My cat is hilarious, he always ignores me when I work out and hangs out in another room but the second the stretch begins he is by my side because he knows it is almost over and I'll be giving his belly a rub. I don't know how he does it, it doesn't matter if I'm stepping, doing kickbox, sts, whatever...he just knows, he runs over and it makes me laugh every single time. :D

Do your pets exercise with you?

My cats stay away when I am working out except for Tazi. He will not leave and rolls around on the floor and cuddles up to me whenever I am doing a Michelle LeMay stretch/relax DVD. I think it is her voice. She really puts him in the mood. Very funny.

My two cats are with me during my workouts because it appears they like Cathe. One normally sleeps on the couch and the other will try to go under my step during my workout. During STS, he would lay underneath the bench when it was on the angle. When I first got DirecTV, the first show I watched was Cathe on FiTV "Cardio Blast," and they just watched her and listened to her. They were my study buddies while I was earning my MBA too.

My current cats couldn't care less about my working out, but my dear, departed Scooter used to join me quite often for floorwork and cooldowns. He also liked to lick sweat off of me while I was lying on the floor.

Once, I was doing chest flys lying on the step and he jumped on my chest and laid right down, in "Library lion statue in repose" position, staring me in the face, until I was finished! (Shows how flat-chested I am in a supine position!) Luckily, it was a moderate-weight workout, and I was able to keep form when he jumped up.

Each new cat does have to learn to stay out of the way when I'm working out. Some learn faster than others.

Mine always seem to know when the stretch is beginning as well. My girlcat, Sushi, purrs and rubs my (usually quite sweaty) legs and gets her fur all over them. Our boycat, Sullivan, prefers to rub my face when I'm in downward dog. They both try to annex the step when I first take it out before I shoo them away. Cats...

One of my cats does the same thing. He will be upstairs sleeping but as soon as the stretch happens he comes running downstairs. He loves to have his belly rubbed as well. I don't know how he knows when I start my stretch but he does.

I have a special workout rug just for my maltese. She knows to lay there while I work out and she watches me. Then when I am lying down to stretch, she comes over and brings me a toy, which I throw and she retrieves while I stretch. She is my workout buddy.

Kathryn, that's too funny!!

One of my cats loves to stick her entire head way into my sneakers as soon as I take them off! (I debated whether I should even tell ya'll that!!) She stays in there a long time; it;s a wonder she doesn't suffocate!

A different cat (now passed on) loved to watch ice skating. She never watched anything on TV except ice skating. She would just plop down directly in front of the TV and watch hours of skating on Sunday Afternoon Wide World of Sports. As soon as it was over she'ld walk away.

(Has anyone read "The Art of Racing in the Rain"? It is a short book told from the perspective of an elderly dog. Great book. I think all of you animal lovers would enjoy it)

I have to lure Hermia into the other room with treats when I workout. It's just impossible to get anything done with her there because the second I start a workout, she feels she needs to be no further than six inches away from me. She'll come and lie down right in the middle of the floor or try to rub up against me. Every now and then I don't feel like luring her away and I think she'll leave me to my workout, but she never does!

TexasLaura I loved loved loved The Art of Racing in the Rain! I loved it so much I bought it for 2 of my girlfriends. I just found out that one of them didn't like it and I was so surprised. She is not an animal person though, so I guess it's true that you need to be. I really thought it was a book that everyone would enjoy.

One of my cats also likes to join me for belly rubs during the stretch. They must know by the noise or the music or something when you are stretching. Once in awhile he shows up early but not too often. One time he came up behind me and smashed his head against my head when I was doing a downward dog, it really startled me!

My cat, Abby, likes to get right up in the middle of things while I'm working out. If I'm on the floor, she likes to get beside me and play in my hair. My parrot, Watson, will actually move his head up and down in time with my arms....I caught him doing this one time when I was doing lateral arm raises. Also, when I put down my heavy weights, he will automatically go "WHEW!". I guess I was doing that quite a bit, and he picked it up.
