that today. I conviently remembered when I got to the shoulder work  I really had to lighten the weights because my shoulders were so fatigued. All the other muscle groups were not bad though. My biceps are really stinging right now and I'm generally wiped out!! I've done some pretty good workouts this week, so I'm thinking two days of rest will do my body good cause my next week of workouts is also a doosy

Tasha
I get on the scale daily usually, but I don't really pay much attention to the number. My weight is currently up, but I look good :) My pants fit and my belly is in an acceptable range. I think I've got a bit of extra muscle from my lifting, which is a good thing. I do use the scale to gage my 'normal range' so to speak. If it gets way out of whack, then I know my fat is up a bit.

TMJ
I hope hockey try-outs go well. I hear hockey is very time consuming and expensive. Like cheerleading I'm guessing!! We have tryouts coming in May. I'm always feel like life is a bit on 'hold' until we know where she's going to be placed because we won't know the practice schedule until the teams are picked. It seems our entire life schedule is done around cheerleading practice

Good afternoon ladies! Last night was Low Impact step. My neighbor still struggles with step workouts and I don't know why. She has done Supercuts, All Out Hiit, and parts of Athletic Training but some reason step really tires her out. I am confused as to why. Any thoughts? I would really like to do some different step videos soon.

HeartyMax
Sorry to hear you aren't feel well. Maybe you just needed a rest week? Anyway, I hope you feel back to normal soon. Have a safe trip as well -- I hope DH's sister is too sick and that she makes a speedy recovery.

Toni
Thanks for the info on the Vitamix! I am still on the fence about getting it -- mostly due to the cost.

Way to go on getting the UB premix done and doing HC! I want to do those more often but it seems like there is never any time for anything!

I totally hear you on the two workouts a day. I can't imagine doing RF twice a day.

TMJ
I grew up in a small town where everyone who wanted to join a team could because otherwise there wouldn't be a team! It feels so weird now to be in a large city where even the younger kids have tryouts. Good luck to your son on the hockey tryouts! I hope he makes the team he wants!

Natasha
I hadn't heard of Nia until the OD topic. I'll have to check out her blog.

In regards to Tyler, he is doing fine other than he caught a little cold. Of course that moved us to orange alert because of his asthma. I think I will have to give him a neutralizer treatment tonight because he seems to be coughing a lot. I still haven't filled the ADD medication...I just can't bring myself to do it. The new teacher starts next week (he is on Spring Break right now). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she will be more tolerant and understanding.

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Good Friday to you.
Most people seem to be off work today because traffic was incredibly light and very nice.

Craig's going to visit his mom for her birthday but he's leaving Saturday so he'll also get to be with her and his brother for Easter. It'll just be me and the furry kids until Wednesday or so. However I did convince him to go to Ripped class with me tonight:)

On my Kindle I was able to borrow a book that looks really fun - it's the Jack Daniels series; the book is called Whiskey Sour. It's a murder mystery that's supposed to be very entertaining. I forget the author's name but I only had a chance to read the first page in the chapter (as well as the intro) and based on that I think it will be a very nice reading weekend.

I skipped my workout yesterday.
This morning I did Hard Strikes (no tabatas) with my 3-lb weighted gloves. Then I went on for the shoulder conditioning drills but it did not take me long at all to drop down to 5lbs from the 8lbs. Of course I stopped at the sit-up portions.

I did go ahead and buy the Hot Flash workouts (mentioned in the OD last week) - I should have them in another day or two.
I'm mostly interested in the one called "the mix" - it has a 20-minute plank segment (I know, Tash, that one is not for you!), a 20-minute tabata, and then a 20-minute stretch segment.
I decided to get the other ones because they are low impact and I figured I could use them as add-ons. "the core" one has glutes in it so I just couldn't resist that one. I maybe shouldn't have bothered with any of them except for The Mix but who knows... I might be surprised; after all, if another Cathlete likes the workouts then there has to be something to it -- and low-impact steady-state variety is a good thing:) I'll update you when I receive them and give them a try.

Heartymax,
I hope you feel better soon. How did your son like the Humane Society gig?

Toni,
Enjoy your little break from the kids. Congrats on such a rockin' combination workout!

Stacie,
Maybe your neighbor needs to try a different step DVD? Is it the choreography that's giving her trouble or the cardio aspect of it? Is she using any risers (if so maybe she shouldn't)?
I don't have the Basic one so I don't know what it entails, but what about trying the Step workout from Low Impact (Low Impact Challenge Step workout). the Intensity step workout is easy as far as choreography goes, but it does move a bit fast and is challenging cardiovascularly.

Sorry to hear about Tyler's cold. Sinus rinses (Sinus Rinse Kit by Neil Med - not the Netti Pot) and a good decongestant (Claritin D) are miracle workers for me, just an fyi in case that's helpful to know. Hopefully that would at least help keep his nose and lungs clear.

Tasha,
NICE combination there - and happy DOMSing to you!

Thanks for the website, I have not heard of Nia Shanks but I will check her out. As for me and the scale, I generally weigh myself every 2-3 months. I just never got into the habit of weighing of myself. I was always more focused on what my butt looks like! LOL!

TmJ,
Definitely got my fingers and toes crossed that M is happy where he is placed.
I'm glad you're still enjoying Low Max:)
Any new info regarding your chest discomfort?

Have a happy and health Easter weekend, Everybody!

Hi everyone!

Going to be a busy w/e for us. Tomorrow we are off to the in-laws in Hamilton (near Niagara Falls) and Sunday we have lunch at my aunts house. I probably won't have time to post until Monday.

Yesterday I took a nice 1 1/2hr walk with Bella. That was my workout :D. Today I did JM's Shed & Shred Level 1 & 2. Bella and I also went for a nice 30min walk. I have been enjoying the nice weather these days :).

Jennifer
Have fun w/ your furry babies this w/e :). Speaking of furry friends, I am addicted to The Dog Whisperer! I had no clue Cesar existed until I found his show on Netflix like 2 weeks ago .
How did the Ripped class with Craig go? I give him props for going...I assume most guys do not attend those types of classes. Or do they?
I hope you enjoy the Hot Flash workouts! Yes, yes, I would not enjoy a 20min plank segment -- although the JM workout I did today had loads of them . I pushed through and didn't complain like a whiny little [enter swear word that starts with a B here]. He he ;)

Stacie
Hmmm, interesting about the step dilemma. Is it the choreo she is struggling with or the intensity aspect of it? What about lowering her step height? (no risers, just the platform). Could it be coincidental that every time you guys do a step w/o, she does not eat/drink appropriately beforehand?
I'm sorry to hear about Tyler :(. I don't blame you one bit for hesitating to fill his ADD prescription. I really sympathize with everything you have to deal with -- you are so incredibly strong {{{hugs}}}. And don't forget to remind yourself you ARE doing the best you can. I think as mother's, we never give ourselves enough credit.

Toni
Enjoy the week alone without the kids! I'm jealous! And of course, you DESERVE it.
BTW, how is your step-daughter doing? You mentioned have some problems with her and your DH. I hope things have gotten better since then.
