Progress, not Perfection - 2012 - Month #1

Deanna - there's no way that you were/are dehydrated... no way !!! He probably just assumed you were because most people are. Geeze...

FnV - great job on Turbo !!! I really liked it.. even though parts were much too difficult for me.

Y'all are going to laugh when you hear what I used for my Barre... lol. I have a 4-tiered cat tower in the living room for my 2 precious kitty cats. Like all of my furniture, the cat tower is also on felt pads... so I just slid that baby over into the middle of the living room floor (hardwoods - very slideable) and used that for my Barre. The 3rd horizontal platform (up from the floor) was the perfect height.

One of my cats sat on the top tier and watched me from above... lol

Next time I do TB, I'm going to try it with shoes... I debated this morning and went with shoeless. I think shoes will be better.

Stacy - the Italian turkey sausages that I get from my regular supermarket don't have any nitrites or nitrates in them... so maybe the kielbasa doesn't either....

We await your Turbo Barre report Stacy !!!!
And Deanna - I will have to Google the Insanity program... I'm not familiar with that !!!

I'm off to figure out what I can have for dinner..... I did not plan well today... I'm almost at my max for carbs and definitely at my max for saturated fat..... so I need to eat some low fat protein and some veggies with no butter or salad dressing. I'll probably just chop up some green pepper, cukes and tomato and eat them plain.

I don't have any FF Greek yogurt in the house... darn.. that would be perfect......

We CAN do this... we ARE doing this !!!!!

Cathe Friedrich's Turbo Barre workout video exercise dvd this is Turbo Barre, a new Cathe from the Low Impact Series, it was the first in the "Susan Rotation" Cathe evilly created for Susan.

Have you previewed the LIC portion for tomorrow? It has a met value of 7.5 according to the workout manager. I've never tried the burpees on the discs, that looks like the most likely to be modified move, i think! I will do a walk then cue up the workout. It looks really intense, I might even chunk the walk into 15 min warm up, circuit step workout, 15 min walk. OMG, there she goes doing dips with one hand... (Susan, are your wrists strong enough for periods of brief hold rather than a series of dips?)

I had nap but still tired. Man wants me to bring him food. I made ground turkey taco meat and had it over arugula (yeah, that was weird) and added some low fat cheese and salsa and grape tomatoes and an entire avocado.

Veggies = arugula, avocado, salsa, tomato, blueberries, .5 banana

I need to finish soup, but not sure how to proceed. Have cooked chicken shredded and stock that has had fat removed.

Turbo Barre is done, yay!! The only part I skipped was the one-legged squats (where she had the other leg bent and "raised to the sky") those were too much stress on my knees. I also substituted tricep kickbacks for the tricep dips as my wrists arent flexible that way. I love the ab section, only had to modify the straight legged bicycle move.

Dinner was grilled cheese sandwiches with a broiled tomato slice on it. Hubby sliced the tomatoes, seasoned with salt, pepper and dried basil, and when they were done put them on the grilled cheese. We used fat free cheese and low calorie bread so my entire sandwich was 135 calories. Yes, it had carbs, but was calorie friendly. I had a small bowl of Campbell's bean soup, carbs there too, but also fiber.

I'm making a new soup recipe tomorrow, not one I would normally like but I think my hubby will like it. It has some cumin and chili powder in it, tomatoes, and beef stew meat.

FnV...for your soup...maybe add in some shredded kale or spinach, celery, onion, if you want a little substance you could dice up a sweet potato which also adds color, maybe toss in a few bay leaves and black pepper to season. Could also add in a can of diced tomatoes depending on the flavor you're looking for.

Off to relax...

P.S. I'm just doing the treadmill tomorrow. I dont want to do any light weights since I just did that Saturday and will be doing PUB Wednesday.

Insanity done, and it was Insane!!!!!

Still working on my 100oz almost gone, I am going to be up going to the bathroom all night.

See you all in the AM for coffee.
Deanna

We are kicking butt !!!

Go Team !!!!!

I previewed part of tomorrow's workout... yikes.... looks tough...

I'm done in.. going to bed to read..

See y'all for coffee...

Good day all the way around Team !!!! Woo Hoo !!!

We CAN do this.... we ARE doing this !!!

Greetings coffee chuggers,

Susan, LOL at your cat staying on the cat tree while you did your workout. Was he looking at you with loving support or being typical cat and seemed somewhat disdainful? : D
There is a thread under the newer workout about using tower vs whatever for TB, you should post...

I was so wiped out yesterday eve...do you think it is from working out? I was also behind in my sleep and have been propping myself up with caffeine. I went to sleep before 10 last night. Feel better today.

Primal Mark is strongly opposed to what he calls "chronic cardio" which I think are hour long cardio at greater than 75 percent intensity. His point is that it is a source of inflammation, injury and not a good way to burn fat. I am reading his Blueprint for Fitness e book from his web site bit by bit. Conversely, he is a proponent of long moderate cardio, biking/hiking ~ I think around 50 percent intensity, which can be hard to judge and will look different on different fitness levels.

So, with that in mind...I will complete the treadmill portion of today at moderate intensity and keep the intensity somewhat reigned in while doing the step/circuit portion. So today i will straddle the fitness fence...ha ha.

Deanna, what is on your workout plate today?

Another coffee chugger reporting in :D There is something so wonderful about that first cup of coffee in the morning..... ahhhhhhh....

FnV - I think you're wiped out from lack of sleep. Anytime my routine gets majorly messed up..... as your's was being at the ER the other night until 3 A.M...... it takes a couple of days to settle back into a regular routine. The stress really messes one up.

I haven't read the Primal Mark fitness book yet, but from what I've read in the 21 Day Plan.. yes.. he's against long intense cardio.... he advocates moderate cardio, "lifting heavy things" about 3 x/week and a sprint once a week. Not sure on the details of all that..... but we certainly will be "lifting heavy things" 3x per week with Cathe :D

I do think that alternating weight workouts with Cathe and doing some kind of moderate cardio 3x/week is the way... for me.. to go. I like my 1 hour moderate treadmill walks... and I love my Cathe weight workouts.....

now.... about that "sprint" thing 1x/week... lol.... I need to read more about that.. not sure what he means in practical terms.

My plan for the day... or un-plan .. as it were..

Have to go to the radiologist this morning.. annual mammogram and my primary doc has ordered a bone density test while I'm there (I'm of the age where he thinks that's a good thing to do... lol) ... not sure what that involves.. but it looks like a long visit at the radiologist's office.

Waiting room... mammogram.. back to the waiting room.
Waiting room... bone density test.... leave...

soooo... shall have to do my workout this afternoon.... I hate that I have this appt on the 2nd day of the rotation..... oh well.. might as well get it over with...

more later...

Make it a great day my friends !!!

We CAN do this... we ARE doing this !!!!

ETA: I'm sore.. but not as sore as I thought I was going to be... lol

Morning :)

I am with you Susan, nothing like that 1st cup of coffee in the am. :)

I did not finish all my water yesterday however, I would say I got over 70oz down. I filled up my 100oz contain again today and will try to get it all down. I was up twice lastnight runing to the bathroom.

Insanity will be my choice of exercise again today. I will probably be doing this one until I get tired of Shaun T (Insanity Instructor), screaming you can do this. I enjoy the intensity of the workout, sweat runs off my body I am in the shower. :) I wish I had the energy to do it twice a day in the AM and PM, maybe one day.

Okay, time to go to work and deal with these heifers!

Make it a good day ladies :)
Deanna

Coffee chugger #3 reporting for duty!

I got up to brown some beef to add to my crock pot soup. It takes 10 hrs so had to get that step done. Hopefully I'll like it, fairly sure hubby will.

I had a lot of little errands to run today but if I dont get them done, there's always another day. I'm thinking of just a 3 mile walk on the treadmill with varying inclines, that program usually takes me 50 minutes OR I'll do the 3.7 pace at 1 degree incline for 30 minutes as Cathe suggests and follow that with either a short step workout or a 30 min ride on my stationary bike. I'm leaning toward the latter b/c the first choice is my "comfort zone" workout. I'm a little sore today but not too bad.

Hope your testing goes okay, I've got to schedule my mammogram here soon too...

Deanna..great job on jumping right back into things with Insanity!! That's fabulous!!

FnV...I'm glad you got some sleep. I know how it feels to drag as there are many days each week I get only 6 hours of sleep at night. How's the soup coming along?

Check back later!

I got my errands done and then while procrastinating my workout, spent some money!

I bought the Low Impact Step Challenge workout that is on tap for today's rotation, I bought the Firewalker Bands to use with Turbo Barre, and then I bought a treadmill workout called Walking Strong by Tracey Staehle, looked interesting!

I think I'll workout here soon....

Workout is done, I did opt for the first choice...my 3 mile treadmill walk at random inclines, took me 55 minutes. I walk at 3.3 which is a brisk walk for me. I tried 3.7 and I dont think that'll work for my legs...it's way too fast of a walk, and a bit too slow for a jog. Not sure I can jog 30 minutes straight without my knee screaming, so I'll have to improvise when Cathe's 3.7 treadmilll workout comes up next.

Off to look for some food, I hadnt eaten lunch before my treadmill and was feeling a bit lightheaded the last 1/2 mile.

Deanna...I'll have to checkout that link. I'm on my feet all day at work as it is!

I'm home from the doctor's office.. had my lunch and will shortly head to the gym for my 30 minutes of treadmill.

While I was eating lunch, I was previewing the Bonus Segment of the Low Impact Challenge DVD that's on today's rotation.

Cathe's crazy :p My butt and hamstrings are really sore now.. they have gotten worse as the day has gone on... and she thinks I'm going to be able to do all that?????? lol

But.... I will do it..... I really will !!!

Great video from The Firm, Deanna. Terrific ideas !!!! Have you tried that yet? It would make a nice break from sitting in an office chair all day.

more later.....

Susan, glad you had uneventful doc visits and glad you checked in to say you were on your way to working out.

I am having trouble getting activated (I keep thinking of chemistry curve where in order for the reaction to occur, you have to tip the activation energy point, I am using coffee as a catalyst to decrease that point to set off the workout reaction. Can you tell I am back in school?)

Oh, and nothing like a session in a dressing room with mirrors to know how much you need to work out! But at least I now have a powerful gunmetal grey sports bra which will make my workouts much more effective, lol.

UPDATE: I went for 30 minute bike ride and came home and hit the LIS LIC Bonus segment. It actually wasn't that hard since I wasn't trying for perfection or intensity. In fact, every time I felt like I was going into overdrive, I calmed it back down. Holding back like that is NOT in my nature.

Oddly enough, in the beginning, she steps up and then lunges off back of step, staying on the same side, with shoulder raises. I'll be darned if I could get on the correct foot...I reversed and tried again, failed again, so then I just did alternating lunges w/ no shoulder raises. : P

Good job on the workout and shopping, Stacy!

Deanna, I watched the video, are you going to try to incorporate some of that into your work day?

Soup turned out OK. As dd put it, she wouldn't order it every time she went to the restaurant. LOL. I tried to finish it before I read Stacy's suggestions or heard back from my Georgia home cookin' friend.

Hey Ladies,

That was a pretty good video wasn't it? I saved the link to my desktop, if I have some down time I will try to incorporate a few exercises into my work day. :)

Deanna, I am so glad you are feeling feisty again!

Susan how did your workout go? It was pretty late in the day to get started~

Stacy, are you working tom? How easy will it be to fit in PUB? I have it cued up, but will have to sandwich it in...Wed is my super busy day.

I'm up to 112 carbs today so far
Protein shake w/ fruit, salad and inside of gyro (leaving pita behind), some chicken dense soup, mixed nuts.
Plants were banana, blackberries, peach, small amt of salad, and a little white potato from the soup.

Have to write something for speech class tomorrow...

The new soup recipe I tried as fantastic! Definitely making that one again!

Yes, I'm working tomorrow and it's a long 12+ hr day for me as well, have to be out the door by 7am. I have PUB cued up as well, but I may have to do it in chunks. I'm glad it's upper body day though my legs could use the rest!

:::glurging coffee::::

Stacy, do you have a link or easy to copy and post recipe for the soup?

I have to leave at 7:50...I need a list of words that have changed in meaning in my lifetime. or words that have double meanings---as a result of the people or culture.
It doesn't have to be a long list...
examples
gay
mullet
bad
cracker
You get the point... shoot some at me if you can think...for some reason, I think of gay and then just stop.

Oh and in Open Disc there are a Cathy/Keurig (stacy) and an Insanity (deanna) threads. Did you see them?

Good morning, chugging coffee, have to leave in 10 minutes.

I'll post the soup recipe later tonight or tomorrow.

I havent looked at the open posts you mentioned.

Double/new meaning words...only thing that pops into my head right now is "remote"....ie. distant or now the "remote control". Does that count?? Maybe "apple"....the fruit and the computer?? Not sure if that's what you're looking for...gotta go!

BBL! Have a good day everyone! PUB tonight!
