Push It

Hi!

M had a random day off today so I took a vacation day and took him and his friend to the movies. It was fun but the friend TALKS SO MUCH! I also fell into the bag of popcorn (my weakness is salt). Oops!

Today was Body Max2. I was sweating buckets! It's only my 2nd time with it and did pretty ok. Tomorrow is AOLIH - a timesaver option of some sort as I will need to get to work earlier than usual.

Stacie: Glad you finally got your bike all squared away. Yikes all that blood! It's almost like the bike was possessed. So, when is your first ride?

Heartymax: Yay Crossfire!!!

Toni: Sorry you're so tired. Sometimes the best thing is just to stop and rest.

Jennifer: Glad the shin splints are gone. I've been meaning to give Afterburn another go. That was one of my first workouts with Cathe in Oct and I nearly died. Now I'm feeling a bit more confident so I think I would like it more.

Natasha: Great job for getting a workout in before the baptism.

Have a great night everyone!
TmJ

HI!
Upper body split from Total Body Trisets felt GREAT today:)
Instead of all the soldier plank pushups I did chest flys and pullovers so I got a double dose of those.

Tash,
Chris Fretag's website looks great! I haven't had a chance to check out very much of it but it seems very thorough. I saw that she has downloads! and recipes:)

TmJ,
What a great day; glad you were able to indulge yourself and M and his chatter-box friend!

Nice job with BM2; I'm assuming you did the step only, if you're still laying off the weights?

Afterburn has an awesome premix in case you haven't looked at those premixes. Be warned, there is one set of exercises towards the end that you actually have to re-do using the other leg.

Stacie,
Oh man; I guess dogs like the sweets, too!

It's great that your bike is already ready already:D So looking forward to your first workout with your bike! Which spinning dvds are you looking at?

Thanks for the tip about wrapping my leg; I do have a LOT of that self-sticking wrap (thanks to Whisper's injury tendencies). I think I will ice it for a while tonight, too.

Heartymax,
Nice job with Crossfire today!
Thanks for letting me know about your shins with Meso 3.

Toni,
Hope you're rested! Did you make it to the chiro?

Have a super evening!

Hi,

Today is a quickie workout. Tons to do at work so I'm heading in early (as I can't stay late). I'm thinking AOLHI floor + step timesaver. I wish I had more time to counteract all the popcorn I had yesterday....ooof....really feeling it this morning.

Jennifer...you're totally right, it was just the step portion. I am still avoiding weights for the moment.

Have a great day everyone.

TMJ---ROTFL about you falling in the popcorn.

Stacie---I wonder if I can do the 8 sets though even with pausing. Maybe with a 1 minute rest in between LOL!!

Toni---I am convinced that I must have another HC if not two more.

Today was volume 2 of HC. I went back to the 2 risers but also looked at the modifier more so I could switch to that one when needed.

Hi fit & fab ladies :)

Yesterday's w/o was Plyo Legs W3. IMO all the Plyo Legs w/o's are harder than Cardio Leg Blast. Those 1 legged mountain climber's w/the jump at the top have me begging for mercy! And don't even get me started about the Rock Climber's! I did the majority of the exercises using my 25lbs, but once again my forearms can't hold the weight and they wanted to give out. I am seriously going to invest in those wrist straps! My butt is hurting so badly today! Plyo Legs gets me every.single.time .

Bella got her 4yr immunization yesterday. She was such a champ! She cried a little, but all in all she did SO well. I am very proud of her :).

Heartymax
Are you getting some nice DOMS from HC?

Toni
Sorry to hear about the rough sleep and your dog :(. I would love to get a dog in the future, but they seem like more work than kids sometimes!

TMJ
I'm not sure if you saw, but I responded to your post about books/reading :).
Movies + popcorn = perfect combo ;).

Stacie

Glad to see you got the bike so quickly AND in working condition! Which workout will you do first?!
Unlike your family, 90% of my family is on the overweight side. It was very apparent at the Baptism I attended. The bad thing is most of them are under 40yrs old and have a weight problem. I try never to take my age for granted because I know how easy it is to gain weight regardless.

Jennifer
Glad to hear your shin splints are almost gone :).
Regarding the UB premix on 4DS, I actually have the DVD (not downloads). It's on one of the discs called Full UB -- or something along those lines. You won't miss it.
Chris Freytag has downloads! Really? How come I never saw that?! Thanks for the tip!

Have a great day everyone!

No workout yesterday again due to lack of sleep. Today I was back on track. PLB. The floor work was excellent, but I didn't really care for the pyramid work. Messing with the barbell constantly was irritating and I didn't feel like I got the weights right, so it didn't feel hard enough. Oh well. Next week I'll do GS Legs and see how that goes.

Tasha
I really enjoyed Plyo legs!! When I feel like I can do higher impact again I'll be adding those back in.

I love my dog, but her first year was EXPENSIVE!! She broke her leg and it required surgery to the tune of $3,000  She's been healthy since then thank goodness.

HeartyMax
I'm glad you are liking HC. I may consider getting BootCamp. I don't like the film quality of the 101s. Well I don't mind the video, but the poor quality audio kills it for me.

TMJ
I think I'll be doing All Out tomorrow. And possibly throw in the low impact HiiT from Intensity.....hmmmmm.

Stacie
My dog is fine. She didn't even seem to have an upset stomach. She's such a sneak! If we are not careful, she'll steal the food off your plate! We probably should do some more training...hehe.

Jennifer
Glad your shins are better :D

Good morning!

Sitting here trying to get off the couch and start my workout. Tummy isn't feeling too good...not sure what's going on. Hopefully I didn't catch anything at the dr office yesterday when I took M in for his 8yo wellness visit. That would be a bummer.

Natasha: Thanks for reminding me about the reading post...my reading definitely slowed down when M was smaller but now that he's fairly independent I have a little bit more "free" time. You'll get there too. I've read most of the Dean Koontz' up to his Odd Thomas series (generally his standalone) but haven't read either of the other two authors (I'll have to look into them - thanks!). As a kid I loved Stephen King but stopped reading him for a bit; last year his book 11/22/63 was generating quite a buzz that I picked it up. I really enjoyed it although I also am drawn to JFK stories. It is looong though so might not be a great one to put on your nightstand if you don't have a lot of time to read. :)

Heartymax: Great job with the HC!

Toni: Sorry PLB seemed like a mix bag for you. That is a bummer...any DOMS today at least?

Ok, I've got Athletic Training on tap this morning so I need to get cracking.

Hi everyone :)

Yesterday I wanted to do a split UB workout that would allow me to incorporate the 100RC's lateral raises, all under 1hr. I chose STS M2 W4 C/S/T (43min) + 100RC's. OMG my UB is FRIED! What I absolutely love about STS W4 is that the workouts are short but super effective! For the chest exercises, you have push-ups (which get neglected in M2, making a comeback in W4) plus all the other goodies like barbell bench presses & fly's. Ok, so I ventured out of my comfort zone (as inspired by Jennifer ;)) and decided to try bench fly's with my 25lbs (I have this fear about using anything over 20lbs for fly's). I was able to do quite a bit with good form! I'm happy about that :D. What I also adore about M2 W4 is the drop sets in shoulder's and tri's . This disc is definitely a fav of mine. Ahhh, I love my weight training days.

Toni
I chose to do PLB with dumbbells instead of a barbell. Such a pain changing the weight! Not to mention I find it a bit dangerous to do step-ups with a barbell (and my form suffers). I really do question why Cathe chose to do it that way, but there must have been a method to her madness I suppose.

TMJ
I hope your stomach feels better today.
Thanks for the recommend about Stephen King btw! Can I admit something to you  I'm a BIG Harry Potter fan. I have read all the books and absolutely adored them. And no! They're not just for kids! :p;)

Have a great day everyone

Hello,
I did Ride this morning.
I iced my leg the last 2 nights and has really made a world of difference but I'm staying low impact a while longer just to be safe.
I need to do some serious glute work - I'm having withdrawals - but I guess I'll be sticking with floor work and fire walkers so I don't stress my shin. Tash, I have noted your Ode to the Low Impact and will take a look at it. I'm ready:D

Books, FYI. Last year I read the Peter and the Starcatches series; it was so good. The series is the pre-story behind Peter Pan, which I don't even remember seeing quite honestly. Anyway, I really enjoyed all the books in the series; lots of adventure and humor.

Tash,
So glad your workouts have been so effective! Congrats on the 25# flys! I'm glad you have some nice DOMS goin' on:D
Aw, how sweet that Bella did a great job with her immunizations:)

So both you and TmJ honed in on the Marky Mark post - I did, too! LOL! Good Vibrations from Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch is one of my all-time favorite Feel Good songs:D I haven't heard of the supplements but I did recently see a picture of him - WOW:D

TmJ,
How did Athletic Training go? I LOVE that workout; it works every single muscle group, and I always especially feel it in my hamstrings which I especially love.
BTW, I hope you're feeling better soon.

Toni,
I'm sorry PLB didn't work out for you. I actually haven't done that one if you can believe it. Either way, thank you for the review on PLB floor work! I'm needing some glute floor work that won't stress my shin so I'll be sure to check that one out!
I'm glad your dog's okay, she must be a goat like Stacie's dog:D

alright - I'm gonna bounce off of here. Have a wonderful day!

Good afternoon ladies! Sorry about not posting yesterday. We had a bunch of meetings at work and I just didn't get around to it. Tuesday night was Low Impact Step + 30 minutes on the bike and last night was All Out Hiit Floor + discs followed by 4DS Chest and Back.

TMJ
Going to the movies sounds like so much fun! I would never say this in the OD forum but I honestly think it's ok to fall into popcorn now and then! ;) Which movie did you watch? Was it any good?

Btw, the Odd Thomas books from Koontz are some of my favorites. I like Koontz but I often feel that a lot of his stories end rather abruptly. There will be great set up and then a rapid finish. I used to read a lot Stephen King too but the foul language and some of the sexual references start to irritated me. I'm not a prude by any stretch and don't mind it in books if it's relevant to the story but it seems like in a lot of his the references actually detracted from the main story line. Sometimes they got just plain weird too.

Jennifer
The only spinning DVD I have so far is The Ride. Of course I will probably get Cycle Max in the future and I did include the bike workout in my preorder of the new DVDs. Do you have any recommendations?

Sorry the leg is still giving you problems. Do you think maybe the premix of Butts and Guts that uses the stability ball will give you your glute fix?

HeartyMax
I'm totally sure you can do all 8 of the push up / sit up combos! I will admit that though that it starts getting pretty grueling around 6. :D

Natasha
I hate taking Tyler for shots....it's an awful experience for everyone. I'm glad that Bella was so good through it! I used to almost cry when Tyler was baby and he would get them. He would give me this look of pure betrayal.

Great job on the plyo workout! I think I read in the forum somewhere that other people agreed that plyo legs is harder.

25lbs on chest flies is pretty awesome! Congrats on taking the challenge of increasing those weights!

Btw, if you like the Harry Potter series you might like the Sword of Truth books my Terry Goodkind. I thought they were a good read.

Toni
Thanks goodness the dog is ok! Ouch about the broken leg...and I was mad about the extra $60 I had to pay when my dog ran off and I couldn't catch it. $60 was the fee to get him out of dog jail after he got caught by the dog catcher.

Have a great day everyone!

Tash, I was looking around more on Chris Freytag's website and the downloads aren't exactly what I thought they were. I'm not sure you'd want to pay $2.99/week continuously and it looks like you'd have to buy the DVDs to get them for free. I'm sorry :(

Happy Friday! No workout yesterday. Wednesday afternoon a pit bull walked up behind our yard (outside the fence area ) and our neighbors son was outside playing ball. They have had a pit before so he wasn't scared as the dog seemed trained. His parents were not home so he called our home and DH went outside. The dog had ears clipped and no signs of violence. He didn't have on a collar so DH took our dogs collar and walked the pit around the neighborhood to see if he could find the owner. Two hours later, no luck. DS14 says the dog new all kinds of commands and it was evident that he was well cared for. We posted pics on FB and everything and no look. We eventually called the police since animal control was closed and they assured us they would send animal control that morning. My boys didn't want the dog roaming the neighborhood, so DH feed him and let him sleep in the garage. Animal control picked him up that morning and was able to find the owner which was a neighborhood across the street.

I did power hour this morning for a low rep total body strength training. I can't remember the last time I did that workout.

DS goes for his first day of volunteer work at the Humane Society after school today. He seems excited. I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Jennifer----Hope you get a good glute workout soon.

Oh yeah---DS has started spring weight training for football. He went on Monday for upper body. They were scheduled to do upper body again on Thursday since they didn't have training on Wednesday. He didn't go Thursday because he said he is still sore and he can barely lift his arms.....LOL! I told him that he has to work through it. :D

Well April Fools Day came early this year cuz' it's friggin' snowing here!!!

So Bella is sick :(. Not sure if it was from the infested doctors office  or the immunization she got. Could also be from the Baptism since she hung out with so many kids. Anyway, she's had a fever all day yesterday, did not eat anything, and passed out on the couch at 6:30pm. Today she threw-up and is still running a fever. Rough night for us both :(.

I downloaded All Step & Step Intervals from CTX yesterday. They are so cheap at $5.97, so I figured why not treat myself to some new steppie's :D. I tried the All Step and it was so much fun! Complex but not too tricky. Has my name written all over it .

Jennifer

Thanks for the tip about Chris Freytag. What a bummer about her downloads :(. I have been eying her w/o's, so I might just get the DVD's...we'll shall see. Isn't she great?! I love her blog! Very inspirational :).
Thanks for the recommend on the books! It sounds like a series I would get immersed in :).

Heartymax
How nice of your DH to take the stray dog in. I'm glad they found the owner!
If I volunteered at the Humane Society, it would break my heart. I would want to take all the animals home with me. It's wonderful your son is doing that :).

Stacie
How did the spinning go? I'm jealous!
I have not read a Dean Koontz book in about 4yrs, but I was addicted to them before I had Bella. My fav one, if I recall, was From The Corner Of His Eye. I also forgot to mention Dan Brown! I have all of his books. OMG Angels & Demons  LOVE IT!
Thanks for the recommend on the books!

Have a good day everyone :)

Good morning ladies! Last night I accidentally fell asleep with Tyler again. I did wake up after an hour or so but my neighbor was already asleep. Instead of doing step + core (like we were supposed to), I only did 30 minutes on the bike. The bike is pretty nice and extremely quiet. I like how the seat and handle bars can be adjusted both horizontally and vertically. My only complaint is that I didn't notice at pickup that the water bottle holder was broken. I might be able to fix that though. It looks like the metal piece broke in half so it sticks out a little. I think those pieces are cheap anyway. Oh, I like the monitor too. It keeps track of calories burned, the miles traveled, and the speed. An extra bonus is that it automatically comes on and off based on the pedaling.

Natasha
Happy Birthday!!!! Do you have any big plans for today? I hope that at least you and Bella are able to get some sleep and that she feels better today. Just a tip (although I'm sure you know this) but when Tyler was sick like that, I used to make him Popsicles from the pedialyte. I would freeze it and let him have it like that. It used to really help him with his fevers.

We are on tap for snow too! That reminds me that I need to check the weather report and found out how much we are getting.

TMJ
How did Athletic Step go? I have to admit...that's a virgin workout for me! I think I have only taken the wrapper off of it!

Jennifer
Thanks for the PM about the spinning DVDs! I will look up some of the ones you mentioned and hunt down that thread that was discussed. Right now, I have been using the monitor to just do intervals. 2-3 of easy riding followed by another 2-3 minutes of riding with the resistance high. I have the bike in the living room room right and I figure if I am watching TV (and not working on the laptop), I might as well burn some calories and do it from the bike! :D

HeartyMax
That was really nice of your DH to take in the dog. Many people are very scared of pits although I know lots of people that say they are nice dogs. I was surprised that pits were allowed in your neighborhood because they are banned through most of the Denver Metro area. It's a big fine if you are caught with one and they will take the dog away.

I hope DS has fun tomorrow at the Humane Society! I love animals so I always thought it would be fun to volunteer at one! Cute story about the DOMS for DS! I'm sure it will get better for him soon.

Have a fantastic day!

TGIF!!! It was a very lack luster workout week for me. One UB(4DS premix), 1 LB(PLB), and 1 core(RF Abdominal Strength). No cardio at all, but at least I'm keeping me strength up right???

I've been thinking about what I want to do to make sure I'm in shape for my hiking trip and what I've decided I need is all around strength. Upper, lower, core and cardio. So I've put together a rotation that lets me focus on each of those in a given week and then I'll just cycle the weeks evenly. I haven't decided if I'm going to do two weeks of a specific focus before switching focus. I may just do one week of each and keep rotating. This will fit in nicely with my workout ADD :) It will also allow me to cycle through some of the workouts that I haven't done yet  Here's what I'm thinking:

UB Focus
Sun: UB
Mon: Cardio
Tues: LB
Wed: Core
Thurs: Cardio
Fri: UB

LB Focus
Sun: Cardio
Mon: LB
Tues: UB
Wed: Cardio
Thurs: LB
Fri: Core

Core Focus
Sun: Core
Mon: Cardio
Tues: UB
Wed: LB
Thurs: Cardio
Fri: Core

Cardio Focus
Sun: Cardio
Mon: Core
Tues: Cardio
Wed: Rest <<--Adding extra rest day because HiiT workouts planned
Thurs: Cardio
Fri: TB

That's the plan anyway. But you know what they say about plan  I'm planning on a full RF rotation this summer and after that the new workouts should be here and I can work them into my routine.

Tasha
Happy Birthday!! I hope Bella feels better and you are able to have a fabulous day.

HeartyMax
I'm glad the dog found it's owner. Nice of you to help out.

Stacie
If I get a spin bike I will definitely need videos. I can't do any type of cardio machine without some type of instruction. Otherwise I just get bored and quit. I'm glad you are enjoying the bike so far!!

Jennifer
I totally forgot to do my Hip Thrusts today...LOL!! I've been trying to focus on my glutes also. I'm noticing some nice roundness back there, so I'm pleased :)
My co-worker(also a friend) asked me if I was doing anything different and I told him I was working on my butt. That got a raised eye brow look...LOL!!

TMJ
I hope your feeling better today. I had a hard time getting my workout in today also. But I dragged myself to it!!

Sorry for the long post :) Probably won't be back until Sunday. We are going to Columbus for another cheer weekend. Two more competitions to go. I'll be glad for the up coming month off before practice starts back up full swing.

My shins are good (finally, geesh!). This morning I did AOLIH and then PLB stability ball glute work; then I did the Ankle weight section of Butts and Guts. Yep - I got a nice glute fix this morning. Tomorrow is Upper body, the 4DS workout.

Happy Birthday, Tasha! I hope Bella feels better soon, so sorry she had to go and get sick on your birthday:mad: Congrats on your new Step downloads, though! That makes things a little better better;)
Oh - thank you for telling me that the 4DS upper body is on the DVDs. So excited to finally get to do it;)
We're expecting snow, probably getting it from you up there; or from my mom in Boston... she got a couple inches last night. The Groundhog should have just stayed sleeping!

TmJ,
I also am wondering how AT went?!
You are funny - I saw that you wished Tasha a year full of DOMS:D

Heartymax,
That's awesome about the dog; it really was nice of you and your family to step up and keep him safe. A really strange, dog-related thing happened to me Wednesday - I had to help a lady round up 4 dogs. Hers managed to bust through her door; I guess they really wanted out! luckily I saw the situation.

I haven't done Power Hour in a while, either, but I remember that it's a good one so I bet you feel nice and strong. BTW, I like that you told your son to work though it:cool:

Toni,
Congrats on your nice, rounded glutes! And for a coworker to notice and ask if you've been doing something different is extra motivating;)

Your workouts look very well rounded - and don't forget to keep up the glute work, it really does help keep the back strong! Speaking of, OMGosh - you were right about PLB stability ball... it was SO HARD:eek: Thanks;)

Good luck this weekend!

Stacie,
It's awesome that you have the bike in front of the TV! I'm glad you're so happy with it:) As for the water bottle holder, if you can build a Batman car no doubt you can fix that:cool:

I probably should try some of the other Spinning DVDs but I'm just not sure which ones I want to try:confused:

Have a super awesome evening!

Happy Sunday :)

Thanks so much for the b-day wishes everyone :). Unfortunately, it was a really crappy day for me :(. Bella has been sick with fever, vomiting, diarrhea. She seems to be doing better today (thank goodness!). Making sure she stayed hydrated was my main concern (thanks for the tip about the frozen Pedialyte Stacie!). Apparently this super virus is spreading like wild fire.

Yesterday DH was home so I headed out alone for some retail therapy :D. I went to the new Target. Ok, so please forgive me when I ask this, what's the big deal? I don't get it . The prices didn't blow my mind TBH. I think here in Canada, department/grocery/big box stores are vastly different from the ones in the US. It was also very busy, so perhaps I didn't have the patience to really scan the isles. On the upside, I scored a great pair of Saucony Catalyst running shoes at one of my favorite stores called National Sports. Happy b-day from me to me :D.

Toni
I love how your rotation has a different focus every week! I truly love hiking :).

Stacie
I'm so happy to hear the bike is doing well! I have been looking at bikes for about 1yr now on/off. The one thing that confuses me is the vast price range. Are the $400 bikes just as good as the $1,000+ ones? I know you usually get what you pay for, but if the higher-end price ones have all the bells and whistles, I don't really need all that. As long as it's quiet and the tension can be adjusted easily. Did you research your bike model?

Jennifer
I'm so happy to hear your shin is better! Your workout yesterday was awesome .
Did you do the 4DS UB premix yet? How did you like it?
BTW, do you watch The Dog Whisperer? That dude is amazing! I have been watching episodes every night for the past week. I knew dogs were a lot of work, but I never knew how much! He is very stern on his training philosophy of exercise, discipline, affection. What do you think of the show?

Happy Snowy Sunday.
I've got a crock pot of Chili Verde going:)

So, I've always preferred hard-copy books to an e-reader. I guess since I look at 2 monitors all day long at work and then play on the PC at home the last thing I wanted was an e-reader. Until Now. I realized that I could read so much more if I had an e-reader; no more buying books just to have them sit on my shelf or donate them after I've read them, or dealing with our lacking library. Getting as many instant downloaded books that I want for SO cheap (or even free) just finally made sense to me. I ordered the Kindle Fire HD 7"; in addition to the books I can also watch some movies and shows that I've had to either wait for on Netflix or just buy the DVDs. I looked at the Nooks and iPads, too, but in the end I thought the Kindle was more of what I was looking for.

So - wowza weight workout Saturday morning - 4DS upper body; that definitely is one tough workout! So many rounds! Thank you for turning me on to it! By the end of it I was so ready to be done:eek: For some of the pushups I subbed barbell bench presses using the turbo tower so I could really focus on the chest with heavy weights. Anyway, I feel my back and chest most of all today. By the time I got to Biceps I may have not gone as heavy as I should have.

This morning I did Cardio Leg Blast followed by the Barre bonus on XTrain Legs. I was STILL feeling my hamstrings pretty darn good from the glue workout a few days ago but I figured the quads and glutes would help take my mind off my hams. It did:)

Tash,
So glad you were able to get out for some retail therapy - nice shoes, by the way - but I am just so sorry to hear about Bella. Glad she's starting to feel a little better. I hope you and Mark stay healthy!
As for Target I like the quality and selection of their clothes, purses, and home goods compared to Walmart but I don't go to either place a whole lot.

The Dog Whisperer is a great show; we used to watch it a lot and it helped us with Whisper. Cesar is amazing to help so many people and dogs. It's true, some dogs really are hard and have issues and need very patient people - but some are very easy. They all need (gentle) firm discipline and exercise, and love and rewards:D They all just want to be loved, really.

Have a great day, everyone!
