Push It

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! My youngest son had an asthma attack a few days ago but he is doing well now. He had one 6 months ago. This time it was triggered by a cold. Poor fellow felt so bad but he is doing fine now. My thanksgiving workout was 45 minutes on the elliptical.

Stacie-- I have only heard wonderful things about Kumon. The people I know who used them absolutely love it. Trust me--- you are not alone in the parenthood struggles. I have a teenager so my problems just look different from yours:).

Toni-- your kid are going to love the gift. Luckily you ordered early!!

Tasha--Bella must have been excited about picture with Santa day. That was one kick butt lower body workout you did a few days ago.

Jennifer-- haven't done push ups in a while other than those in Cathe workouts.

My son loved his North Face jacket. It was a nice surprise for him. He got his cast off the other day so he just has to be extra careful next month to allow it to completely heal.

Are you all doing any Black Friday shopping??

I hope everyone had a good day today!

I skipped my workout today but plan to work hard tomorrow... not sure what it will be yet. This is when I really miss the rotations because the decision is already made for me... however I owe everyone a review on the Butt Bible's Upper Body - and I'm anxious to try it - so I will probably end up doing that one in addition to a kick butt cardio session:D

Tasha,
When you asked me about the yoga blocks I didn't realize until today that you literally meant blockS with an s as in more than one... I was thumbing through a magazine today (Self) and I saw a write-up about using 2 blocks for instability. Wow, and kind of ouch - it doesn't look very comfortable! But maybe it's not too bad, I don't plan to try it, though.
The block I use is to hold on to instead of reaching all the way to the floor in some poses. SO, let me know if you go that route. With the two blocks, I mean:)

It sounds like your evening workouts are going well! Glad you're still getting some DOMS:cool:

Bella told Santa she wants a puzzle, but back at the ranch (funny!) she tells you she wants an iPad - that is interesting!

Heartymax,
So glad your son is okay after his asthma attack, and that your other son's hand is cast-free! And how nice that you gave him a North Face jacket before Christmas - and since he loves it that probably mean's he's wearing it! Task accomplished:cool:

As for Black Friday shopping, I am going to be at Barnes and Noble to get donations for gift wrapping; while I'm there I am going to shop for my 2 and a half year old nephew and my 6 and a half year old niece - other than that I don't imagine I'll do a lot of shopping.

What about you? Cyber Monday is a big deal but I'm pretty sure I won't go that route, either. I shop on-line a LOT but this year for Christmas I feel like staying local as much as possible which also will cut some of the shipping cost. The first weekend in December we're going to an outlet mall - should be fun!

Stacie,
So glad to hear that you made it to San Antonio safe and sound although tired. That is a bummer about your boss needing you to get things done before you could leave:(

How is the weather there? I hope you're not cold especially after I told you that it would be warm there!

Toni, Keep rockin'!

Have an awesome night, everyone:D

Hope everyone enjoyed their Turkey Day!

Can you believe Canada capitalizes on Black Friday too?. The only thing I'm interested in is a fish sale at my local aquarium store (for pets, not to eat :p).

Yesterday my w/o was Supreme 90-Day back & chest (25min only and I'm feeling the pain today!) plus a 1 Mile Leslie Sansone Walk. I meant to tell you guys, not sure if I did already, but I really like Tom Holland from Supreme 90-Day. At one point he says "no more light weights ladies! If you want to change your body, you have to go heavy!". He reminds me of Cathe so much. If he produced another workout series, I would jump on it like white on rice!

Jennifer
Ha, ha, no 2 blocks for this chick! For some reason I thought I needed two, or I'm not sure where my mind was when I wrote that post . One block is fine and dandy by me! I don't want any instability in my Yoga poses, thanks .

Heartymax
I'm sorry about your DS asthma attack :(. I'm glad he is doing better.

Stacie
Glad you arrived in San Antonio safe & sound. Have fun :).

Enjoy Black Friday ladies! Stay away from the electronic stores! They look crazy!

My post Thanksgiving workout was 45 minutes on the elliptical. All those carbs had me weighed down but I managed to get through it.

Tasha-- I didn't do any shopping today. The ladies in my other check in really like Supreme 90 also.

Happy Black Friday evening people!

So, sadly, the Upper Body workout (L3) in Butt Bible was not up to par - the movements are fast and she only uses 1 set of dumbbells... one set doesn't work because obviously some of the muscle groups are stronger than others (like going from rows to rear delt flys).

It was high rep sets, and the exercises are much different than Cathe's exercises which did make it interesting but not better of course and it felt a lot less professional that's for sure.

She seemed to target the Triceps the most, and she hardly touched the chest (only did the triceps pushups).
If I am sore at all tomorrow - there's a chance I will be because she did a lot of sets and reps - I will let you know.

Either way, I'm glad I didn't purchase the Upper Body DVDs separately. I don't imagine I will do it again.

Since I also needed cardio I did Low Impact Challenge. I didn't find it to be much of a challenge (I think I've been too conditioned:D); I really wanted a more cardio-intense workout and it didn't do it for me.

Tomorrow I will do Imax3. Funny, seems that one is becoming my favorite!

Tash white on rice - LOL!
I've marked him down, Mark Holland. Is he from Holland? Sorry, had to go there:eek:

BTW, thanks for the good Thanksgiving wishes:)
So you all celebrate Black Friday, too, but it depends on when our Thanksgiving falls. That is interesting! Did you hit the electronic stores by chance? Or the fish store for some pets rather than meals?! LOL!

I had planned to shop at Barnes and Noble after my wrapping shift however the shift after mine brought in a surprise - an ex boyfriend! He's never been involved with Greyhound rescue. I think he works with the girl who said she works with the Coordinator from what I over-heard... so he must be trying to get into her pants! LOL! Anyway, I decided to split before I had to talk to him. I never - in a hundred years - would have thought that our paths would ever cross again. Well, at least I look better in my jeans now than when we were dating, and I mean a lot better :D

Gotta get - Laters!

Hi everyone!

Today I wanted to do Imax 3...but didn't. Instead I did the step portion of Intensity (all those damn plie jacks too :eek:) + 4DS High Intensity Step portion. The whole workout came in at around 60min.

Oh ya, yesterday's w/o was this:

Bootcamp Calorie Burn - Workout Video - ExerciseTV - YouTube

I wanted something light, easy, short, and this fit the bill. It's funny, under the comments people rated this workout as very hard. HA! Obviously they don't workout to Cathe :D. It was fun though, and I really like the trainer. He is pretty funny at times :D.

Jennifer
After you told us you were scheduled to do Butt Bible UB, I went and looked at the clips again on youtube. You know, I didn't really like her form in them. I thought I was just being picky, as I tend to be with weight work, but then I see you gave it a negative review so I guess we were both on the same page. I'm sorry it sucked :(. At least her butt ones are good :D.
Black Friday and Boxing Day is not as crazy here as it is over there. I was looking at some video's and completely did a freak out . I've never seen anyone getting trampled on, running and pushing others, pepper spraying, and basically having such disregard for human life! Even when I was younger and went out on a Boxing Day (which is very hectic, busy and hurried), everyone just politely waits in line. No one really runs in when they open the doors, although some can get rude and pushy. And this was in Toronto, the most populated city in Canada. Is it really worth it for a tv or toaster? I don't get it.
Oh wow about your ex-bf! It really is a small world after all. You must have felt pretty damn good that you look better now than when you were dating (in your words, not mine -- I'm sure you still looked hot ;)). Did you tell Craig? ;):D.

Heartymax
Great job on T-Day damage control with that 45min elliptical workout.

Hey everyone!! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!! Ours was nice. We host at our house. Hubby cook :) I did not workout on Thursday or Friday. To make up for it I did Crossfire today :eek: I used to have a bit of dread with that workout, but not anymore. I did the Crossfire + Core premix. I finished the entire thing with only about 1 minute of additional rest in different spots. And I did all the crab kicks in the first set and I did 16 of the second set, which is at a faster tempo. That is a huge improvement for me with that workout so I'm quite pleased :)

I think I told folks about me getting a new Mac, well I have it!! I'm super excited because I also bought a really nice scrapbooking program. I did a baby scrapbook for Brandon the old fashioned scrapbook way, but I never did one for Jasmine. And she has not let me forget it!! I just don't have the time to cut our all the stuff and go to the store to find the paper and all that. But now with digital scrapbooking it's so much easier!! I did four pages in about an hour!! And if I don't like something all I have to do is change it. I'm not stuck with a page I don't like forever. I'm super excited!!

HeartMax
I'm glad your son is doing better. Asthma is no fun!!

Tasha
I like how you match your workouts to your moods or needs for the day. I've been doing the same kind of thing lately and I really like it. I don't feel as obligated to workout now. I just do it because I want to and I do what I will enjoy or need that day!!

Jennifer
I have not done IMAX 3 in a LOOOOOONG time!! I did IMAX 2 last week and was quite pleased with my performance. Maybe I'll throw in IMAX 3 this week and see how I do.

Jennifer----You better believe the ex noticed how "hot" you are looking too. I bet he tried to sneak as many look as he could without you noting that he was looking. Imax 3 will never been on my last of favorites. Have fun!

Toni--Cross Fire definitely makes up for two rest days. It still brings a little dread factor for me and I still need some periodic extra few seconds of rest. Have fun with your new MAC and putting the scrapbook together. My youngest son also pointed out to me that his baby book is not filled all the way like his big brother.

Tasha---funny how people think an instructor is tough and we are wondering when the intensity will increase. I hear people talk about how tough JM is and there is no way I think I could ever get the kind results from doing her workouts as I do with Cathe. JM is okay for a change every now and then but never is my primary workouts. I hate the way she walks around and talks during the workouts.

Saturday's workout was Butts and Gutts and Today's workout was To the Max. I love the core in this one. I sub planks for the release push ups. I feel good today. Don' feel as bloated as I did on Friday :D

I didn't do any shopping. A matter of fact, I have not left the house since Wednesday. I have enjoyed relaxing and watching football and catching a movie here or there. I have not watched any QVC because that show is tempting during the holidays. I cannot watch it this time of the year without pulling out the credit card so so I am protesting:eek:. They do have some good stuff and I have always been pleased with my purchases. I have only returned a few things in all my years of shopping.

I haven't made my Christmas list yet, but I have a few ideas. I don't usually do a lot of shopping so no stress. I know how to keep my Christmas list very short. :D

Good morning!

I am not feeling - even a little bit - of the BB upper body *workout* I did on Friday. Guess maybe I should hit the upper body today but I still haven't decided. I'm not really in the mood to do too much, quite frankly.

Tasha,
I did tell Craig about the ex because I was supposed to shop for Christmas gifts and didn't end up doing it. It sure is a small world, at least sometimes!

Black Friday is out of control. You're right, it's scary; the amount of people who just don't regard human life at all... that is, until it happens to them. I was only half-way kidding when I said I didn't think I'd get trampled at Barnes and Noble!

I checked out the Bootcamp link, Kendal Hogan cues very well and he's very energetic! The workout does look fun, I like the way he pieces moves together; step-style but not with the step. Maybe if he stayed with the intensity a bit longer than 4 to 8 counts and cut down the rest time it would be a powerhouse! Having fun is key to enjoyment and it does look like a fun workout:)

I like the combo of Intensity's step with 4DS Higher Intensity step; great idea!

Heartymax,
How nice that you haven't had to leave the house since Wednesday! I don't get too many of those breaks but when I do I definitely enjoy them! It's great that you like to watch football, that's a great way to hang out with the family:) I usually read a book or magazine, or sometimes bring out the laptop so I can hang out with Craig while he's watching Football or Golf.

I've heard a lot of people are happy with QVC. I've never watched it but I can see how it would be an enabler!

As for my Christmas list, it isn't super long to begin with but I do have a tendency to overspend! I'm learning to ease off that a bit.

B&G with a TTM follow-up sounds like a bun-burner! Good idea to get more ab work by adding the extra planks:)

Toni,
Congrats on the new MAC, and I've heard such good things about the electronic scrapbooking programs! Some of them will even send you an actual book when you are finished - or is that all of them? Are you having a book sent?

WTG on kicking such awesome butt on the crab kicks and doing a great job on CrossFire and Imax2! Surely that burned some major Thanksgiving calories.

That's cool that your hubby cooked, he has that in common with Craig; it's so nice to not have to be the responsible cook all the time! I'm glad you were able to host, too; it's nice having company - a good reason to deep clean the house and also not have to drive anywhere.

Hi Stacie!

Have a super great day you fab and fit moms!

Hello everyone :) (do you guys still have today off work?)

Yesterday's w/o was S&G in it's entirety. Ha, ha, the workout has so many plank exercises . You guys know how much I love that . Actually, I did not find it dreadful at all. I was able to do all the planks, even the walking ones with push-ups, to tempo. The ab & toning section is THE BOMB! I love how unique and effective that workout is, hitting the entire body from all angles.

Yesterday we bought some new tropical fish! Three beautiful metallic guppies! Finger's crossed they don't kick the bucket early. We got our water tested and the levels were great, so we got the go-ahead. They seem to be getting along well with my three existing Danio's. There is one Danio, her name is Goldy (yes, she is gold) and she is sort of aggressive. We were a bit worried about her and the new fish, since our tank is non-aggressive community peaceful fish. Go figures we would end up with a bully :(.

Jennifer
Sorry no DOMS :(. Quite frankly, I have a hard time believing DVD fitness trainers get that great physique by doing their own workout. I trust Cathe might, except she has access to her own gym. Regardless, she never "wussies" down her intensity . But JM? NO WAY! I doubt she does all high reps/low weight to get those arms .
I love your new signature. It's 100% true to life.

Heartymax
You are right about results, JM, and all other trainers besides Cathe. That woman is in a league of her own IMO. I might sound like a Cathe-snob, but I don't give a hoot!
Good for you that you had the time to stay home and relax and took advantage of it. I also have a fairly short Xmas shopping list. I feel Xmas is primarily for children and people in need. I give to many charities and donate food and clothing. I honestly don't think every single "adult" relative in my family needs a gift. I don't expect anything, and I would much rather the money be put to good cause. I have everything I need, and it does not include material objects.

Toni
How amazing that your hubby cooks! Mine cleans (and well!), and I cook so I guess that's a fair deal :D.
Congrats on Crossfire! I have come to the conclusion that EVERY cardio w/o produces dread for me :D.
Congrats on the new Mac! How exciting! The scrap-booking programs sounds very nice. My cousin, who is a HS comp-tech teacher, raised all this money to replace the PC's in his class with Mac's! It was a huge accomplishment for him, and a pretty big deal for the school. He put so much heart and soul into the entire process. I don't think any other HS in Toronto has a class full of Mac computer's.

Wrote a book today, sorry . Have a lovely day ladies :)

No day off for me today and I overslept so I'm going to have to skip my workout:(. However after work today I may do PUB.

Yesterday I ended up doing Crossfire! So much for not being in the mood for much. I knew I'd get into it once I got started. I modified the Tuck Jumps with pulse squats since I had done quite a bit of jumping with Imax3 the day before.

I'm with you gals that doubt JM and Pauline Nordin got the arms they have from their workouts! LOL!

Tash, I love guppies! I had some and they are hearty fish. They do to overpopulate quickly! Sorry about your bully. Maybe the guppies will teach Goldie a lesson;)

Way to Go on Slide N Glide! So glad you did the planks so well and didn't mind it so much! Doing those walking plank pushups - especially to tempo - is so hard! Ya know, I actually haven't done that one in it's entirety:eek: Thanks for the review! I just don't like band work; I feel about it almost the way you feel about plank work.

By the way, as for the signature line, I couldn't agree more!

Gotta scram. Have an awesome day!

So - apparently Pauline Nordin definitely does not get her arms from her BB UB workouts. Interesting article, though, and I enjoyed reading about her.
T NATION | Pauline Nordin Exposed

HA! I knew it! She should have been lifting a heavy barbell instead of those little 5lbs'ers :confused:.

It was a very interesting article indeed. I love reading about the lifestyles of fitness trainers. I wish Cathe would come out with a book herself. I feel so many people would LOVE to read about her trails & tribulations within the health/fitness industry. Very little is known about Cathe & crew. I think a book would be refreshing and widely anticipated -- just as much as her workouts are, perhaps even more so.

Jennifer--- whose does Cross Fire when they are not in the mood for working out??? I can barely get through it on a good day.

Tasha--- sounds like you have mastered the plan to get the aquarium ready for the new fish. I'm a Cathe snob too :).

Today's workout was Meso 2 chest, shoulders and triceps.

Hey all. Today was Drill Max. Believe it or not, that is the first time I have ever done that workout. I think I attempted it one day a long time ago and just wasn't in the mood for it. I was able to tackle the entire thing today. Ok, the section where she is holding the stability ball and moving it around fries my back!! Who would have thunk it??? Overall, I really liked the workout. My legs were still a little sore from Crossfire(two days ago ), which made it a bit more challenging, but I was able to make it through. I also think I was glad there wasn't much repetition in this workout. Made the workout go a lot faster.

HeartyMax
My STS set still sits unused in my exercise room #sigh. I'm not sure what to do about that. I'm really just not in the mood for a 90 day split body program. However, I would like to do Meso 2. Maybe I'll just do pieces parts of it. We will see.

Tasha
Great, now you have enabled me to get Slide & Glide :) I'm loving me some plank work. I often cheat the ab sections that are tacked onto other workouts, so now I'm really into works that build core moves into the workout. At least I feel like I got some ab work done even if it wasn't a completely dedicated segment.

Jennifer
Crossfire when you aren't in the mood to workout??? What do you do when you ARE in the mood to workout...LOL!!

Good morning :)

Yesterday was supposed to be a rest day, however I did not get out for my daily walk. I did Leslie's 2 mile walk + 20min of Yoga Relax. Total time 40min. You know what, I think they made a mistake naming the 2 Cathe Yoga's . I find Relax harder than Max. I love how it stretches my muscles and lengthens them. I feel sooo good doing Yoga in the evening :). It prepared me for bed and I got a nice sleep :).

Toni
If you like HC, you'll love S&G (or so I think you would). I find the toning section to be very unique, using only the S&G discs and a firewalker band. Believe it or not, the next day my muscles were sore. No weights are used during this workout.
Congrats on Drill Max!

Jennifer
Not in the mood and then you did CF?:D. Once you get "into" it, it's hard to turn back, I know. WTG on pushing through!
I had no idea you had guppies. They are such sweet fish. Apparently, all my guppies are males, so I don't think overpopulation will be a problem ;). Even if they did have fry, would they not eat them anyway? That's what I've read. Unless you separate the fry, which I won't do. Who am I to mess with the circle of life? :D.
I had no idea you disliked band work. I love the burn I get from it .

Heartymax
Meso 2 is so much fun. I need to revisit it.

Stacie
Hope you had a great little vacation.

Good morning,

I know, I know! Doing CrossFire when I wasn't in the mood! Well, I waited it out (I had time since it was a Sunday)... I did other things for a while and then I pushed myself into it. It was just the workout I needed to do and I knew it - it really felt good once I got going.

Yesterday after work I did PUB - feeling it already, and my arms were shaking for a while last night!

This morning I did the cardio parts of To The Max followed by the floor work section of Butts and Guts.

Tash,
I don't have guppies anymore; I gave them to a good home before I moved in with Craig. At that time we cumulatively had a Red Eared Slider (semi-aquatic turtle; Jack, short for Jumpin' Jack Splash), the 2 cats, and 2 dogs. The fish were the easiest to say goodbye to.

Way to go on keeping up with the Yoga! And that you got a good night's sleep to boot is even better:)

It's only been recently that I started to hate band work, actually. Some exercises are okay, but mostly I find them uncomfortable to use. I still want to give the strength section of Slide and Glide a try. I'll let you know how it goes:)

Toni,
I can relate to Drill Max - that ball is more of a workout than it looks! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Way to go, too, since your legs were already fatigued!

Hi Heartymax and Stacie

Have a great day everyone:)

Toni---I understand the motivation needed to commit to doing STS. I have done the entire thing twice and just Meso 1 and 2 a few times. I started Meso 1 twice recently and didn't get pass week 2. I just decided that I am not ready to committ to that right now, but I love Meso 2 so I am going to do it for the month of December. I also think it will get my body ready for Xtrain. STS also gives me DOMS like very few workout. Question for you--I looked at the HC website and noticed the workouts are 45 minutes. How do you fit a 45 minute plank/ab workout into your routine. Between getting in cardio and strength training, I don't know how I can committ several days to doing this. How do you work this out?

Tasha
---Thanks for bringing up S&G. I chose it for my workout today because I haven't done in a very long time.

I must admit that one can not underestimate the low impact challenge of slide and glide. With the experience of After Burn those sliding plank push ups were not so bad:D

Hi Jennifer and Stacie!

Happy Hump Day :)

Yesterday's w/o was 4DS Back & Chest (30min). Lots of push-ups! I was able to do all the sets of full/2 high-end partials (that's 1 set). There are about 10 sets of those, I believe. The next round of push-ups, which has low-ends partials, I can only do a few of those and then I have to drop down to my knee's. There are also decline push-ups and around-the-clock push-ups near the end, which by that point I have nothing left and have to drop down to my knee's.

I wanted to bring something up I read on the OD forum. There is this lady, fit44, she just posted about a fitness trainer Jamie Eason. Here is her website:

Bodybuilding.com - Jamie Eason's LiveFit Trainer - Bodybuilding.com

Apparently her philosophy is maximum heavy strength training with minimal cardio w/o's (preferably hiit) to lose body fat %. Of course, the clean eating is the most important for optimal results. Me being a big fan of weight training as opposed to cardio, I'm interested to see if there is any merit to this. I would never neglect my cardio though, but it's still interesting to read nonetheless. With Cathe's Xtrain: her heavy strength + hiit workouts, I might give it a try. The hardest part for me though, would be the reducing carbs. Even Cathe recommends Paleo, I just know it's not an eating lifestyle I can stick with forever.

Jennifer
I'm sorry the bands are uncomfortable for you to use :(. I had no idea :(.
I love that you have a home full of pets :). Being an animal lover myself, I would someday love to have a dog (when Bella get's older) and perhaps a few more cats when mine pass. Ideally, I would like to adopt from a shelter, since so many animals are without homes :(. It breaks my heart.

Have a good one ladies!

Happy Hump Day!! I have sick kids this week. I think Brandon is getting better, but Jasmine is woke up this morning with fever. I'm taking her to doc soon(Brandon went yesterday). She has a cheerleading competition this weekend, so I want to make sure she doesn't need to be treated for anything.

Yesterday I barely did the kicking combos of KickMax. I just wasn't feeling it. Today I'm taking a rest day. I'm planning on HC V2 tomorrow.

HeartyMax
I used HC as a total body workout. You get a good upper body workout and there are some leg moves in it as well. It's nothing like a Cathe leg workout, but they do burn!! When I first started them I did 2 per week. Now I do 1 per week plus 1 total body circut of other strength workout. I feel functionally strong, which is what I comfortable doing right now. Right now I'm not in the mood for huge DOMS, so my schedule works well for me until I'm feeling more committed.

Tasha
I've heard lots of people say they don't need cardio and only strength. I could never do that. I love me some cardio. Let us know what your results are if you try it!!

Got to run to take Jazz to the doc.
